This is a Paan only review!! If you are looking to enjoy some good variety of Paan and are in the Schaumburg area then Mumbai Cafe is the place to be. Open later than usual places it's gives you the option to enjoy Paan at the right time - after a satisfying meal. Coming to Paan, Nilu as she prefers to be called is really good at it. We tried her sweet and special sweet ones and they were good. But the stand out one is her special chocolate - paan with chocolate and coconut inside and coated with chocolate. It was just awesome. There is no place in the Chicagoland area where you get this variety of paans. And unless you are those connoisseurs of the exacting nature this is the place to be for a different variety of paan!! read more

Literally, the grand opening was yesterday. It is a nice,clean, trendy and casual spot. They opened a Mumbai (Bombay) themed cafe. They serve pani puri, vada pav, dahi vade, sandwiches, juices, coffee, teas, baraf ke gola (Indian snow cone), halwa and pan. Pan comes in sweet, chocolate and strawberry. The owners are very friendly. The gave out complimentary fresh mitha (sweet) pan with each order. We gave a decent size order so the owner gave us free sugar cane juice which was tasty. I went to this place yesterday. Worse customer service ever. Lady at counter was so rude with every customer. I asked for Paan she said she won't make it because she is super busy. Mumbai Cafe is a good effort to bring the casual Street side Indian food into Chicago suburbs. Their interesting names of the dishes, pans, desserts and non-vegetarian entrees, is a smart marketing strategy. We visit there usually to enjoy the falooda desserts and sandwiches. For some strange reason it takes much longer to prepare the food so neighboring Bhai Bhai section, I haven't tried more than a couple of entrees there so not sure if it's worth the wait. It used to be good, years ago, when they opened this place. Now the story is completely opposite. The service is just terrible. The lady that makes pan, her attitude is extremely rude. We get pan only when Dhruvbhai (or whatever his name is, the guy who is always smiling) is on the counter. He actually makes better pan then anyone else there. Getting pan from that lady is like throwing your money away to nothing. I don't know what she is mad about, all the time, but that kind of customer service is not what we pay for. Let's talk about shaved ice (baraf gola). A lot of my family comes in town and wants to go to places like Mumbai cafe because they don't find baraf gola in their town. Yesterday was 4th time in a row when they didn't have ice. And when asked why don't they have ice since that is one of the reason we go there, the pan lady very rudely said that the ice melted outside otherwise we would get that and make it for you. That joke was uncalled for. Sometimes they only have orange flavored baraf gola. Who in the right state of mind orders orange gola? Messing your order up should be the tagline of this place. Mumbai Cafe - Where we take your money and mess your order up and pretend that you messed up while ordering. Not just our experience but a lot of people say that they never get the order right. When you ask for grilled club sandwich, they will make Mumbai sandwich... And yes the falooda... Never had this much watered down (or milked down) falooda in my life. You know when you own place like Mumbai cafe which reflects a culture, you ought to bring the culture with you and provide customers with quality food, not just some watered down shit that you would not normally find in India or on Indian streets. You just don't sell food, you represent a culture and heritage with the food you offer. Please respect that and stop disrespecting the culture you represent. If you are the owner of this place and reading this review, please do something about the food and customer service. The type of customer service you guys provide is not acceptable. We pay for the goods (in this case, food) you provide, we are not expecting anything for free... And your prices are not cheap either. We (customers) should at least be treated as human beings. Please change your attitudes towards customers and if you can't do so then don't be on that side of the counter. Also, as a customer, I do not wanna listen to the constant bickering going on between the employees. If you got issues between employees, take them offline and solve them. Pav Vada is really good! I tried Pav Bhaji, Mumbai Sandwich and they were OK...not at all close to true Mumbai flavors. Also, there are very few chairs and tables so hard to find a seat. read more

Recently opened Mumbai cafe is right next to Hot Breads on Golf Road, Schaumburg. Looks pretty neat as of now and I am hoping it stays like this. First things First: They need to have trash cans. The ones they have cannot fit Styrofoam plates in them and can only be used for napkins, bottles etc,. I absolutely did not like how there were used trays with leftover food sitting on various tables for long. Few things I liked: their samosa chaat was pretty good, well balanced with their in-house chutneys. I also enjoyed their dahi puris a lot. Wada Pao: This was very basic. I wish they served chutney on side and some fried chillies. But a very mediocre preparation, nothing special. It was not the same with Pani Puris. These were not as crunchy and the kanji(the gol gappa water) was bland. Worst was the Bombay sandwich: it was so soggy that fell apart as picked from the plate. This when I ate in India, we had option of grilling the sandwich, which is fine, I could have liked it, if it stayed in place. The bread was extremely wet with chutneys and potatoes were bland. I would not recommend this to anyone. Paans: My husband tried the meetha paan and he liked it, so I guess after dinner we could hit this place for paans pretty often. Sugarcane juice: Loved it! Please go for some refreshing gingery "ganne ka ras". All in all, it's worth trying but nothing extraordinary. The owners did not engage in conversations but looked pretty nice. I also saw same person who took our order, came and cleaned some tables. This place has a lot of room to improve and I hope they do, we need CHAAT joints. read more

There are immature teenagers employed here who can't even take an order right, but they also roll their eyes when asked for anything. Simply rude. Not so great experience. The place was filthy - dirty floors , food all over the place, tables weren't clean and the bathrooms had toilet papers all over. Clearly they are not able to maintain and keep it clean. Granted its supposed to be self serve - but they need to clean the tables after every guest. We were there for around 1.5 hour and i did not see them cleaning up the tables at all. The lady behind the counter was "over selling" everything and i am not sure if she really knows . We specially asked her about the "Kheema " and she gave us a long winded answer explaining how it was cooked but really served us an egg dish. Perhaps she did not get our question ; but we were very dissapointed by the dish - way too much masala and that too did not seem it was cooked well . Vada Pav and Pani Puri was not bad Kandivili Tea- Horrible. i am not sure why it is called "Kandivili tea" ; its no where close to a good indian tea. We visited Mumbai cafe for some late night paan with our family friends. We were visiting from North Carolina and didn't know what we were in for. We were received with an amazing welcome. They have great variety of paans. We tried several different ones but by far the bhadakti javani paan was an experience. Totally recommend it. Awesome experience. read more

Well after long time I had good bombay shahi sandwich.. It's good . I order coffee there and everytime i get a different taste.. Which is kool !! I like the koffee with different taste .. I have been to this place a 3 times now. Always for snack items. This place is more like a 3.5. I have had their chai, chat, kulfi and special falooda. The falooda was top notch kulfi was decent. Chai was good and chat was below par. Service is friendly and polite, they are always courteous. Prices are higher than Devon but not totally outrageous. I have not tried their sandwiches or any of the entrees. May stop in to give those a try. I would say ok late night spot in the suburbs. read more

The only way my favorite Indian paan and desert place could get any better, would be by making it a one stop place with a dinner menu. They did one better. Everything that other places don't carry, these guys have. Everything the other restaurants offer, they do better and with a twist. The chicken kebab roll was delish!
