I had never been to Murphy's in Bartlesville but had heard many good things about it including great food and great value. So when we had a chance to partake in a large family gathering at Murphy's I was looking forward to the experience. Upon walking in, I was very surprised at the place as it reminded more of an old diner than a steakhouse. Open since 1946, Murphy's looks like it's been around that long. Lined with red leather seated booths, there was no place for our group of nine to sit except for a round corner booth where we all crammed into like sardines. The menu was quaint, filled with mainly diner dishes and comfort foods. I decided on the favorite, the "Hot Hamburger", which was basically a hamburger on toast, topped with french fries and onions, coated with brown gravy. Service was fine given the fact they were packed with patrons when we arrived. The food was hot and fresh, including the homemade french fries. Everyone in our group seemed content with their food choices. The only real problem was how we were crammed into one little booth and there was no room to relax and visit. I would recommend Murphy's to anyone looking for a home style meal. If you're looking for a steak house experience, try somewhere else or you'll be disappointed. read more

The dining area is small. There were people waiting to get in and it's first come-first serve. No reservations. Our steaks were very good. The ice cream and brownie was very good too. The brownie had chocolate chips in them! Service was good and every table & booth was full. read more

Always good food, always good service. It does get quite busy but thats just adds to the homey feel. Gravy over all is the way to go if you are first timer. Salad is always good. The ice in the drinks are good to munch on if you're an ice muncher. Good business and adds to the history of Bartlesville. Your server will most likely call you "Hon" or "Babe" and will be super friendly. For first timers: 1) You wait in line on the honor system. No names on a list. Walk in, look around, see who you are behind. Occasionally look into the dining area and see when a table is ready and it is your turn, then go. 2) Crackers and the homemade dressing is a must while you wait for your food. 3) Crushed Ice. The food was outstanding. The service was great, and the waitress gave great recommendations. I loved the ambiance, it reminded me of the 5 n diner I use to go to in Arizona. The only thing is the few times we have been there, the people at the register are not as friendly as the rest of the staff, but I will still be back for the gravy lol read more

Everything about our visit was great! Our waitress asked if we needed menus and I mentioned we were visiting from Texas. She brought us a plate of fries with their famous brown gravy on the house to try. As a gravy lover, I have to give it 5 stars!!! Then I got the chicken fried steak with the white gravy and that got 5 stars too!!! You will not be disappointed if you decide to eat at Murphy's. Today we had lunch at Murphy's Original Steak House. It's a local favorite/hotspot but they're just as welcoming to new comers/visitors too. We started with mozzarella sticks, the cheese inside was very rich and creamy. I had the loaded baked potato with grilled chicken, the potato was very fluffy and baked perfectly. The chicken comes separate from the potato so you can add as much as you want. My husband had the BLT with half order of fries, I love the fries!!! He was gracious enough to share- lucky me! While we were there Santa dropped in, I didn't get a picture of him but it was really cute! If you want to eat where the locals eat, eat here. read more

You guys definitely out did yourselves again for dinner. A month ago when we came we both had the juiciest burgers ever along with apple cobbler which was amazing. Tonight my husband had a burger which he loves and said was very juice. I had the gumbo shrimp and fries which was amazing. So much good I have lunch tomorrow. We also splurged on dessert so we can sample them all. We got chocolate pie, coconut cream pie, lemon meringue pie & pecan pie. Every bite was absolutely amazing. This is practically a landmark. There is no other diner like this one. The things to eat here are: Salad with house dressing (creamy garlic dressing) Hot hamburger with grilled onions--I get the junior hot hamburger because even the little one is HUGE. I get grilled onions added but I skip the cheese because I can't taste it covered in gravy. And order it gravy over all. Then I create a wreath of ketchup around the outer edge. Ribeye steak. My hubby always loves it. Hamburger steak is always what my mom loves to eat. Coconut meringue pie. If you're too full, get it to go. You will not regret it. So good. read more

It is reminiscent of a 50's diner / truck stop cafe. It offers good steaks, generous portions, and everything can be ordered smothered in brown gravy, which is what keeps this place flooded with patrons. The friendly and very good service also stands out. We had the sirloin dinners. A good 8oz sirloin steak cooked perfectly. The meal starts with a basic lettuce salad. They have a wide variety of salad dressings available, including a house dressing which is also a signature offering of the diner. The side choices we picked were a baked potato and fries with gravy on the side. The baked potato was perfect, but watch out it comes with a half a stick of butter. For the fires, I decide to get the gravy on the side. I recommend you do the same! The gravy looks like and has the consistency of chocolate pudding. It has a mild beef flavor and makes a tasty dipping sauce for the fries. I am not sure I would want everything smothered in it though. I recommend Murphy's. We arrived around noon on a Saturday it was busy but there were just 2 of us so we sat at their counter, got the hot hamburger with gravy all over junior size and it was still huge! The food is delicious and there homemade dressing is the best (if you like garlic). They are known for their hot hamburger, with Gravy over it all. I get it with cheese and onions cooked into the meat. As well i always order the Jr. Size (yes i am 400 lbs, and i order the jr) and a salad and it is all i can do eat it all!
