SO MUCH BETTER THEN PROVIDENCE emergency room! I finally left providence waiting room to go to Deaconess and I was seen within an hour. They even had a private waiting room reclining chair area for people who really needed it. My care was good and I was sent home so much better! GO TO DEACONESS if you are able. At providence I was projectile vomiting and I couldn't see straight and I went in and I was put in a chair and rolled into a room where I waited for four over hours with no one who came to check on me or any kind of care. There was about 5 other people waiting a ridiculously long time to be seen sitting in this tiny waiting area vomiting into bags. I finally left to go to Deaconess and I was seen within an hour. I can't state this enough GO TO DEACONESS if you want to make your health a priority. read more

I really wanted to leave more stars on my review, as Deaconess is my "old home"; but I came in for shortness of breath, my respiratory effort labored. that symptom, upon entering, I would've thought an oximeter would have been placed on me straightaway. No. I waited. staff did the necessary steps once I got a space for my gurney in the hallway. I did hear staff members say that oximeters were in short supply...are you kidding me, I thought?! the nurse attending me was kind, everyone was. Staff was wonderful to my father and family during end of life care for dad. Medication for pain and anxiety was excellent administered by staff. Family needs were met in the same excellence of care for any request we had such as ice water, blankets cot for our mom to sleep on. Staffing in cafeteria were just as helpful. Don't use the cafeteria, all professionalism among the hospital staff goes out the window and the rude staff members show their true colors. The cafeteria staff are the worse, they need to learn how to deal with customers; don't ask for any assistance, it's not their job. The quality of food is very questionable, poor selection, the food was cold, nothing was being replaced as it ran out. There's no signage to indicate where anything is. There are no healthy items to choose from, more empty containers on the line, tried to talk to someone in charge only to be told the supervisor doesn't have time another staff member stated they had no supervisor. The price of the food is too high for the quality of food served. An MRE (Meal Ready to Eat) have been better than what was provided here. Hosptial Staff and Cafeteria blocking the way, so there's no way around them. The appearance in the dining room was something, dirty tables, garbage on the floor, makes me wonder where else Multi-care Deaconess has made cuts. Perhaps Deaconess needs to shout down the cafeteria and provide some sort of class on customer service, as for the rude professionalism among the hospital staff, manners is beyond them. This makes me wonder what type of care my family member was getting in the hospital itself. read more

The check in receptionist was extremely nice, the triage nurse Olivia on the other hand was very short and very dismissive. Luckily the nurse tech saved the beginning process with her kindness and willingness to give some heating pads to a 67 year old disabled man in extreme distress due to large kidney stones. If you don't like helping people you should not be a nurse PERIOD! I as well work in the medical field and wouldn't ever make someone feel as unwelcome as she made this suffering elderly man feel. I had outpatient surgery here a while back. The surgeon, who did not work for Deaconess was great. The anesthesiologist who did was decent. The nurses in preop were not great. I had one functional arm and they needed me to do stuff that required two and wouldn't help. The reason is likely because that place is basically an assembly line that is overloaded. The postop was awful. I woke up to some nasty nurse yelling at me and accusing me of faking something. I have no idea what. I was very out of it. It seemed like a good idea to leave, so I tried to leave they yelled again and threw my clothes at me. I left the dump with no instructions, no water, no food, and no pain meds. A few weeks later I get an email about giving them feedback, so I did and clicked the box that I wanted to talk to someone. No one contacted me. I didn't wake up in an alley with a missing kidney, so that is a plus. read more

Usually, a great place to get care. However, if you get Joshua L. Mayfield PAC ask for another provider. Don't ask him though he will deny you that right and if you continue to see him you will find out he only cares for his opinion and is unwilling to collaborate with the patient. If he comes in your room, I suggest you run and fast. Funny thing is that he would not let me see another doctor but after I walked out on him, I read his notes in MyChart and found out that he had consulted with a real doctor in Tacoma, WA to get validation for his treatment plan which he developed without any actual physical exam he admits to this on the notes. Did not stop him from mis characterizing what happened in our encounter to suit himself and assassinate my character at the same time. Thank goodness my Multicare PCP and Physiatrist have known me for a decade and know who I really am. Total violation of my rights as a patient to not have my acute pain cared for in a fashion that we can agree on and gets me feeling better. In the Washington state code WAC 246-330-125 it states: "To be involved in all aspects of their care including refusing care and treatment and resolving problems with care decisions". 1 read more

Absolutely abysmal care with the midwifery and child birth portion of the hospital - do not go if you can possibly avoid it!!! Over many appointments I made explicit instructions about what I would and would not accept with care (even if it resulted in death) and that I had severe medical trauma from the past and I spelled out exactly what I needed from them. They proceeded to ignore all of it, backed me into a medical corner which forced me to stay in the hosptal or possibly lose insurance coverage, did not take time to explain or work with me, then the doctor came after I had not had more than a nap in over two days, hadn't had anything to eat or drink in nearly a day and while I was battling to stay concious and focused the doctor started belittling my choices and asked me point blank if I wanted my husband to watch me bleed out. When I couldn't answer and was basically in tears the doctor proceeded to try to bully my husband. They coerced a procedure on me and after they mistook my care and got confused on if there was a blood clot or not (no one could keep their story straight) and then another doctor came in and told me all these horrible things about my future going forward (no empathy and later learned she was not even accurate). I filed a complaint with the hospital and after a month they just responded and said I received ''appropriate care'' - if coercion, bully, emotional manipulation, unprofessionalism and belitting is ''appropriate'' then yah I guess they nailed it. Avoid if at all possible!!! But espcially avoid RN Rossi Elliott-Airy, Dr. Cunningham and Dr. Lawons (cannot stress enough to avoid her as she is comfrotable using emotional maniuplation and coercion when you are vulnerable!). Overall a SUPER traumatic experience! read more

I could not have been more impressed. The Covid-19 vaccine clinic is terrific. Very well organized, free parking. There were so many wonderful volunteers and employees. The nurses, doctors and support staff are putting in long hours, but they could not be kinder, very relaxed and very efficient. I was impressed by how well organized and how quickly we were able to get our vaccine and then the waiting period to be sure we were safe went by very quickly. I had major back surgery at Deaconess, and it was the worst experience of my life. Some of the nurses were very sweet and caring. But, the majority of them were very impatient and would question whether or not the pain I was in was as bad as I said it was, as if I was faking it or being a baby about it. I had a rod screwed into my spine to help straighten my spine. It went from my lumbar through to my thoracic spine. I lost my kidney during the surgery. The pain was so severe! Going through childbirth without medication was easier than this surgery pain. It was hard to get the nurses to give me my pain medication on an even schedule to keep the pain more at bay. Sometimes, they would go over an hour or more from the time I needed a dose of the pain medication. I was stuck in a corner room with the TV in a spot where I couldn't watch it without kinking my neck. I was there for two weeks! I needed help straightening my body in the bed, when I would buzz for help to move in the bed it would take an hour or so to get help to straighten up, and I could barely move, so I would get extremely uncomfortable and in more pain, because my body would slide down in the bed. I had an old bed, so the nurse buzzer remote was hanging by a cord and most of the time I couldn't get to it because it would fall down in the Crack between the bed and the rail. I couldn't reach for it or twist to get it, because of the surgery I had, and it would increase my pain and possibly damage the surgery I had. The nurses and physical therapists would harp on me about getting out of bed and sitting in a chair. I couldn't get up without help and I would finally get help to get up and sit in the chair, but when my pain was getting much worse from sitting, it would take an hour or so to get the help I needed to get out of the chair and back in bed. I was so frustrated with them telling me to sit more, but not getting the help I needed to sit or get back in bed after sitting. I wasn't able or allowed to get out of bed without assistance. After being there for two weeks and feeling like I was just a burden, I was getting really depressed. Before I left, the therapist didn't think I was ready physically and didn't want to release me, but when he realized how depressed I was getting, he released me to go home. I would never recommend Deaconess Hospital. I would have given 0 stars, but I had to give it a rating. read more

Staff was friendly and efficient, put up with my jokes, and did everything they could to make my few hours there comfortable and healthful. Was there yesterday and got treated horribly. Saw an ARPN named Megan Weese. If you get her ask for someone else right away. She came in the room and had already judged me and then just proceeded to patronize me until I left. All because I use a pain medicine that is prescribed to me off label for pain instead of addiction. The patient advocate I complained to when I got home said I should go back. When I did I had to leave because they made me wait so long I think they just wanted me to leave. Not to mention they put me in a dirty room with an open vial of medication from someone's visit prior to mine on the napkin dispenser. read more

I had to rush to deaconess with a very elevated blood pressure and tingling in my face. I was advised to get there immediately. Upon checking in I was set in the waiting room for over two hours before someone evaluated me. Thank God it wasn't a stroke. I wouldn't advise going there with an emergency. read more

Lets just get to the PT(Physical Therapy) staff issues first!! Their PT staff SHOULD BE BANNED and KICKED OUT of the hospital for good!! They are extremely unfriendly, pushy, act like they know it all, and EXTREMELY CARELESS. First, THEY SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER THAN TO TRY AND FORCE ME TO navigate with crutches up some hard steel fire escape steps with a huge external fixator on my foot. They had never made me do it a month before when I originally got the fixator put on my foot in their same hospital, Deaconess! I almost had my head cracked open!! I told them I had already navigated the steps AT HOME(we live on second floor) several times with the fixator on my foot. And, that I have probably had, in total, a couple years experience already of having to use crutches due to a badly broken leg about 14 years ago. Almost had my skull cracked open because they tried, AND DID, make me walk up some of those hard steel fire escape steps with crutches while, on my foot, I had an external fixator. It is a metal object well over a foot long and about 10" wide and basically holds my foot together. Every time I took a step up the stairs, the fixator was banging on the hard steel fire escape steps because it was twice the size of those steps. Then they(PT) had a strap wrapped around my waist thinking they were going to be able to stop me if I fell. First of all, the person holding the strap didn't have the strength to even begin to stop me if I fell. Second of all, having them tugging and pulling on the strap all the time I was trying to navigate up the steps with the crutches just made it much more difficult to balance myself on each step!! I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO SEE PT(Physical Therapy) go up the same steps with crutches with the same massive external fixator on their foot!!! Anyway, I fell when just about at the top of the steps but fortunately I was quite aware of everything going on (even though night before I had a blood transfusion besides being on a variety of drugs) and grabbed a rail before falling completely down and didn't get hurt otherwise I COULD HAVE CRACKED MY HEAD WIDE OPEN!! Even though I had had the external fixator put on my foot the last time I was in this hospital, over a month ago, I never had any problem leaving with it. But this time they tried to force me to stay and said I could not leave!! (NOT!) 1)RECOVERY IN HOSPITAL NOT ONE BIT COMFORTABLE AT ALL!!! Have had 2 stays in last 60 days(as of 8/3/19) Have the WORST beds. After a day, butt was getting real sore. They finally bring in a small inflatable mattress and put under me which didn't help much at all!! Sheets, especially top half, kept coming off bed. Bed also has a mechanism on it where if you get out of bed, to just stand for a second, a LOUD ALARM goes off and everybody rushes to you like you are a criminal trying to escape. You cannot get up and stand on the side of the bed on the one good leg you have to pee which is what I've done in previous hospitals all the time. 2)Nurses(RN's, not the assistants): Most RN's in charge seemed nice, caring, and knowledgeable. Only problem was they were always late in delivering meds causing you to keep getting them later and later every time, if you had to wait a specified number of hours for the next dose. 3)Nurse assistants! Some were good but a few were uncaring, obnoxious, lazy i.e. didn't seem to want to help much, and downright jerks(Guy nurses especially). They also did not seem to be on the same page all the time. FINAL NOTE: Somebody (I figure it was someone from PT(Physical Therapy)) had the gall to call me on a Saturday afternoon, a day after getting out of hospital, and said they "WERE COMING OVER SUNDAY" to help me or do whatever they were going to do. They sounded like I did NOT HAVE A CHOICE but that they WERE COMING OVER like demanding it. You can just guess what I told them and of course they never came over. But I could not believe how they WERE ACTING LIKE THEY WERE COMING OVER WITHOUT EVEN ASKING!!! FIRE ALL PT'S at Deaconess! And NEVER go to DEACONESS if you can help it!! read more

First off, When I went to Deconess Emergency! I'm in extreme pain as they were doing the urine test, blood test. The ER dr was convinced that I was an alcoholic. Because of the acute pancritise. That comes with the territory. He kept asking over and over how much I drank on a regular basis. I kept telling him that I haven't drank at all. When the blood test came back it showed my electrolytes was 1500. Then he said well alcohol doesn't do that! I guess that was his way of apologizing. Then I get up to the room. It seemed like housekeeping forgot someone sick was there. They would show up once a day clean the key board for the computer. The rest was left including the bathroom. The CNA'S would walk by when I turned my light on for help. Sometimes waited 2 hrs for pain meds or to see anyone. As far as accidents in bed. If you have problems with leaking of urine or your BMI don't go there cause you will sit in it. read more

Deaconess has some issues that need worked on but overall its a fantastic hospital. This would be the only hospital I would ever feel comfortable getting surgery at or even getting treated for a minor issue. Probably the worst hospital I have ever been to. The service is awful and I'm on my 4th hour here with just a sprained ankle that I needed to see if it was broken. The nurses are just sitting around, eating potato chips, laughing, so unprofessional. They didn't even shut the door to the room I finally got put in after 2 hours of waiting, and no one will keep me updated on what the heck is going on. I'm very upset and when I addressed to the nurse she just said "sorry. We're busy. Most people wait 6 hours so." Like um what? I could be DYING. Beyond unprofessional, and you have to PAY FOR PARKING. Just utterly confused at this point. One star because the doctor was decent. read more

Horrible experience. They checked me in and put my in the hallway for 4 hours with a concussion. I was there because I had been jumped and needed to know if anything was broken. They seemed to have forgotten about me. A nurse asked me if I needed anything for pain when I first got put in the hallway and then never came back. The average wait time said 30 min online but I sat in the crowded, noisy hallway confused for 3 HOURS before a doctor even talked to me. In my opinion, not a very professional way for a doctor to take "care" of somebody with three broken broken bones, a hemorrhage and a concussion. read more

I arrived at ER at 3am in terrible pain. I was brought back within 15 minutes. I had an IV in within 10 minutes and pain meds. In less than one hour I was off to CT scanner. By 7 am I was in a hospital bed. Staff were very proactive in my care. Nurses were obviously busy but always made time if I had concerns. The Physician was very thorough. He provided great explanations. Meals were room service style and it was great to order what I wanted when I wanted instead of receiving hospital slop. Loved the quality. The room was clean. I think things could have been handled better, but at least they provide care unlike Providence who does absolutely nothing except misdiagnose me. I have been to the ER 3 times. First time they thought I had sepsis, wish they would have done a better job with the blood draw & would have avoided all that. I got my CT, got anti-emetics, started antibiotics & got admitted. I made it out alive so I guess that's all I can ask. But I felt like I never knew what was going on, got woken up all night long for blood draws and had bruises up & down my arms. They were dismissive of the pain from my infiltrated IV. In the end I got to go home to my family. They ended up Dx me with gastritis, but I think it was actually anaphylaxis, in hindsight. Second time was about a week later when my labs were all off & urgent care started an IV and sent me back to the ER. They gave me saline & sent me home. The doctor was very rude & uncaring. Third time was post-surgery. I was in unbelieveable pain, worse than being in labor, after my knee surgery. They gave me pain medications until I could finally rest. I layed in a bed in a hallway the whole time, just for poked over & over until they finally started an IV but didn't use it. At least I was able to get pain medications after my nerve block wore off (which also caused nerve damage & nerve pain severak months later). Like I said, they could do better but they have been a better choice, by far, than Providence. Hopefully I never have to go back! read more

I was recently in the hospital for major back surgery. It was anticipated I would be hospitalized for 2-3 days. The surgeon was amazing and I did as well as expected after the surgery. The day after my surgery, my Surgeon said he would sign the discharge papers so that I could go home when I felt ready. After that I got the bums rush by the hosipatal. It was so bad, I was had to rush lunch while talking with the nurse over the discharge papers at 2:00. My surgery was at 4:00 the night before. I was discharged from an anticipated 2-3 day stay in less than 24 hours. Instructions were minimal and I was not set up for the home health, that I was supposed to be getting. Needless to say it has been a rough go since my discharge. Deaconess once was a great hospital and we did went here over all others if we had a choice. That will never be the case again, I will go anywhere else as even the worse hospitals have done better than this. read more
