This sushi spot has been around for a long time, I haven't been in years. The service was great from the moment we walked in, friendly staff, attentive, and everything came out in a timely manner. As for the food, it was a bit of a mixed experience. My favorite dish was the ceviche. It was fresh and really stood out compared to everything else we tried. The sushi itself, though, was just okay. Some of the rolls felt a little bland, and many of them were drenched in sauce, which made it hard to really taste the fish and other ingredients. It kind of overpowered the rolls instead of enhancing them. Overall, it was still a pleasant visit thanks to the great service and the ceviche. read more

Considering I order from Mikasa at least once biweekly, I'm shocked I didn't make a review sooner. I usually make a to-go order, since there's frequently a crowd when I would show up. Walk-in and order, call ahead, or DoorDash, so many options. I've have a variety of their sushi rolls, and my favorites have been Red Dragon Roll and DCS Roll. If you're a tuna and shrimp tempura fan, you'll probably like those too. read more

We came here on a Sunday a late lunch-early dinner. I really enjoyed my futomaki roll. When I asked for a ramen the waitress recommended the chow mein style noodle with the beef. Great dinner as always. Service was spot on, our waiter was quick and came back several times for drink refills. The sashimi was fresh and the tempura was nicely battered and crispy. Always love their soup and salad that comes with the meal. If I had to point out a flaw it was that the hot tea seemed a little off...but maybe we just didn't let it steep long enough. This was my first time trying this restaurant, and unfortunately it was a complete disappointment. I have a high regard for Japanese cuisine and the standards typically associated with it, but this experience fell far short of my expectations. First, the teriyaki chicken tasted off and was difficult to eat. The flavor and texture were unpleasant enough that I left most of it untouched. Second, the tempura was covered in a thick, heavy batter, which was nothing like the light, crispy tempura batter typically found in Japanese restaurants. Third, the mango sago did not resemble the photo being advertised. Instead of having mango toppings as shown, the mango was blended into the drink with only tiny bits remaining. To make matters worse, there was a piece of plastic in the drink that I almost consumed. Overall, this was a very disappointing dining experience. There was even a waitress who had walked right by us to take the orders of three ladies who were sat next to the entrance. She made eye contact but then looked away without any greeting. A total of three workers had seen us and didnt greet us. Finally after standing around for a bit, a server finally acknowledged us and got us to a table. They server was quick to take our order and the food did come out quickly. However the food was mediocre. The salad that came with my bento box was very watered down. It almost had more water than dressing itself. The entree was decent. The fruit on the plate was fresh and sweet. But nothing else really amazed us. I have gone to Mikasa for years now and it remains one of my favorite sushi places in the 209. It's a great place to bring a family and the service is always good. It can be crowded inside the restaurant at times, but it has a nice atmosphere. As a vegetarian there is a large assortment of rolls to choose from which is nice because I don't eat fish, but also want to eat things beyond a basic avocado or cucumber roll. My favorite item to order is the Mary's Roll. Some close seconds are a Futomaki roll, vegetable teriyaki, and their spicy edamame. read more

We've been to hundred of sushi restaurant and this is definitely the worst. First of all, the bento box does not come with miso soup (our fault for not asking but also the first one I've been to that does that). Next is the lion king roll without sauce. Basically it's dry bake salmon on top. And the Philadelphia roll they send me home with look like one in a grocery store fridge. WILL DEFINITELY NOT BE COMMING BACK HERE. I've been coming here for years! Every time I visit home I always stop at Mikasa for some sushi! They've upgraded their entry, so there's a screen where you can check in if you are there for pickup or if you'd like to dine in. This makes the pickup service really fast. I paid and got my order pretty soon afternoon arriving. I love all the options available. The seafood and vegetables are always fresh! I recommend any of the special rolls. Met a dear friend for a weekday lunch- we came here because our regular nearby spot has closed. (sad face). Our usual go-to served an Avocado Bomb. Our absolute favorite. Luckily, this place can also make one!! We will ask for a few modifications in the future, but it was really great here! We were seated promptly, even during the peak lunch rush. Our booth was in the back and very private- away from most of the noise. Plenty of parking. Visited family before being recommended this place for the fact they served udon, and udon being my favorite japanese foods. Turned out to be disappointing for the reasons: (1) Appetizers portions were off the rails with whatever you ordered. We saw other tables ordering the calamari and having a mountain of food on their plate while we ordered the gyoza and got six small bit. (2) After ordering we ordered our entrees, we noticed our dishes came with a "salad" on the side. Turned out it was just lettuce with ranch sauce on top, not even cabbage. I've been eating at Mikasa since back in the day when they were located in Stockton. Today my family and I drove there as we had done so many times and I really don't know what is going on. I am not sure if is lack of training or caring or burnout but the food isn't what I drive there over an hour. The flavor of Jerry's Roll wasn't there. Is never supposed to be sweet. This is the second time and I was tempted to send it back because it was disappointing and bottom line flavor wasn't good. The other disappointment was the service. They were staffed appropriately yet when I requested low sodium soy sauce the waiter kept walking and tapped another waiter who appeared to be taking his lunch. He brought me what I asked for but what I'm saying is that the staff has an uncaring demeanor that is hard to understand. Last time I was there the restaurant was nearly empty yet it took at least 20 minutes to get someone to come and take our order and when I got my food which took them a while and it wasn't right. The purpose of this review is in hopes that you the workers, the owners understand that when it comes to dining out there is a lot of options. My friends brought me here on a lovely Saturday evening. They have came multiple times but this was my first. They spoke so highly of it. I ordered my usually two sushi rolls for myself. I forget which two but they were both fantastic! I could not agree with my friends more on the taste of Mikasa. If you are looking for Japanese food, I do not recommend this place. We first arrived, there was quite a bit of sitting available and not too busy. They sat us in the back near the bathrooms, dark and dank. We asked to move to the windows for some light and to get away from the smell. The menu looked good and they have a wide variety of dishes. We got 4 sushi rolls and 2 nigiri rolls. Everything tasted old. The fish was very thin and dry the rice wasn't even sushi rice. The tempura tasted like old cardboard. When looking for sushi you expect fresh fish and this was not the case. We paid extra for the roe and it was so fishy and off. We tried each roll and they were awful. The only thing good was the miso soup and the nice waitress who tried to help us out and give us a discount and the manager said no. read more

The first time we came here, our booth smelled like cat pee. I could not place where exactly it was coming from but it was strong and off-putting. The food was only okay. The second time I came years later, they literally ignored everyone in line and just worked on to-go orders only. About 8 of us were standing in line for a good 25 minutes before anyone greeted us. Unfortunately, the food was pretty mediocre. I ordered a couple bento items and the Jerry roll. Chicken katsu and California roll were good but nothing special. The spicy tuna roll really threw me off. The tuna did not taste fresh. It's a light pinkish paste that was sour and had a lot of filler in it. The Jerry roll (also had spicy tuna in it) was overpowered by so much raw onion and cilantro, which mostly ended up in the trash after picking the actual rolls out. I had a very disappointing and frustrating experience at Mikasa ( Lathrop location). I ordered food that was clearly not up to standard -- it made a family member sick shortly after eating it. I called the restaurant to inform them of the situation, expecting at the very least a refund or a gesture of good customer service. Instead, I was told that unless I brought the food back, there was nothing they could do. The catch? It was after hours when we discovered the issue, and by the time I spoke to them, the food had already been thrown away. The manager told me I'd basically need to dig it out of the trash and bring it in to get a refund. I was shocked. I explained that someone got sick and that the food was unsafe, but they told me they "have insurance" for that -- as if that helps me at all. I wasn't asking for anything unreasonable -- just my money back for a meal that was clearly not okay. Instead, they insisted they needed to "see the food" in order to offer a refund. I get that businesses have policies, but common sense and decency should override rigid rules in situations like this. Suggesting a customer should dig through garbage for a refund isn't just unprofessional -it's insulting. I won't be returning, and I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone who values health, accountability, or even basic customer service. read more

I was craving sushi tonight so I decided to give this place a try. I ordered through DoorDash our usuals in almost every sushi place such as the Crunch, Lion King, and Rainbow rolls. Take into consideration that my husband was already inside the restaurant waiting for the order, so "waiting for a Dasher" didn't affect the quality of the food. 1) The Crunch roll wasn't as crunchy. 2) The salmon of the Lion King were obviously individually placed on top of the roll since they were in different sizes on each slice. Also, this roll didn't look or taste baked at all. 3) At least the Rainbow roll wasn't too bad. I want to say the raw fish are fresh enough. The slices were thin too for them to be considered "good" sushi. Overall it was okay for a quick craving, but maybe it's a different experience and hopefully a better one to dine-in.
