Salzer's is definitely one of the best record shops I have been to in a minute. This place is massive with records organized very nicely by genre and artists. Prices are also fair and the staff are friendly and welcoming. Wifey and I spent a good couple hours crate digging and exploring their selection. I ended up copping some niche vinyls that I haven't seen elsewhere like Galdive, Nala Sinephro, and BADBADNOTGOOD. How do you not recommend a business that has been a staple in the community longer than I've lived here? Growing up, music was my life. All my money was spent on vinyl and concert tickets. That's what I lived for. Salzer's always was THE place and it still is. They are the only one to survive. Every other record store is long gone. A distant memory. You don't last as long as they have unless you're doing something right. They do it right. Top to bottom. Any time family or friends would come to town, they always wanted to go to Salazar's. I've spent countless hours flipping through all their albums. If you had the time, you could find some gems. Always more than helpful. Knowledge that's unmatched. Such a fun store! I have lived in Ventura for almost two years now and finally went to Salzer's Records!! I had expectations of Hot Topic mixed with Spencer's...but this store is much better than that idea. They have everything from an adult toy store section, to Buddha items and decor, to music gear, as well as books, stickers, etc. I spent time looking at so many things...I bought a few Buddha decor pieces and something from the adult toy store (in my Borat voice -"very nice!!"). Salzer's Records is all around a FANTASTIC store. Whether, you're looking for records, cool apparel, jewelry, or even a gift for yourself or a friend, they have it all. The store is big and has a ton of cool merchandise so be prepared to give yourself time to browse. My daughter and I were immediately welcomed by a gentleman by the name of Brandon when we walked into the store. He overheard us asking about T-shirts and quickly showed us some shirts in the corner that we hadn't seen. We also found some cool jewelry upstairs that my daughter absolutely loved. A gentleman by the name of Frank was also extremely helpful and friendly. This is definitely our family's favorite place to shop. They seriously have something for all ages and don't get me started on their record collection. If you haven't been to Salzer's you are seriously missing out!!! HUGE store. I didn't expect it to be so big and have so many different products available (thought it was just records). The bottom floor is a huge selection of vinyl, CDs, stickers, patches, books, record players, speakers, and even more gifts. I could be in here for an entire day looking through the stacks and drawers of vinyl. Upstairs is a lot of band and humor tees, clothing, nic nacs, gifts, paraphernalia, jewelry, etc. I wanted to check out the vinyl but found that this is also a PERFECT place to get gifts. My daughter was in there tonight with her friend. She was accused of stealing they checked her pockets and clothes the girls patted her down. She assured everyone that she did not take anything but yet she kept setting off the sensor. They told her she was not welcome and to hand over what she stole. They let her go but when she got home she had a sensor stuck to her shoe. They didn't take into consideration that a sensor could get stuck! We are beyond upset about how she was treated when it wasn't her fault we will never be in there again. read more

This is an important place to me. It is a family owned record store that has lots of very cool pop culture, collectibles. Their used vinyl is very well priced and is in great condition. They're helpful with special orders and on the rare occasion something goes wrong, they rectify it for you. As far as people complaining about politics, I don't see them as political. They have stuff that is funny and they follow the guidelines as mandated to all of us. A place like this is a treasure, deserves our support, and I hope it outlives me. Long Live Salzers! read more

purchased $200 worth of items last week and I want to return $50 of those items. I visited the store today and was told by a staff member, there is no cash returns allowed only exchanges and store credit. I said I didn't pay in cash I used a credit card. He didn't even look up at us, he just continued scanning the items and passively pointed to a chalkboard signed that outlined the return policy. Nowhere on the sign says exchange only or no refunds allowed. I voiced that and he said well that's just the policy...The receipt also doesn't state anything about no refunds allowed. read more

If they don't have a movie or cd they can place an order and they have new and used movies and cds. They can help you look for a movie or cd if it's not to busy. They have kept up on offering what is in demand at competitive prices and employ people who know how to converse with you about what you want. They even let you order things they don't have. Haven't visited Jim Salzer's Music Emporium... glad I did....brought back a rush of memories from the 60's on.... Attended so many of his concerts back in the 1960's....driving down from Pismo Beach while I was in High School. Now I have moved back to the Central Coast after 40 years in Hermosa Beach. Definitely will be stopping every time I go back to the South Bay on business. It is so exhilarating to see the vast array of vinyl, CD's including so many Box Sets, the music, and the calming effect of the incense burning upstairs. What an experience. Salzer's is such a cool place. It's like an indie Tower Records. The focus is on new vinyl and CDs, though I have found some gems in the used section as well. Prices are competitive and their selection is excellent. I've done special orders a few times and have always been pleased with the result. Yes, you have to wear a mask, because it's been mandated. If you can't handle that it's your problem. Nothing to do with Salzer's or their patient, helpful employees who don't deserve to take crap from people more concerned with identity politics than self-respect and human dignity. read more

I don't live in the area, so I can't stop by Salzer's too often. But we make a short detour on the way back from downtown Ventura to see what's new. It's a tad complicated to get to it, but you learn it! The store is big, a great resource for the area, they have a decent selection - CD-s, vinyl, DVD-s, the prices are a tad higher, but it's a nice resource. You can trade in your DVD-s, CD-s, etc, but call ahead, they have set hours for that. They also have other merch: t-shorts, socks, wallets, etc. So you might be able to find a cool gift in here. Just waited in line for20 minutes, completely understandable given the holidays and COVID. I was willing to wait because I like this store. However, once it was my turn to go in, the gentleman asked if I was going to shop on the second floor, i said yes, he acknowledged my answer and let me in. I browsed through the records for a few minutes before heading upstairs, but I was stopped by an employee at the stairs and she told me if i had shopped downstairs i needed to go back outside and wait in line AGAIN if I wanted to shop upstairs. This was very frustrating because I came to the store for a gift and knew I'd find one ... ON THE SECOND FLOOR. This all could have been avoided if the gentleman at the door simply told me I needed to go straight up stairs. But this was not communicated to me, and I was not about to go wait in line again. Salzer's is fun to look at, but I hardly ever leave with anything since it's priced higher than other shops, AND priced higher than many online shops (even considering the cost of shipping). I often come here to look at records and while in the store find them cheaper on eBay and Discogs. In a world of eBay bucks and Discogs free shipping it's hard to pay double for records (used/new). Come check it out, judge for yourself, but for me I just never get excited about coming since they are just pricing records too high (discount records included) and I'd rather drive elsewhere. read more
