Some negative reviews on here but I had a good experience. I bought a house with a fireplace insert and had never thought about it much but finally decided to have it inspected and cleaned because I started using it more often. Derrick immediately found a safety issue as no gas shut-off valve had ever been installed on it. I made a future appointment to install the valve and clean the fireplace. Derrick returned and performed the tasks to my satisfaction. I inquired about a new metal surround for the insert because the current one was make-shift and unattractive. Henry came out the same day and suggested that he could remake the current one into something better and less costly. And he did. I love the fireplace now, it works great, it is safe, and good as new. Derrick and Henry were both friendly, efficient, were patient with me, and took good care of my floors while performing the work. read more

Deserves no stars. Called in for fireplace chimney sweep. Quoted me about $340. Told them go ahead and clean it. They never cleaned it. Days later get a $7300 bid to rebuild the fireplace. Called another and both men said fireplace was in good shape just needed cleaning and new cement cap and hood. Spent less than 1/7 Murphys bid to get work done inc cleaning. Got a $250 "inspection fee" bill from Murphys. Told them I never asked for this or was told about it. They were nasty said they would turn bill over to collection agency. Place wants to soak you for unneeded repairs. Stay away. Read other reviews- I am not the first one they tried to hose. read more

We just had Murphy's Fireplaces do a job for us and we give them our highest recommendation! We have a two story house with two very tall chimneys. There had been a chronic problem with water coming into the top of one and leaking down over our pellet stove below. It was a lot of water! The Murphy's team set up scaffolding for safety, completely inspected the chimneys and flashing, had custom chimney caps made that fit perfectly, and did a great job installing them. Not only does that solve our water problem once and for all, but the caps are absolutely gorgeous. They are black stainless steel with ridged top and sides, super sturdy, blend with other metal accents on the house, and perfectly match the roof lines. Our house was just a wreck when we bought it and we have worked our tails off to get it back to its original beauty. These chimney caps are one of the final touches to pull it all together. I made an appointment for Murphy's techs to clean my wood burning fireplace, which has begun smoking. There were to be here at 9:30. About that time, their van went by. My sis, who was here, said they were here. I said, "I saw them. Wonder where they went." They didn't slow down, didn't come back. Can they not read house numbers? Did they not have phones to call or text, my address on a service request, any sense? I got my phone to call after a half hour. Maybe they got lost? Coffee? Van accident? I saw that the company had called & left a message: "my techs are trying to do a service call." Well, they weren't trying very hard, as they drove right past my house without slowing down. So, I called Murphy's. But apparently, they don't answer the phone because they "have a high volume of calls at this time." And apparently all times. And no wonder they have a high number of calls! The message ended up suggesting that the best way to contact them was by email at sales@--- some company I'd never heard of & couldn't clearly understand on the message left by Murphy's. I finally found it --Mongoose Metals-- and sent an email, as suggested. After all, she checks them several times a day, she said. Now it's three hours past the appointed time. No one has contacted me. They have not come back. Now I don't want them to. read more

Hired them for 3 things with my wood-stove insert: (1) cleaning, (2) replacement of a dislodged front Y baffle, and (3) inspection. I did not check reviews first. The cleaning was great - did a thorough job at a cheap price and had an early appointment time. So, if that's all you need, maybe call them. The repair - fail. The VERY FIRST TIME I went to use the wood stove afterwards, the front Y baffle came down on my knuckles - this is a very heavy, sharp piece of steel. I jerked back from the pain and hit my face on the top of the stove. So, I went to my office job the next day looking like I had been in a bar fight (and lost). The inspection - they said the whole chimney needed rebuilding for about $6500. Because of how badly they messed up the baffle repair and finally seeing their reviews, I did not want them back. I called someone else. According to this new guy (who actually fixed the baffle) the chimney needs some minor repairs, cleaning and waterproofing, but its about $1000 worth of work - at the most and it will last 20+ years. I bought a Groupon for $174 that is supposed to cover a fireplace inspection with video scan and cleaning. I called and scheduled the appointment which was easy and they went around my schedule well my appointment was for 3:30pm. Finally the day of the inspection I get a call at 1:10 from A man named Paul saying they are actually early and wondering if this time is ok to come. I said yes I am home. About 10 minutes later Paul shows up. This wasn't a problem for me. Now here is where the problems start. He walks in doesn't greet me nicely at all, no smile just comes in and his phone rings so he answers it. Talks for a few minutes. Then he is texting right after the call. I asked how all this works and he said he has 2 men that will go on the roof to look into the chimney, it should only take about 10 minutes. He then went outside. About 10 minutes late he came back in and told me it's not dirty, and it doesn't need to be cleaned. I didn't get a video or anything else that came with the inspection. I told him smoke comes into my home when we start a fire he told me we need a smoke shield they can install. I asked do they sell those at Home Depot or something. He said no only fireplace inspection places sell them and he quoted me $200. I looked it up online and found them for $50 at Home Depot... then he quoted me on a bunch of random stuff like moss and water growing in the top of the fireplace I asked him how that is even possible where is all the water? He went around my question a few times and never gave me an answer. He quoted me on a 6 different things we need replaced. It ended up being around $3,000 for everything. I looked a lot of it up online and it was much less. He only charged me for an inspection which is why I gave this company 2 stars. I feel like the customer service could have been a lot better. Maybe a smile, a hello and also putting phone on silent until your out of the appointment. None of my questions were answered, I got quoted for a bunch of stuff I don't understand at all. The handwriting on the quote is so bad I have no idea what most of it says. I honestly will be working on getting all my money back. I don't want the credit and I don't want them to come back. Saw their van driving down the road and took a picture. That's how all good stories start. Actually called hem for a quote and speedy but fair. Went with s regency insert. Although communication was spotty both Henry and Travis were very efficient with the install and chimney repairs. Henry pointed out that the front top of the onset was scuffed. They called in and got a replacement. Unfortunately for Travis who returned the following week with the replacement that part was also damaged. Travis called all over town for a replacement after regency told him to just touch up paint. Seriously??? How much did we pay for this thing!!! Lucky for us Travis found a part and made sure it wasn't damaged and installed. The 4 stars was because we had to call to follow up on scheduling since didn't get email of confirmation. Would recommend murphys but steer clear of regency products. If they aren't willing to replace damaged parts it's not worth spending the extra money. Also regency doesn't mention or show in any of their brochures the eyesore digital catalytic combustor monitor. It's attached to the side of the insert and has a purpose but they need to let consumers know that this ugly thermostat exists. We were blindsided when it was installed (no fault of murphys) and if you don't have it installed it may null and void warranty. Yes I'll post bad review for regency in as many places as I can find. What a great place to shop for a stove. Great price, and throughly wonderful people to deal with. The Office staff were very nice, friendly and very helpful. When I picked up my pellet stove- the guys in the back were very helpful. The price was truly excellent - they beat every other dealer that I priced stoves with. Murphy's Fireplace and Stove provided a verbal quote to my realtor to clean, inspect, and certify my wood stove for $195. After they "completed the job," Murphy's Fireplace and Stove had me pay $150 over the phone before emailing the service report, which stated "Stove is not EPA compliant must be removed & replaced with a certified stove." I knew the wood stove was compliant prior to this as I had seen the certification tag on the wood stove myself. When my realtor provided proof to Murphy's Fireplace and Stove, with an email from the DEQ, that said the wood stove was indeed certified, Murphy's Fireplace and Stove said they would return to clean the wood stove for an additional $30, which was a new total cost of $225. When my realtor asked why it would cost more than the original bid price of $195, Murphy's Fireplace and Stove said the $195 bid was for a fireplace insert. I told my realtor I was only prepared to pay the original bid of $195. When my realtor called Murphy's Fireplace and Stove back to relay my message, she was then told that Murphy's Fireplace and Stove did not have any bids for $195 for any of their services and would not have told my realtor $195 from the start. Between the 2 phone calls that my realtor made to Murphy's Fireplace and Stove, they lied to her regarding the original bid. At that point, I no longer wanted to continue with services from Murphy's Fireplace and Stove. They had already said my wood stove was not certified, when it was, and they should have known that, they are the professionals. And then they wanted more money to do the work that was already bid for and agreed upon. Murphy's Fireplace and Stove did not perform the services that they promised me but instead, sold me a worthless and incorrect inspection report for $150. read more

Back in 2011 I called this guy to inspect three chimneys (fireplace, wood stove, oil furnace vent), clean them if necessary, and provide an estimate for repairs if necessary. At the time the business had a slightly different name - you can check older reviews at "Murphy's Chimney and Fireplace Service". The guy showed up an hour before his appointment (when I wasn't there), went up on the roof, and damaged the seals around the chimney caps. When I got there the guy gave me a huge song and dance about how all the chimneys had to be replaced and were dangerous. I know he was full of shit (eg: it doesn't get 1200 anything like degrees inside of a furnace flue!) He was in an awful hurry to get out of there and became pretty close to belligerent when I told him that a) I was only going to pay the agreed on price (a $99.00 special that included chimney inspection and one cleaning) and b) I wasn't going to pay him anything until he got his ladder back out and showed me what needed to be done - since he was all packed up when I arrived on time for the appointment. ABSOLUTELY avoid this guy. * After posting posting this I (completely by accident)) located the guy who had annually cared for the chimneys for the past 23 years - and continues to do so today. He had rebuilt all three above the roof line around a decade ago, and they are in excellent condition. Make sure to read the blocked reviews. read more

I had Murphy's out to bid refacing a fireplace and chimney repair. The estimator mentioned that they do gutters as well. He supposedly matched a competitors bid - he over looked the shop entirely (although it had been discussed the competitor included the shop gutters.) His estimate on the fireplace and chimney was for 4 days of labor - it took his crew 2.5 days but I had no qualms paying as originally bid, they made a killing off the job since the estimator though it would be four days and it was only 2.5 days of labor. They did not want to make it right (by actually matching the competitors bid for the gutters or even offering a discount on the shop gutters.) They bid it out at full price - their bid would have been nearly $500 MORE than the other gutter company! After NUMEROUS e-mails and a phone call to their office - WEEKS later, I finally received a response (sorry, we have been busy due to the holidays) and "the estimator only bid for the house." I will never use Murphy's Fireplace & Stove for future renovations. I will NEVER hire Murphy's for future renovations for any of the services they provide. read more

In September '17, my fireplace and chimney needed major work. Murphy's did a great job. From day one meeting with the owner and then, all the contact with the office personnel and all the technicians... EVERY ONE of them exemplified customer service. Their knowledge and willingness to share that knowledge is impeccable. I highly recommend Murphy's, I am one very, very happy customer and plan on singing their praises at every opportunity.
