Oh my. What a great place. Packed every night so expect to wait at least 20 minutes if you arrive after 6...especially on weekends...but well worth the wait. Prices are from the 1990s. Draft beer (microbrew) at $3. A pile of fried oysters (12ish) as an appetizer, $8.99. Steak Sandwich (had one yesterday and one today)...about $9...gotta be 12 oz and no grizzle or fat to be found. I don't understand this place. Their "special" was watered down wing sauce with shrimp and their steak sandwich was piece of mediocre steak on damn near crackers. On top of it the place tries to sell a low-light jazz club feel, but then has terrible food. The vibes are weird and not sure why locals recommend the spot. It's a great place to take a date and not break the bank on dinner because the food is good and they have live jazz music almost every night. This place is the BOMB. We stopped based on a friend's recommendation of a local joint in Columbia and boy were we not disappointed. We started with the Bob's Bobs (kabob) appetizer, and an order of fried green peppers. Those come thin sliced, battered and fried like an onion ring, and dusted in powdered sugar. Sounded just odd enough that we had to try it, and man was it good. I moved on to a Pastrami & Swiss sandwich and our waiter suggested some "catfish aoli" (like tartar with franks hot sauce) for it which was spot on - I had to order a second round it was so good. We finished off with a shared Bullwinkle Mouse and a Chocolate Peanut Butter brownie & ice cream, both of which were out of this world. It's just a couple miles off the highway, why would I go anywhere else in Columbia to eat?? For a place in a strip mall, my expectations were low. The lights were down and the jazz in the background were refreshing. We weren't rushed out after we ate and it was just a very relaxing, delicious meal. With Covid-19 keeping everyone in the house many restaurants are shutting down but @Murry's is still offering five star quality food, curb side. I placed my order calling the store directly with a gift card from two years ago! AND THEY ACCEPTED IT! So that's an A+ customer service. And was told my order would be ready in fifteen minutes so I showed up in ten. I pulled up and went to main lobby where I was greeted by happy staff. And I'm pretty sure one was the owner was there and he was very warm and welcoming. Which I appreciate because I've had take out since the pandemic and other places were so over whelmed they left their smiles at the door. But every one at Murrys was great and listened to my rambling (3rd day of kids being out of school so it was nice to talk to grown ups). ALSO The restaurant was literally sparkling clean. You can tell they meant that they were taking precautions and not just saying it to keep business going. I ordered my favorite Brock's Green Pepper Rings box of fries and their Philly. So many things come into play when it comes to a great Philly and you get it all right here. THEY ACTUALLY SEASON THEIR MEAT! And the meat was super tender. The sandwich wasn't cut in half when I picked it up but I think using my hands to tear it apart was my favorite part, the meat was tender so it just pulled apart and the cheese was properly proportioned to the meat. And my favorite was their secret ingredient which gives a kick of flavor in it. Which not many are aware takes a philly to the next level. And even when I went back to eat the second half later (because it's huge), it was still tender and none got stuck in my teeth. My husband and I love Murrys! We come at least once a month. The tuna, pesto and feta sandwich is delicious, the feta is so fresh! My husband gets the catfish sandwich or the oyster grinder. Murrys also has the best calamari and we love the dipping sauce. Another favorite is the Greek salad, I usually add grilled chicken breast to it, and the salad is so filling. Stopped for lunch. Ordered a salad and the oyster grinder. Kudos to the chef for NOT calling it a poboy (not the same bread as a New Orleans poboy. I've been to Murrys a handful of times. Mainly when I was in college and family came in town. I recently came back with my girlfriend and her family for a quick lunch. The first thing that anyone notices when they walk into Murrys is how dark it is. Most places turn up the light during the day but NOPE. Not Murrys. They have 24/7 intense jazz club mood lighting. That's probably why they don't have many food photos. Just like everywhere in Columbia, the majority of the menu is cheap. Especially considering this being one of the nicer places to visit. We got an order of their famous fried green peppers with powdered sugar. An unlikely but tasty combination! For my main meal, I went with the hot turkey sandwich. It was pretty darn good and around $6. I wasn't too hungry but wasn't in the mood for a salad. I'd recommend getting the steak sandwich. It's literally a steak on bread for under $10. It might be one of the best steak deals I've seen in quite some time. If you come in the evening prepare yourself for loud music and an upbeat atmosphere! read more

Time to update my 2016 review ....I have always have been a fan of this place. They can pack in the people in here and be on a long waiting line with the food quality being just as good as you would always expect. My favorite meal is the chicken pablano and the steak sandwich. French fries are also made fresh and always cooked to perfection. My wife and many of her friends loOove the deep fried green peppers with powdered sugar...not for me, sorry. This place arguably has the best salads in town. I loOove the Deb's Garlic Salad - but you had better love garlic to have this one. My wife and I often split this one.
