I am a bbq snob. I am known to travel far distances just for a hole-in-the-wall bbq spot. Now, for me, the secret to good bbq is the quality of the meat, the flavor of the meat, and the sauce. For me, Music Man BBQ exceeds all three of these. Their style is pulled using only the highest quality parts (so many places' "chopped" style throw all parts in and chop it up and serve it to you full of gristle and fatty parts). The flavor of the meat is extremely flavorful and the sauce only compliments this flavor. Now, they offer two sauces: a mustard base and a vinegar base. GET THE VINEGAR!! it is by far, THE BEST bbq sauce I have tried in my twenty-something life. The vinegar sauce is truly amazing!! The desserts are very good; try both: the banana pudding and orea pudding. The atmosphere is simple: very casual, family oriented, small town home feel. The order style is buffet but there is a menu too. It is a family owned business started by a Moncks Corner resident who is in a band (Customs 4 & Friends), hence the name "Music Man BBQ." It was good! The hash definitely wasn't made with leftover meats. I didn't care for the onions in the hash but that's personal preference. People were some of the most genuinely friendly I've come across. read more

What can you say about a Monck's Corner staple. We.were so glad to see them back after the fire, however the place they are renting until they rebuild is very small and seats very few. The buffet is still in place however the wait staff has or fill your plates. The wait staff were very overwhelmed with orders and the line was out the door. We were passing through on the way to Mepkin Abbey and were recommended to go to the local steakhouse, but they were packed. This place is located next store and not busy, so we went. Walking in, the place was dingy and it did not improve from there. The buffet items offered went between greasy, bland and warmed over. I was at this restaurant Thursday night. We were encouraged to dine from the buffet. The little boy in front of me scratched his belly under his shirt before serving himself. Later, a woman came in carrying her dog. I assume it was a service animal. TWICE she walked over to the buffet and carried the dog in her arms, walking back and forth looking at the food. This place has been recommended to me by more than one person. My wife and I were in Moncks Corner so we thought we would eat lunch here. The bbq was pretty good. I really liked the hash. The slaw tasted funny. We believe the banana pudding came from a can. Another reviewer spoke of the hostile attitude of the staff. Got there just after they opened so this shouldn't have happened. If we had known that they would serve you from the buffet; would have passed this place up. Everybody was so friendly and cheery at Music Man's that I wanted to like their food. Too bad it didn't work out. I hate giving low scores to locally owned and well-liked spots, but the bbq we ordered here during a weekend lunch was abysmal. We ordered a pound of pulled pork with mustard and we were shocked at how dry and flavorless it was despite the auto-add of mustard. It looked and tasted like leftover meat somebody had pounded into tuna salad (why anybody would treat meat this way, I don't know). We also ordered a pound of ribs; what we got was a gray brown rack of meat that had no bark and--surprise--also no flavor. The meat may have been tender but we couldn't detect that it had spent any time on a grill or near a smoker. Both meats needed a heavy application of the very thin vinegary and mustard based bbq sauces that came with our order--sadly, they still could not rescue it. We had higher hopes for their sides: the pink-tinged potato salad dusted with paprika was as bland and forgettable as the poor excuse for mac and cheese which looked like old pasta that somebody had half-heartedly tried to melt grated cheddar over. The bread pudding was the worst rendition I had ever tried; again so unpalatable and the mushy texture so offputting that I wished I hadn't ordered it. The overall theme of the meal we had at Music Man's seemed to be bland and unappetizing. I'm not sure if this is a direct result of the mass-produced buffet style of service that most bbq joints in Moncks Corner seems to serve up--since there are other local places that serve up better fare. This was the first time I had to throw away food without optioning it to the pups, and the first time bbq made me somewhat regret my carnivorous ways. read more

The long trip to Music man was worth it. Always happy to visit a buffet style joint that delivers fresh on the bar, even close to closing. Vinegar based and mustard based pulled pork were both moist and flavor was excellent. Vinegar was spicy! Mustard was a little watery and had a subtle sweetness. They don't have unsauced on the bar, so if you're not a fan of those 2 flavors, you might not have a great time here. The fried catfish alone was worth the visit. Sides: Mac and cheese was good, but my second trip had a slightly metallic taste on the shredded cheese topping. Overall good mac though. Sweet potatoes sliced in quarters were amazing. Just get them. Bread pudding was the best I've ever had. Other sides were good too, but I just ran out of room for them (not that I'm complaining). Desert was great. Banana pudding was crammed full of 'nanas and wafers. On the advice of the staff, I stacked it with the bread pudding and was NOT disappointed. read more

I am still making up for the four years I was out of the Carolinas and in Florida, so I still have not grown tired of BBQ. It is generally my first choice food category when I am travelling. I found Music Man, which would have been impossible before the Yelp and GPS days. When I got there at 12 on the dot, there was very limited parking outside, which usually means the place is pretty good. This was no sloucher. I am not necessarily a germ-a-phobe, but I am very germ conscious. Buffets are probably one of the grosser places on the planet, but I am a sucker for them. I take it as a personal challenge to make these places lose money when I enter. I swear I have no idea how these places make money. I KNOW I get my money's worth, and judging by some of the clientele at these places, I know there are others who do as well. Typical BBQ buffet food was here, with two exceptions: no fried chicken and no mashed potatoes. They had some grilled chicken but no potatoes of any kind. All of the food was pretty good. The fried fish and the chicken were the best. There was a mustard based bbq and a vinegar based bbq on the buffet, both of which were overly sweet and average tasting. The banana pudding was okay and the tea was tasty. It was a little pricey at around $11, (maybe that is how they make their money), but I would come back. read more

Should be called music man's buffet. Their website eludes to them selling BBQ however they have a buffet. Ribs are only sold on Saturday nights. Friday is fried chicken. There is also what appears to be baked chicken certainly not BBQ. They have pulled pork in big trays. "Slow cooked whole hog...plus best catfish stew?" They had neither. If you want to eat a ton of the same food it's the place for you. If you actually want BBQ keep looking. 12/26/14 - since I posted this review I have been getting very odd "compliments" all of which I have declined. The green beans were perfect, the Mac n cheese was a fave with my kids and the coleslaw was good (a bit sweeter than I'm used to, but very good!)
