We first hired Ken in 2021 to do A/V for our event, for 35 people at the Odyssey in Granada Hills. We did so again for another larger event. He was wonderful. His equipment was top notch, he arrived ahead of time, set up for us, worked with a couple of our guys to use one of his laptops for part of the scenario. He was so accomodating, gracious and chill about the whole situation. There were no glitches ... none. Seriously ... if the Odyssey management, a division of 1st class Specialty Restaurants Corporation ... were to be fielding lots of complaints about Ken's company THEY WOULD NOT USE HIM OR RECOMMEND HIM. BUT THEY DO! ... because he delivers. For our church group, his price was well worth it, and comparatively modest for such professional gear and tech help. I've recommended Ken many times. He had a secondary DJ "Oscar" in tow. We spoke for a while, he offered as a GREAT deal (Package 4 for Package 1 price which shows just how much his profit margins are and probably the state of his equipment if he isn't spending anything on his company). We emailed his at home email address to schedule a time to preview his work and see how he DJ's and see if he's a fit. "Suzie", and this is in quotes because there is no way to confirm it was Suzie and not Ken being an asshole, keeps pushing back saying "Oh Oscar isn't in this week" and then "Oh Oscar will be out of town for 4 weeks he works for Mercedez Benz" So I get involved and well... you can see the rest for yourself. We hired Ken for our wedding in October. We met with him in January and he verified that he would be the DJ at our wedding. After months of no communication with the company, they finally responded to our emails only 3-4 days before the wedding. The email address is strange because it appears to be a personal email address and then any number of people could be responding through that email address. Come our wedding day, Ken was not there. He sent a different DJ, Mike. Mike did not have all of the details that we previously provided. Additionally, the microphone was cutting out during the ceremony and the guests were complaining. He also fought with my photographer about the schedule and rushed us during our cocktail hour to hurry up and do the grand entrance. There were many times that we started running behind and I repeatedly (on my wedding day) had to go up to him and remind him to stick to the schedule. That is not something that a bride should have to deal with, especially when I provided the photographer, the venue, and the DJ the same schedule and timeline. After the wedding, we contacted the DJ company requesting an explanation as to why the DJ we hired (Ken) was not there. We received email responses slandering my mother, mother-in-law, and myself. They repeatedly called us liars saying that the issues we had were all lies. They even had a DJ contracted with the same company (Dennis) email my mother-in-law saying that mother was a liar. Ken and Oscar were the DJ/MCs for our wedding ceremony and reception in September 2015. We must say we are extremely impressed and happy with how everything turned out. They were very professional and had expertise at throwing and directing a party. They were extremely on point, both the day of and before. They were extremely accommodating and friendly - even with our last minute changes. Not to mention, it was a very reasonably-priced package that included music, MC, a slideshow and uplighting, as well as audio equipment for the ceremony. We really appreciated how they went above and beyond to make things work. My MIL had put together a slideshow, but exported it as a wrong file. Ken and Oscar were able to get it to work. Oscar did a great job at reading the crowd and playing the right music to fit the mood, and playing a mix of oldies/classical and modern hits. Was referred to Ken/Mike by my venue Castle Catering (The Romanesque Room) who works with them quite frequently. Met up with Ken, who has a wicked Scottish accent, and he gave me the details. The price was right, so we booked MES soon after. A few days before the wedding I filled out a wedding cheat sheet via their website, with the reception details. The online form was clunky (I recommend typing it out in a separate document first and then pasting it in), but I filled out as many details as possible, including the phonetic spellings of people's names, time schedule, as well as a huge list of songs that needed to be played during the reception. As the wedding day approached I was a little worried, because after I submitted the initial wedding cheat sheet, I only got a "Thank you", which is fine, but no questions? I was also told that the multi-color up-lights were giving them problems so we were stuck with "1" color, which was a little disappointing, but it worked out okay. The day of, Mike was our DJ for the reception, and he did a pretty good job. He was nice and accommodating, he did what we needed him to do, played our songs, followed our directions and cues. read more

We hired them for DJ services for a birthday party at a venue in Arcadia, which the hotel recommended and used in the past. The party started at 5pm and they weren't even ready to play yet. The DJ never even introduced himself and hardly spoke but a few words, barely interacting with the croud. Trying to have him introduce or announce anything was like we were bothering him. He only had a play list that we provided and if there was a request, he said that he would have to look it up, find it and download it before he could play the song. My 8 year old niece could have done his job better. I'm sorry we took the recommendation of the hotel and hired them. We will never recommend them to anyone. read more

If I can give a negative star, I'd like to do that. I went to the Castaway bridal show in March, 2018 and met Ken from MES DJ. Ken had a booth and also led the bride and groom fashion show at the event. He was professional, confident, and friendly. I like the fact that MES DJ was one of the preferred vendor list from the Castaway Burbank. I asked Ken in person and also in the email to be the DJ/MC on my wedding and also put that in the contract after reading negative reviews about the other DJ/MC in the same company. He agreed and put that in the contract. I confirmed it again over the phone a few days before my wedding and he told me that he will be coming with his assistant, Mark. On the day of my wedding, Ken left after our ceremony without informing me and my husband. A new DJ/MC (Oscar), who we never met or discussed our wedding together, took over the job without explaining the situation and introducing himself. When we asked him where Ken was and Oscar said Ken left something important and will be right back. However, Ken did not come back. My husband and I called him multiple times during and after our wedding but we did not receive a single email or call from him for explanation. I emailed Ken after my wedding for explantation. Instead of Ken, Suzie, the manager of MES, replied. She stated that the disorganization and unpreparedness of the MC/DJ was because of my poor design of the floor plan. FYI the floor plan was designed and approved by the sales manager from the Castaway. Suzie stated that my wedding was "perfect" but I am twisting the facts and I should not complain because I received a discount. I did not receive a single apology. The last email I received stated that she will forward the emails to their lawyers. What??? Are their lawyers in charge of customer service? It has been two months and I have not heard anything back from their LAWYERS. MES DJ has no idea about customer service and integrity and they made the situation even worse. I understand sometimes unexpected things can happen. A proper way to handle such situation is to first apology, explain the situation, and inform the clients so the clients and the new DJ/MC can communicate and plan accordingly. MES DJ did not explain the situation and never apology for the inconvenience. Instead, they claimed that everything I requested was completed and my wedding was PERFECT but I am twisting the facts. I hope Castaway does not continue doing any business with MES DJ and take out MES DJ from the preferred vendor list. read more

My husband and I got married in November and were recommended Ken and his company by the owner of the venue we had the ceremony at. On meeting him, I was struck by how incredibly nice he was and how easy he made everything sound. I was a little wary about it as his prices were lower than anyone else in town and frankly, he sounded a little too good to be true. However, he was true to his word and on the day of our wedding, everything went incredibly smooth. He kept people dancing until the venue gently kicked us out. We had previously seen Ken DJ at a friend's wedding where my then girlfriend (wife now) was a bridesmaid. We had so much fun that night thanks to Ken (I even caught the garter) that when time came for us to plan our wedding we just had to get him. We decided to go with him because his prices were so affordable and included uplighting, multiple sound setups, gobo lights, two projectors + screen, and his incredible personality. I do NOT recommend this DJ Service at all. We hired Ken to do our event, and even had participants from out of state come to meet with him. We verified 5 different times that he would be doing our event, I met with him at a bridal show where he confirmed he would be our DJ, we even confirmed two days before the wedding that he was doing our event. We did not find out until right before the wedding the ceremony, while our guests were arriving and in a position not to be able to make any calls, that Ken wasn't coming. No reason, no apology, nothing. Let me add, that Ken never attempted to make a phone call to us. The person Ken sent, Mike, was not organized, and had no lists of anyone's names, we had to spend 15 minutes standing in the hall so he can write everyone's names down before we did our entrance. The bride had to keep reminding Mike to keep things moving along. When we went back to Ken after the event regarding this issue, instead of an apology, or an excuse or reason, or anything, he tried to make us, the people paying him, to be wrong. He also said we are lying. Do not wast your money on this DJ - I wish I could give them a "0"` If you are thinking about doing your wedding or any event, I assume it is a very important day in your life and why would you want the DJ you hire not to show up? again, this is a waste of money and Ken should be ashamed of trying to wrong other people for him not showing up. read more

I used MES because The Odyssey recommended him. Ken was great to work with but the day of my wedding 10/5/13 his assistant Dan showed up. At first I thought nothing about it. Ceremony went fine but after talking to friend apparently he was playing music during the actually ceremony (during the actually speaking part of it) and they had a hard time hearing. FYI we had a smaller wedding only 70 people. Then came the reception.... for the entries my bridal party had a whole thing planned except he didn't brother starting the song until two couples were already out on the dance floor. SO the entry didn't make sense and then when we were announced to enter the room he didn't plan the song we picked up out until we were already on the dance floor and ready for our first dance. Dan got flustered very quickly and it was very obvious to all my guest. We had said no married couples dance and he did it anyways. If a song was requested it took 1-3 hrs to get it played. He played lots of 80's music for the first hr or so and everyone was very confused by it. Some of my family members were at their table talking to each other about the music being played and he butted in to their convo to say he was just playing stuff that was requested. then later my bridesman went to request a song and was told no he couldn't because Dan was bad by all the requests that he had. like really wtf! I (the bride) requested 1 artist only and it took an hr to get it played and then he didn't even play the dance song by that artist. All young dancing songs didn't get play until about 11pm after a lot of people had left. Another bridesmaid requested a song and he played the wrong one completely. It looked like he was using CD's instead of a of an electronic mp3 player or computer or itunes. Either way Dan was a hot mess and that's not even including the slide show that kept shutting off. I called and spoke to Ken the Monday after so he knew that Dan didn't do a good job and he said he would speak to him about it. Never heard back from them and they cashed the ck. I regret even giving Dan a tip but since i prepackaged the tips I didn't have a chance to change it. My paperwork was very simple nothing complicated and i only had 7 must play artist on my list and probably only 3 or 4 of the artist tops. I really did like Ken but I wish he would have sent someone else. Would not recommended unless your trying to hit your minimum at your venue. read more

My first mistake was not reading the negative Yelp reviews for Music Entertainment Services "DJ KEN" and my second mistake was hiring "DJ KEN"!!! A huge mistake. Ken did not play any of the songs we asked him to, isn't that his job? You'd think so. Ken ruined our video slide show as it stopped to buffer several times, killing the entire mood of it. Ken LIED to us several times. Ken FAILED to read some very special dedications and LIED about it. I have the whole wedding recorded so it's not hard to miss. Kens response to all of our complaints was to tell me to "stop bothering him and that he can't do anything to help us" & "Sue Me" in a condescending way and talks down to you. Only after he has all the money does this happen of course. This company has no integrity and Ken will say anything to get you to hire him but KEN WITH MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT SERVICES TOTALLY FAILS TO DELIVER.... I have to say I felt a little uneasy about MES at first. Their prices were unbeatable (WAY lower than anyone else, and offering WAY more), the website was under construction and didn't seem legitimate, and the contract seemed a little lacking compared to others (ei: nowhere to sign and return, only one page long, etc.). HOWEVER... Any concerns I had leading up to the day of the wedding quickly vanished when I saw Ken in action. Ken was an INCREDIBLE host! His charming Scottish accent will light up the room, and so will his super awesome cordless uplights and pin spots!! I couldn't believe how much was included with the cheapest package: there was no time limit (Ken offered to stay as long as we needed him), we got 25 pin spots (and didn't even need to use them all), almost everything was cordless (so no tripping over wires), and you can pick any color you want for the uplights (you're not limited to simple pre-set color options)! Although his emails were fairly short, and to-the-point, Ken did not disappoint! He remembered every tiny request I mentioned throughout the months leading up to the wedding and kept all song requests organized and ready to go! He was even able to make CD's of songs I found on YouTube by just sending him the link! He is super laid back, and VERY trustworthy! Most DJ's require a thorough contract and huge deposit, but Ken just gave his word that he would be there; there was no need for deposits or anything. This worries me at first, but I can assure you his word is as good as any contract/deposit! You don't need to pay a cent until the day of the wedding (which is essentially what we did). I HIGHLY recommend MES DJ's to anyone for any occasion! Especially Ken! He made my wedding night UNFORGETTABLE, and I cannot thank him enough! read more

I was referred to mes djs, specifically ken, from one of their previous customers. I reserved ken 11 months prior to my wedding, and called last week to schedule a meeting with him next week to go over the details. However, I just received an email from Ken stating that he will be canceling our meeting next week, and will not be able to do my wedding as he will be out of town. I received a call from the customer who referred me to Ken, they told me that there was a dispute over a recent event Ken hosted with them. As a result, Ken stated he would no longer be doing business with them and would no longer be doing my wedding. The fact that Ken would allow a personal dispute to interfere with his professional commitments, shows how unprofessional Ken and his company are. I planned our wedding from across the country and was constantly emailing various vendors. When I emailed Ken, he responded literally within minutes almost every time. Not only did he answer my questions and accommodate the many last minute changes that I made, he also reviewed our timeline for the reception with me, and during the actual reception, he made sure that the program was moving forward according to our timeline. Two of the highlights of the reception were his suggestions - my husband and I played "the shoe game," and we also had a "married couples' dance." Many of our guests told us that they really enjoyed both of these parts of our program, and some of the best photos from our wedding came during "the shoe game" when our guests were visibly laughing aloud and enjoying themselves. Ken also went over the various lighting options with me in great detail, as that was very important to me, and the lighting came out beautifully. He played all the songs that we had requested and none that we requested he didn't play! There was an issue with our slideshow (not due to him), and he was able to remedy it within a few minutes and play the slideshow in its entirety. He was entirely professional throughout the very long process of wedding planning (as an aside, I had not considered this before the wedding, but when I saw Ken at the reception, he was wearing a suit, which I definitely appreciated! Ken saved my wedding and I am eternally grateful! I booked him a week before the event, due to a DJ catastrophe...he arrived 2.5 hours early (thank goodness), so I was able to literally point and be like "here's an outlet, here's where the ceremony is, I've gotta get ready thanks bye!" More than happy with the services provided by Ken from Music Entertainment Services. Ken was personable and easy to work with throughout the planning process. After searching high and low for a reasonably priced DJ, for our wedding, we miraculously found MES-DJs. We contacted Ken via email and set up a face to face meeting where Ken explained his business philosophy to us and how his services worked. Ken even went over in detail how their online itinerary worked, which is super easy and convenient and that was that. No deposit was required to hold our date, I don't know if that is protocol for MES so don't quote me, however it was much appreciated. Throughout the planning process Ken was always responsive and had no problems coordinating with our other vendors. As for the Big Day, Ken arrived promptly and was set up within minutes. All of our songs choices for: ceremony processional, first dance, cake cutting etc. were executed as requested. MES even provided microphone and mic stand for officiant. Ken happily played requests from our guests at reception and kept the party going with great music selection. This review is for Ken Lyle of Music Entertainment Services. We hired Ken to do 5 hours of music for our wedding. The wedding was on a Tuesday, in the off season, and at one of his preferred vendors, so he was able to match our budget of $500. Ken came to our house and discussed the services and was very friendly. We decided to hire him and boy did we make the right decision! All the guests raved about him and how much fun our wedding was! He didn't just play music, he DJ'ed games, made announcements, and managed the toasts. We left a lot of the reception music up to him, and he played lots of fun songs so everyone was dancing! He came early and played music for guests as they arrived, without extra charge. He played all the songs we requested, no matter how obscure. There was no mistakes and his 'scottish' accent made it all the more fun! We got many compliments on him and would recommend him to anyone! My husband and I got married last Saturday and Ken was our DJ. We met with him more than 6 months before the wedding and then again last month. I also emailed him many times with details and changes. He was extremely gracious about all of our desires and preferences. He showed up early and stayed extremely late! He was professional and courteous. We gave him song lists and pretty specific ideas about the kind of music we wanted and he went above and beyond to make sure we got exactly what we asked for. On Friday May 13th we held our Junior / Senior Prom at the Odyssey Restaurant in Granada Hills. As we are a small budget-conscious school, we chose to forgo using a prom planning company, and planned the entire event ourselves. Part of that process involved choosing vendors for our musical and entertainment options for the evening. For the music option we decided it would be easier to use a DJ from the Odyssey "Approved Vendor" list, since we had limited time to research different people, and chose one used by the event planners, Music Entertainment Services. I provided the company with a list of approved songs, even including an additional 100 songs that would be acceptable to play by school standards. According to my colleague, their response was "You just made our job much easier." or something to that affect. These lists were provided a week in advance of our event. Further, it was clearly stated and it was emphasized that we didn't want any "inappropriate" music. Clearly they either lack the moral character to do the right and proper thing, or they misunderstand the distinction between "appropriate" and "inappropriate" for adults and kids. More than six songs were played that we had deemed inappropriate and that we did not approve of. In doing so, they placed us in a potentially detrimental position, opening us up to complaints by parents. Further, they diminished the progress we had made with our student population in distinguishing between the two. While the lighting and sound was good, we were treated to "Uptown Funk" by Bruno Mars three times, "One Dance" by Drake three times, and "Cake By the Ocean" twice. Several times throughout the night the music stopped in between songs with no mixing, and other times the mix was so bad one song completely overpowered the other. There was even a time the mix and musical choice was so bad, the students cleared the entire dance floor. Usually DJ's pack the dancefloor; they managed to do the complete opposite. I'm sure I could have done a better job by simply creating a playlist and using that. While much of today's music doesn't carry the message we want to share with our students, there is still plenty of good, danceable music that doesn't blatantly mention casual sex, body parts usually genitals or buttocks, getting high, popping pills, getting drunk, or use inappropriate words. My suggestion for you, perhaps you could add some of those songs to your repertoire before playing music which you could play for some adults, but never for children. When your audience is under the age of 18, you must be very vigilant to not include these types of songs. There is a world of difference between high school and college or otherwise. Perhaps they should stick with over-18 audiences and not do any events that include people under the age of 18. It is quite evident they haven't a clue as to what most parents would allow their children to listen to. I am absolutely and thoroughly disappointed in having chosen this company for our event. They claim to be a professional DJ yet they didn't honor the wishes or desires of their clients, in fact they went against everything their client requested. Had the payment not been made already, we would be withholding payment for breaking the contract we had about hiring the company to play acceptable and "appropriate" music. They clearly did not uphold and fulfill their responsibilities, they did not honor their end of the agreement which was to have "appropriate" music, and it is questionable as to whether or not they actually do know the difference between "acceptable" and "unacceptable". For future reference, the customer is always right. Why this company chose to go against their customers request is beyond me.
