Service was frustratingly bad. Food took much longer to come out than it should have. When my group went, an older man was running the host stand and serving. He tried to match my group's energy with crude remarks, often swearing and insulting our appearances. Cherry on top: after our final items came out late one was wrong. He said it was our fault! We were responsible for making sure our waiter took the order correctly, and was very rude about claiming the items when they hit the table. Clearly the service is second thought here. We had not been in years to the Bistro at the Sea Ranch. We own a house near-by and spend part of the year in KDH. The breakfast was fantastic had great service as we sat outside with our dog! We came for dinner after a day of activities and looking for a nice beach side place to eat that was family friendly. We sat down at what was basically inside of hotel bar. It was called Sea Ranch Resort. Think Days Inn... because it was next to or connected to it. Service was terrible. Servers more interested in staying inside to avoid the heat. Waters - empty. View - doesn't exist. You look at a pile of weeds and grass. Now the food was okay at best. 3/5. Burger was overcooked as most are even after asking for medium. My wife marginally enjoyed a chicken sandwich but said again - dry. The FLIES. Gross and everywhere. They ruined the entire meal and were abhorrent probably because the patio is in a grass patch. I asked about them as far as if they did anything professionally, citronella, foggers, etc and our server said - to quote - "We aren't sure what to do. I tried to spray some Lysol earlier before we opened." Inside bathrooms exist in the hotel. Filthy and no TP or paper towels. The problem isn't the staff - they're all kids. It is the management which might as well have been on Mars. Gone. No where. I wouldn't go back if it was free. Please don't disrespect yourself with this junk hole. Finally the only person dining with us was a mom and her approx 9 year old son (like mine who was dining with us). He appeared to dislike his chicken nuggets/fingers and said "Mom can we leave and go somewhere else." Sad to see 2 family meals ruined by poor service, flies, and poor tasting food. I'm not one to be hard on restaurants for no reason, but this place is terrible. The 2 stars are generous... but no one got food poisoning so good for that. Ugh. read more

And according to other reviews it doesn't seem like our family is the only one who was treated poorly by a guy waiting tables there. (Can't miss him) he literally bull dozed my mom over and same with my daughter and I as we were sitting down at our table.. while making rude remarks. Been in the service industry for yearsssssss and buddy if you can't handle it and customers coming in pisses you off to that extent..you need to find another profession. Today we decided to go out for "brekkies" but we had the same criteria: must have waterside view. While this adorable bistro technically had a waterside view it was limited by the sea grass. Still...it is RIGHT on the beach. This was breakfast so there is nothing stunning to report. We each had the 2 stack of pancakes and asked for crunchy bacon. Boy did they give us crunchy? Very yummy. Our server Amanda was very exuberant for a breakfast place. Very sunny and cheerful. The ONLY drawback was the coffee. It was not very good coffee. It's a shame because the rest of the meal was so charming. The cost was more than reasonable with plenty of parking. read more

We were in the area and this place sounded good to us for lunch. There was plenty of parking as the restaurant is inside a hotel (very cute looking hotel from the outside!). The service was very friendly. You could eat either inside or out; we chose outside for the beautiful weather. We ordered the chicken sandwich and the tuna bites with cole slaw on the side. Ranking from the most delicious: tuna bites and chicken sandwich tied in first place, fries were delicious and crispy (dip it in the sauce that comes with the tuna bites), and the cole slaw came in last but was refreshing between each bite. The chicken sandwich had a generous amount of toppings, and the sauce complimented the meat deliciously. While this is beachside, we were hoping for ocean views. Went for a late-ish breakfast on a Wednesday and were able to get seated outdoors next to the dunes at an umbrella table with a bench seat and ocean views. Enjoyed the egg white omelet with fruit, in particular. While we didn't indulge, the parties around us were sipping mimosas. Only downside was the limited kids menu (although our granddaughter did enjoy her huge pancake). All in all it was a lovely way to start the day. read more

This restaurant is inside a hotel and you can't see the beach from the restaurant. I walked in here with my mom and sister. I also have a service dog. When we went in they informed me that no dogs are allowed in here and I said thank you I understand I need my service dog for medical assistance. There was a gentleman with yellow hair and an older lady in there both serving. They scoffed at my dog and walked away from us. The sign says please wait to be seated. We watched them hide behind the corner and come in and out for over 10 minutes before we decided to just leave. The restaurant was dead and the food looked dry on the plates of the 1 table they had seated. I guess they're not looking for business. I actually hate the fact I need a service dog. People like this make it hard to go out. read more

This little place is on the ocean nestled by a sand dune if you prefer to eat outside. Follow a pathway next to the entrance to Days Inn (Sea Ranch Resort) off Virginia Dare Dr. This little place has some indoor seating as well. Because of the scarcity of help that has hit most cities including the OBX this restaurant has limited openings, ck for times and days. When l was there they said the restaurant was open until noon M-W. The wait staff is 2 people basically who have a great attitude and are very accommodating. While l waited for my food l took my coffee for a walk to the beach, a very short walk as you are beach side basically. Started out w a mimosa and coffee. The paper menu was flopping around a bit in the ocean breeze but there was many choices to pick from. See the pics l included. I would totally go back there again. Ck it out. read more

We went to the bistro several times while staying at the Sea Ranch for 2 nights. Everyone that works there is delightful & it's right off the beach! Phil Watson performs on Wednesday evenings. He's super talented! Recommend banana bread French toast and obx grits bowl for breakfast. Don't forget the espresso martini! Recommend the catch of the day for lunch or dinner. They offer indoor and outdoor seating so we ate outside where you have s view of some tall beach grass with a boardwalk to the beach. Came for breakfast. If you follow me, you know I'm a foodie. I have eaten at alot of places across the states. I have had expensive plates and the cheapest dive bar food placed in front of me. I can honestly say, this places ranks in my top 5 of best sirloin steak I've ever had. The restaurant is tucked away behind the hotel, Sea Ranch Resort (which I will have a review of its own) that we stayed at while on our trip to the outer banks. Its a smaller venue but very well managed and has plenty of tables to choose from. There are several 4 chair tables and about 2 person tables. You can also choose to sit at one of the 7 or 8 spots at the bar. The service was one of the best I have had at any establishment. Out waitress, Geri, was friendly, quick, kept our drinks full and the conversation interesting. It was more like eating at a friend's house than at a hotel restaurant. The bartender, Sarah, was just as friendly. We stayed an extra 20 minutes after we were finished eating just to partake in conversation with these two amazing ladies. I didn't get to meet the cook, but let me say this. The sirloin steak was easily top 5 I've ever had. It was perfectly cooked to order, warm in the middle and had perfect flavor. The okay comes with fresh green beans and mashed potatoes. Wow, even the sides were flavored to perfection. Next time we head out to the outer banks, we will 110% make it our mission to have dinner here again. Thank you to the entire staff for the amazing food and the even better camaraderie. read more

Went for a late breakfast at 10AM. Only a few people were there. Ordered a cheese omelette and crabmeat crepes w/eggs. The food came out in about 4 minutes and was barely warm, had obviously been pre-cooked. The butter couldn't even melt on the barely toasted bread. Did a lunch one day and breakfast the next. Had the crab dip with triangle pitas and the cake bites. They were amazing. I liked the dip better though. Had two sorbet mimosas! One strawberry and one lemon. Lemon was better. Breakfast was awesome! French toast and bacon were good and surprisingly the scrambled eggs. Be careful when adding extras. We stayed at the hotel attached and have eaten here twice, once for breakfast and once for dinner. The food was phenomenal, my husband can be particular about seafood and swears they were the best scallops he's ever had! We both had the banana bread French toast and it was so good, no fake banana taste. One of the staff is an artist and puts out big white papers to cover the tables, which is a fantastic idea for the ones with littles. It is small inside so the bar is pretty close but nobody seemed rowdy. read more

This was honestly the most disappointing dinner I've ever had. My husband and I wanted to splurge on a nice dinner before heading home from vacation. We don't have fresh ocean seafood anywhere near us at home so I really wanted one last good seafood meal. After reading Beachside Bistro's good reviews I was excited to try it out. We both ordered virgin pina coladas which were almost more like watery pineapple/coconut flavored shaved ice; not very creamy at all and not very flavorful. For dinner my husband ordered a chicken pasta dish, which was by far the lesser of two evils of our entrees. The sauce was pretty yummy and the pasta wasn't bad. Even so, his chicken was incredibly dry and not very appetizing to look at. My entree is where things get really bad. I ordered the outer banks seafood platter, which consisted of about four shrimps, four scallops, a crab cake, a trigger fish fillet, potatoes and "seasonal vegetables." The shrimp still had their tails on and were incredibly tough and rubbery. The scallops were also rubbery and had a strong, strange, unpleasant flavor. The trigger fish was watery and tasted very not fresh. None of the above were seasoned well. The crab cake was tolerable. The "seasonal vegetables" were a disgrace; mushy, watery carrots with green and wax beans in a bland, watery sort of sauce. The most palatable part of my whole seafood platter was probably the potatoes which were lacking in flavor but at least not an insult to the senses. To make matters worse, this plate of sadness was $35. This meal ended up being one of the most expensive of our entire vacation, and was by far the worst. We couldn't even get out of there as our waitress had disappeared and had to be retrieved by one of her coworkers. All in all, a crushing disappointment I wouldn't recommend to my worst enemy. read more
