I took an antique ring that had the opal broken to Munchels. After examining the ring I was advised not to replace the stone with another opal as they are fragile stones and this was a very thin setting. I opted for an amethyst as purple is my favorite color and my oldest son and grandson birthstone. When I got the ring back it was absolutely beautiful!!! Brought a chain there to be fixed (minor repair). I was interested in trading it in and was told 2 very different prices on it as far as trade. Both sales people were condescending and pre judging me because I came in with gym clothes on. The repair was fine and affordable that's why I'm giving 3 stars however if someone from management reads this, I would make sure to coach your employees on customer service and sales. I would give 0 stars in that category there. The rep there basically told me what I had was piece of crap. It is very evident upon entering their store that Munchel's strives to provide quality customer service and work. My experience dictates to me that their customer service, although they strive for perfection, falls short of the goal. My situation was unique and Munchel's was not able to assist me in a manner that was satisfactory. My roadblock came with the flow of information and the delivery of said information. The story is a detailed one, and I won't relay it all here. Instead, I offer you a short and inadequately detailed summary: I was given very bad information over the phone from a Munchel's employee. This information, seemingly satisfactory at the time, led to an expensive investment at a jeweler in the state where my fiance lives. Upon visiting Munchel's store, I was informed that the original information I was given was incorrect. Let me be very clear in saying that the DELIVERY of said information (attitude, tonality and choice of words) is where I took issue, NOT the information itself. Still ready and willing to attempt to do business with them, I made another phone call the following day, and again I found myself at the receiving end of a sarcastic and somewhat rude tone of voice - it's as if this person (it was a different employee each time) went on the defensive, yet I wasn't accusing them of anything - I was merely asking for verification of the new information ,and relaying my experience so that they might prevent a similar situation from happening to other customers in the future. Throughout the entirety of the second and third conversations, I was polite and understanding (said my please and thank you's, waited patiently, etc), and made every effort to be very conscientious of MY OWN tone of voice and choice of words. I really am at a loss right now - I just don't know what I did to be spoken to in such a manner. I guess they have enough business and they didn't need mine, because they sure didn't seem like they wanted it. Although I have yet to experience the quality of their work, they seem to have craftsmen who are quite adept and have quality tools at their disposal to aid them in providing excellent work - which is why I chose to give them three stars, instead of one. EDIT: I also want to include that prior to the incident at the store that lead me to shed a few tears, the young man assisting me was doing everything in his power to help me find a solution. I am a Munchel's fan, even though I have only had work done there twice. I have had two rings resized at Munchel's, one sterling (in 2007) and one gold. In both instances the work was spot-on, from the consultation to final fitting. Munchel's is family-owned and operated and they have an attractive showroom featuring beautiful custom pieces and standard decent-quality jewelry. I brought them my 12 year old, fully-functioning Citizen Calibre chrono - Only a $600 watch, but with TREMENDOUS sentimental value. ALMOST 6 MONTHS LATER, I finally got my watch back... from Citizen (Not Munchels). Still interested? Keep reading. LONG story. I've been waiting over 5 months to leave this review. August 2017: Broke a pin in the band. My wife brought it to Munchels to have it repaired while I was out of town. The pin fell out within 24 hours. Early Sept: Decided it was a "fluke", so I brought my beloved Citizen for a "restoration". After 12 years of daily use, it was badly scratched (but 100% working perfectly). I told them to polish it, clean it, and replace the mineral crystal with a saffire crystal. Paid Munchels $69. Late Sept: I called to inquire, and was told " We're sorry, we dropped the ball. We have so much work it got missed. We're starting today, and will have it back in a week" Early October: I get the watch back. It looks beautiful, but they tell me "Our pressure tester is broken, but we never have any problems, so you should be fine". Watch fogs up after WASHING MY HANDS (not even a shower, just a quick hand-washing) within 24 hours. 3 days later: I bring it back to have it repaired (keep in mind, it was never "broken" in the first place) October.... November: Called every week to 10 days, excuse, after excuse, after excuse, after excuse. "Our seals wont work"... "Our pressure tester repairman is sick"... "Citizen wont sell me the parts" (Keep in mind, they've already replaced the crystal once)... finger-pointing, excuses, no call-backs... absolutely horrible. December: "Citizen wont sell me the parts... they are jerks that are trying to rip me off.... so we have to send it to Citizen to have it repaired" Late December: "Citizen finally called us back, they said it needs $275 in repairs, They are ripping us off... but don't worry Mr. Loomis, we're going to take care of that for you, but they said it would take 2 more months" December..... January: No response.... "Citizen said they had to order the parts... we'll let you know when we hear something" (I'm sure it's normal for citizen to mysteriously run out of parts on one of their most popular watches... that they still make in 2018 - Sarcasm).... more excuses..... more finger-pointing Feb 10th, 2018 (Almost 6 months since I initially brought it to them for a simple pin in the band): I F I N A L L Y got my watch back from Citizen. It's beautiful, works perfectly, and is like new again. Once again, I brought them a fully-functional Citizen (with lots of scratches), and asked them to restore it. They made it pretty, but broke it.... twice.... and then they had to send it to the professionals at Citizen. This wasn't a "rare" or "vintage" watch. Just a run-of-the-mill Citizen with sentimental value. I cannot even imagine ever bringing my Omega to them. Just the thought of it scares me. I have a $750 Bulova Precisionist Champlaign Chronograph with a stripped crown that needs repair..... I'm also in the immediate market for a $4000 (preowned) Tag Heuer Monoco LS chrono. Needless to say, I wouldn't take another step into Munchels if I were being held at gunpoint. Never, ever, ever again. You've been warned. read more

Clerk scrutinized ring and said it looked too dirty for them to have worked on it. I had to convince him this was the ring. Then he charged me to fix it. When I asked 'don't you guarantee your work?' We have been coming here for years. Beautiful merchandise. We will not be returning, however, and let me explain my reasons. We brought some rings in for sizing. The opal ring that we purchased from them was badly chipped during sizing. When brought to their attention, a debate ensued and of course they would accept no blame. They finally agreed to grind the chips out and buff the stone making it much smaller. At later inspection, I found that the stone had also cracked. The signet ring, which we also purchased from them in mint condition, ended up with a deep gouge in it after sizing which they blamed on the antiquity of the piece. The endless Abbott and Costello debate was exhausting. The gouge could not be fully buffed out. A wedding band was also sized incorrectly and now cannot be worn. Perhaps the work was handed off to an apprentice that day. This should never have happened with such a well established company. read more

Extremely disappointed. I can only remark on their watch service. I went to Munchel's because Supposedly a Premier and Fine Jewelry Store. I found the watch Tech was extremely uneducated. After 5 minutes of inspecting a watch it was handed back to me. They could not find any info in the book on the watch and could not get the case off. Two minutes of my time and the manufacture web site, I know more about the watch than a certified tech! I'm going to say the watch tech is not family. Not the same passion. read more

I am a Munchel's client/costumer for many years. This is a family owned business. They all are extremely Friendly and always make me feel like family. The showroom look amazing, beautiful pieces every wear. They have made several Jewelry alteration, repairs (jewelry and watch) and custom work for me through the years. Most of the work not easy, not because of the work on task (I believe they have enough talent and knowledge between them to do any task) because of me. I am a very demanding and perfectionist client. Every work that they made for me excess my expectations and more. In the rare case that I was not satisfy, or the work have to be change or made a alteration after is done. They do not hesitate to duet or to duet right, always. Definitely the main reason I keep going there is for his people, what a wonderful and great group of professionals. Do not take my work for it.
