First time ever in Boston and wanted to get the full experience of their seafood. I heard a lot of good things about this place and the long lines. I was a bit hesitant, at first, but it was worth it! We didn't have to wait long at all. There was an opening at the bar, so we took it. I loved how it was right on the water and had a cozy charm to it. I had a Moscow mule, a cup of clam chowder and split the calamari and steamed mussels. Everything was so fresh. I'm glad this was my first food stop in Boston.
Chill ambiance with views of the harbor. The wait time can be quite long. We waited about an hour and a half for a table. I ordered the warm Lobster Roll and New England Clam Chowder. The lobster roll was a solid 3/5 stars but the clam chowder was the star of the show. Easily 5/5 stars... I would go back just for that. It was so flavorful and packed with clams.
THE FAWKIN CLAM CHOWDA! Oh my gawd this was the best clam chowder I think I've ever had (but I'm Minnesotan) we loved dining on the patio and eating a ton of food. We hit it hard getting the clam chowder, lobster roll, lobster Mac and cheese and shrimp entree. The shrimp was delicious as were the fries served with it, nice crispy and seasoned how I like it. I personally wasn't crazy about the Mac and cheese or the roll because I'm not a huge lobster fan BUT my friends said it was delicious and they loved the huge chunks of lobstaaa. Our waiter was super fun and friendly.
This is my second time in Boston and I had to stop by here because on our last trip, we tried so many clam chowders and it was nothing compared to this place!! By far THEE BEST CLAM CHOWDER EVER!! We also ended up getting the lobster roll and holy moly, did you see how much lobster is in that roll?? Unbelievable!! So worth it!! I also never had a boston cream pie before (i know, bummer) so i thought, why not try it here since their lobster roll and clam chowder is superior! Boston cream pie did not disappoint! It was not as sweet as it looks but sweet enough! The service was amazing per usual! Our server is super attentive and even though it was super packed and busy, our wait was only 15m. And ambiance is nice too because it's by the water. Overall, HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!!!!! Everything was 10/10 PERFECTION!!
If I could give this place more stars, I absolutely would. The fact that anyone has anything negative to say about Boston Sail Loft blows my mind. From start to finish, we had an amazing experience here. We ate here on Sunday. They open at 11:30am. We got in line around 11:00 am, and there were already dozens of people waiting in line for them to open . Around opening time, the owner came out and personally greeted everyone as they came into the restaurant. He was so friendly. He greeted passers-by on the street and talked with the locals. The staff was friendly and answered all our questions. They provided recommendations and offered suggestions. We sat at a window table and were able to see out at the boats. It was cute and quaint inside! I got a cup of the clam chowder. I 100% recommend it! They add dill and omit the pork, which made it so delicious! My friend and I split the fish and chips, and it was more than enough for two people. The fish was cooked perfectly and the fries (chips) were crispy without being too crunchy. We added a bit of pepper to our fish, and my goodness does that make a difference. If you visit Boston, want an awesome local establishment with delicious food and overly friendly staff, this is the place for you. This was my third visit to Boston and I'm so sad I didn't know about it sooner. It's a MUST.
Busy restaurant on the water and one of my favorite lobster rolls on this trip. Huge portions and very lively in here. Server was a bit slow but due to the influx from the FIFA fans. Started with the cup of clam chowder that comes dripping from the cup. They use a lot of dill here and come out hot. A bit on the salty side but oyster cracker helps with that. The lobster mac and cheese came with a salad. The lobster mac had a nice broiled cheese top and a creamy inside. Nice lobster and cheesy flavor to it. I got the warm lobster roll and changed it to come with onion rings for $1. The onion rings tasted homemade. Slight crisp to it and thick onions. The lobster roll was massive and the amount of lobster it came with was incredible. Poured the hot butter and squeeze lemon on it for an amazing bite. Would come back here for a larger party to share the plates and order more stuff from here. The lobster bisque is only on the weekends. They have daily menus as well.
I came here for the first time and it's one of my favorite spots in Boston! I love the views and our server was wonderful. I got the lobster rolls without the bread. I got the most bang for my buck with how much lobster I got. It was delicious and I would come back in the future!
Tourist trap. Best clam chowder? I beg to differ, had way better at the Chelsea Market fish market. Our plan was to sit outside at a table on their SIDEWALK area with my 10lb dog in her stroller, but the hostess said, with an attitude, no dogs allowed in the patio area. Patio area? You mean the sidewalk? Isn't the sidewalk a public area? We were confused. We tried to clarify because maybe he was confused? But no, he said no again. My mom was hungry so we opted to get a bowl of chowder to go and we put our name down at the restaurant next door who was UBER dog friendly and even gave my girl a dog bone when we checked in, and lots of pets. Anyways the clam chowder should be renamed to dill chowder because dang, why so much! And hardly any clam, mostly potatoes. Not a fan of the policy or the chowder, would not recommend
Sail me to the moon with the Clam Chowder they make here! Our first stop on a food tour, we came in for the legendary Clam Chowder. It was an absolute treat to say the least. Thickest, most seasoned, and most delicious Clam Chowder I've ever had. I wanted a second one but knew we had more on our tour to enjoy so I had to resist. In one of my photos attached, the spoon stands straight up in the mug! Incredible! The other food getting served around us looked great too. Definitely adding this to our "come back to" list when we visit Boston again.
Please forgive me--but sometimes people really do get it so wrong. I'm still trying to wrap my head around the good reviews about this place, as I fell into a tourist trap-- like a bear to honey. We were visiting Boston for the first time and, after a long day of travel on a cold, rainy evening, we were looking forward to a "classic" New England meal--especially clam chowder and a lobster roll. The restaurant was very crowded and loud (Sunday night), but we were seated fairly quickly. However, service was underwhelming; our waitress wasn't particularly engaging or helpful with recommendations. We ordered the clam chowder and a cold lobster roll, along with lobster mac & cheese for my child and a rice and stir-fried vegetable dish for myself. The clam chowder was decent, but quickly forgettable. The lobster roll was fine, but nowhere near the reputation it carries. The mac & cheese was similarly underwhelming from the first bite. The veggie stir-fry dish was inedible. I returned it after the first bite. Unless you enjoy food straight out of a mall food court in 1985--stuck in time, and not in a good way. They should be ashamed to offer this as the ONLY vegetarian option: too sweet, too sticky, and completely underwhelming. The manager did acknowledge that this dish is not well received in general. So why is it still on the menu? Overall, the experience didn't live up to the reputation or the reviews we had seen. If you're in Boston for that classic seafood experience, I'd honestly look elsewhere.
Tried the lobster roll (market price was $40 atm), clam chowder, and the fish and chips. For the price of everything, only the clam chowder was worth it to us. Kind of outrageous for the prices considering the volume of food and prices alone. We waited 1.5 hours as well. We would only come back for the clam chowder unfortunately. Ambiance is on the dock and there's lots of seating inside and a few outside. 6.4/10
We arrived on the weekend just as they were about to open and a lone had already began to form. We joined the end of the line and were able to get in with the first flow of people. They were counting heads when we fell in line so we weren't sure we'd get in with the first group. Once inside we were sat by a window table that was very nice. Got up to go to the restroom and was surprised at how large the restaurant actually is and quite spacious too. Food was good, service was outstanding and atmosphere was nice and fun!
After walking our way through Boston for the day, we stopped for a late lunch at Boston Sail - we were seated immediately on a weekday for a late lunch, right by a window. My husband and I both opted for clam chowder and a lobster roll. The chowder was probably some of my favorite - the amount of dill in it was heavenly and made it taste so fresh! I honestly wish I had just gotten a full serving of this. The lobster roll however was only okay - but I fully recognize that it we were there slightly too early for the lobster season. It just wasn't as flavorful as I want my lobster to be. However, I love that they offer both hot and cold options.

No reservations accepted, it's first come first serve. You add your name on the waitlist at the host stand. Wait time was about 45mins for a party of 2 on a Sunday around 6p with an increasing wait time. My mom and I ordered the fish and chips and both agreed it was lacking in flavor. The clam chowder was delicious and arrived hot. The fish and chips were lukewarm at best, coleslaw was ok, it has raisins in it, that was unexpected, but wasn't too bad. It's a small restaurant with a 90min limit on tables, food comes out quick. Overall, I'd return for clam chowder and a hot lobster roll that was suggested by the table next to us. read more

Delicious! This was our first meal in Boston and it did not disappoint. My husband and I shared a bowl of clam chowder and a New England lobster roll. We chose the hot lobster roll served with butter, and it came with fries and coleslaw. I also enjoyed a refreshing Aperol Spritz. Everything was fresh, flavorful and a great introduction to Boston's seafood scene. This spot is a must visit. read more

What can I say that has not been said. This is the best chowder I have ever had! Service was great! The GM or Owner was so welcoming I would have bought ice from him in a blizzard! You cannot go wrong here! Even the sidewalk seating had a cover that made dining outside a breeze! It is a sea side diner in the heart of Boston! Go for the chowder and stay for the history! read more
Long wait, but worth it. Located on the water with great views. Have to try the clam chowder. Absolutely delish. We had to try the Lobster roll since I am in New England. It was very good and packed with lobster claw meat. Comes with side of fries and Cole slaw. Finished off with the bread pudding. Not as big of a fan of this one. read more

.....and the winner is Boston Sail Loft!!!! Wow is all I could say. From the clam chowder to the lobster rolls to the service, it was fantastic. Place was busy so we put our name down and told it would be 45 minutes. We went on a little stroll and 20 minutes later got a text saying our table ready. Our server was Maddie who was super friendly and attentive. Clam chowder - 9 out of 10 (should have ordered a bowl instead of a cup) Lobster Rolls - we got one of each. One warm with butter the other cold and mixed with Mayo. 10 out of 10. Pricey but hey... you're on vacation and in Boston. We sat outside in the front enjoying the beautiful weather and experiencing Boston people watching. Definitely stop here if you're in Boston. read more
I was in Boston for work and wanted seafood. Found this place with great reviews. Since I was a solo eater I was seated quickly. Service was quick i had one of their specials lobster roll, i got it warmed with butter and fries. It was just OK. The lobster was overcooked (it was rubbery) fries really didn't have much seasoning. But everything was served hot. The restaurant has a rustic flare to it. Over all it was just ok. read more

First visit, I came in a bit early (around 5:30 PM during the week) and was seated right away, although the restaurant was quickly filling up. Started with a local craft draft and a cup of clam chowder soup. Most definitely one of the best clam chowder I've ever had anywhere! I could've and probably should've stopped there, but I chose to also order a lobster roll. The lobster roll was good, but nothing truly note worthy. The bread it came did taste bakery fresh. For $40 I was hoping I would be blown away by this lobster roll but it was not meant to be.. The roll did come with a generous helping of fries and a tiny, albeit delicious, side of coleslaw. Server was efficient, but not overly friendly. Some of the tables (like mine) are tightly together and offer no privacy. read more
Perhaps my favorite stop in Boston right after an aquarium day. We were maybe 6th in line and glad we were because this place gets packed very quickly! We opted to sit outside on that beautiful day and our server was very kind and chatted with us a bit about our visit. First off, clam chowder here is a non-negotiable. It is literally perfect and I have 0 notes to give on it other than that you HAVE to order a cup or bowl. We also tried the swordfish sandwich was tasted incredibly fresh and tasty! Fries were great too! Really can't beat eating by the harbor with views of boats and the ocean. Can't wait to come back one day! read more

Right on the water. Quaint size. Excellent service the clam chowder, lobster roll, lobster mac and cheese was delicious! Very filling!! Close to the freedom trail short walk to Paul reveres house but is uphill from this location. read more
We did wait over an hour but we walked around the to the nearby shops and it wasn't too bad. The service was great with everyone being so friendly and attentive. Clam chowder, calamari, and service were 10/10. The clam chowder had flavor and nice chucks of clams. The calamari was fried perfectly! We both go the surf and turf with stuffed shrimp, and it was a miss, especially at that price point. The veggies were soggy and the potatoes had so much cream that it was hard to eat. The steaks were good until we got to the middle, where it was just so gristly. We did enjoy the shrimp stuffed with lobster. We'd definitely come back for the clam chowder and maybe try the lobster rolls and fish and chips next time. read more

Cute restaurant well known for their chowder! We arrived around 11 to wait for the opening of the restaurant at 11:30. It was well worth the wait and were seated at the bar. I had an entree size garden salad and the appetizer portion of the the fried Ipswich clams. I love these clams and Boston Sail Loft does them so well-light and crispy coating and the clams are so fresh, tender and briny. Their clam chowder is a must have and different from any I've tried-thick, chunky and flavored with fresh dill. Love this place and will definitely be back! read more

First time in Boston and we stayed close by at the intercontinental. This was about a 15 minute walk from there. We stopped in for lunch and this was our first meal in Boston. We were greeted by the hostess and then the owner, who were both very friendly! We were sat after a short wait as it was the lunch rush hour. We started off with the clam chowder, which is phenomenal. Even our kids loved it. We then shared a warm lobster roll and the fried platter sampler. Our kids shared a mac and cheese which was size-able. The restaurant was right next to the dock so it had a nice view. Everyone here was very friendly and attentive. I highly recommend checking these folks out, you won't be disappointed. read more
Probably my favorite seafood restaurant during my 4-day visit to hear the Boston Symphony. The batter is light, the seafood fresh, the views great, the staff very friendly and chill. Get a table near the windows so you can see the boats on the wharf I love that they have a long list of daily specials (something for everyone) with great prices. $39 single lobster (1.5 lbs) with mussels is a good deal, but $70 twin is an awesome steal. Next time, will go to Tanglewood in the summer and come here for fish and seafood pasta! read more

Food: Shrimp and clam chowder was bomb. Chicken tenders weren't that bad either. The turkey sandwich I'd skip. Very dry. Clam chowder and shrimp though.. pretty earth shattering. We went to Boston Sail Loft for a weekday lunch and our meal hit the spot. We arrived in Boston and wanted to get seafood and the reviews for Boston Sail Loft were very good so we stopped in to try it out. They have a good selection of local craft beer on draft and a full bar menu with all of your typical options. I started off with the New England clam chowder. This is one of the best clam chowders that I've had before. The chowder is very thick and creamy with a generous portion of clams and potatoes in the chowder. For my entree, I ordered the New England lobster roll. There are large pieces of lobster in the sandwich and the lobster tasted very fresh. The restaurant is very casual and the service is very quick and friendly. The restaurant overlooks the water and the outside of the restaurant reminds you of a seafood shack. I will definitely come back the next time I'm in Boston. read more
I can't recommend this place enough! When in Boston make this one of your meals! We brought our adult kids and grandson. He tried lobster for the first time. We actually ate two meals here during our short stay :) I got my favorite meal- clam chowder and a lobster roll (New England style). Others ordered the whole belly clams, fish sandwich, and a regular lobster roll. We went at lunch right when they opened and there was already a line. Worth the wait. Service is friendly and efficient. Can't wait to go back next year!! read more
I had to wait just to sit at the bar...but...I was told by a local this is where I wanted New England Clam Chowder. And he wasn't wrong. Creamy, savory. With cracked black pepper added it was amazing. I ordered a Long Island and it was so strong I had them add Coke twice so I could finish it. Order the full bowl of chowder. You won't be disappointed. All of the food I saw come out looked amazing. read more

Will we have a hard time getting a table for 9 people?
Seating is tight. I would recommend getting two separate tables instead of asking to seat 9.
There are not allowed to share a red lobster with friends?Why?
I couldn't tell you. We both ate all of our lobster. Maybe one of you order a lobster and the other order something else and share. No one can really stop you from doing that.
