When you call to schedule an appointment, the receptionist will withhold the fact the service fee is $249, whether or not they do anything. Their service fees are almost double what other shops in the area are. HomeFire Stove charges $119 for a service call. Disappointed in ABB as I've used them for several years on various properties. Lack of communication, lack of transparency and borderline price gouging based on their competitors. After a discussion with the owner, he threatened to send the bill to collections if it wasn't paid in full. read more

ABB goes above and beyond!! I had contacted them earlier in the month, with a vague idea of dates. Long story short, with last minute needs and a full schedule, they "fit me in" within a few hours. I know they were busy, I was forewarned, but when I asked for exceptional service...I was floored when I got better than. I would have been happy with a 2-3 day time window when I was given longer thank a week due to the unique circumstance (state fair) but they went over and did what I needed on what I am sure was their lunch hour. And Stephanie left her desk to lend a hand as it was a 2 person job. Great value - EVEN BETTER SERVICE! Stephanie - you and your team are awesome beyond words. ABB Stoves came out to do a "spring cleaning special" in April of 2014 on our wood stove. In October we started using the stove again and something was wrong. We had smoke whenever we opened the door. Called them and they send out their most inexperienced stove repair man. He claimed that we must have installed new windows because the stove wasn't drafting (we had not). After one hour we sent him away and the stove was no better. After much research and despair I stuck my hand up the pipe and pulled out a large piece of insulation that had been wedged in the pipe since the failed cleaning. They scheduled my install earlier than they normally would have to get the stove in, and let me know ahead of time a trim piece was running behind schedule. This gas fireplace business gets a no-brainer 5-star and two enthusiastic thumbs up rating from me. My wife and I purchased a house with two old non-functioning gas fireplaces. I found ABB Stoves Hearth & Home online through Home Advisor, and they responded within hours of my inquiry. The owner came out to my home for a free evaluation and to make recommendations. We ended up buying two new Peterson Radiant log sets, in two different sizes, the larger one manual, and the smaller one for the bedroom remote controlled. The installation costs were extremely reasonable, and the owner came out and replaced a faulty valve under the house, removed an old brass insert, and did the whole install in one afternoon. He set the logs and embers up with care and patience, and then was adamant about making sure I was happy with how the fires looked. The prices they charged were EXTREMELY reasonable and competitive (AND THERE WERE NO SURPRISES, THEY TOLD US EXACTLY WHAT IT WOULD COST, AND THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT IT COST). The owner and his in-store staff (in person and over the phone) were outstanding. These people TRULY cared that we were getting what we wanted, and that it ended up looking and functioning the way we wanted. He had to pull out a chimney lining installed for the gas insert, it was raining heavily, and he wasn't able to get up on my steep roof to pull it out that afternoon. He came back and did it few days later when the rain had stopped and the roof was drier. They didn't charge me a penny more. I also had many bonehead questions about the products and their operation, and he answered them patiently and completely. ABB Stoves Hearth & Home is a class act from start to finish. We went into the Keizer store to see it after we had already agreed to purchase, and we liked it so much more than the "other" fireplace store in town. It was kind of like a work shop as opposed to a gleaming showroom, but it was inviting, well stocked, and the staff was extremely friendly (and knowledgeable). We had a simply outstanding and satisfying experience with ABB Stoves Hearth & Home. And I'll say it again. These folks are a class act from start to finish!!! Shop here if you want to get ripped off. Three months ago, Mel's received payment of $500 for an outdoor fire pan. After all of this time, they have refused to deliver the goods we've paid for. Excuses on their end abound: they claim they forgot the order, that the fire pan was defective and had to be returned to China, that they never received payment (our bank account records show this to be completely false), that they forgot to call us, that they cannot issue a refund check, that they thought we had already picked it up, that they aren't sure who we are, et cetera ad nauseum. Every time we stop in the store or call them, they offer a new excuse. To make matters worse, this is the second time they've worked over my family...and I'd have to admit we're a relatively small sample. I would discourage anyone I ever met from attempting to do business with these people. They have been reported to the Better Business Bureau repeatedly. I will never deal with ABB Stoves in West Salem again. I paid $563 and still don't have a working stove. We were never given an estimate, they couldn't provide replaced parts, they put a circut board on our pellet stove that was made for another stove. They started working on my stove on October 10th, three months and still no heat. I have contacted the Consumer Protection department of the Department of Justice. Their answer was "Your file was closed as Abb Stoves responded to the complaint and we have no other complaints against them." So basically since they "said" they took care of it, no further action will be taken. read more

Had a Pellet stove installed into an old for race opening in October 2011. Amazing experience with the sale and install. Fall 2014 our ignighter went out from use, not due to product. We constantly use our stove from Oct they April 12-14 hours a day. When I called, Jerry did some research and had a tech out to us within a day. Problem fixed! Today same issue with the ignighter. Use not product. Was trouble shooting with Nick over the phone and when he extinguished those, he told me he would be to my house in 15 min. I have recommended ABB to many friends and family and those who have gone to them have all said, service is great. Its not always same day, but they are usually fast! I will keep going back because I never feel like just another customer when I go to the shop! read more

Very poor customer service. Technician took my control board, offered to fix it and then let days go by with it sitting at the shop. After several phone calls I finally had to retrieve the board and fix it myself. This place is not going to survive if they don't focus more on customer service. 5 year old pellet stove did not work when we purchased new home. Called ABB and they sent someone out last week who said it was the igniter. Ordered the igniter and they installed yesterday. We are going through a very cold and I have an elderly lady downstairs and we need it badly. Today I called and say the pellet stove will not ignite and I would like someone to come back out ASAP please. I agree with the other bad reviews, very poor customer service! I came to ABB Stoves, recommended by a friend, for professional help installing a fire stove. I was told to tear out almost all of what I had, by Merle, which was completely wrong, and then asked for $700 additional dollars, by Nick, for a pellet stove, that I did not want in the first place, because that was my only option after following ABB Stoves advice. So, here I am 5 steps backwards from when I contacted ABB Stoves and not getting any help from ABB, after being promised that ABB would make it right, by Nick. My only option now, is to let everyone that will listen not to get taken by ABB Stoves. read more

Ripoff! We bought a fireplace pellet insert back when this store was Mel's. No particular complaints about that transaction, except to say that the installing crew was a pair of chimpanzees, and a callback was required for (correct) re-installation. Over the years, we have bought fuel-pellets from this business a ton at a time. The policy has always been that if a customer pays for the pellets up-front, he can pick up as many bags as he can transport or conveniently store, and the clerk at Abb checks off a tally on the original invoice kept on-file at the shop. Worked fine on the first ton, when Mel owned the business. Note that I have no expectation that Abb earmarks 50 bags of pellets as "MINE" and warehouses them for free...he just supplies me with bags of pellets from his stock on an as-needed basis until the contracted amount is fulfilled. So, I bought a second ton in the spring of 2011, and have used probably about 25 of the 50 bags contracted-for in that purchase. Went into Abb at their new Keizer location today (Nov 2013), and was asked "Where's your receipt?" Told them, "In my file...I'll bet it's in that file cabinet right there." I pointed at their file cabinet. They thrashed through a drawer, found my file. "No," I was informed, "There's no tally here. You took the entire ton (50 bags) when you bought it, and you can't prove otherwise!!" No amount of arguing that their sloppy bookkeeping was in no way MY problem was about to sway the owner...he insisted he didn't owe me anything and that it was my tough luck! When a small business chisels its repeat-business customers in brazenly unfair ways in order to cling to a few extra bucks, it's time the business went out-of-business...and the only way that can happen is if would-be customers stop patronizing them. I would hope that any future customer will take note of what can only be called sharp practice, and find somewhere else to take their business. I shall NEVER AGAIN favor Abb Woodstoves with my custom. read more
