This was our first visit to the Country Cabin restaurant. We tried it on our way home from Eagle-watching at Loess Bluff NWR. Even though I had heard about this place, I was leary because all the Yelp reviews were so old. However, the place was packed and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. I had the Saturday special 8oz Filet and added sautéed mushrooms and herb butter. They do charge extra for every single little thing, but these items "made" the steak. Hubby had the smoked Pork Chop with a baked potato (which we shared; upcharge to get it "loaded" which meant they added cheese to the butter and sour cream). Fresh hot bread and butter came with the meal. Both entrees were Yumm-oh! Our waitress was attentive and friendly and busy. I also got a glass of Moscato wine, which was tasty. And we ordered the Brownie Sundae for dessert, which unfortunately did not live up to our expectations. I'd definitely skip the $9! dessert. The total bill was North of $100, so kind of pricey for us, but we did like what we had. I just wanted to add a review that was current. read more

The Country Cabin is the perfect balance of small-town restaurant, classic American cooking, and simple but delicious comfort foods. I visited with a party of 8, and across eight varied and unique entrees, everyone absolutely loved their meal. Fried fish came out deliciously crispy in cornmeal batter, salads were freshly chopped and vibrant, and my blackened chicken was perfectly tender. I am usually a stickler for taking photos to go with my reviews but I forgot this time as the meal looked so good - everything was that tasty! :) Service was excellent and the rural atmosphere was calm and serene. The restaurant is nestled outside of town next to rolling hills and a large pond that makes for scenic views. I highly recommend a visit to anyone who's in the area! read more

Traveling in the area we came across The Country Cabin on Yelp. It was about an hour from where we were but we decided to give it a shot. We were not disappointed. We made a reservation online and turned the car towards the cabin. When we arrived we were well ahead of our reservation and the restaurant was full. We asked if we could have a drink at the bar to wait. The hostess said of course and if you would prefer not to wait for a table the bar is available for dinner service as well. We opted to have dinner at the bar. The bar tender took great care of us and we ordered a couple of seasonal specialty drinks which we thoroughly enjoyed. Dinner was excellent and we ordered pork chops which were well seasoned and cooked perfectly. The country cabin is a cute little place serving great food and friendly service. First time experience was not to par! Rib eyes were over cooked and then unevenly cooked, one side perfectly medium rare and the other well done! Also, no prices on the menu, so we paid $128 for steak (not to our liking, but ate anyways) with Ceasar salad and 2 cocktails! read more

While staying in Hiawatha on a business trip, a coworker and I needed to find something for dinner that was kinda healthy-ish and not fast food. This is harder to accomplish than one might think in Hiawatha. After perusing the menus of the 4 local restaurants we ended up at The Country Cabins. Right off the bat, this place is adorable. The restaurant is one among a number of cabins on one side of a small lake. It's a little off the beaten path from the rest of the businesses in the area but worth the little bit of extra driving to get to. I had a dinner salad which was basically some romaine lettuce, cheese and croutons on a plate. A tomato, some cucumber, an onion, maybe some shredded carrot. This salad was sad and boring. Sorry. Just sayin'. My companion had the soup of the day: Cheesy Enchilada soup. When asked what was in it the server said that it was a cheese based soup with shredded beef, tomatoes, peppers and onions, garnished with tortilla strips. It was actually pretty good. For an entree I had the pork tenderloin dinner, which was basically pork schnitzel with white gravy. It wasn't bad, per se, but it was kind of boring. I ordered wrong. I should have gotten a rib eye, like my companion. Her steak was perfectly cooked and tender. She had a side of broccoli and I had the baby bakes, which are baked new potatoes with garlic buttter. The food was good. It was served hot and was tasty. It was just, well, kinda boring. I wonder if it's a comfort food thing or if it had to do with being the youngest people there (Admittedly, we had dinner at 5 pm. So it was early bird time!) Stayed 2 nights here while traveling for work. The cabin was inviting, clean, and cozy. Towels were fresh and the deck overlooked a beautiful prairie lake. Got to eat in the restaurant the second night I stayed. The specials included a poblano soup and a chicken bacon ranch salad, both of which I indulged in. The poblano soup was cheesy and earthy, and had a mild, satisfying sweetness to it. It was delicious! I ordered the chicken bacon ranch salad with grilled chicken, which was admittedly kind of plain, but the grilled chicken was cooked perfectly, and made the dish shine. It was a slow night at the restaurant but the server always seemed to drop in at the right time, always knowing when to leave me alone. Overall a great experience. Definitely my favorite dining experience in Hiawatha and I hope to return the next time I travel this way! read more

The food and service was amazing! The place is off the beaten path, but well worth the drive. We had Salmon and grilled chicken, which both were excellent. Working in Hiawatha this week and was looking for a place to have dinner. I saw all the five star reviews here and decided to stop in with my co-workers. We arrived and saw all the cabins and the lake. We were greeted and seated immediately and looked over the menu. All of the items looked great. We started with the seafood dip and macaroni balls and they were excellent. They also provided some bread with an addicting cinnamon butter spread. For our entrees we ordered the 14 oz Ribeye, Chicken and Bacon Skewer Special, and Chicken Alfredo. The food and presentation was top notch. The owner was nice enough to check on us and ask us how are meals were. Our experience was so good that we returned the next night and will probably come back again on last night in town. Just had dinner at the restaurant. Love trying local places when possible. Was only staying one night in Hiawatha and lucked onto Country Cabins. It is family owned and run. Tranquil country setting. Coming from Colorado it was a little too hot and humid for my taste to sit on the deck, but the view is lovely. We were given a seat by a window and enjoyed the view in air conditioned comfort. Our high lights: friendly service, good food, decent wine selection, all together a lovely evening. read more

Had a terrific prime rib there last night. Bleu cheese dressing was really good, too! Service was the best! The only thing I would have changed would have been to ask for horse radish cream sauce. They brought horse radish and it was good but was just too overpowering. (I did not ask if they had a cream sauce so I can't fault them.) The au jus was very good. Twice baked potatoes were also done well! I think this restaurant is almost perfect but it is just too far to drive to regularly. I'm giving it 5* and I usually can always find something to keep them from being perfect. The 4.95 (no cream sauce) rating was elevated to 5.0+ by the performance of the wait staff. She was awesome, as were her helpers. Perfect amount of attention. Not too little or too much! I hadn't eaten here for a few years because of the distance but I'll be back soon. Very impressed! This little piece of heaven is tucked away in the country near Hiawatha, Kansas. Very nice location, with the lake and cabins. One can walk around on a paved path and just enjoy the surroundings. The deck offers a relaxing atmosphere with a pleasant view. The food is excellent, the wines are respectable. It's a small thing, but they have the chunkiest, yummiest bleu cheese dressing ever. I could eat it with a spoon! This is one of the few places I've been that served me a truly rare prime rib, and it's a very reasonable price. My husband's KC ribs pulled apart with just a nudge! The service was great, Lizzie knew exactly when to stop at the table and when to leave us alone, which is a good trick. This time, we were celebrating my husband's birthday, and he and I really enjoy each other's company so a hovering server is really annoying. Country Cabin offers the quality of a urban restaurant without the hassles of the city. We like to bring out of town guests here, so they realize that country living still offers great amenities. read more

The food is excellent. The servers pay constant attention to the diners without interfering with conversations. The cheese nuggets have an extraordinarily tasty sauce. The smoked pork was large. The meat was tender and flavorful. My co-worker had the chicken friend steak which she really enjoyed. We were too full for dessert but given the quality of the food we had, I would expect it to be very good. The location is far away from everything. The pond and the beauty of the countryside make this a peaceful location to enjoy some peace and quiet along with the great food. read more

This place is a gem! Great little restaurant, but what I really wanted to review is the cabins you can stay in. Holy cow. They are amazing. Great price (our cabin was $89 and had 3 beds- a Queen and two Twins). The decor was so cute, and the place had everything we needed. Excellent use of space: a main living room/ kitchenette, bedroom with a bathroom, and then a loft area with 2 more beds. The porch was a great add. It overlooks a cute little pond. I was in Hiawatha for business, my partner ad I used Yelp to look for a restaurant. The first one that popped up was the Country Cabins. We decided to try it. Wow, what a diamond in the rough! We arrived and were provided excellent service, the food was awesome. We continued to eat there 4 nights during the trip. The stuffed chicken, ribeye and broccoli cheese soup were my favorites! There are also small cabins available for rent. When I return to this venue, I will definitely stay out there in the peace and quiet, but I will have to diet first, I will be eating at the restaurant cabin everyday! The owner and head chef came out every night to check on our food, along with other patrons in the dining room, I wish I could remember his name, but I will remember his friendly and caring attitude. read more

We decide to stay there for my birthday weekend. We went to cabin number one I made reservations for dinner at 6:30. Let's start off with the restaurant. Very cute Decor in a log cabin feel. Our server was very pleasant. We ordered two appetizers, the escargot stuffed mushrooms and the seafood dip. Both were $11 each. You only get about six mushrooms and a small dish of a very thick "dip". Both were just OK. Our dinners included the fried catfish, pork tenderloin, and the fried shrimp. They also come with soup or salad. My sister and I got the salad which was basically just some white lettuce with a sprinkle of cheese and croutons. It definitely needs to be jazzed up with some cucumbers or tomatoes or something. My friend got the lobster bisque which wasn't bad she said but quite salty. They also brought out a tiny piece of bread for all three of us to share. And no offers of more. My sister liked her catfish, But didn't care for the twice baked casserole as her side. My pork tenderloin was very tender but lacked seasoning, but the gravy helped. The side of roasted potatoes were good. My friend liked her fried shrimp which were very large and very lightly dusted with batter so the taste of the shrimp came through. We order desserts to go as we were staying in the cabins and they were just OK. A brownie sundae and strawberry cheesecake. Cheapest entree is $14.99, think and if you want any kind of steak you're looking towards the $30 plus range so the prices are a little high for the area. Now onto the cabins. I had high hopes because the pictures looked really cute, and on the outside they really are. Not bad on the inside either but quite dirty. Also, our cabin was not as advertised as there was no sleeper sofa or DVD player in our unit. My sister was going to sleep on the sleeper sofa and it turned out to not be one. We popped off the cushions to open it up and all we found was popcorn and jellybeans and other assorted crumbs. Disgusting. Everything was covered in a layer of dust. They were stains on the quilts and splatters of some unknown substances on the glass on the pictures on the walls. Corners or full of grime and our bathroom floor was discolored and the obvious path from the door to the bathroom. Microwave was covered and splatters as well. Definitely needs a little bit of housekeeping. Couldn't say we would stay there again but for $90 a night it was fine. read more

If you're anywhere near Hiawatha, KS, this restaurant is a must. We shared a 14oz ribeye. My wife had asked for 57 sauce. The owner groaned, but gave it to her anyway. Turned out she didn't use it and said it may have been one of the best steaks she ever had - and she's from Kansas. Also - try the baby bakes. They can't be good for you, but we're delicious. The broccoli was fresh and actually good. We topped it off with their bread pudding - with pecans, white chocolate and some kind of crown royal maple sauce and whipped cream. Great meal! Excellent service. I ordered the catfish. Unfortunately it was mossy tasting. When I told our server about it she immediately told the chef and he came right out to apologize. I was given several options to replace the meal. I choose the prime rib. It was superb. On top of that they comped both dishes. Couldn't be happier about the service.
