Okay- this is a conflicted review- let's start with the good: ( 5 ) We went there about 730-745 on a Saturday, just missed the rush so we were seated immediately. Server was sweet and on top of things. Once the food was serviced, our cook Manuel was amazing. Funny, personable and the food was literally PERFECT!! Will definitely be back again.. The bad: (-1) When you walk in the main door there is a smell. From working in bar service- I'm thinking the bar drain is funky or there is an old mop somewhere- it's just a funky stagnated smell. Although it does not smell like that in the food area. Bathroom- so gross. It is even reflecting on their health score. It's gross. It's pretty dusty looking, definitely needs a really good cleaning/degreasing It's also pretty dark inside The ugly: (-1star) The owner clearly micromanages the sh*t out of her staff - the waitress is clearly capable of doing her job and the woman was literally standing over her shoulder telling her what to do. I'm all for cultural and whatever- but having female staff wear an Amazon "kimono " aka a robe, it's a little much. IMPORTANT: If you want the tip - or a portion of the TIP to go to the cook, you must tell the waitress "x amount goes to the chef" or give it to him directly- or else the server gets it all Currently: no sushi only dine in service The place is in transition of new ownership, so they are not restocking some items until the handoff is done. - alcohol and food supplies may vary. The change should be completed in about 2 months. We absolutely plan on coming back- especially under new ownership- have really high hopes for good come back ! read more

Not a good place anymore, I had filet ninon ( real tuff) the scallops were the size of a quarter and just as thin they are sopositly sea scallops. Also be careful with the bill the gratuity is already added on. Sorry to say we don't be back, not impressed with the food or the price. read more

My kids took me last night to celebrate my birthday. Excellent service and delicious food. We ordered the Lion King roll, the Dragon roll, the Tuna roll & and Crunchy roll. They were so good! We went here for the first time yesterday. Honestly we went there because they had a coupon for a free kids meal with 2 adult entrees. We walked in and it was pretty empty, save for a group of 6 people, which did worry me a little, but again it was a Tuesday night, and the place looked very clean. The bartender, who come to find out was the owner Manuel's wife, was making some good looking drinks for the other group. She asked us to have a seat while they set up a table for us. We were seated after a brief wait (~5 mins). A server asked us if we wanted drinks or appetizers and we ordered a bottle of unfiltered sake and a California roll. They came quickly. The California roll was huge (8 pieces I think) and tasted great. A good start. The server then took our order and we waited for a bit for our chef to come. In the meantime we were brought salad and onion soup, both of which were excellent. We were treated to Carlos. He was definitely new to the job (he mentioned he had only been there since Manuel took over ownership, about 3 months or so), and was still learning all the necessary skills. However, I think he did a great job; he joked with us a bit, my kids were awed by his fried rice beating heart and flaming onion volcano, as well as him attempting to toss a few pieces of shrimp in to their mouths. Even more importantly, all the food (between the 4 of us we had chicken, steak, shrimp, scallops, and swordfish) he cooked for us was done perfectly and tasted great. We all had the fried rice, and while a bit pricey, I would get it again. Manuel was cooking for the other group, and he also chatted with us to let us know that he was the owner and if we needed anything, he would take care of it. Everyone there was friendly and welcoming which was really nice. We will definitely be back. read more

All I can say is that you can't compare it to Benihana's from Cupertino. This was okay... for being in Tracy. We came to visit family and wanted to try something different and we gave this place a shot. The place is dark and felt run down, the shopping plaza is dead. We had a reservation and were the first customers for dinner. Got seated got out drinks and we waited...and waited.... Finally, it was show time. Our cook was ok tried to entertain but wasn't good at all. But it's ok, it's about the food... We all ordered pretty much the same to be safe I guess and ordered chicken, shrimp and fried rice. The rice was good not salty a plus for me, the rest was meh lacked flavor. Would I come back? No, at this time, and I did hear it's under new ownership so maybe it needs feedback and time. This place is a joke, brought my elderly parents on a random Friday night. Walked in and both the lady and young man behind the counter ignored us (1st red flag) I walked up to them and asked if there was someone to assist at the front. Mind you, there was a large party waiting to be seated. Lady said she would be with us shortly. She sat the large group, then came back and sat my parents n I at a hibachi that was filthy (2nd red flag ) .. I immediately asked for another table.. they took us to the back table which was a little cleaner. We ordered one beer n a soda. The cook came out to start the large party and then no one.. I mean NO ONE else was coming out after to cook.. they had one chef only to my surprise. I asked to pay for our drinks as we had it. As I'm walking my parents out I stop to pay and the lady tells me that the big party had an RSVP (what's that gotta do with me) I told her the website didn't say we needed that, and she could have told us from the jump rather than sitting us down to wait what would have been over 1.5 hours to eat. My wife and I came here to get teppanyaki with some work friends after we were told the quality had improved. We were surprised that this is considered an improvement. While the teppanyaki was decent the sushi was what really killed us. 2 of our guests decided they wanted to eat sushi only and I myself ordered a roll as well. The sushi arrived after the teppanyaki was completed and most of us were done eating. When it did arrive it was sad. We had different colors of ginger, and the rolls tasted like nothing. I got the lion king roll and it was cold and tasted of old white rice. They said the sushi station wasn't prepared for orders which is odd considering they specifically asked us if we wanted a sushi menu before seating. Went there Saturday 2/19 with a party of 12 to celebrate 2 birthdays, with a 6PM reservation. We waited 37 min to get our drink order taken. Then we got our drinks 50 (yes five-zero) minutes after sitting down. We finished our salad and soup before any drink was brought to the table. We had 3 kids at the table who were as patient as they come while waiting for their Shirley Temples! Then we were told we couldn't have any sake bombs. Excuse me...why not? "Because" is all we were told. 30 seconds later, 2 tables over is dropin' bombs? WTF? Food was awesome as shared with other reviews. Turns out that's all that is good there. We were told that the chefs will be taking over the restaurant and the current slum-lord owner will be leaving. I will give ONE more shot in a couple of months to see if anything has changed. We used to go to Musashi's 2-3 times a week for sushi and at least once a month for dinner 20 years ago, but when the original owners sold the restaurant to a new owner, things went straight to you know where. The owner was HORRIBLE in every aspect of the word HORRIBLE!!! We gave her many opportunities over a 1-2 year span, but unfortunately things progressively got worse. Food quality took a nosedive and service dropped off tremendously, so we decided not to go back. However, I got word the restaurant has been under new ownership for the past 2 years with positive comments. We decided to give it shot so we celebrated my daughters 40th birthday there on Saturday February the 1st and we weren't disappointed. The food quality, service, and atmosphere were great. This place was popping again. If you had the same bad experience I had with the previous owner, please go back and give the new ownership a chance. You won't be disappointed. read more

We wanted to find a place where we can eat Hibachi and we found a place near home. Manuel which was our cook did a great job with the food and his attention was one of a kind. He mentioned that he is the new owner but the location has been there for over 10+ years. The place was clean and the floors were clean also considering it was busy and a food restaurant. This is the hardest review I've ever had to write. I really want to like this place since I've been a loyal customer for about a dozen years and have never had a bad experience. But after my last visit, I really have some qualms with the service & food. My family and I visited Musashi's on Sunday, December 26th to celebrate my oldest kids birthday. I made reservations for 7:00 pm and we arrived about ten till. Walking in, we we're seated promptly at a table of our own and our server was quick to hand us menu's and take our drink orders. My family stuck with the steak and shrimp from the standard menu, but I went with the sushi / sashimi menu instead. I ordered two sushi rolls (dragon and spicy tuna), two orders of tobiko and a sashimi combo. I enjoyed watching the cooking show and my family dinning on their diner before my first rolls showed up. Hungrier than ever now, I couldn't wait to dive into my tobiko rolls. When I bit into my first roll, I had to quickly spit out what I had in my mouth into my napkin. The tobiko was fricken FROZEN. I've been to Japan twice and have consumed every type of sushi / sashimi imaginable, but this was a first. Maybe I'm being quick to judge. Maybe it's a fluke. I'll wait on the rest of my order and see how it goes. About the time my family we're asking for to-go containers, the rest of my order showed up. The two sushi rolls (dragon and spicy tuna) were good, but not great and the assorted sashimi. I wanted to take a picture, but again, I really want to like this place so I opted not to. My sashimi had dull, faded colors. Wait, I've seen this before. The color fades when the fish is washed before it's served. The water takes away the true colors leaving sashimi that looks old and lifeless behind. Washing the colors away also took the flavors with it. Good thing there were only five pieces for me to stomach. The sixth piece I couldn't eat. It was a shrimp that had been washed, but somehow they missed the boo boo vein. I really wish I could say better about this place, but I can't. Since my last visit (about a year ago), the place has gone down hill. And from what I've been reading from my fellow yelper's, I seriously doubt a recovery anytime soon. I highly recommend eating sushi / sashimi elsewhere. As for the diner show and the regular menu items at Musashi's. My family told me it was good. read more

Our daughter lives in Tracy and she invited us to go to the New Musashi, for our Grandson's birthday. From the minute we walked in we noticed a huge difference.
