This tiny place feeds my nerd itch. I have been there once before and enjoyed it and this time didn't disappoint either. Everything is organized but spread throughout the store. I enjoy that as it gets me to look at things I normally may not. They have a great selection of physical media and records. They even have a few comics and board games. I will say the prices are a little high but this is a physical location in a beautiful neighborhood by the beach so I am not complaining. The owner (I assume) was really cool on checkout, even chatted me up a little. I will definitely go here again. read more

This record shop (and more) is very well-organized, funky, and mostly, just plain fun. Someone put a lot of time, effort, and love into this store. The vinyl selection is excellent. There are also used cds, very well-priced at $5 each. Comic books, Mad magazines, posters, and real Dodgers stadium seats are also here (I'm fairly positive you can't buy the stadium seats, but you can sit in them, if you'd like). I could have spent hours here. There will be music playing on the stereo during your visit and a lot of interesting things to browse, if you are a music lover. It is a delightful shop. read more

First time visiting this store and I felt like a kid in a candy shop. I was there for some wall art and loved a lot of the pieces, but a little out of my price range. I was really impressed by the variety of music selection at this store. Many different genres of music and all really well organized. Absurd pricing! They have brand new records priced at $45-75 that you can find anywhere for $20-$30 and their used selection, a number of records I've seen at other local shops for $15-$20 in excellent condition and this place is trying to sell them for $75-$200. Just insane. read more

As I was at the avocado festival I walked into the vinyl store to see what I could possibly find. Upon entering, crates of vinyl with sections of each artist in different genres went throughout the store. Anyone you can think of this store prolly has, you just gotta dig a little. However every artist I looked at, new and older all started around $35 and just went up from there. IMO most of the newer artist vinyls were over retail value. And then I found the King.. ELVIS all his vinyls were pretty pricy but that $125 I was like really that much.. and there was a duplicate in that stack of the same vinyl priced at $75. So that just shows me this place is over priced. But if you're a die hard collector price doesn't matter. Vinyls were all in new/great condition. They also carried CDs, DVDs, some magazines and a few other items, I didn't catch the price on those as I wasn't in there very long. read more

Super nice owner great selection of vinyls and great cd selection plenty to look at in the store

Excellent record store! Owners are super cool and the selection was endless. Prices are on the low side- I know because I go to many record stores. I'm surprised to find a store with its finger on the pulse in this cute little beach town. If you are a music nerd, be prepared to get yelled at by your family for missing the beach picnic. I had to be somewhere so I only bought 2 records, one for $12, and one for $16. The 12 was used and looks never played it is in perfect condition, the 16 is new and sealed. Wow too fun. Will be back and will make sure I have 3 hours to kill and some money allocated to a few records. They have cassettes, stickers, and probably more that I didn't get a chance to go through but I didn't even know the shop was there on the main drag in Carp. As the former governor used to say, "I'll be back"! read more

Murphy's is one of the best record stores in Southern California. The selection is great. I popped in for vinyl, but there's also a wide array of books, comics, cds, and movies. And the shop is clearly a work of love. It's like an immersive art installation dedicated to music and film. Yeah, I've found vinyl in shops for less, but I've also been disappointed in the quality of the record when I got them home. That's not the case here. I'm listening to flawless cuts on well-card for records. If you do stop in, set time aside to chat with the guy behind the counter. He's like a walking, talking encyclopedia of all things recorded (or Wikipedia for you younger cats). Thanks Murphy's. Love my records. Can't wait to pay you another visit. read more

Very organized, easy to find by alphabetical name, each vinyl is individually wrapped, friendly owners, and I found fair prices on most vintage records. They will even take out the record, show you the quality and play it for you. Make sure you take your time here because they also sell rare CDs, videos, posters, etc! read more

Recently took a road trip up the coast and decided to hit up some record shops I'd never been to. First off, it's extremely clean, organized and inviting. Then I made the mistake of flipping through the bins.... Boy oh boy, what a disappointment. Note to self: when you see records in crystal clear resealable sleeves, avoid like the plague! Unbelievably overpriced!! I really like to support small business but when I feel like they are ripping off their customers it irks me tremendously. If you want to find a decent selection at realistic prices, you won't find it here. read more

First thing I will say is this place is super well setup and very clean. I found the selection to be amazing and the prices seemed very fair. I really think I need to come back multiple time to really take everything in and truly appreciate it, but I will be back on my next trip up the coast for sure. This place looks fantastic! What a great job they did turning this into a vinyl shrine! It's a bit snug inside, but they've put a cluster of small rooms to good use, each of the major genres pretty much getting its own room. The selection is solid. The prices are higher than I would prefer to pay, but that's because I'm a bit older and am used paying little more than a couple bucks a pop. The average price here is $15 to $30, which is not unusual for quality stuff these days. The dude behind the counter chatted congenially with me about music in general. He seems like a nice guy with a wealth of knowledge to impart if his customers need it. Two thumbs up all around!! read more

I just love this place, Keith, the owner, is awesome! Every year after my annual camping trip I stop at the Vinyl Shack and buy an album. Last year I got Wu-Tang Greatest Hits and this year the LaLa Land Soundtrack, the record quality has been fantastic! This year I took my Dad with me and really enjoyed just hanging out and chatting it up with Keith. Love this store, it's a must stop if you love vinyls, good conversation and great selections of music both old and new. I played my LaLa Land record when I got home and it was truly meant to be played on my little old player, the music had me dancing all over my house. read more

From an amazing selection of Elvis records to you name it. Fantastic selection of posters and other Summer of Love items. This place is a total trip man. Most product is in excellent condition, and well kept. Some new naturally. The shop has everything in an easy to find order. Real nice vibe, chill out and check out any cool vinyl you may be after. Store has a great layout and a lot of inventory. Majority of the vinyl there is either new or in great shape, but everything is very expensive. Didn't see a single record for less than $10 while in there. Murphy's vinyl shack is an all around amazement. The manager was really helpful and there to help. There were so many different varieties that were fully stocked. He had soulful music like Aretha Franklin to rock 'n' roll like Kiss. Everything was well organized and easy to access. He had so many records that were in amazing condition. He had really rare albums like Beach Boys pet noises for a reasonable price. It was well worth the drive. He was also so generous to let us leave with a record holding shirt. And on top of all of that he had comics and DVDs is well. I will be a customer for life. read more
