This was one cool place to stop and grab a souvenir before heading back home. Its right on the beach along the Seawall and conveniently located across from many of the hotels and Pleasure Pier. We stopped in and couldn't help but grab one or two selected Galveston themed items. They have such a wide assortment of shirts, hats, slippers, picture frames, kids toys, snow globes and even hermit crabs. You name it, Murdoch's probably has it. The store is connected by a small viewing balcony so you get to walk right across from side to side as much as you please without having to go up and down the stairs except when you get there and when you leave. You can sit on the balcony and enjoy the view of the beach and sip on a nice cold drink. Must stop shop. read more

Touristy shop, well im a tourist to texas, walking seawall at 730, perfect pokestop underneath. tried to buy a 6 pack and was "warned" uhh you know it's gonna be 3. something a bottle. ok this is an tourist occasion, than the people at the counter tell me its 24$... still ok? Than they tell me i cant drink it there cause they close soon, the way they said it was rude. way to loose money for your buisness. they could use better customer service. went across the street and got a 6 pack for 14$ to take home read more

Murdoch's is the go-to for summer beach cruising! If you want a strong pina colada that will knock you on your butt but still tastes delicious, this is the place to go! The pina's are only $4 to top that off! The view from the back porch is so relaxing, while you sit in a rocking chair and sip your pina. They also serve snacks, sandwiches, candy, and other alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages there. The view from the back patio is of the ocean view with Pleasure Peir to your right. The front patio has a view of the seawall and beach, so you may watch people cruise by. The souvenirs here are reasonably priced as well. If you're going to take your beach cruiser out this year or just need a relaxing spot to grab a beverage this would be the place! read more

This place has it all when looking for nice beach stuff but their staff are rude and don't try and pay by card if it's under ten dollars. Then degrade you when the only signage is a post it note on the side of the register where no one can see it. Very rude staff push you out of the way when walking through. Never going back. A friend told me about this place and how she always goes here every time she is in Galveston because of the awesome chairs that overlook the water so I actually only came here for that. The store looked pretty awesome and there definitely was tons of stuff to look at/buy but I went straight to the lounge chairs and was impressed to see the bar where you can get a drink and enjoy it on the deck. There's about 10 or so wooden chairs (most of them rock but some don't) on the deck overlooking the sea. It's probably the best view of Galveston and you don't have to wear a swim suit to enjoy it! No one bothers you or makes you feel uncomfortable and you can just sit there for hours relaxing and sipping on your drink. I'll definitely be back next time I'm visiting Galveston! read more

My favorite gift shop in Galveston. No, the items aren't all unique to this store. I am pretty sure you can find most everything in a hotel gift shop. However, what sets Murdoch's far apart is that it is right over the water and it used to be an actual bath house back in the Victorian era of the island. It has been there forever! It was my preferred gift shop when I was a kid myself. The patio/breezeway that connects the two halves of the store is one of my most favorite locations anyplace. Over the water, romantic lights at night, wind blowing in your hair, rocking chairs, cervezas and great company make it a perfect spot to spend some time. Still my favorite gift shop! read more

Never know what the hours are I can never seem to find them. But if I do I will post. Seems like they kind of just close when traffic gets light at night. I have been coming here since I was a kid. Ike destroyed the one I grew up with but the new one is nice. I really like the outdoor patio area. I have walked away with many a hermit crab from here that have lived long, long lives. So keep that in mind if getting one as a pet. Other than that it is a tourist place that has lots of kitschy things, but it is still fun to see if nothing else the crazy things people will sometimes buy. I do wish they carried more local crafts like another reviewer stated, for that would make it so much better. Plus I might be more prone to spend money on something locally made. read more

If I could give this place zero stars I would! I bought a few sun dresses and a beautiful ceramic cup for my mother in law who was in town all the way from Boston. As I was getting my daughters settled in their seats on the Galveston Duck tour boat down the street from Murdoch's, my bag dropped and the ceramic cup was broken. Upon the end of the tour I rushed to exchange the cup and was told I could not. I would have to purchase a new one. What a crock of customer service policy! I used to love this place but now over an $8 cup they wouldn't exchange, they have lost my family and probably friends as customers. So instead of the simplicity of changing out an $8 cup they will have lost the hundreds of dollars over time that I would have come visited, relaxed and purchased over the years when my family and friends are in Galveston. Murdoch's is one of the best establishments in Galveston. It has been around since 1910 and is Galveston's best souvenir shop. It is extremely large and they have items ranging from shot glasses and t-shirts to beach home decorations. One of the best things is to come buy a frozen drink or alcoholic beverage and sit on the patio in the rocking chairs. The view over the water is great and really relaxing. read more

Interesting piece of Galveston history resides on this spot of the seawall: destroyed by 3 hurricanes, Murdoch's was resurrected every time on the existing pilings of the former establishment. I take meditative walks on the beach and almost always stop by Murdoch's to grab a cold drink and sit on one of the rocking chairs on their patio to watch the waves. Very relaxing. The store is huge, with a wide selection of souvenirs, beachwear, beach-themed home accessories, snacks and drinks. The store is well-lit, spacious, with Items arranged neatly on the shelves and racks. Nice place to shop, grab a drink, or enjoy some shade on a really hot day. Store clerks could smile more and greet customers with more enthusiasm, but other than that, Murdoch's is definitely a thumbs up. read more

Best place to buy souvenirs because almost everything they sell has Galveston Island on it. Or Gtown my fav. I've been to lots of sea resorts (not as many as i'd like but more than 5) and the one thing I hate is the souvenirs don't say where they are from. Unless you pay a lot to get it engraved. read more

If you're looking for souveniers, shells, sand dollars, starfish, T-shirts, touristy items - this is THE place to go. Or if you're on the beach and need a towel, drink, snack, sunglasses, floaties, etc. Murdoch's has you covered. Building is directly on the beachside of the Seawall.. and it's HUGE, has a nice deck in the middle connecting both sides of the store where you can chillax and enjoy the view. read more

This was my 2nd time a Murdoch's. I love it here. There is nothing like sitting out here catching the gulf breeze on the patio. The store has a successful small town feel to it. Just good people. The items are trendy to touristy and definitely oceanic. If I had my way, I would be out on the dock every night. read more

If you don't mind paying higher prices for the convenience of being right on the beach then this place is good. If you've made it to the beach and didn't bring everything you need then Murdoch's will have it. From towels, to sand castle tools, shirts, shorts, swimwear, and of course, souveniers. It's right in the middle of the seawall. You can even use their building for shade when you're at the beach. If you're in Galveston it's a must see. read more

The only reason I am giving this place 2 stars is because they have a great selection of curios. Other than that, it's a bust. As a child, I grew up shopping at Murdoch's every time we visited Galveston. I have fond memories of the kind, gentle people who worked there. Unfortunately, that legacy is dead. Those employed at Murdoch's now are apparently ignorant of its glorious past. While shopping, we began a collection of goods that we were purchasing. We asked to leave them at the counter. A very rude, obnoxious man said, "we have baskets for that." We left our goods on the counter and continued shopping. When we were ready to check out, we had to locate someone who had to find the guy to check us out. He very rudely began ringing up our things, never smiled, never said hello, never said kiss my butt, screw you, or anything. We spend over $150 in this shop, and didn't get a thank you. I would recommend they get a taste of humble pie. Maybe they need to revisit the history of this establishment. These people don't deserve any business. They are arrogant, cocky, and rude. I won't be back, and I suggest you find somewhere else to shop. read more

A cool place to do a little shopping for your A-typical beach items and/or just to grab a drink and chill overlooking the gulf. Sure most of their items are your kitschy items geared towards tourist but if you are doing up a room in a beach theme they have it & their prices are real good & as someone who has grabbed his fair share of kitsch items their products are good quality. Mostly though we love to just grab a drink & hang out relaxing. If you're looking for some nice beach themed stuff or just want to either rest or beat the heat this is the place for you. read more

Tourist-trappy type gift shop, which there seem to be too many of in Galveston. That said, it was probably one of the better gift shops of this type--if you're into that sort of thing. It's right on the water, and they have a deck overlooking the water that joins the two halves of this store. This was a nice place to walk and shop while my husband got a pedicure at Hotel Galvez. Typical tourist stuff! I found some cute starfish earrings and a few other nick nacks. The staff were very friendly. It is a large place. It sits right on the ocean off seawall. I found a parking spot really easy. I think that was due to it being a Tuesday afternoon. They serve drinks in the middle of the place on a nice deck that overlooks the ocean. On either side of the drink deck there are souvenir shops. It's the same shop and pretty much the same items on each side. It has a public bathroom, which was nice. I loved that because I needed to use the restroom and didn't have to try and find one! read more
