My drank!
Courtney B.

I came to Murdoch's over the summer with my GS while waiting to go to our overnight sleepover at the Pyramid. Fun fact: Originally constructed in the late 1800's, Murdoch's was a bathhouse that emerged at the height of Galveston's commercial heyday and during its national prominence as a seaside destination. These bath houses typically catered to regional visitors down for a day trip, and provided bathing suit rentals, changing rooms, freshwater showers, and various amenities to elevate the comfort and convenience of a day at the beach. After the 1900 Storm, Murdoch's was rebuilt in 1901, then demolished again by a storm in 1909. Then in 1910, it was announced in the "Galveston Daily News' that "Murdoch's would again be rebuilt. The new structure would cost thirty-five thousand dollars to build, and would boast "700 rooms, equipped in the most modern manner, with shower baths and all the customary appurtenances of the up-to-date bathing house." Murdoch's now serves as a place where visitors to the island can purchase branded merchandise, swimsuits, flip-flops, beach towels, tchotchkes, alcoholic beverages and more. During the time spent here with my GS troop, we looked around both sides of the store perusing what the store had to offer as well as purchasing souvenir cups and shirts. This location also has a sitting area where visitors can get a great view of the ocean while sitting in rocking chairs. The service we received was friendly and the staff was helpful regarding the selection of items. Whether you're shopping on the Seawall with beautiful ocean views or in the Strand amidst historic buildings, shopping is always a pleasant way to spend a day in Galveston. #supportlocal

Tons to look at 5.25.22

5.27.22 Recently stayed at the beach house and my daughter wanted to pick up a few souvenirs. I normally don't go to stores like this because we come so often to Galveston. Murdoch's has a lot of stuff. Clothes, tons and tons of tchotchkes, shells, hats and shoes. The prices seem a little higher to me. (Compared to the stores on The Strand) I will say Murdoch's was very clean. They even have a bar to buy a drink and sit outside on the covered porch. The porch was wonderful. The breeze was great!

I have to go with Five big bold stars on this one! One of Galveston's Oldest institutions, it had been turned into a souvenir shop by the time I came along in the 1960s. My parents bought me my first ever souvenir here. It still operates as a souvenir shop after being destroyed and rebuilt after the 1900 hurricane,1909 storm, and 2008 hurricane. Built-in the late 1800s as a seaside bathhouse, resort it rose to prominence during Galveston's heyday. It had 700 rooms and also, catered to people down for a day trip, renting swimsuits, changing booths, and freshwater showers. The original gift shop was named Guyette's! I kinda like that! If you look at my attached photos you can see some of the remaining support from the old place left in the sand. I am glad they choose to rebuild once again and furnish a fantastic shopping experience here for kids and adults alike. They added a porch along the back where you can buy and drink a beer, in a big rocker, while daydreaming about what's out in the Gulf of Mexico. Definite Go!!

There is something magical and nostalgic about Murdochs. You can shop for your typical souvenirs at a reasonable price, shop for your beach themed rooms (cute stuff that doesn't scream tourist crap), cool off in the A/C, or just enjoy a beverage and relax in their rocking chairs overlooking the Gulf. Drinks are reasonably priced as well. I love taking out of town friends here. And they are always shocked at how huge it is.

Murdoch's is always a must no matter how many times I go to Galveston. I love the t-shirts, decor and sitting on the deck with a cold drink. The lady at the drink station is super nice (I'm sorry I don't remember your name) but I feel like the rest of the staff could use a refresher in customer service. Nevertheless, I will always make a stop at Murdoch's!

Murdochs has been around for decades for good reason. They're every tourists dream souvenir shop. Established right on the seawall, they are right across the road from many popular hotels. Inside you'll find tons o sea shells, plushies, boogie boards, hats, and shirts. Kids and parents alike will love browsing and probably leave with more than expected. In the rear you'll find a bar selling frozen drinks and beer bottles. You can enjoy them on the outdoor patio with lounge chairs facing the ocean. It's a great spot to relax, and is free to enter even without having purchased anything. Keep in mind that whatever you do purchase will be heavily price inflated. It's a tourist trap shop, but a fun one.

Plenty of shirts to pick from.

We always love going to Murdochs when we visit Galveston. They have a good amount of souvenirs and other items you may need while on the island. The employees are always nice and helpful. While in Galveston Texas Murdochs is a must visit.

10/17/21 Quality/Quantity - Not a lot of employees. Prices for merchandise seem high, but probably normal for a tourist location like this. Atmosphere - This place is huge with clean bathrooms in the back. They have a small bar and a couple of fridges with beer. Love the chairs overlooking the water, perfect for a beer or two. Lots of souvenirs available for purchase for tourists. Service - Once I approached the employees, they were good. Price - Reasonable, especially for the great location. $5 for only a 12 oz draft beer (I was really hoping for a pint) $10 for 24 oz draft beer ( where is the discount?) Bottle beers start at $3.99. Owner Suggestion - This is a GREAT location, but are you using this space properly? I think with this location you can create an even bigger and better business.

This tourist shopping center is great! It has everything you can imaging as a tourist. The place is clean, bright, and very well organized. The merchandise's quality seems to be pretty good. I saw several glass fish, turtle, everything is so beautiful. Definitely is a popular place for travelers! There is 2 separate boathouse connected, in between it's a deck with a lot of chair that tourist can sit and watch the ocean! It's so beautiful!

My one of my absolute favorite spots in Galvy! In part because it reminds me of when my man and i first started dating, but also largely because they have the best free patio seating with multiple flavors of frozen margaritas at arms reach. They've all the popular beers in their fridges, and well as iced cooler options for beers. They have outdoor patio seating as well as indoor for when it's chilly. The gift shop has everything you may have meant to bring to the beach but had forgotten. Plentiful street parking and beach seating underneath

Best place to enjoy a cool pop and enjoy the ocean sounds in rocking chair over waves

Maybe the best place in Galveston to...... have an ice cold beer in a rocking chair looking out to the Gulf of Mexico *** or for the kiddos *** get a cheap souvenir (pirate hat, shark tooth necklace, shot glass or giant shell). MUDROWS!!!!

Great gift store right on the beach. Plenty of photo ops and a nice porch to sit on with a drink. Lots of sea themed gifts and plenty of quirky items. Every age gifts available. Plenty of home decor as well.

Great porch to sit out back and watch the waves. Grab a beer from inside the massive gift shop and waste some time away.

A cool place to do a little shopping for your A-typical beach items and/or just to grab a drink and chill overlooking the gulf.

Decided to rent electric bikes here after popping into a couple other rental shops on the Seawall…read more They have a display of bikes sitting outside on the curb. I will admit, some of them look a bit tattered but we had a great experience! They have multiple types of bikes: electric, manual, gas. They helped us understand the differences & we picked the Segways which they say are recommended for beginners or anyone a little concerned of safety because the throttle has a very moderated level of acceleration. I haven't ridden a bike in over 20 years and this Segway e-bike was easy breezy. No issues with control, stopping, turn radius, etc. Not sure why this place has such a low rating. The process couldn't be simplier. You go inside, you pick your bike rental, sign the contract, they show you how to operate it & you are on your way. The guy at the desk was chill. He said if we wanted to stay beyond our 2 hours just call him or don't call & we can settle up when we return. We did add an extra hour while we were out because we stopped for lunch. It was September which was low season so no issues going up & down the Seawall. I can only imagine the experience may be different during peak. We also went down to the Strand using 25th street. You can stay on the sidewalk the whole way and it felt very safe. Overall great experience. Highly recommend it when visiting Galveston island. We had a ball!
