May I suggest that when a Dr visits a patient they leave their business card. There are times when the patient is too ill or medicated they may not remember or understand what the Dr says. Our family member has been in their care for 45 days and on several occasions we've missed the Dr and hope we see them the next round. This method lets the family member know the Dr visited and includes the Dr's contact info. read more

Well first off nurse Meagan on the 9th floor, took amazing care of me, just like my momma would...as for others not so much,but they work there tails off and get no incentive to be the best, no recognition for the great work they due, the nurses aids are extremely lazy, wich make more work for the already over worked nurses...the food here is absolutely disgusting, I couldn't eat it...I had 3 back surgeries in 1 months time, and the pain is sometimes unbearable, but my nurse made me as comfortable as she could, the hospital is falling apart, theses nurses have to go do far to get patients water and ice, then you have the nurse that complained I peed to much, then I had one who told me im gonna be a drug addict cause I used iv pain meds after having major spinal surgery. Come on deaconess take better care of your facility and the people who care for the patients, they make your hospital money, and they get treated like poo.only giving it 2 stars because I loved my nurses. read more

I took off the the heart rate monitor on my finger and stuck it to the beds rails and it didn't change 'my' vitals. This to me was shocking. A man entered the ER wearing bags for urine and feces. His urine bag was not attached properly, so he was dripping everywhere, on the chairs he sat on, on the floor, all over. So I told the woman at reception and she acted quickly. I was crying when I got there for ER visit I sat in a wheelchair for 6hrs while they took care of all the drug addictions first. They barely gave me the time of day, took my blood pressure and told me I was on enough medication to get through it and sent me away so they could help another addict. We left worse than when I went in! Never will I go back. They were great with my husband's surgery this year. they flew him from Valley Hospital for a better surgeon. They screwed him up bad, cutting a nerve so he could no longer could have sex since 2002. They caused us to lose the love that we needed to be a married couple instead of less than siblings. We pretty much live separately, most days we don't speak or see each other, even though we sleep in the same bed- no touching. Deaconess surgeon said that should not have happened and the Valley Dr cut in the wrong place and didn't do it right which is why we didn't use him again. For my husband's care I would give them a 5+! For that I am truly grateful. read more

I had to go to the ER because all urgent care facilities were booked into the next day. Cringe......what I found was an amazing group of people who were masters of their job. I came for major cancer surgery, my surgeon is with Cancer Care Northwest but the surgery and recovery was here. From the first contact with staff until the last, they were all very nice and professional. They took great care while changing dressings and administering meds and shots, while I buzzed for the nurse they came right away. They always made sure I had ice to suck on, as it was all I could do for a week. I didn't meet anyone that I wouldn't want taking care of my family. Thank you for everything! read more

What ever you do not go to the ER if you have a emergency. We sat in the waiting area for over an hour with no assistance. My wife was having an Asthma attack and we had lost her inhaler. Instead of helping we waited when she finally got seen still no help they would not listen and insisted on tests. 4 hours later we get oh you just have breathing issues here is a prescription for your inhaler. 6 hours at the ER what a joke. And to add insult to injury the bill $12,000 from the hospital $1,700 from the doctor and another $1,600 from the X-ray. Unbelievable - We had an emergency for one of our employees while he was in Spokane and the ambulance took him to Deaconess Medical Center. They took care of his injury, and then put him in the hallway until someone could come and get him. WE ARE 8 hours AWAY in Eastern Idaho... he has a medical condition and requires meds, he hadn't eaten anything and with diabetes it is critical that he gets food. My oncologist is retiring, he has referred me to an oncologist in Multicare, part of Deaconess. However, because I have been seen by another oncologist in Spokane they will not see me as a patient. I now have no oncologist. The take away I was left with was that I no longer get a choice in what type of healthcare I receive. If you start somewhere, you're stuck somewhere. The patient no longer gets a say in the quality of care they receive. On the flip side, I'm very grateful I didn't start with Deaconess. I spent a few weeks last year and was extremely impressed with the care I received from the doctors. However, the nursing staff was terrible. The first time I was there last year was great. Even the nurse! The 2nd time I was there which was within a week following. The nursing staff was awful! The social worker they have should be replaced! After being there for a week or do they moved me a few times to different floors and the nursing staff then discharged me with out the doctor discharging me! They hurt me Bad! The security guard was even part of it and shoved me in our car and tore my knee open again! The next day they came to my home and said I had to come back to hospital! I had no choice but when they ckd me back in the social worker sent me out again to a nursing home in Colfax! I had no support system or visitors because it was so far away! I ckd myself out, made it bk to Spokane after not being mobile. The whole ordeal was the most awful experience I've ever had. When I came bk to Spokane, I came hone for 1 night and then had my friend call for an ambulance. DEACONESS WASNT AXCEPTING ANYONE! THANK God! I requested Sacred Heart whom nursed me back for weeks before they allowed me to leave. Sacred Heart saved my life and they took excellent care! I still can't walk due to my surgery at Deaconess. I'm doing physical therapy but because I got started so late it has kept me from getting better. (I'm told) I do on pursuing this further . .. read more

I took my girlfriend to this ER center because her doctor thought she potentially had a spinal fluid leak, and said to visit an ER immediately.. At around 4 PM, they had us sit in the waiting room for almost 3 hours, and gave her a bed in the hallway. There were doctors and nurses NOT WEARING MASKS. MOST of them were constantly pulling their masks down. They were leaving patient's doors open, and weren't even addressing patients screaming down the hallway! They left my girlfriend's IV drip needle ON THE COUNTER NEXT TO HR until after we had left at 1 AM! They had us waiting in there for paperwork and didn't even do anything. Pretty much told her she was fine and sent us on our way after waiting 2 hours for her papers to print. Awful wait times, unsanitary, and rude nurses abound. Go to Sacred Heart instead. read more

My experience was with their birthing center, perinatologist, and NICU. I spent 6 weeks of my pregnancy on bed rest in the hospital. I thank my lucky stars we had Dr. Acosta looking over my pregnancy as well as the rest of the team. I cannot say enough good things about him. He and his staff are superb. My baby still came early despite best attempts, and I appreciate the staff at labor and delivery, Dr. Owen and her resident for safely delivering my baby, and NICU more than I can describe. Dr. Owen really went up and beyond for me, and I appreciate her open and frank way of keeping me informed during a tricky delivery. Gripes? Different nurses had different rules in the NICU. Made it very confusing for a new mom and dad who have never dealt with the whole NICU experience. The nurses definitely seemed overworked in the recovery section of labor and delivery (Which is where I spent a good portion of my 6 week stay). I didn't have many requests or needs, so it didn't really bother me as much as I felt badly for them. I'm not sure if she will ever see this, but a special thanks to the custodian named Linda. You were always so kind, thorough, and really went the extra mile to make things clean and comfortable. She was so sweet and had a sunny disposition which I desperately needed during that lonely and scary time. Another special thanks to the NICU nurse and best damn lactation consultant I ever met, Wendy! Lastly, I would just like to add that Dr. Agress has the best bedside manner a patient could hope for. Wizardry and silent softness. We like Deacon because it has the essentials and is comfortable. The staff are not distantly distracted by their work and appear to have some integrity. The physicians are well trained and the angioplasty procedure went without a flaw. The teamed swooped in and opened my wife's artery using the standard balloon angioplasty and then placed the stint. Please do NOT go to this hospital! I have been trying to get a status update on my daughter for 2 days!!! The nurse either doesn't know or is rude and doesn't tell me anything that makes sense. I called just now and of course the nurse was rude and either we lost connection or she hung up on me who knows. We live in Arizona and cannot afford to fly up there. Every time I talk to my daughter she is crying uncontrollably and she can't remember things. I don't know what to do. Her so called boyfriend and her 30 year old son are useless. All they do is live off her. She has been on kidney dialysis for 2 years and can't work. I do not like this hospital! Every time she is in we go through the same thing. read more

I was in there with my pregnant girlfriend and who now has heart failure with 15% of her heart working and the ER "always really busy" she was always jumping up to get anything she needed and with the most positive and energetic attitude. She argued with me when I asked her to call the dr to see if he would be able to stay they night . Response was ins doesn't cover that. I went to the new Deaconess ER on the north side. Fast friendly service. Good care. Problem came with billing. One of the Doctors wasn't "in network." Of course I assume, when checking in and I'm told we accept Premera, that it means all the care I am provided will be covered under my insurance. The unfortunate truth, when you get your Explanation of Benefits (EOB), some services are "out of network" and you pay significantly more. Contract issues between the hospital and it's care givers. Call Premera, "Not our fault!" Call Deaconess, "Not our Fault!" Call Spokane Emergency Group (The Doctors service) "Not our Fault!" So even though the Hospital accepts your insurance, it doesn't mean the individual care givers do. The SYSTEM is BROKEN! read more

I was returning to California on a motorcycle ride and ended up with a bad leg infection. I went to the emergency room at Deaconess and was admitted for 4 days. I had excellent care but most noticeably, for me, was that I was listened to. Several days after I was discharged and back in California, I had a question regarding my condition and was put through to the doctor that was responsible for my care while admitted. Again, I was listened to and actually was able to speak with the doctor. I received great care. read more

I arrived at ER at 3am in terrible pain. I was brought back within 15 minutes. I had an IV in within 10 minutes and pain meds. In less than one hour I was off to CT scanner. By 7 am I was in a hospital bed. Staff were very proactive in my care. Nurses were obviously busy but always made time if I had concerns. The Physician was very thorough. He provided great explanations. Meals were room service style and it was great to order what I wanted when I wanted instead of receiving hospital slop. Loved the quality. The room was clean. I went to the E.R. for a condition I had had for four months when the pain became unbearable. I was checked in quickly and only waited a few minutes before I was taken to a room for treatment. The staff member who treated me was P.A.-C Nibler. He diagnosed me promptly and correctly and told me that he was going to treat my pain immediately. He explained my condition in a way I could understand. He was professional, polite, and knowledgeable. I felt like I was under the care of a competent and caring person. The nurses were also respectful and professional. (I chose Deaconess because they had taken wonderful care of my husband a few years ago when he had surgery). Deaconess Hospital is a top-notch hospital where you receive excellent care and I highly recommend it. read more

After reading a couple of posts I had to make sure I was leaving a review for the right place. We (unfortunately) stopped at the North Division Urgent Care ER having no idea that if they admitted you it would have to be at Deaconess Medical Center. We were in a room for 8 hours. Yes, 8 hours. One doctor and just a couple of nurses. Several tests and a "free" ambulance ride to the hospital. The week long hospital stay (8th floor) was unbelievable. The nurses have no help with patient care. No aides, volunteers, student nurses or anything else that I could see. The food service person delivered the meals, but the NURSES remove them from the room. I have to say that I think most of the nurses tried to get to everyone on the floor in a timely manner but it's impossible with so little staff. The surgery wing was an entirely different story. Lots of staff who seem to know what they are doing. It felt like we were in good hands then. I'm wondering why such a nice wing doesn't have the patient status monitor, though. Since our situation was an emergency I'm glad we received care but if there is a next time over there we will for sure head to Sacred Heart. Oh, but one thing: the apple fritters from the cafeteria are awesome. read more

I had surgery and it's been 10 hours and I still don't know how it went. I will never come back here again. I would rather go to holy family or sacred heart hospital. read more

Deconess hospital is a joke they are supposed to be there to help but when doctor walks up too bed side rude and disrespectful too the patient and treat them as they are pain seeking and showing signs of real pain and the first thing he says we are not going to help that is not how person should be treated period. I went into the ER because i have been having severe pain in the center of my abdomen. I had the misfortune of being a patient of Manichanh Ratts, PA-C. I told him right away that I had gone to the er a week before for the same reason, my labs came back normal but they didn't do any imaging. I also told him my pain was a 9 out of 10. Well he basically disregarded what i told him, ran labs and said i can't find any reason to look any further and told me to follow up with my primary. I told him the pain has gotten much worse, that i'd been throwing up for three days straight and asked if he could do some imaging. I actually begged him And his response was nope sorry that isn't how it works... i don't see any reason to investigate any further. He then walked away so about ten minutes later i asked a nurse if i could talk to him, and that i'm going to have to keep coming to the er until i get help. I can't eat and i'm in severe pain. Well he came in and told me that if i did he'd have me removed and charged with trespassing. I begged him again to do some imaging and he refused and had security escort me out even though i was very calm, just desperate and in pain. The next day the pain was the same and I called my primary who told me to go to er. I went to Sacred Heart, they were awesome. Despite my labs being normal they listened to me and saw i was in severe pain. They did a CT with contrast of my abdomen and found that i have a blocked bile duct, apparently one of the sphincters are not opening properly. They gave me some medication and made sure i was comfortable and set me up with an appointment today with a specialist. Such a different experience. That PA should not be in that position if he won't look past a blood panel when someone is telling him there is definitely something wrong. He had no compassion, too much ego and no patience. The fact that he had security escort me out for begging him to do some kind of imaging shows what kind of man this is. I What do you everything in my power if I ever have another emergency to not go to Deaconess. read more

Both my father and my wife had surgeries here this month and both experiences where crap. They are taking on more patients than they have room for. So if you have to come here be prepared for long lines and people recovering in every nook and cranny. Never ever give birth here. NICU held my niece for a week and administered antibiotics to her for an infection she tested negative for. She never once had it and even after the knew they that they held her. The intimidated, bullied and threatened our family. They refused to tell my sister and brother in law what medications they were administering. They subjected my niece to multiple heal pricks everyday, all of which case back perfect. They started timing my sisters interactions with her and made it near impossible for her to breastfeed (thank goodness she was determined). They gave her a bottle of water and repeated bottles of formula against their wishes (baby was giving wet diapers and her weight was perfect on breastmilk alone). The power went out one night so my sister rushed down to check on her baby and she was laying their uncovered in the dark, cold in just a diaper crying and the nurses were ignoring her. My sister covered her up and then promptly kicked her out. When it came time to be discharged, they tried keeping them longer saying more unnecessary tests needed done. Her midwife came in at one point to try and get them discharged and they made her leave and said she couldn't come back. There were 2 nurses that were great but unfortunately they only worked a couple a shifts during their visit. They are cruel, cruel people who could care less about driving a wedge between mother and baby. Anytime my sister would push back, they were threaten her with a longer a visit and tell her she's just hormonal and needed to calm down. Please save your baby from them. I have a feeling my sister will be dealing with long term damage from this whole ordeal. read more

Went to Deaconess Cardiac Center for a stress test. I was given and estimate of a little over 5 thousand dollars with an $1100 co-pay which I thought was excessive. But my doctor ordered the test, so I did it. Within a short period of time I started receiving statements from my insurance, and now the test was $18,100 .. with a co-pay of $2500. I filed a complaint with the Washington State Attorney Generals office, the director of Deaconess Billing responded stating that they did not disclose all the codes for the service, and they neglected to inform me of an additional $13,000. They reduced my co-pay to $1400 because of their error, and my insurance paid them around $16,000.. I would not have done the procedure had I been given full disclosure, but I am now stuck paying them $116 a month or they will turn me over to collection. And for $18,100 dollars, nobody told me the results of the test. I had to call my doctors office, and a nurse told me my test was positive and I do not have any health concerns. I was charged $1600 by a doctor who I do not know, and I can only assume he looked at my test results. But not sure what he did, but he got paid. One would think he or someone from his office would have called to tell me what the results were. I feel duped and taken advantage of. I had a colon resection at Sacred Heart several years ago, and had no problems with my hospital or surgeon billing charges. As far as Deaconess handled this problem, it feels like health insurance fraud. I will never have any medical tests at Deaconess again, and feel obligated to alert the general public. All they care about is collecting fees. read more
