I visited this establishment at 4 p.m. on a Saturday. The place was busy and packed, which was a good sign. I was probably in line for 10 minutes total. I ordered an oxtail plate and a curry chicken plate. The person preparing my order was really kind. She smiled and made small talk while fixing my plate. I tried the rice and peas, the macaroni pie, and the oxtail. Everything was flavorful. I loved that the curry had a little bit of heat. The oxtail was tasty, not too fatty, with dark gravy. The kitchen was clean. Checkout was easy. I'll definitely be back to try more Trinidadian options.

The food is fantastic and plentiful, artfully spiced and seasoned. So addictive that if I lived close by I would be in trouble of gaining excessive pounds. I'm smiling just thinking about the ambience, the service and Master Chef Jillian.

Food was just nasty Chicken nasty rice had too much of some kinda seasoning-Mac and cheese literally was just Mac and chunks of cheese unmelted, only thing half good was the cabbage

    Lamb, chicken pilau, and beans

Ordered online delivery. Order took a little longer than expected but was worth the wait. Authentic food, well seasoned, good portions.

Went to an event catered by Jamaica Mi Hungry earlier this year and it was FANTASTIC! Every single…read moredish was delicious and incredibly well seasoned. Some highlights: Garlic shrimp - these were huge and juicy with the perfect amount of garlic flavor. Having this on the rice and beans was heaven on a place and I had several helpings of this! Chicken - this was a little spicy for me, but that's just a personal preference. I could tell that this was well seasoned and people more tolerant to spice would love this - the chicken was still juicy and saucy. This also pairs well with the rice and beans! Plantains - nothing over the top but a nice sweeter bite to balance out the plate. Yummy! Mac n cheese - this was one I wasn't super crazy about - I think a bit more cheese would have been nice here but it wasn't a bad bite. All in all, 4/5 as there were some dishes that didn't blow me away, but the garlic shrimp with the rice and beans is to die for. Would happily have this again or go to the food truck location to order it!

I love Jamaican food so I try to venture out to Jamaica Plain as often as I can!! This unassuming,…read morecasual restaurant offers a wide variety of authentic Jamaican cuisine. Service was quick, seeing as you order from the counter. We ordered the jerk chicken plate with plantains and mac & cheese, and the oxtail plate with curry vegetable stew and rice & beans! The jerk chicken was tender and cooked nicely but wasn't the jerk flavor I was used to. It was a wet sauce instead of a dry rub and kinda tasted like teriyaki...? The plantains were normal, nothing crazy. Mac and cheese was lowkey yum, not too thick. Oxtail was better than the jerk chicken flavor-wise but the meat wasn't cooked as well. The meat didn't fall off the bone like other oxtail does :( The sauce was also a bit thin so it didn't coat the meat as well. The rice & beans were solid, had flavor to it and was even better with the sauce from oxtail. The veggie stew was good too but again, nothing crazy. Overall, I was very satisfied with my meal but unsure if I would go again. There are so many other places in/near JP that I would try first. Still, if you're looking for fast casual Jamaican food, check this place out!!

The restaurant is located right on the corner, with limited street parking and a small lot in the back. It's a cozy, casual place offering Filipino cuisine with a touch of Jamaican flavor. There's a comfortable dine-in area with several tables, and takeout is also available. The food was clearly fresh and homemade, and everything we tried was excellent. I had the jerk chicken, which was flavorful and well-prepared, but I was especially excited to try the Filipino dishes. I sampled a few different options, and each one was delicious and authentic. If you're in the area and looking for a unique mix of Filipino and Jamaican food, this spot is definitely worth checking out. Highly recommended. .

It's a small, family-owned restaurant that's half Filipino and half Jamaican, run by a Filipino Tita and her Jamaican husband. She learned how to cook Jamaican food to remind him of home, which honestly makes the whole place feel even more meaningful. The Filipino dishes I tried were authentic and tasted homemade -- the kind of food that feels like it came straight out of your auntie's kitchen. The Jamaican food was also delicious (I can't personally vouch for authenticity there), but everything we had was flavorful and satisfying. It's a great, casual, order at the counter spot -- and it's right next to a Filipino market, which makes the experience even better. I love supporting small businesses, especially ones that represent my culture. Bright Light is the kind of place that deserves the love.
