Bad experience from food to service. The Hakka noodles tasted like bad Chinese take out without any flavor, the paneer was disappointing and the pav bhaji was anything but authentic. Overall would not come back. To add insult to the bad service, they added automatic gratuity to our bill when our party was only 2 people. Never seen that. read more

Came in for a quick dinner. Okra (bhindi) was unexpected in preparation but satisfyingly dry-not goopy with sauce!- and the dhal was tasty and subtly flavored. Not fiery hot to cater to calmer palettes perhaps but good food in and around the Berklee/Symphony Hall area. read more

I visit Mumbai Spice last night for the first time. I was pleasantly surprised how clean and inviting the place was. I was greeted as soon as as I walk in by a very friendly lady. She helped me choose a dish since I was not quite sure what I want. I order the Chana Masala and Garlic Naan to go... I honestly thought that the bread (naan) is going to be soggy and wet by the time I get home, but no... It was the delicious I mean very delicious.... Soft garlicky bread and slightly spicy chickpeas sauté with garlic, ginger, tomato's and spices... I highly recommend this place. read more

Mediocre restaurant at the best, and that is me being generous. Beware of the total bill including a tip. Food quality was ok, small portions, bland flavor. The Frozen Indian food you get at the Indian supermarkets have more flavor! I also found it very dishonest in how they "sneak" in the gratuity tip in the bill without pointing it out. If we hadn't confirmed with the waitress, we would have ended up paying an additional 15% tip for a very crappy service. I would avoid this place if i could, and do NOT recommend at all. read more

Was excited to try this place, as Indo-Chinese was fairly new to me. Ordered a "Not a Mojito," described as lemonade with ginger and mint syrup. It was so overly-sweet I had to dilute it with water before I could drink it. We had the vada pav, at my companion's recommendation, and it was great! I wouldn't thought a fried potato patty in a bun would be enjoyable, but with the cilantro chutney, it was. My companion also suggested the onion kulcha, which was also really tasty. As an entree, we shared the butter chicken, which was very, very bland, and had very little chicken in it. My companion was stlll hungry afterwards, and so ordered the chicken malai kebab, and I wished we'd ordered that in the first place. It was very flavorful and tender. I am willing to give this place another try, because some of the items we ordered were winners, and they have some interesting menu items that we didn't try. read more

This place is quite overpriced for the bad quality of food that it has. It really had a lack of taste in all of the food that we got.

We waited awhile for our food, they had NO beef and NO brown rice at all. One person in my party ordered beef and they didn't come back to tell us they were out until 10 minutes after putting our order in. When our waitress brought over our food one was completely wrong and they insisted it was right. So we asked for cashews to make it a little closer to what was actually ordered and the waitress brings them over AND SPRINKLES THEM ON OUR FOOD WITH HER FINGERS. Disgusting. The food and service here is incred. I thought there were no good Indian restaurants in Boston but Mumbai spice convinced me that they truly have delicious food. It strikes me that anyone saying the Indian food here is "good", has quite literally no idea what the word "good" means. "Bland," "gooey," "cheap," are likely some of the words they were trying to use instead, but I can assure you that "good" does not make the cut by any stretch of the imagination. Bland, gooey and cheap are even a few of the nicer words that come to mind when describing the lonely Chicken Tikka Masala that arrived at my doorstep from this restaurant today. That's right: Chicken Tikka Masala, folks. The standard Indian food dish - maybe millions ordered around the world every single day. Yet this restaurant has somehow discovered how to take all of the life, flavor, joy, and soul right out of this thing. Maybe it's even impressive if you think about it that way - bland Indian food...It's probably as hard to picture as it was to eat. Bottom Line: To be painfully clear, if you can help it, stay away. Even if you can't help it - find help - be strong and stay away. This thing will devastate you like it devastated me. We had vegetable manchurian, chilly chicken, singapore noodles, honey chilly potatoes. Food was pretty average. Honey chilly potatoes were nice, chilly chicken was ok and so were the noodles. The vegetarian manchurian was uncooked, slimy and had excess of corn starch. The management was really poor, they don't look trained or experienced. There was mismanagement and while there were tables empty waiting to be cleaned and given to the next batch of people, it took time good 15-20 minutes to do so. Go here if you REALLY crave for indo-chinese food. Better go to a Sichuan Chinese restaurant if you want some nice spicy chinese food. Won't go again, won't recommend. read more

Had paneer malai tikka and Mumbai special schezuan fried rice, was amazing and those two really go well together!! It's an Indian take on Chinese food which is true to what we get back in India so if you're into indo Chinese this is definitely the place for you! read more

This is a relatively new eating joint and a great one at that. I tried out this place on a friend's recommendation and this is a worthwhile place. They have a lot going on in terms of food choices. I tried their prawn curry which was delicious and there was a generous quantity of prawns in it which is really appreciated! I would definitely go back to try out other stuff too! read more

The food tastes great and fresh! We ordered a Paneer Makhani and a Matar Paneer, with an order of garlic naan and another of cheese naan, and they were delicious and tasty! Giving 4 stars because of the drinks; we ordered a Cucumber Martini and one that ended with the word Mule (don't remember the full name), they were ok, nothing special. meh. That is basically my experience with this restaraunt. Besides the fact that is ridiculously overpriced, the food is something I have tried really hard to like. I'm Indian and I am from New Jersey, which has a very densely populated Indian community so I have eaten my share of Indian food and at Indian restaraunts and I was expecting more. The indo chinese food was not very flavorful, and if it did have it flavor it was masked in the taste of garlic or hot sauce. Everything pretty much ended up tasting the same and the Punjabi food tasted like every other restaraunt's Punjabi food, nothing really special about it. read more

I live really close to this resturant called Mumbai Spice it has some of the best indo-chinese dishes like chicken manchurian, chili chicken...and their desserts are on point...the jelebi rabri and malia kulfi falooda. I gave 5 stars good food and amazing service read more

The food at Mumbai spice was decent. We stuck with the indian dishes in the menu - gobi65, vada pav, koftas, saag paneer, chicken hariyali and an assortment of breads. The problem was with the service - our water glasses were not filled until well after we were seated and served the drinks we ordered, half of our drink orders came in later than the other, the food was slow to come through. Not sure if this was because they were very busy (restaurant was full) or because our table was tucked into a corner (out of sight, out of mind). Our waiter was courteous but needed to be more educated on the menu. read more

Big Mistake! Ordered takeout for family birthday: 5 minute walk from restaurant. Ordered saag (paneer & chicken), chicken tikka masala, malai kofta, pakoras & kulchas. asked for tamarind & mint chutneys. Brought food home - no chutneys! Saags were the the worst I've ever tasted (I recommend the Trader Joe's version in a microwave for a better dish). Chicken Tikka masala was mostly sauce w/ a few measly pieces of chicken. Malai kofta was the most unrefined of a potentially nice recipe that was left to unresplendent deep fried veggie balls in a sauce. And both the sauces of the m. kofta and masala were cold. Absolutely terrible customer service! I called for takeout and the staff said to come by in 20min. I arrived at the restaurant 25min later. I was told they were "quite busy" so I'd have to wait 10 more min. I agreed and waited another 15 -20 min. Then I got the same response, apparently they were still "quite busy" even though I could see empty tables. I canceled my order and went elsewhere. I have been to Mumbai Spice a few times. I wouldn't say the food is bad but it's not the best. The service was the worst. We were simply told we could not eat there because we did not have a reservation. After requesting them and waiting for over 30 mins we were given a table. No one came to take our order for a long time. The food is okay. If you really want to eat their food order take out or delivery. 3 stars for food 0 for service. read more

UNRELIABLE! I ordered food via delivery at 9.15pm via Grubhub seeing as this restaurant does not deliver. GrubHub tried to contact the restaurant for 45 minutes, and no one answered, hence my order was cancelled! I had called them 15 minutes before to ask if they were busy and they said not really. They say they close at 10.30pm and GrubHub are also very confused as to why they didn't answer the phone and just let it ring out! I only gave this restaurant a chance since I had enjoyed their food when they were called a previous name (Chinese Mirch). I was looking forward to trying Mumbai Spice for a while and finally went in today for lunch. The restaurant is small with a row of dining tables along the window which are situated very close together. There were, however, a few roomy booths available at the front of the restaurant. We were seated instead along the side next to the window, next door to another couple who were uncomfortably close. It seemed obvious to me that the seating arrangement was convenient to the wait person as she could serve multiple customers at once. My dining companion and I ordered several different dishes so as to maximize our experience. He ordered a dish (marked as favored by Indians everywhere) called butter chicken. I ordered one of their signature dishes called Mumbai Chicken. A side of brown rice, peshewari naan, and fried lotus root (hey, you only live once) rounded out the lunch menu. The butter chicken came with a creamy tomato sauce and was very good, although I thought a little bland. The Mumbai chicken was basically fried chicken bits rolled in a mixture of exotic spices. The flavors that exploded in my mouth upon the first bite of the Mumbai chicken were extraordinary. The problem with the dish, from my perspective, was that it did not come with any sort of sauce. As flavorful as the chicken was, it became very ordinary when taken with just a side of rice. I found the bread equally dull, although my companion liked it. It seemed dry and the typical fun flavors of peshwari were just not there. As for the fried lotus root, it is worth a try if you've never had it before. Hard to describe, a bit more chewy than I anticipated, but interesting. While I would have given the overall meal a higher rating, what dragged the experience down for me was the poor customer service. The food arrived all at once, The opportunity to make lunch fun and relaxing by pacing the arrival of appetizer and main course was missed. Even more disappointing was that after the meal we were left sitting with a table of dirty dishes for at least 10 minutes before the check arrived and another 10 afterward. It would have been nice to have the table cleared immediately upon finishing the meal. Instead the only place available for me to sign the bill was on top of my plate which still contained uneaten food. I don't expect that I will return, even though I live just a few blocks away and pass by the restaurant regularly. read more

I haven't had Indian food as bad as this place. The paneer curry is horrible, they have dipped the paneer in some bland sauce. Same with the pepper chicken curry. However, the Indian chaat and tandoori chicken are good. Try samosa chaat. read more
