I've been coming here for a few years. It's a very busy office. I have never had to wait very long. I've been very happy with the care. They conduct all of the eye tests in a professional manner. The techs are gentle with eye drops. Very thorough testing including photos of the eyes. The doctors are friendly & knowledgeable. Also, they have a great selection of eyeglasses & sunglasses. The techs are great at helping with lenses especially if you need progressive lenses. read more

While our first experience was excellent, this most recent visit was truly superb and exceeded our expectations in every way. I have been going here for a few years now. I had Dr. Lewis. Making the appointment was easy and pain free. It seems like every time that I go, they increase the available office space. The staff is so friendly and helpful. There are many options for eyeglasses. Would recommend to others. As a significantly near-sighted patient, I am used to certain indignities at eye clinics, like being expected to navigate hallways with ease without my contacts in (my vision is -5.25), at a rapid pace, even when I'm not familiar with the layout, or having to talk with the doctor about my eye health, including any surprises that may have come up, without being able to see their face clearly because my contacts cannot be reinserted until after the exam. One would think that a vision clinic would be sensitive to the experience of the patient in this regard, but that is rarely the case. What has never happened to me before until yesterday with Dr. Natalia Chramiec, who I met for the first time yesterday, was being ESCORTED TO BILLING WITHOUT MY CONTACTS IN. This was after finding out that there is evidence of growth of new blood vessels in my cornea--a condition I've since learned is corneal neovascularization, although my doctor never shared this term with me nor gave me printed information regarding this condition--and that I would need to switch to daily wear contacts, which would carry an additional expense, although she couldn't say how much, and "You'll probably get a $200 rebate, anyway." I am really frustrated by the thoughtlessness of this physician for taking me to billing immediately after delivering that news without even giving me a moment to put my contacts in so I could read the paperwork associated with that visit with ease. I shared my frustration with the billing representative, who was kind. I shared it three hours later with the receptionist when I called to cancel next year's appointment, saying that based on today's experience, I would not be back. She never asked why. I need to come back to have the daily wear lens fitted. I will not be back after that visit. Neither will my three family members for whom I make appointments. Sadly, this experience clouds two areas of the practice that deliver great service: billing & the optical shop. read more

I had scar tissue removal surgery and was told that after the surgery I'd get an eye exam and the price was included in the surgery. Well upon leaving I was told that I owed $50 for the prescription for eye glassses which I don't need and didn't want. They use deceptive practices to get your money. Stay away from them. read more

I am a 42 year old mother this is going to be kind of long. On 3-11-2025 I had surgery on my right eye to fix my cataract. It went smoothly and I healed well. Surgery on my left eye was scheduled for the 3-25-2025. On the 17th I tore my esophagus and was unable to have the surgery. On the date I was supposed to have my second eye surgery I saw Dr. Qi. I said, "hey given the nature of my job, I work in a factory, I don't want to go back to work because the vision in my left eye isn't great." He agreed to fill out medical disability paperwork keeping me off. I assumed that's what he did and I went on my merry way. On March 29th the disability company called saying the paperwork was inaccurate. I called his office that Monday the 31st and he was out of the office for the week. I waited. Thinking the conversation we had was that he was keeping me off work. April 8 I saw Dr. Qi and explained the situation. He told me that he meant to send me back with restrictions, a point that I missed in the conversation apparently. But I think when your doctor says, "yea we can write something to keep you off ", that they're going write something to keep you off. At no point did he say anything about restrictions. But I do not think this was done intentionally. This was a lack of understanding on his part that restrictions and disability are handled by two separate companies. That when he sent my paperwork in that he wasn't sending it to my plant. Had he said, I'm giving you restrictions and the company can decide. I would have needed them before I left. But by the time he got back that was a moot point. My objective obviously was keeping my job. There was a very real possibility that I was going to lose my job. And I expressed this to him and in the driest most monotone voice he just kept saying yea, I'm sorry but the paperwork has to match or there will be red flags. At any rate he refused to change the paperwork. Even though my job was on the line. After a back and forth with him and a good cry in the car. I called back to cancel all my future appointments. The lady who answered wanted me to speak with Evan. I can genuinely say Evan was the only person who seemed at all interested in helping me. But even he could not grasp the concept that a. You can't call my job and talk to HR no one is answering and if they aren't back tracking their explanation was useless. 2 that the company I work for and the company that handles disability are separate and do not share my medical information. I received a call back from Evan and another staff member, a woman, she was accusatory defensive and dismissive. It was infuriating to have to answer this lady's questions because it was full of judgment. She was not calling to help me. She was calling to shift blame. I did not think it was intentional on either part I think there just wasn't a meeting of the minds. But I don't feel that it should cost me my job. At the end of the conversation they sent me an ambiguous note that did nothing. Luckily, i did not lose my job but I am suspended and won't get any income for a month. I agree with the assessment of Dr. Qi acting like a robot. A cold heartless robot. And the lady I spoke with was just as heartless only she wasn't cold she was argumentative. If you don't need any type of common human decency, please use them. They should really take the word CARE out their name. read more

Came in with eye pain while driving, and got a full comprehensive eye exam. They told me I had 20/20 vision, and told me that the pain I experience while driving "will never really go away." I overhead some of the workers openly talking about me saying "I don't want to grab that girl can you." Shook it off really didn't want to cause a scene. Then continued to checkout and they had me pay $50 for a "prescription." I asked why and she said that it was the only way I would get my prescription that I had originally asked for before I knew I had 20/20. Now fast forward to today and after 30 days my balance of $200 was sent to a collections agency. They told me I have to contact the agency to pay towards any balance, and at this point I'm just irritated. I'm very displeased with this place and I will not be coming back. read more

I ordered glasses from them, and they still would not give my the measurement. First time making an appointment with this location. I should have looked at the reviews first. Googled nearby Eye locations. My mistake. First Visit, a full comprehensive eye exam that had taken 2 hours. (not the complaint). Doctor told me to come in a month later just to check the pressure in my eyes, in case I needed a different medication. Follow up visit (one month later), a 10 minute eye pressure check with a different doctor, whom seem to be upset that the other doctor had taken vacation and started asking me if I wanted to continue seeing him or the other doctor, very aggressive like. Seem like poaching patients to me. I told him that I would just stay with the first doctor. When I was checking out, they charged me the same exact amount as the first visit, I asked "Why is this the same cost for a lot less service" The cashier did not have the answer so proceeded to get a manager. Short version, after going back and forth with the manager, he kept repeating Government Service Codes to me instead of answering the question and he stated "The doctor put in the correct government service code." Without never explaining why it was so much nor offered to reduce the cost for such a short visit. This place is about the money and not the care of it's patients. Never going back. read more

I called to make an appointment with Munster Eye Care, and I got in days later. I was really impressed with this. I provided both my medical insurance and vision insurance to the lady on the phone when I originally made my appointment, and she guaranteed that they accepted both of my insurances. On the day of my appointment, I arrived, and the lady who checked me informed me that they do not accept my vision insurance, only my medical insurance. This was my first red flag. I had to wait over 45 minutes to get called to see the doctor. I see the doctor and he tells me it is $50 to get my prescription and I agreed because I assumed that a doctor would know how to get my prescription appropriately. Well, he wouldn't give me my prescription until I ordered glasses from their dispensery that I had to pay out of pocket for because they didn't accept my vision insurance. This was my second red flag. If I knew I was forced to buy glasses there, I would not have gotten the prescription there. The only reason why I went through with the glasses purchase was because they assured me that they give 6 months to adjust my prescription if I need it. Which made me feel more comfortable with getting my prescription there. I ordered my glasses on May 1, 2023, and it is now May 30, 2023, and I still do not have my glasses. They told me it would take 10-15 days to receive my glasses. They originally arrived 16 days later, but they put my perfect line of sight at the very bottom of my lenses. They messed up my glasses. This was my third red flag. It was like I was in a fish bowl, looking out to the world, and everything was a sphere. It is now 2 weeks after they reordered my glasses, and they still have yet to get them in, even though the lady mentioned she was putting in a rush order on them. This is a horrible service for paying nearly $700 for glasses once everything is done. I will never return to this place ever again. I recommend everyone stay far away. Update: After calling them and waiting 20+ minutes on the phone for them to tell me my glasses weren't in yet, I received 3 text messages and 2 emails saying that they were ready for pickup. I go in to pick them up, and they are STILL NOT RIGHT!!! The manager said my prescription is wrong and the perfect line of sight is too low STILL. I originally told the eye doctor when he was testing my vision for my prescription that I couldn't see with the prescription that he had just prescribed me. He had set the machine to my prescription and asked me to read the line of letters. All I could see were dots and dashes, nothing else. This prescription is like thick magnification. I have 20/20 vision in my right eye and 20/19 in my left eye. They scheduled me an appointment to get my prescription yet again and to measure my eyes yet again. I'm going to return these and go elsewhere. I'm so sick of dealing with these incompetent fools. They have yet to give me my refund. They said since I had the glasses remade, I can't return them. What stupid logic is that? I fought with them for over 2 hours trying to get a refund. Russell and Laura cornered me and my 4 year old son in a small room and continued to tell me it was my fault for ordering the glasses in the first place. They said since my insurance didn't cover glasses there, i should have never ordered there. If i want to pay full price for glasses, what is it to them? Who are they to tell me how to spend my money? It's not my problem that noone there knows how to do their jobs. They had me retested and my prescription was way too strong and the measurements was way off. I went to a different place today, Lounge Optical and the eye doctor today commented on how my new prescription from Munster that I got yesterday is way too stronger for me. So he gave me a new prescription and I ordered glasses at Lounge Optical. Update, they are trying to keep 30% restocking fee that theynever disclosed while I ordered the glasses nor have I ever signed for, so I file a formal complaint with the BBB. read more

If you don't mind giving your social security number to them, by all means see them. However you will spend a minimum of 3.5 hours. After being a patient of Dr Nguyen since October 22, 1997 (23 years) I was asked in September or October of 2020 I was asked for my social security number as they didn't have it on file. There is NO reason to have a social security number on file as NO insurance, commercial, Medicare, nor Medicaid use your social security number anymore. I told them no, I was not giving them my number. The said "IT WAS OFFICE POLICY" and if I didn't I would have to pay out of pocket of over $400 for just the visit and a special exam I was having. I asked to speak to the office manager who was a very young man, who could not explain their security at MECA and which employees can view such information. Most companies have security levels designated where social security number would be left to management only. There have been breaches at other eye care companies, some on a national level. Only reason they need your social security number is to send you to collections. As I mentioned in the 23 years I've been a patient my account has NEVER had a balance after my insurance paid. So, I called another Ophthalmologist in Hammond, asked if they required my social security number, they said nope, and I've been a patient there since September/October of 2020. This review was prompted by a text message from Munster Eye Care Associates today advising me that I'm overdue for my exam. I love the care I was given by Dr Nguyen since 1997. However since he's given complete autonomy to the top lady that has been with MECA since 1997, her "policies" have driven me away. First with paying your deductible and coinsurance that they determined prior to leaving the office. Okay, fine, I did that. They didn't use the correct network rates for my insurance company (UHC) so they would have to reimburse me for the overage after insurance paid. But, with no social security number being used once law was initiated, they still wanted it. Don't give them yours! read more

My appt was at 9:45 am - I did not get into the exam room until 11:20 am. I was told by the eye dr the next time we will focus on cateract surgery. (well, when I signed up for medicare the woman helping sign up said: if you find a place to have your cateracts done and replaced and they will not accept your insurance|medicare - do not allow them to do your surgery - this is good insurance - you should not have much to pay out of pocket) well I remembered what she said-and glad she did-Munster Eye Care Associates, PC handed me a paper with all of the surgery options on it. all of them said after each explanation and of what type of surgery for the cateract surgery:These fees are not covered by your insurance carrier and are in addition to the surgical fees for the facility and surgeon. *note: if any place tells you this: no matter what kind of medical services you are getting involved with: get out!!! Go somewhere else: ask questions to those whom you know!!!! Needless to say: today is Jan 17, Martin King's Birthday-this place of course is closed! Other places are open for business - Do not go here - your time is not important - not if you come early for your appt and they are 2 or more hours over the time your appt was suppose to be-you are nothing but a pay check to these people!!!!! read more

Called and confirmed the price of my glasses/contacts appointment twice ($10 copay). When checking out, I was asked my card "for a $10 copay" (verbatim). My credit card was taken by the lady. 5 seconds after that, I was told my total is $116. When I asked why, the lady listed numerous small transactions including fitting fees and repeat appointment fees...which the doctor told me I didn't need. This place is bogus with 0 transparency. I could not find any place that would fill my new eyeglass prescription using my current eyeglass frames claiming that my frames were too old. My current frames are in excellent condition, extremely comfortable, classy and they are the BEST eyeglass frames that I have ever owned. It is just unbelievable that any establishment would attempt to force a customer to buy new frames. Nonetheless, I came to Munster Eye Care Associates, PC and they filled my new eye prescription using my current frames without any questions or problems. Well....where do I start? I guess I should start by saying that the only connection I have to this place is the fact that my wife worked there for a short time in 2016. She would continuously come home and tell me how much she hated working there. As much as I'd hate to admit it I would tell her that everybody hates their job.......DEAL WITH IT! Then it got worse. She would come home in tears every day. This concerned me because my wife always had the most positive attitude. It broke my heart seeing the one I love so upset. I eventually told her "Even though we could use the money, if you need to quit I will completely support your decision". Well, she did quit and went back to her old job at a daycare and is much happier. Then, a little while ago she received a message from a former co-worker at Munster Eye Care that concerned me a bit. Hence the reason for this lengthy review. The co-worker mentioned that she had just recently quit because the stress of working there was causing health problems. Weird.......because right around the time that my wife left she ended up in the hospital for digestive issues that doctors ultimately determined were from stress! From what I've been told....and again this is just WHAT I'VE BEEN TOLD....The cause of this stress is caused by one individual.....Laura Barr. Since I'm not an employee at Munster Eye Care I'm not familiar with titles given to employees but, from what I understand, she ranks high on the food chain for the company. From the stories I've heard she uses intimidation and other forms of mental abuse to try to control her subordinates. Apparently the doctors are blind to this as the turnover rate is high but one thing remains constant.......her. I'm not writing this looking for anything. I'm just hoping that by writing this it will help prevent something like this happening to someone else. read more

Dr. Nguyen is amazing. My dad was having some issues after my mom recently passed. They took him in immediately. Dr. Nguyen not only gave him a thorough exam, but he sent him immediately to the ER and even called the hospital to arrange which physicians would see him. Never in all my years have I ever seen a physician be so conscientious and thoughtful about a patient. Most would have just told him to go to the ER. Dr. Nguyen is in a league of his own. Chris Gaston, the optician that helped my sister and I choose/order our glasses was amazing. He was very professional, knowledgeable, and friendly. I came here for an advanced cataract condition and had surgery performed by Dr. Binh in early October. I have very limited and non-functional vision in my left eye due to longstanding retinal disease. I also have a history of right eye retinal disease. I had surgery only on my right eye, and I was high risk for the procedure. There is no benefit to be gained by also removing the cataract from my left eye due to permanent vision impairment resulting from my past retinal disease affecting that eye. I was shocked but should not have been to discover that my "good" right eye vision had deteriorated to 20/400 --- basically, I had advanced to legally blind status without being full aware of it. Conditions had deteriorated significantly for me since early summer this year. The surgery was without anesthetic, uneventful, quick, and painless. I had the patch removed the next day and the result was beyond my highest expectations! I am now 20/15 and not wearing glasses for the first time since my early adolescent years. The staff has been great at the clinic and Dr. Binh has been terrific. I could not possibly be more pleased with the outcome. The new "bionic" lens implant is permanent and I should be able to retain my 20/15 eagle eye vision for the remainder of my life. I am most grateful. read more

I took my 5 yr old son to his first eye appointment. The staff was very knowledgeable about their frames and took extra time to help and get him a frame that fit him perfectly. We went in to do the eye test and the nurse was very patient and very good with him as he's not perfect with knowing his letter but she worked out a way to get an accurate vision test and still made him feel comfortable and make him laugh. We saw dr Kevin bubel and he was very good with him. He was a very good and intelligent dr that makes sure his patients are informed. Thank you to all the staff that helped read more

I've been a patient going there for yearly exams for the last 4 years and I am happy with the care they provide. But you've got to get someone to condescend from their perch long enough to answer the phone and schedule an appointment. Apparently they think you can't get an exam anywhere else and they can park you on hold and just leave you there. So I've scheduled an exam with a different office much closer to the house who is listed as a provider by my insurance company. A good doctor does not always mean good service. Why is it that when I go to see my dentist, I get service on time, but not here? You make appointments several minths in advance, but wait a minimum of 1 hr and I have waited as much as 2 hrs for the doctor to spend 15 min. or less. This place was listed as preferred on my Insurance list. the office is nice and front desk staff and assistants very professional. I was there for an eye exam and prescription for my contacts. during my eye exam I informed Dr. Gebhardt that I have some eye allergy's and would like something for the redness and irritation. She told me should would give me a script for something and I would get it when I check out. upon check out I had no script the receptionist contacted the assistant to inquire and I was informed it would be e-scribed over to the pharmacy. I never gave anyone my pharmacy information so I know that was impossible. when I told the receptionist that, I was told to have a seat and wait for the assistant. 20 minutes later I got tired of waiting and complained to the receptionist and finally the assistant came to get my pharmacy info. I go and pick up from the pharmacy a few days later and the medication that was called in was for itchy eyes. I spoke to the pharmacist and researched the drops and it does nothing for redness or irritated eyes. I called the office and left a message requesting something else be called in and I was told I need to make another appointment. I paid over $100 out of pocket and that does not include what they billed my insurance. I told the Dr. about this issue while I was there but yet I need another visit? this is Ludacris I will be contacting my Insurance to complain I will also be contacting my companies benefit department because they do not deserve my companies business. read more
