I know few people enjoy a smoking bar, but this place is iconic and vintage. It is cozy and well rode. Drinks are priced right, food is delish and the staff are island friendly. Def recommend a stop in! read more

If you love a bar with character and characters, this is the place for you. It is a smokey dive, but I visit every time I am on the island and love it. Bartenders are good and they serve a solid drink for a decent price. They have live music on the weekends. Every person I have taken here loved it. Definitely worth checking out. read more

This is your classic dive bar. I absolutely adored everything about it! The pool table was in good condition and my boyfriend and I talked to some nice people at the bar. The drinks were reasonable and they gave us a generous pour. This is definitely a fun find in downtown St Simons!!! read more

Murphy's is certainly a dive bar with a little extra. If you are looking to just chill and relax and maybe carry on a coversation with someone; then Murphy's is the place to be. It is a nice little dive bar with pool table and a living room setup complete with fireplace. And the prices can't be beat, they serve the cheapest booze on the island. Having grown up going to SSI for the summers and having to drive by Murphy's all my life I finally got a chance to check it out after always wanting to. It was in the middle of the day and yet it was still too dark for me and I love a good dive bar. Also there is smoking allowed which in 2021 blows my mind since as more boomers die off the crowd is more likely to be anti-smoke than pro-smoke so why drive off the majority of your potential business? Maybe the policy will change in the coming years as the demographics continue to shift but I won't go back as long as my entry into the bar guarantees I come out smelling like an ash tray. read more

This place is not just a good bar for St. Simons, it is probably my favorite bar on the planet. It has been owned by locals for over 35 years and maintains the same vibe, year after year. Classic rock always wafts through the speakers, and gets progressively louder as the night goes on. The serve the coldest Budweiser on the island and the mixed drinks are large and cheap. Just don't order a fru-fru drink here. There are cool classic American oil paintings on the wall, three pool tables (75 cents a game), and free darts. It also has a fireplace for the cooler months and lots of bookshelves and rustic furniture. The only downside is the constant cigarette smoke. I don't think they have gotten the memo on the non-smoking trend in the rest of the world. I think that is just another remnant from the 70's era when this bar was born. The clientele is generally older, and mostly locals. However, it does get hoppin' on the weekends and occasionally hosts a live band. The bands are usually local, usually classic rock, and usually good - at least the few I have seen. Don't miss this spot when you are in St. Simons. Unless, of course, you like fru-fru drinks, or can't abide a little cigarette smoke. read more

My cousins and I decided to check this place out because it was supposedly the "happenin' place to be." Alas, once we were there, we found out that it was not really happenin' at all. It was cute. The decor was interesting and different. I had a pool table. But the clientele was a lot older than we were (40s+). It was a pretty quiet scene, and didn't have much of a "fun" or "party" atmosphere. This is more of a laid-back, chill place. For instance, the section that we were seated at resembled a library (bookshelves, books, and all). The good thing though, for a New Yorker such as myself, is the prices. For $3.50, you can get a GIANT (and by "giant," I mean a full pint-glass) vodka/cranberry, and it's mixed STRONG. Local gathering hole of the SSI faithful. Great music on the weekends, Beatles on the speakers during the weekdays. Bar staff is friendly and always sharing good conversation. Throw darts or shoot pool. In the winter, hang your coat up front and grab a seat next to the fire to warm up. I've been going to Murphys Tavern ever sence I was young enough to sneak in and get kicked out! LOL! But seriously, I'm from that whole area. In my 20's it was a great place to meet up with my friends to get the night going but would head down the road to dance. As i've gotten older, and moved away, I still meet up with friends and we are mellow now and hang out and play pool all night when i'm in town. I even bought one of those plaques on the bar back in the mid 80's. Don't know if it's still there but wonderful memories of partying there. Yes, the smoke is quite a pain and can get to be too much at times, but I still love the place. I think it's the same bartender that use to chase me out too! LOL! read more
