I'm not sure if this is really a "Family" business, but whatever the case, they sent Stan over to help us with our New Years Eve day emergency. The electrical was going crazy, and Stan quickly diagnosed it as a limb on our powerline. He also went beyond the scope by calling PGE for us, and by reconnecting our ground wire outside (which I remember having hit with the lawnmower a year earlier not knowing what on earth it was). He even ran to the hardware store to replace a part. He was compassionate, informative, and showed no sign of wanting to rush off to the next job. I wouldn't recommend working with Murphy. After reaching out to try to get a quote or guidance on how much time I should book, I got a text from someone called Sean who wasn't really helpful in recommending any of the time options on their site, and just pointed me back to it and said "any of these options are great, just book whatever you want for the job." Which, again, I was hoping for guidance on. I only went forward because all of the other electricians recommended me are booked out many weeks and I was hoping to move forward. Before the job, I offered notes on what projects I wanted the electrician (James) to look at, but it was clear that they didn't read those or prepare at all. I booked a half day, but we spent the first 1.5 hours looking at different parts of the house and I was just told everything was too big of a job and not worth doing, including my request to wire a doorbell which the tech told me wasn't worth it and instead recommended I just get a wireless doorbell. They also didn't bring any low-voltage wire to the job, and would have had to go buy some on paid time. Finally, I asked the tech to move an outlet from the top of our fireplace into the wall above. Granted, plaster walls are hard to work with but they made no attempt to cut it clean and left a crooked, jagged void in the wall that I had to re-cut square and will be patching on my own, because they don't patch their work apparently. For this one task - which was sloppily done and has left me with even more work - I was charged almost 2 hours plus parts (what parts? They didn't install anything!) for a total of about $375. They didn't even make any attempt to clean up the job site in the slightest, leaving everything covered in plaster dust. If you're looking for an electrician that will actually take your project seriously, work with you to come up with a plan and take some pride in their results, I would recommend going elsewhere. read more

Wanted to add an electric outlet in two bathrooms. Contacted several companies, but most either never returned the call or were not available for months. Murphy Family Electric has a unique service approach where In lieu of a formal quote process you just book a time frame via online request. The had good availability for my needs. Sean came out and did a great job. Fast and neat. Can't comment on pricing as I never got competitive bid. However you can expect any licensed provider to cost some bucks. Very happy with the work, efficiency & professionalism of Murphy Family Electric. They responded promptly through Yelp...far prompter than any other company. Initially, I was a bit concerned that I wasn't able to speak with someone personally over the phone, as I was unsure if we would need a half or full day. However, they were very patient offering consult through texts, assuring me that if we booked for a day, but only used half, the technician would be able to downgrade without penalty. Sure enough, the tech, Neko, finished in 3hrs, what other companies had advised would take up to 2 workers and at least most of the day. We appreciate the great job Neko did, while still making sure to be transparent, professional & personable throughout. Safe to say Murphy found themselves loyal customers for today on! read more

I made an appointment and they cancelled. I then made another appointment and they didn't even call when they didn't show up. There's no one to talk to when this happens because it's just a website to make an appointment. I've never had this happen and it was unprofessional to not communicate and make me take time out to wait when they didn't show up 2 times. They did a great job installing an EV charger in our garage under the panel. The only thing I would recommend is having the pricing be all inclusive so it's easy to see exactly what you're going to pay, rather than separately attaching fees in the print below. Overall was about what I'd expect cost wise, I just prefer to see it all up front. The electrician was very friendly too. read more

I had a very good experience with Murphy Family Electric today. The technician Nico stayed in touch even before arriving to our home. He showed up right on time (even a little early) and switched out and repaired two tap switches for us. It was slightly complicated, but he worked it out and explained everything along the way as well. It was nice to get a little tutorial from him while he worked! I would strongly recommend Murphy and Nico in particular for electrical repair. By the way, Nico also took the time to explain all facets of the bill just to make sure there was a good understanding of the costs involved. I really appreciated that. read more

We recently moved to the area and I was nervous about hiring an electrician I'd never used before. I've had some bad experiences in the past. This was by far one of my best experiences! Neko was awesome and worked quickly and diligently. He did great work and made fast time of it. I had five lights installed plus three dimmer switches. My only issue was that my two pendant lights were installed in opposite directions. It's only noticeable at the top near the ceiling, so it doesn't bother me too much. Most people probably wouldn't notice, but I'm an interior designer, so I notice things like that. One tip, don't worry about them cleaning up after themselves. You're paying them by the hour...do the grunt work yourself! I will definitely be using them in the future, and recommending them to my friends and clients. read more

I had so many different communications with the company - Yelp, email, text and couldn't get one person to talk to me on the phone. They kept sending me to their website. After giving them copious amounts of information about my needs and booking online they cancelled days before due to it being "unsafe" to use a 30 foot ladder to get into my attic (which I mentioned needing in EVERY communication). It was super easy to schedule this appointment, the services were all well explained, so it was easy to choose the service I needed. I had an appointment scheduled and Sean called me at 11 to see if I was around for an 11:30 appointment (My appointment was set for 1:30), rock on, I was! I wanted to surprise my husband and get a Level 2 car charger for our electric vehicle as a gift. I have ZERO understanding of anything electric, Sean came to my home and was super helpful- I didn't even know where I should have the thing placed! He walked me through some of the pieces, provided suggestions and installed that bad boy super fast. I may have missed the fine print, because I have a few large holes I need to patch up (Sean told me this before he drilled) around the installation site- it shouldn't be too difficult. Shawn from Murphy Family Electric demonstrates service and professionalism that are exceptional. We had an emergent circuit breaker issue. After about a day and a half of temporary fixes and failed brainstorm remediation we decided to call a licensed electrician. Contacted Shawn via apps about 6:30 PM and booked his first available appointment at 3 PM the next day. Within 30 minutes we were having a phone conversation and you agreed to come out by 8 PM the same evening to help us out. He arrived on time, I was personable and honed right in on the issues. Not only remediated the problem circuit's issues and potential future disaster but proactively swapped out a few other breakers tightened a few wires and did a nice refresh of the entire panel, all for the initially quoted price. I will definitely utilize Shawn again and will schedule him for a review of the entire home soon for possibly upgrade or overhaul of the entire system. read more
