Maria immediately made me feel comfortable and came up with a workout that was tailored to exactly what I wanted to achieve. Each session is one hour, but it's the fastest hour I've ever spent at a gym. The workouts are challenging but very doable, and I liked the intimate environment -- it's really just you, your trainer, and maybe two other people working out with their trainers at the same time. It's laidback and you get the sense of a real community. If I decide to work with a trainer again down the road, I will most probably be knocking on their door again.

Three years ago, my good friend introduced me to Joel and I have been training with him ever since. "Excellent Trainer" doesn't do Joel justice. He is way more than just a great trainer - he is a fitness guru, motivational coach, and nutritional expert all in one. He personalizes my workout regimes to meet my goals and body type, and is genuinely invested in my journey to achieving maximum fitness. He is reliable, consistent, and inspiring - so much so, that I am willing to go to the financial district at 6am weekly to see him (despite living and working taxi rides away and being a night person! ) I highly recommend Joel for anyone looking to improve their overall well being, fitness and/or outlook on life!

Ivy is empathetic and encouraging no matter your level and will push you to ensure you are getting the most out of your sessions. Her programming is diverse and aligns with your personal goals (which you go over in the first consultation call). I did the group sessions and Ivy always makes sure the vibes are uplifting and motivating (awesome playlists btw - also loved the workout groups)! I was already seeing results by the end of the first month, already learned how to properly deadlift and squat and understood which muscles had to be worked on with certain exercises. Ivy will go over exercises with patience and understanding and even breaks down steps further if you are struggling. Working out with Ivy was the highlight of my week and I looked forward to every session. I can now lift heavy things I couldn't carry before and my stamina is improving every week. My only regret was not starting with her sooner! I went from running the other way with the idea of the gym to loving exercise (not to mention my mental health is on an all time high since starting four months ago). As a former competitive swimmer, it was extremely difficult to do flip turns, not only because they closed half of the pool horizontally due to lifeguard staffing issues, but also because there were multiple people moving in different directions. It was busy when it first opened in the morning but then calm downed a bit and folks were able to do more lap swimming. Water was pretty clean and temperature was good; chlorine levels weren't too bad. Sounds like they close for the fall/winter so I'm hoping to come back before it gets cold.

I absolutely recommend Mushin MMA for anyone interested in martial arts and/or CrossFit. The instructors are amazing and Mushin is a very supportive environment. The classes are certainly challenging (professional fighters train here,) but not intimidating to beginners. As someone who likes to do martial arts recreationally, I found Mushin to be a great fit. One thing that I really appreciate is that when you sign up for a membership, you are welcome to take any of the classes--Striking, Grappling, or CrossFit. Many other gyms require you to buy separate memberships for each type of training (one for grappling and another one for striking, etc.) The flexibility of the Mushin membership is ideal for anyone who wants to learn muay thai and jiu jitsu, but doesn't want to have to pay for separate programs. The people who train here are very welcoming and the fact that Mushin is a smaller gym helps foster the sense of community. read more

Erik has put together a unique program which utilizes aspects of MMA, Crossfit and other intensive training. More than just getting an incredible workout every session, I highly value the fitness knowledge and philosophy that I have learned from him during my time here which is second to none. The instructors and staff here are highly professional and experts in their respective fields. The comradery amongst the member community is also what makes this place great as I see of all walks of life, professions and ages come to work out. Required foot baths before stepping on the mats and wiping down the mats after class. It's safe for everyone, regardless of age, body type or gender. First off, the gym is very clean and well kept. There's access to weights/lifting equipment if you want to warm up or even workout separately. The changing rooms are clean and private. I've been training here for 6+ months and should've left a review a while ago. This gym finds a great mix between pushing yourself past your limits to grow while still building friendships and community. Zata is the main No Gi instructor and has built a phenomenal curriculum. Each class is full of drills and technique that work well for all levels and have made me such a better grappler. Zata also teaches at a fast pace, which while sometimes is difficult, is extremely necessary for becoming comfortable with live training. Zata also welcomes everyone like family and in a sport where it can be frustrating, intimidating, and uncomfortable, he's exactly who you want in your corner. I would hands down recommend this place to absolutely everyone and anyone who is interested in martial arts, self defense, and exercise. Anytime I'm in NYC, you know I'll be here.

I run about 20 miles a week, so I am by no means in amazing shape. The class was about 10 people, it was very challenging but not impossible. Andy the instructor was amazing at giving you pointers for making the circuits harder or easier depending on your level of fitness. I will definitely be going back, it is an awesome way to break up the monotony of a workout routine, i.e. running. Also if your a fitness maniac, there were some people training there who were in ridiculous shape.
