It's a cool, neat place with a bar area in the middle with seating around. We were quickly greeted and our server was prompt. He gave recommendations that definitely helped us on our decision. Wife had the meatloaf, very flavorful, hearty portion of meat served with fresh green beans and mashed potatoes. Definitely a must try. I had the roast beef, mashed potatoes with brown gravy and fresh sautéed green beans. The roast beef was tender, flavorful and the meal was plenty for the price. Highly recommend this plate. This was our plan B. We had wanted to eat at another locale in downtown B'ville but it was closed. I had been here before so suggested it. Service was great! We were seated upstairs and I really got the vibe that this restaurant could have been in Taos, Red River, or Crested Butte. It's vintage and retro but elevated a bit (if that makes sense). We ordered immediately and I asked about the Pesto Bowl (which was a special). Was told it used to be on the menu about 6 years ago and they were thinking about bringing it back. It was pesto, pasta and veggies but you could add a protein for no extra cost. I just went with the plain bowl (no protein). The Hubs ordered the Steak Dianne ("A throwback to the 1960s"). Thought that was a cool entree to feature. It came with charred (in a good way) Brussel sprouts and delicious mashed potatoes underneath the steak and mushrooms. My basil bowl was pretty good too. The pesto had a great flavor and the veggies were just cooked perfectly--still crisp and not mushy. Only negative was that there was a lot of liquid in the bottom of my bowl. My mom and I ate at the Painted Horse two nights in a row while we were in town from St. Louis. It gives you a feeling of an old-time saloon and is a little dark inside. The first night I had the macaroni &cheese with bbq pulled pork. It was creamy and the sweet pork on top helped cut through the richness. The second night we both had the Hot Gobbler which was turkey with jalapeño pimento cheese. I loved it but it was a little spicy for my mom. The service was good. The first night we were seated by the kitchen and my view was a stack of boxes and metal shelves. That would be my only complaint. Appetizers - our friends ordered the combo fresh zucchini and mushrooms - the zucchini was not crispy, the mushrooms were ok. We ordered the artichoke baked, this was really good! Dinner - we each split our meal with our spouses - they got the chicken fried steak. We got the maple bourbon chicken with cream cheese mashers and green beans. We added the Brussel sprouts. Chicken was moist, flavor not as deep as I thought it would be. Potatoes were a little dry but good. Green beans were good. Brussel sprouts were a bit burnt. Oh wow. Great recommendation by the Hilton Garden Inn, right across the street. Such friendly and great efficient service. We had the buffalo wings, the steak salad, and the Asian beef bowl. All three were great. If we were in town longer, this would definitely be a repeat. read more

Service is efficient and friendly. The menu is very Southern with massive portions. Per our server's recommendation, I ordered the mac and cheese with pulled pork and bacon. They added pulled pork, jalapeños, barbecue sauce and maybe a few other things. Zach tried it. I was afraid to because I forgot to pack my cholesterol medication on this trip and I didn't want to risk it. I had the fish. Okay, it was fish and chips, but I had to try it because instead of the usual cod, they used catfish. And I opted for the sweet potato fries, which is a healthier option. The Cole Slaw was pretty pathetic, but it came with the meal. It also stayed behind. In the server's defense, she asked me if it was cooked correctly, and I said it was fine. I'm not one of those to complain and ask for a whole new meal. But it was nowhere near what I asked for. It came with Parmesan potatoes and Brussels sprouts, both good. I had some fries on the side (sometimes you just need some French fries). They were basic shoestring fries. I had the margarita, which was basic. Not fancy, but not bad. This place has a lot of salads, sandwiches, nachos, cheese-covered fries, Mac n cheese dishes. My server, Holly, was good. She was kind, personable, attentive, and made sure I had everything I needed, even when serving another large party. Painted Horse is a staple in Bartlesville. It is a great place for a work lunch, celebration dinner, or family gathering. Their macaroni and cheeses are fantastic, but incredibly rich and heavy. When I'm really treating myself, this is my go to. They also have great fries, sandwiches and excellent homemade ranch. The Hot Gobbler is really excellent, but again, pretty heavy. Stayed across the street for work. Was dying for some real food the steak sandwich was fabulous, cooked exactly as I asked and hit the spot after a long day. The rotating beer selection is heavily themed in local brews and I loved that. We were there for lunch, but they weren't exceptionally busy, so not sure why the service was so slow. My business partners burger was overcooked, he asked for medium, it was well done. I Yelped this area to find one of the nicer restaurants in this small town and we're so glad the reviews led us here. We loved Van! He helped me to customize the spicy Asian bowl into more of a salad. An excellent choice! Not too sweet or spicy, with the very best flavors! Then Van guided us on dessert--right to the double chocolate cake. The ganache was a cross between fudge and the best icing you've ever had in your life.
