I've been spending my money buying things I like in the Sporting good department since 2016. I have had exceptional service by guys like Stan. James. Dean. Frank. Dave and Derek. Today I was there looking to get some things that were locked up and asked for help. The guy working looked at me and walked away. He was not helping anyone else. I finally got him to come over and he said he heard me. I asked him why he ignored me since he said he heard me and he said something kinda smart smartassish. I then asked to pay for them and he insisted I go up front. I forgot his name, but won't forget how he treated me. A couple of days ago I was there to pick up an item and he was too busy to ask me if I needed help so I came in a day later when I knew someone would be there to help me. The new guys in Sporting goods are not customer service oriented and possibly not very knowledgeable about firearms. Please find better people like Frank and James. If these yahoos are as good as it gets I will end my ten year streak and shop elsewhere. ​ read more

On the one hand I almost left the store when I entered because crap was piled up around the entrance in such disarray I couldn't imagine finding the gloves and metal polish I wanted to buy. Kind of surprised reading the reviews for this store. I live less than two miles from the Westminster store, so I consider it my private Murdoch's! Since it opened I've never had anything but an amazing experience here. I walk in and I'm greeted with a "hello" and a smile, no matter what time of day, whether I'm in my professional clothes or barn garb. They consistently load my grain and they do it with a smile. Never has anyone been disrespectful of any of my vehicles in the process. I appreciate this store and its staff so much. You're all doing a great job! Thank you. read more

If you have horses or big animals this is your store. If you like friendly helpful staff than this is your store. If your a man than you'll like this store. If your a kid you will like this store. I was looking for jeans that don't make me look like i shit my pants even with a belt. I found several pairs here at really good prices. I go in every once in a while just to kill time cause the staff is so nice and always have good bargains. They also carry our dog food cheaper than what I've been paying for years. Ranchers and Families I have been going to this location for as long as I can remember. I have always thought that the employees were nice enough and courteous to my family and I. I come here every Christmas and buy gifts, I buy things here for my job and my home. Never really had any problems until recently. I went in there on Wednesday evening and I was very disappointed. I have spent many thousands of dollars in this store and can't say that I have ever been given the level of customer service that I deserve, but on this day the 14th of August 2019, it was appalling how lazy and unhelpful the staff was. The person whom I believe was the manager on shift was doing absolutely nothing except standing around chewing her gum. I asked one of the ladies in the clothing department if she could unlock one of the fitting rooms so I could try on some jeans, and my girlfriend asked her if she could help her find some jeans that were the size that I needed. Well the lady I guess showed her one section and then just walked away and quit helping her. She was not busy doing anything else she was just standing around like she was bored. My girlfriend ran around trying to find the pants that I was fitting into in the same size and it was so frustrating because there was one pair of each style that i would like in my size. I had to but five pairs of pants in three different sizes because they did not have but one pair in the size that I needed in every style. So needless to say, after trying on 30 pairs of pants I was a little upset. We then went to the chainsaw department and started looking at parts and such and within minutes I was again frustrated by the fact that nothing had price tags on them or the one on the wall was not the correct tag for that item. We were trying to spend money that we could not even spend because there was nobody to help us and nobody knew anything about the prices for the stuff we needed help for. I was so tired of the ignorance in this store I just had to leave. We went to the register and the manager and the cashier were up there just talking and did not even care that we were standing there. I asked why there were no price tags on the merchandise and the one whom I'm sure was manager on shift just turned her head and said "I don't know". It was so sad to see the amount of carelessness and discontent with their job, especially here at this location. I am writing this because I want it to be known that customer service has reached its all time low. There is no value in the customer anymore and that is not how it used to be. Customers are what make the business continue running and I don't think these three ladies, that were working that night, could care less. I think that they all need to be taught how to smile and be polite and courteous when answering questions. I think that the store needs to have some time spent on making sure the prices are correct and labeled on everything so that people know what they are buying. I bought five pairs of pants and they were all supposed to be under $40, when I got to the register two of the pairs were over $50 and I know that nothing up on that wall in the back has a price tag that is that high. I was too tired to argue with the lady and I just wanted out of this store I wish that this generation cared about being helpful and giving instead of ignorant and self absorbed. All of the thousands of dollars that I have spent in this store may now be coming to an end because the ladies could not even grace us with a smile at the register or show any concern for our questions. I was lied to from the Manager at the gun counter. I told the Manager that I did not want to buy any guns that are displayed guns. He tricked me into buying the displayed Glock 43X. No wonder when I asked him to see the gun so I can verify the serial numbers when I was doing the background check. He did not show the gun to me and said everything should be correct. Anyway, fast forward to today 03/22/2021. I went picked my Glock 43x and sure enough this gun was a display gun because I took the picture on Saturday of this gun after filling out the paper works for the background check. It has the same serial number. What a lying SOB sold me the same gun was on the display. It's my hard earning money, I can buy any products I want and hopefully not being lied to. I will not ever buy any firearms from this place again and will tell all my friends stay clear from this place. read more

I'm so glad I finally stopped in to this location. I had only visited their other location in Salida several years ago. Murdoch's has everything you need for your pets - whether it's a rabbit or a horse. All sorts of feed, toys, and supplies for your furry friend. In addition, they carry an awesome selection of DeWalt tools, individual screws/nuts/bolts (which is fantastic when you don't want to buy a whole box/package), and any supplies you need for trailers. Garden supplies, boots/shoes, and the largest supply of Carhartt clothing I've seen anywhere completes the store. Whether you're a stylin' cowgirl or just an urban backyard junkie, this place has the high quality items you need. read more

The staff and inventory are awesome! I come here a lot because the dewalt selection is second to none and they tend to have good ammo prices. There is one employee named Karen who works the gun counter and is extremely helpful. My buddy and his dad were in need of some accessories for their new gun and we made the detour just so that we could get Karen's opinion on the matter. Anytime I'm in the area I swing by just because the staff is awesome and you don't feel like they're pushing a sale when they help you out. read more

Went in to purchase a firearm. The guy at the desk was very rude. Answering my questions with one word answers. He also followed he did not have the firearm i was looking for in stock and said he would not even order it for me. Its just sad when i do ALOT of shopping here and to get shunned on for no reason because maybe he was having a bad day pr something. My very first job was at the local feed store. True story. It was a few miles from the house, I was 12, and I had to walk down on Friday afternoons. I had to feed the chickens and carry out 50 lb bags of feed and bales of hay. The place was covered in dust and smelled of a barn. The best part was the broken old coke machine- the sodas were 25 cents, but there was one bay that was broken, so I could have as many sodas as I wanted. Murdoch's is not like this at all. It's like a department store at the rodeo. They have animal supplies, sure, but they also have western and outdoor wear, power tools, random ranch supplies, country crafts, candy, toys... The place is insane, with the amount of stock they have. The day I went, they had a parking lot sale, and you could buy a $100 pair of cowboy boots for about $15. Seriously. Unfortunately for me, they only had one pair of size 13's left, and I didn't much care for them. I'll be back, though, I'm sure of it. read more

My family and I have been coming here since the store opened. We have an array of animals, everything from chickens, parrots, dogs, etc., and are able to get their feed and bedding here regularly. I enjoy the sales and selection on the clothing and boots. We've bought well over 10 pair of boots/shoes here for different family members. I am even able to buy my scrub pants here, since I work in a hospital. My only compliant is that if I ever have to try anything on in the dressing rooms, it is hard to get someone. Even with ringing the bell, I have had to go hunt someone down to open a door and then they act put out. So, I have actually not bought stuff if I have to try it on first to avoid the hassle. Other than that, it's a good place to shop. A lot of different items to look at. read more

Its a convenient place to find all you need for your critters! I love perusing the aisles and walking out with more than I need (every darn time). Unfortunately, I've never once been wow-ed by the service, and several times I have been utterly appalled at the treatment I received. The gals up front at check-out are usually kind, but ask any dude for help in the rest of the store and you're going to either be treated like you're an idiot because you're a chick or they're going to act like you are seriously bothering them while they're at work. One time I went in asking for a particular antibiotic and the guy corrected my pronunciation of the product (rudely) after acting seriously perturbed at my interruption in the first place, and then, come to find out, it was the guy who was saying it wrong. Major eye roll over here. Now I go in, get what I know I need, and then leave. No problems. If I need assistance or I have questions, I go somewhere else instead. read more

I would love to be able to afford a pair of cowboy boots or a cute dress but in order to do that, I would have to take on a few extra jobs. This place is amazing! They seem to have a little bit of everything, and everything they carry is good quality. You want Double H, Tony Lama, or Justin boots? They've got em. You need feed for your animals (including dogs and cats)? They've got it. Ammo and hunting equipment? They've got that too! They even have plumbing supplies, snow blowers, saddles, and everything in between. The staff is super friendly and the prices comparable to everyone else. A must see store! read more

Like Melissa said, this place has high quality items. I went in with the feel of a western outfitter's store. Sure they have jeans, boots and hats, but they have so much more. As I walked the aisles I noticed many items that I wanted to buy for camping, fishing and car accessories. Seriously! They have the individual nuts and bolts like an Ace hardware, they have pulleys, tie-downs and major car jacks for the off-roader. They have durable storage equipment from Rubbermaid to plain old burlap depending on what you need. Their selection of Buck knives is awesome! They offer ATV/Motorcycle ramps, ladders, general tools, cleaning equipment and the largest glove collection I have ever seen. They even have a wide selection of horseshoes, so if you're not a westerner, you could put together a horseshoe set for the game in your backyard. The prices are really good for the quality they are offering. Their hours are 8-8 most days, except Sundays where they close early at 6pm. I am definitely coming back to get some backyard, camping, and truck supplies. read more

Update! I received a call from a manager who was extremely nice and apologetic and it actually felt genuine-like he truly cared that I had a bad experience. He assured me the store would follow up on this complaint. I applaud management for going out of their way to call and to value their customer service standards. I love this store! Found a stock tank to use a garden bed here for cheaper than Amazon, also a car load of garden soil for half of the cost at Home Depot, all the staff are extremely helpful, they go above and beyond to help with finding the right items and loading my car. read more

If you are a man that does anything outdoors, you will absolutely love this store! I have purchased everything from bird seed and dog food to a belt, Levi's Jeans, and an ATV trailer from them! They also have the largest selection I have ever seen of Dewalt tools in stock.The best description I could give for this store would be a modern version of an 1860's mercantile store...if they don't have it, you probably don't need it! This was my favorite store to shop at For many of years but just bought a Rototiller from them 2 Days ago and had multiple issues with it within 24 hours of owning it call them let them know what was going on the manager on duty said no problem just bring it in and we will give you a new one brought it in they had no more in stock they said they would have another 1 in stock on Tuesday which is 4 days later I said OK sounds good they said they can refund my money right then Or do an exchange but they would have to jump through a couple hoops to do it without having the new 1 in stock I said no problem just take it now it's in the bed of my truck and we will do a straight up exchange on Tuesday to save them some trouble They were being nice to me so I thought I would be nice back and not caused them extra work just got a call from them saying they can't find a problem Except for he Had issues With the machine at the same time That he just said there was no issues with the machine While his manager was standing right there quincidence no just trying to save his butt even though he knew there was problems with it but He said they are not skilled techs need to send it off I said no because it will take a couple of weeks and need the machine now Which they promise me that day they would do He filled it up with oil dipstick was saying that it was not fool of oil yet oil was pouring out of the air filter on him just like it was on me He said there must be a problem with the dipstick which if you have any common sense there is no possible way a dipstick can miss read as far as my knowledge So he just ran it till oil quit pouring out of the air filter And dipstick reads oil low needs more but he said the problem is fixed no more oil is pouring out of the air filter even though the oil gauge says it is low on oil now And i had other issues with the machine which they basically shrugged off The new manager on duty said I cannot do that even though they promised me that they would get me a new machine on Tuesday so they would do nothing for me Now I have to go pick up the defective machine and eat almost $900 out of my pocket I will never ever use Murdoch's again read more

UPDATE: Tom, the manager of this store reached out to me the day after writing my review to follow up. He took the initiative to research my concerns and address what he could before ever picking up the phone to call me, saving me having to relay the details back to him. That shows me someone who is actually committed to good service. Seems to be that the bad customer service experience I had was due to an employee trying to be helpful outside of their area of expertise without getting someone better suited for the department to help me instead. Since this happened at the end of a busy sale weekend for them and being a former retail store manager myself, I can sympathise and give them the benefit of the doubt. It happens. My experience yesterday was just such a stark contrast to the interaction I witnessed a week or so ago where a patient, knowledgeable gentleman was helping a customer understand the differences between different mower models that I perhaps took the lack of patient, knowledgeable service a bit personally. Tom welcomed me back to the store whenever I could make it in, and seeing as how he managed to call me just as I was commuting home past the store I took him up on his offer. I never even told him the model I was looking at, but he had already taken the initiative to figure it out (correctly, too!) and bag up all the manuals / parts and accessories in addition to walking me through what I can and should expect when purchasing OPE from Murdoch's. We had a good friendly chat about my new house and my needs moving forward and all the while he stayed patient and didn't rush me or treat me like a problem customer who needed to be appeased - just a guy who expects reasonably good service. I appreciated that and it definitely made me feel a lot more comfortable about making purchases here in the future. At the end of the day, I left with the string trimmer I tried to buy yesterday, complete with all the parts, pieces, manuals and accessories and a smile on my face. Had my customer service experience yesterday been like my experience today, Murdoch's would be getting 4 or 5 stars out the gate but as it stands now, at least I will be coming back to give them a chance to earn them instead of writing them off forever as I do with all my other 1-star reviewed business. Knowledgeable customer service is the only way physical retailers can expect to survive and thrive in this landscape of Amazon Prime 2-day shipping and low overhead virtual businesses, I'm glad there are still store managers out there like Tom that understand and appreciate that. Love this place ! Hardly ever walk out without at least one thing! Love the Miss Me Jeans, and the price on the men's Levi's is always amazing! My husband also buys all of his Carhartt work shirts here! My only complaint is I wish they'd have more sales!! Because Sheplers offers a 25% coupon every month, and it doesn't exclude Miss Me Jeans I usually buy them there! 75.00 is better than 100.00! ** Update: I was contacted by Tom, the store manager shortly after messaging them. He was diligent in rectifying what happened at his store, going as far as trying to locate who verbally attacked my daughter so he can ban her from the store saying he doesn't want anyone coming into his store and treating any one of his customers that way. He was genuine and sincere and I truly believe he'll follow through with his intentions. Re-rating this store. Still won't give 5 stars just because of lack of initial reaction from any employee or manager on duty at the time, but definitely deserves a higher rating per my conversation with him.** My pregnant daughter stopped in this place today and took her dogs to get their shots. They're very strong dogs so prior to leaving the store, she took them out to the car on this 70 degree day, cracked the windows and ran back in to get them both new leashes before driving 30 minutes back home. On the way to the leashes she grabbed a bag of pig ears, but before getting to the leashes, she was paged to the front of the store where this woman took it upon herself to belligerently attack my daughter for leaving her dogs in the car. Threatening to call the police and/or breaking her car windows to get the dogs out "because she can legally do that there." Evidently the manager did open up a lane so my daughter could purchase her supplies and quickly exit the store. I get why people would be outraged at someone for leaving dogs in a car for long periods of times on hot days. But this woman clearly overreacted and didn't bother to kindly ask my daughter if she was going to be much longer. Those dogs adore her as much as she adores them and she clearly takes very good care of them. They were certainly NOT in any sort of distress! Aside from opening up a lane so she could get out of there, NO ONE stopped this woman from harassing her! NO ONE aside from a few customers who were disgusted by this woman's reaction did one thing. This store is so cool, I don't live anywhere rural so I don't have a lot of use for a lot of the things they sell in this store. But I still can't help but like all the stuff they have. Unique and unusual items that are one of a kind items. I think somewhere I read or I was told- they only sell things made in America by American companies. I mean, it may or may not be true but they do have very cool and different things for sale. Yes everything, clothing, camping, cooking, and yes chickens. Cute adorable small chicks available in various colors and breeds. They're so cute, you'll heart will melt when you walk by the chicks section. I've been considering transforming my house to bring home some of these cute little birds. read more
