I didn't have any children with me, and I didn't see any children or families while I was at Mustang Lounge, so I'm thinking this place is more geared toward adults. It's a lounge and tavern! Those words, and kids, do not usually go together. But looking at the food menu, it's pretty appealing to all ages, so I'm sure kids are not turned away. I didn't get any food when I visited Mustang Lounge, just drinks. I almost never get a cocktail because they're usually too sweet, but I got some sort of citrus and honey cocktail, the name of which escapes me. It was really good! We also got a beer, and the beer was served in a cold, frosty glass. They have a lot of beer options here. Mustang Lounge is quiet and intimate -- a nice place to get a drink and relax for a while. read more

Honestly had the most delicious ginger carrot soup (daily special) and a terrific spinach chèvre salad with cherries and a champagne vinaigrette. Our waiter was so on top of it, seating, covering our table, making sure everyone was happy. Ok this is a side street place so automatically it gets some credit. Locals come here too. The signature drink is called the "mustang punch" reminds of siping vacation through a straw a must try. This is our favorite app and drink place on the island. The wings and sauces are awesome. The duck wantons are not enough so order a double (totally worth it!!) . The cheese curds are killer! Service is friendly and fast with a positive attitude. They are Law Enforcement friendly and military friendly. It's an old feel. Check the rafters for your communities law enforcement patch and or your military patch. There is a military and Leo discount so show your pride! This is also one of the oldest building in Michigan dating back to 1780. Super cool wood. Don't forget the merch while your here. An establishment that is in the running for the longest ran tavern in the state, it has quite the history inside those doors. Incredible duck bacon wontons with some cream cheese in the middle. Huge portion for the money. Enough for a meal for 1 person or an appetizer for 2. The sauce is also legit. Not sure if it comes prepackaged or not, but I don't care. It was one of the better things I had on the island! Bartenders were also pretty cool! Let me start off by saying the rib dinner special and cocktails were made quite well. But the server here was absolutely abysmal. The tall dude with the nasty look on his face and bad attitude doesn't belong doing this job. My brother told me it was the same when he visited the island a month before. We had long waits between checkups. To the point where we couldn't get to the drinks we wanted. They were not packed to the max either. It seemed like they were more focused on what seemed like regulars or locals. I asked this guy on two different occasions for water aside from the mixed drinks. The second time I made sure he was looking at me and he acknowledged the request with his angry face. I got nothing. It wasn't until a second server came by that I got a water after asking her. She wasn't much of a sparkling personality either. I was also drinking expensive cocktails with liquor upgrades so it's not as if I was just ordering waters. The bill was almost $160. I've been in the public service industry for 20 years. Have been in management for over a decade. This guy has no business doing this job. He even had short crappy responses to my 75 year old mother when she tried to be upbeat about asking him something in an extra polite fashion. She was shocked by the end of our meal. She actually walked up to the bar to get her bill instead of waiting who knows how long. Still leaving a 20% tip for someone that deserved nothing. Usually the tips are closer to 25-30 percent. This employee wrecked the comfort of this place. My guess is that it's hard to find good service in a tourist trap that's hardly open for the new warm season. This is the last place I would visit going to the island as long as I see that guys face. All I can see now is a speed bag. And I don't want to feel that way while trying to enjoy a family trip. read more

It's a cute quaint place, dive bar vibes. I ordered the black bean burger and tots. My husband got the chicken bacon jalapeño popper sandwich, fries and their IPA. The beer was COLD! Their playlist was fantastic! My husband thought maybe his synced to their speaker, . The server informed us during our meal that their internet went out so they were not accepting credit cards. This was our first restaurant stop on Mackinac Island, and I got the Whitefish spread on Naan and my girlfriend got the BBQ sandwich. Both were delicious, and I wanted to lick the bowl on the Whitefish spread. The price was reasonable, and our server was very nice and efficient. She made the recommendations, and she was dead on. Got there around 11 AM and we were seated right away. All of the staff were very friendly. The Mackinaw sandwich with ham, salami, and an olive spread was super good. The pulled pork sandwich was a little bland. Both of our drinks were very good as well. Really neat decorations inside the bar, ranging from deer to motorcycle patches. read more

I never share reviews but this one deserves one for how bad this experience was overall as a whole. First and foremost DONT WASTE YOUR TIME HERE. "Most historical tavern" probably and let me tell you the personalities working here sure go with this. Being a person from Pittsburgh, my friends and I Iove looking for those legendary spots. The places where you're out of town, walk into and unintentionally end up meeting an everyday regular who can give you 4 other spots in .2 seconds. This place, 1000% is NOT it. The bartenders were so rude. The crowd is unpredictable overall everyone that works here and was dining just overall Not nice, judgementsl, and just a had experience in general. Such a cool vibe. Love stopping by the Mustang Lounge when I'm visiting Mackinac Island. When I walk in the first thing I notice is the wood. Just looks like years of history there. So pretty. We came there on a busy weekend, so we went outside to wait. No biggie... If you're coming to Mackinac, everything is busy and that's the norm. After a short wait, we were seated at the back of the restaurant. The restaurant does a great job of following Covid protocols and even had us enter the restaurant from a side door since it was closer to our table. If you love bar food, this is your place. I LOVED my rueben. My mom loved her fish and chips and my hubby loved his Swiss mushroom burger. Soooo freaking yummy. My mom and I paired our food with a rum runner and Moscow mules. Oru visit was on a busy Saturday for an early dinner, or late lunch. Seven adults and two children. We were seated pretty quickly. Our server wasn't wearing a mask. The guy seating people was and other servers were, but the bartender and our server wasn't. The tables were not separated. There were tables right next to us on all sides. Some of us got the Mustang punch. It was so tasty, we had to get the ingredients to make it again at our campsites. I ordered a bowl of chili and the cauliflower bites. The chilis was excellent, with bites of brisket, topped with onion and cheese. It was hearty and tasty. The bites were good too, but I would request the sauce on the side next time. Just off the main strip on a side street. They have a small outdoor seating area. Very small place. Social distancing wasn't really possible. Thankfully two bathrooms were available. read more

Stayed on the island with some girl friends and came here because it was off the main stretch and not as busy. Marty immediately brought us drink menus just as I was taking drink orders from my friends before heading up. He was absolutely fantastic! He was a great bartender, and just real chill. There were women at the next table that were so drunk that they left untouched drinks at the bar and had spilled a drink all over the table, floor, herself and chair and shortly after left. Marty handled it with such ease. We ordered chicken nachos and devoured them. They were so good!!! We enjoyed everything about this bar. read more

One of only a few restaurants open during the off season. I got the Dagwood. Trust me, you won't eat for the rest of the day of your finish it. Spent the day on the island and decided to grab a bite to eat before catching the ferry back to the mainland. Since this was really the only thing open, I didn't have high expectations.....but I ate EVERY BITE. I wasn't even hungry! The order of meatballs was so big, my brother couldn't even finish them all. My fish & chips were perfectly cooked. The fries were nice and crispy with a seasoned salt on them. Not sure if the tarter sauce was homemade, but it didn't taste like jar sauce. Upon arriving, super disappointed to find out that the menu changed for the 2022 year. We came for their awesome spinach artichoke dip... Sad to find out that its been taken off the menu. Husband ordered an Old Fashioned, which was made using side water - not pleasant. We took a chance and ordered the hummus appetizer... also not pleasant. Tasted super watery and somehow... fizzy. A super random but accurate description. The kid's menu burger was simply a flat frozen patty. Edible for a hungry kid but wouldn't order again. We dined here for dinner in early September and enjoyed our food, the pet friendly deck and our wonderful server. I ordered the whitefish dinner with mashed potatoes and vegetable. My daughter ordered the broccoli cheese bites, but the menu didn't mention there's bacon inside and she doesn't eat meat. A nice selection of beer and cocktails and a great place to sit and watch the activity on the streets. My family, furry family included, enjoyed the Mustang very much and we would definitely return. read more

We are on the island for 2 days in the dead of winter (bucket list to explore the island when it is snow covered and quiet). This is the only restaurant open on the island during winter, so our worry was that if it sucks, we are up a creek. Fortunately, Mustang Lounge was great! Between my wife and I, and our good friends from Michigan traveling with us, we ate over two days: Boomin Cauliflower (yummy and mildly spicy), pretzel bit nachos (fine), buffalo chicken dip (creamy and flavorful), black bean burger (loved the black bean patty....yum), breakfast burger (perfect way to start the morning), bacon chicken jalapeño sandwich (super wow...epic flavors), Mustang Ruben (as good as they come), roasted red pepper Alfredo (fantastic sauce, great past dish). So yep, we had a large variety of the food and can attest that it was all very yummy and clearly of higher quality fresh ingredients. The servers were all friendly and attentive and the vibe here is casual and comfortable (we were probably the only tourists here this time of year...the rest of the patrons were surely locals)....but we felt totally at home and not an outsider. Mustang Lounge may be the only restaurant open during winter, but in our opinion, it is all you need! read more

Dining during memorial day weekend. Server was extremely rude. Most staff had an attitude when having to deal with large amount of customers, which should be expected during this busy weekend. Being a 6 top there was an automatic 20% gratuity for our table which would normally be okay but with the lack of attention and behavior of staff, the 20% was certainly not earned. read more

Dinner here was a big mistake :( Food was awful. Our 4 year old twins split a a $16 grilled cheese, they charged us $4 because they were splitting it. $5 charge to use a card. Skip this place! Go somewhere with a view like Mission Point or Pink Pony, we had great dinner there for the same price and we had 3 extra drinks. read more

I've never been treated so poorly by a bartender in my life. We walked into a DEAD bar that had maybe 3 patrons on a Saturday night. We walked in with a group of 13 in celebration of a 21st birthday. This bartender, an ungroomed red head, was so incredibly rude to every member of the group. A member of the group asked for a beer while others were ordering and the bartender said "I'm not worried about you or any of you." It was the worst experience I've ever had in my life. I will never be back to this crap hole of a lounge. We left full drinks on the table. ***update**** The bartender was rude from the moment we walked in to the moment I left my full Miller Lite on the bar because we were treated so poorly. Treat patrons with respect and they'll do the same. Don't want to serve people? Ask them to leave. Not rocket science. Unfortunately, I had a good experience with this bartender the day before and it was my idea to go back. While some reacted poorly, others gladly left and moved on. There's a lot of dining options on the island and Mustang Lounge happened to be the most convenient for us. The service was excellent and the food was OK. They were out of a lot of stuff but there was still a large selection to choose from. It was fairly cramped inside, but space is short on the island. It was hard for my kids to wait for food while listening to loud cursing from other customers at the bar behind them. Overall, we were thankful just to find a place to sit for awhile and drink a beer while our kids ate. The service was good, beer was cold, and the food was ok. read more
