Grilled Cheese and Pesto and marinara sauce

Must Be Heaven has such a charming soda‑shop vibe that makes you feel welcome the moment you walk in. The space is bright, nostalgic, and spotless -- including the bathrooms, which were impressively clean. The staff were warm and attentive, adding to the relaxed, hometown feel. One of the highlights for me was the sweet tea. It's surprisingly hard to find a place that gets it right, but theirs was perfectly balanced and genuinely refreshing. I also appreciated seeing several vegan options on the menu -- a thoughtful touch that makes the place accessible to more people. Overall, Must Be Heaven delivers comfort, friendliness, and quality in a way that feels effortless. A great stop for anyone looking for good food, good tea, and a welcoming atmosphere.

Glad I stop in for a Rueben and bowl of broccoli and cheese soup. Everything was done right. The quick counter service was a great touch with a vintage atmosphere. Will be back!

Every time I come back to Texas - even after years of living elsewhere--there's one place in Brenham I always return to. Must Be Heaven isn't just a café; it's the benchmark that shaped how I understand a proper Reuben. The Reuben here stays true to the classic: corned beef that's tender without being greasy, sauerkraut that's well-drained and naturally tangy, Swiss melted just enough, and rye toasted to the right structure. No soggy bottom, no runaway dressing, no shortcuts. It's that "dry and clean" Reuben philosophy you also see at the classic delis in New York and the historic spots in San Francisco--where every bite is beef + kraut + rye first. Must Be Heaven absolutely belongs in that same tradition. The Italian Wedding Soup is the companion I never skip. Clear broth, tiny pasta, fresh vegetables, and those small meatballs that still taste like someone formed them by hand. It's the kind of quiet, honest comfort a lot of big-city delis have forgotten. My friends went for the chicken salad sandwich and the French dip, and by the end of the meal--even these Californian palates--were already talking about when we'd drive back for another round. That says a lot about a small-town Texas shop. And of course, the pies. The coconut cream pie is classic Texas café style: a generous slice, unapologetically creamy, on a crust that actually holds. If I'd had even a little more room, I would've ordered a slice of pecan pie too. This is the kind of place where getting a second slice isn't an indulgence - it's tradition. I've eaten Reubens all over the U.S., from New York to San Francisco. Many of them are excellent in their own way. But the one I measure everything else against still lives right here in Brenham. - Dr. C Only writing for what truly earns the stars.

Neat little family run establishment. Great sandwich's and the cheddar broccoli is well above average. Excellent value. Parking is on street and they can be crazy busy at lunch.

Half a avocado sprouts sandwich, salad and half an avocado.

I love this spot. The food was delicious. We got sandwiches, soups, salads and sides. We did have to ask how to order because we've never been and it wasn't immediately obvious that you walk around the counter to the other side of the restaurant, grab a menu from the side of the booth as you go and there's another counter in the back that you place your order at. They have plenty of sugar free drink options too.

A good place to eat pies. It is a place that has an old time feel to it. It's a place if your in brenham Texas, this is a place to come

Must stop place in town if you are visiting or passing through. Their sandwiches are sooo delicious. I got the monte cristo and enjoyed the flavor and jelly. My kids got kids meals which came in cute little takeaway boxes that we saved for future picnic use. We didn't get to try their sweet treats this past visit but I hear raving reviews. There can be a lunch rush for this place with the line almost out the door but they are quick to serve your food once you order at the kiosk. I know I'll stop here again the next time we pass through town!

Great me u lots of choices my wife and I both got the French dip - massive - we could have split! The pies look incredible- maybe next time!

Chicken Salad in an avocado half, broccoli cheese soup, and coconut cream pie every

A favorite stop, as good as ever. Instead of the number 1 combo, I'm now getting the number two combo. The chicken salad in the avocado half is divine (and plentiful). I got soup, but sometimes I get the Caesar salad. Of course, I get Coconut Cream pie every time. Service is quick, and if there's a line, the wait isn't too bad.

Did they just give us a USED spoon!? Ew.

I am baffled by the fact that this place has any good reviews. It's obviously a small family business so I feel genuinely bad rating it this low but I feel nauseous thinking about the food we received. I ordered the Pastrami & Swiss (1/2 sandwich). It was TINY. The bread was thin and limp (not toasted) and could barely hold the meat. The meat (I gag as I write this) was rubbery and cold (it was supposed to be a hot sandwich per the menu). I could have found better pastrami pre-packaged at the grocery store. I've had such delicious pastrami sandwiches at multiple delis/sandwich shops so this was shockingly bad, very possibly the worst pastrami sandwich I've ever been served. Also tried the broccoli cheddar soup -- tasted like strong artificial cheese. Finally, we tried a cookie -- undercooked. We were hungry and late for an appointment so we choked down what we could but this was an extremely unpleasant meal. Finally, as if the barely edible food wasn't bad enough, we received a USED spoon. I'm including a photo. It had stains on it! YUCK. Luckily, I had an extra plastic spoon in my car. If this is heaven, I'll stick to hell, thank you very much.

    Broccoli salad- excellent
    Jennifer H.

Good choice if you are coming through town. It is counter service sandwiches and soups with homemade desserts. Their broccoli salad is excellent. If I were to go back I would choose a cold sandwich. I got the Ruben and they microwaved the meat and cheese before placing it on the sandwich. This made the texture very rubbery. The bread was great. I just would go with something cold.

It gives everything a cozy, charming feel with a lot of character. Parking, though, can be tricky. It's limited, and if you're wearing heels, the rocky ground and steep hill can make it a bit of a challenge when the lot fills up. We had reservations but arrived a little early, and they were able to seat us without an issue. Service was solid overall. The staff was quick to let us know what items were unavailable, which helped with decision-making. I did notice a dish being served that wasn't on the menu, and when I asked about it, we found out it was a seafood and noodle special. Two of us decided to try it. For food, we started with the sautéed garlic ricotta appetizer, which was a standout. It had a really nice balance of mild sweetness and savory flavor. The eggplant parmesan was huge and easily shareable between two people, with great flavor throughout. Honestly, most of the portions felt big enough to split. I ordered the seafood special, and while the flavor was decent, the shrimp were consistently overcooked and chewy, which made it hard to enjoy. The mussels were the highlight of the dish, though they reminded me of the frozen kind you can heat up at home. Overall, it was an okay experience. Not somewhere I'd go out of my way to recommend, but if it were the only option in town, I'd consider going back.

We got a quiche, the Blue Bayou, the Millennial Falcon, and two different coffees. Obviously the important thing is parking which was easy on a Sunday morning because really where is everybody in central Texas at that time during the week? Place was HUGE but comfortable at the same time. They had a corner with games and toys for families and kids. The spice section had delicious flavored sugars that we didn't get because our four year old was ready to go. Breakfast was the perfect size. Sometimes you expect a really large portion then feel disgusting but the amount they gave was just right. They all came with a side of fruit and yogurt. Coffee was a little sweet and less coffee than flavor but that's okay because we were expecting that. The German chocolate coffee drink is the way to go. Overall a good experience.

All were a great portion size and very good. I wasn't leaving without trying the tea. The tea selection is out of this world. I could have stayed here the entire day trying all of them out. I ended up selecting one of the specials, the pineapple, which was a mix of pineapple, apple and pear. It was refreshing and not too sweet - as the owner said, "it won't be McDonalds sweet".
