For a shop who has been a high volume mover of Gun's for years, (especially the Vaquero), i cant believe it took me so long to get around to this store. Justin, a sales associate, helped me out with a lot of great information. Told me that the animals, which are awesome, along the walls were all shot by Murphy, who of course owns the shop. The store was filled with people, and the walls were covered in antique pistols, rifles, swords, knives, it was very intriguing. The selection borders on too much, the quality is very good, the antiquities make it more interesting, and the history and service are bar none. I will really enjoy coming back here. read more

Went in last week to purchase my first gun. I've been to many gun shops in town because my son drags me into them, and in general, the guys that work at these places are not customer service guys, they are gun guys, and many with overinflated egos, especially nowadays, with gun sales being so high. I got lucky with my salesman at Murphy's. I wish I would have caught his name, because he was so helpful and made it a great experience. I went back yesterday to pick up ammo for the range, and saw my buddy again, and felt welcomed back. Then, I went to Marksman on 29th and was treated like dog shit. Customer service does make a difference, in every industry. I was happy to spend over $700 at Murphy's and felt sick to my stomach after spending $70 at Marksman. read more

Murphy's has some of the best stock in Tucson, as well as great prices on used guns. They've got an amazing selection of both rifles and handguns, and their prices have made me put up with some less than ideal behavior. I've had some great experiences at Murphy's, and some not so much. I've purchased a few thousand dollars worth of guns and ammo there over the years, and have found that the clerks can be helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly, or they can be intentionally obtuse. I'll give you one experience of both, and let you decide for themselves. The first good experience I had there was while looking at pump action shotguns with my younger brother. We ran into an employee by the name of Tom who really knew that area of the firearms business. We asked a ton of questions, and he showed us a bunch of models, and based on what we wanted he led us to the tried and true Remington 870. I had a slightly negative experience when looking for a pocket gun for concealed carry. When I got the attention of a sales clerk, I asked a whole ton of questions, and the clerk deflected letting me know that I wanted a full sized Government 1911 in 45ACP. "I'd like something easy for CCW now that we're a constitutional carry state". "Take a look here at this Sig Scorpion 1911" "What about that Kel-Tec PF9 or Ruger LC9?" "You should look at this commander's model 1911." In summary, great retail store, great selection, and great customer service if you can find the right employee. read more

Not too bad of a Gun store. Ammo of certain Calibers are pretty cheap. the guns are fairly priced. However the Service could be better, A few workers are quite unfriendly and a little rude. Went to Murphy's to purchase my first firearm from a dealer and I had a great experience. I was nervous about going because many other gunshops had treated me wrongly perhaps because of my race and my age (early 20's) but everyone there was really respectful and knowledgeable and the service was pretty fast considering the virus situation and panic buying. I bought a used gun from them, my knowledge of guns is weak. But I was told I have a 30 day warranty to bring it back. When I finally got to checking out the gun I found there is a serious problem with the safety. I called to inquire about getting a refund but they said no. They said they will try to fix it first then decide if I can get a refund! That is not a warranty! They are crocked in their business dealings. I bought the gun 3days ago. read more

Working in law enforcement I deal with many gun shops and went to Murphys today to trade my Glock 22 all tricked out with tons of extras for a 4th Generation Glock and these people were the most unproffesional shop I have been in. First off the owner was in the back cursing out an employee so loud the customers heard everything. Then my like new Glock they say not interested in taking in on trade??? Only shop I went to that said that. Had $5,000 cash in my pocket to also buy a new AR and a HK. These people lost a first time customer who will share this experience with all my fellow boys in blue!!! Good job Murf. read more

One of the few, if not the only, gun shop where you can trade or sell. I don't know how pawn shops compare though but this place is dedicated & has a wide selection. The layout isn't fancy but it shows you they mean business. One employee in particular gave me a nice recommendation for a Springfield XDs they had for a possible trade. I didn't take the deal though because i already paid too much for this gun. Also I don't know if that gun was recalled; i'd have to check next time i go. One of the older-more experienced employees here discovered that my newly bought Kahr P45 had deep-unusual cracks inside the barrel. Thank God, no wonder it was jamming easily. & thank God it came with a limited manufacturer warranty. i sent it to the manufacturer free of charge, they replaced the barrel & guide rod and test fired 36 rounds. I got it back & i haven't had to pay. But i haven't had the chance to go shooting again but ill try to keep my posts updated. The reason why i didn't 5 stars is because there's stuffed animals & furs hanging on the walls. I'm not fond of the hunting of cougars, wolves, bears, or coyote. Hunt deer or hog but leave the endangered-predators alone. That wall-space can be used to hang guns instead. read more

Full disclosure--this review is from someone who doesn't hunt, or even eat meat, save for seafood. I target shoot and reload enthusiastically, but that is it. This gunsmith reminds me of what I was used to seeing in the foothills of the Adirondacks back in NY. It's set up like someone's hobby more than someone's shop. And that is not a bad thing. The selection is incredible, both new and used. They have a better selection of revolvers than any other store I have gone to in Tucson. And the prices are fair. If you are looking for a Ruger revolver, you have to visit this place. Ammo selection is pretty good. If they don't have the type or caliber you like, ask, because while some of the ammo is on the floor for browsing, others are stored behind the counter. I'm not sure why this is, but whatever. Price for ammo may be a little steep, but then again, I guess maybe it's just gone up a lot over the last couple years. Stock is also maintained on reloading materials and tools. As stated by the other reviewer, the walls are covered in trophies and antique firearms, as well as the occasional blade, thrown in for good measure. This are fun to look through. There's also some antique revolvers (and likely rifles) for sale as well. The store seems to always be doing a great amount of business. The place has always been packed when I have been in there. Still though, the staff has been helpful, and really taken time to answer my questions. I was a little leery at first because so many of the staff just look so young. But they really do seem to know their stuff. And while it will likely take you showing the initiative to start the dialog, once they know you have questions, they are more than helpful and patient. The biggest issue I have with the place is parking--for the amount of business that they seem to do, the lot is always very full. We received excellent service from Justin (younger guy with glasses) who helped point us in the right direction for what we wanted. He seemed very knowledgable and the prices were on par or better than the warehouse stores in town. Only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is that it's a small store and hard to move around (too many people packed in there) and parking is difficult due to the small parking lot. read more

Came here looking for a gun I could conceal for personal defense and I am glad I choose this shop. I walked in and they showed me their selection( which was pretty extensive), and explained the features of all the ones I was interested in. They answered all my questions and walked me around the store picking out all the supplies I asked for. I walked in nervous that it was not going to work out, or I would be ripped off, which it was the complete opposite. Probably one of the better gun stores in town to shop at, I have not bought anything new here not much/no selection from Beretta and its sister companies like Sako or Benelli for long guns. Did buy a preowned Benelli which they had at a very very fair price and I am more than happy with it. Prices are very fair on everything from firearms, scope mounting to gunsmithing services compared to other store such as 2nd amendment but just like any gun shop the ammo is obviously priced higher than online but thats pretty much a given. The staff are very friendly, and I have yet to be treated rudely by any of the staff members. Patrick is the only gunsmith in Tucson I trust to handle and work on my firearms and it makes sense that he is backed up because his work is exceptional. read more

I went to murphys today to trade in a lever action rifle i bought from them two months ago. I explained that i wanted to trade it for something else that i would shoot more often. The rude owner named murf took the gun in the back to test fire it, he came back out and said he wasn't intrested in it. Makes me wonder if he saw somthing with that rifle that i didn't when i bought it from him. Really bad service. I'm from out of town and I was looking for a decent firearms store in Tucson. I found this place on Yelp so I figured that I'll give it a try. The parking lot is pretty tiny and going inside is a little weird. The lighting is pretty dim and they have plenty of rifles and pistols. Looking at the ammo, it was over priced. Salesman asked if I needed help, just told them I was looking for a Judge, but I couldn't buy since I was out of town. I guess it's an "ok" gun shop. Unfortunately, several members of the staff is very unfriendly. They send me a vibe as" you need me, I can treat you any way I want, I don't need your bushiness. There is also an employee, you can't miss him. He wears a colorful hat. They really need to get him out of the publics eye. I recently ordered some AR-15 parts and was looking for a shop to do an FFL transfer and saw these guys on the list. I went in, after a few minutes I found a clerk willing to talk to me and he was very rude. I get that some of the information on the internet may be wrong, but he was very rude and condescending to me when telling me that they don't do that. These guys have been great! I bought my first handgun, a ruger lc9 talo here and just recieved my special order purple ruger sr 22. They went over the breakdown and features,answered all my questions, and just super helpful without being overbearing. And best of all, they don't treat a woman like an idiot! Bought several guns from Murphy's. They have a nice selection of both new and used guns, reasonable prices, knowledgeable staff and I always felt welcomed. The past six weeks I bought three guns, one used and two new, but the last new gun (and probably my last from Murphy's) just didn't fit my hand. I took it home and realized that it was just not for me so the next morning I returned the gun and traded up to a more expensive gun from a different manufacturer. They hit me with a 20% restocking fee to return the gun in perfect shape, all I did was hold in my hand. I know the invoice states a 20% restocking fee but I returned the gun within 24 hours. I begged my case that this was the third gun within six weeks but the owner was interested. Will probably NOT buy my next gun from them. read more
