After a strenuous morning of walking and shopping, we decided to have lunch and selected the Carriage House. We were seated with a great view of the docks, where you could see all the ferry boats delivering new visitors to the island. The French onion soup was OUTSTANDING! We ordered the white fish sandwich on focaccia bread and the Greek salad. The white fish sandwich was a disappointment, the focaccia was cold and I feel it would've been better toasted, the fish itself didn't look fresh or appealing really and lacked in flavor overall. The side dish with that was a carrot slaw of some kind with a ton of raisins, not crazy about that, dry bland and too sweet for the dish in my opinion. The Greek salad was fantastic, jam packed with fresh lettuce veggies and very filling. The mocktail was refreshing. Went for brunch and dinner today. Past years we have loved their brunch. I've always gotten their wagyu corned beef hash and loved it. This time not so much. Seemed dried out and less flavorful. The eggs were definitely overcooked. Hard yolks. Wife had their cinnamon swirl French toast. Seemed to have a lot less cinnamon than past years. It did come with a lot of good berries. Coffee in past years was good. What they served today wasn't. Think they changed to a cheaper roast. We had never done dinner there so tonight was the first. And last. My pork chop had good flavor but was overcooked to the point of being very dry. Our veggies were hardly blanched. Had a challenge to even cut through the carrots. Service for both was friendly. The setting is pretty with all the flowers they have out. We canceled our brunch reservation for two days out. read more

We stayed at the Hotel Iroquois (love!), and The Carriage House is the restaurant within the hotel. Breakfast is only open to overnight guests, but they open for lunch service at 11 a.m. and serve dinner, as well. I enjoyed our lunch both days. They have great NA drink options like the Beach Cruiser (cucumber + cranberry) or the Side Porch (berry lemonade + tea). The turkey pesto sandwich was phenomenal and filled me up the rest of the day! We also splurged and shared a hot fudge sundae. When in Mackinac... We also enjoyed dinner at CH to celebrate my parent's anniversary. While the goat cheese spinach salad was just okay in my opinion, the whitefish dinner with homemade tartar spot was fabulous and perhaps my favorite meal during this visit. read more

We dined on the enclosed patio which gave us a view of the bay and allowed us not to disturb other diners with a noisy toddler. Be warned - June is Mayfly season. We stopped by here before noon. The garden entry to the restaurant is accessible from the Main Street as well. The hotel staff at the Iroquois hotel told us the restaurant doesn't open back up until 5PM. Online it shows as open and another site shows it opens back up at 4PM. Which is it? We stayed at the hotel and had dinner at the Carriage House on our last night. It ended up being the best meal of our trip. We were seated at a cozy corner table by the windows and everything from start to finish was great. Wonderful ambiance with live piano player too. Taylor from Florida was our server and he completely made the night. He knew the menu inside and out, was funny, kind, and had such great energy. He checked on us just the right amount and made sure everything was perfect. Honestly, he was wonderful. He really deserves a raise! I had the special cream of mushroom soup and it was so good. My husband had the French onion which was also delicious. The scallops and risotto were cooked perfectly and the filet mignon was tender and full of flavor. Everything came together perfectly. On our Mackinac Island trip with the grandkids, the hubby and I managed to sneak away for a little date night. We were already booked for a sunset sail under the Mackinac Bridge (romantic, right?), but figured we'd better put something solid in our stomachs before taking on the open water. We ducked into the Carriage House and decided to keep it simple with a couple of nibbles at the bar. The restaurant itself is gorgeous--perched right on the water with a stunning outdoor patio. But we opted for the cozy bar inside, complete with a live piano player to set the mood. The bartenders? Absolute gems. Friendly, funny, and quick to chat--you feel like you've been a regular for years. And let me just say: my Mezcal Negroni? Pure, smokey perfection. For food, we shared the heirloom tomato Caprese salad and their famous French onion soup. Both were excellent, but that soup... I'm still dreaming about it. Rich, savory, perfectly caramelized onions, gooey cheese--honestly, it gives my own homemade version a run for its money, and that's saying something. We only had time for a quick stop, but next time I'm coming back for the full dinner experience. Dined in for a special dinner & we opted for a patio seating.Though they have heaters around, it was increasingly becoming chilly & breezy & server Danielle was nice enough to arrange a table inside by the window still overlooking the lake and lighthouse. We started with a bottle of Dom Perignon, a dozen oysters and Escargot & Crab tower. Everything was good, except for the crab which was mid, lacking in flavor I felt. Our mains were scallops, veal, seafood pasta and prokchops. They were all tasty and delicious, my son though was not expecting the porkchops to be on the sweet side, with sweet wild rice & cranberry. My boyfriend and I had dinner reservations for last night and we were really looking forward to the food, ambiance, and beautiful view for the last night of our vacation. I've been vacationing on the island my whole life and the Carriage House is the only long-standing establishment I've never tried. We were seated by one of two very sweet hostesses. We were unfortunately seated at a table where Andrea from Colorado was our server (side braid with flowers in hair). She was the meanest, rudest, most unpleasant server I've ever experienced. It started with my drink order. When I made a small special request she looked at me like I was the dumbest person on the planet and then proceeded to condescend to me about how an old fashioned is made, when she clearly knew what I was asking and was just making it difficult for me to make my request. Then, it was a good ten minutes before she returned with my drink, even though it was ready at the bar. She ran through the dinner specials quickly with the attitude of a wolverine and regarded us with disdain. We ordered an appetizer as we were trying to decide between what we saw on the menu and the specials we JUST learned about when Andrea nastily told us we needed to order our entrees at the same time as our appetizer. What? My boyfriend told her we weren't going to do that, so she mumbled something about bringing bread over while we decide. I'm certain she didn't put the appetizer in. When she brought the bread back, my boyfriend tried to soften things up by asking an innocuous question, which was very nice, but she regarded him with contempt as she answered him. That was it for me. If the town weren't so busy that night, we would have left and sought food elsewhere, but I instead called the hostess over and told her that we're not going to spend $$$ for bad service. We're good people and Andrea's behavior was completely uncalled for. By this time, I was in tears. The hostess worked with the manager who had us moved to the dining room behind the bar and transferred our order to a different server. Our new server brought us our appetizer (whitefish cakes) and bread and was incredibly kind and professional. My boyfriend ordered the New York Strip and I had the filet with a side of Morels. All of our food was delicious and the service impeccable at that point. The manager came over and apologized and offered a complimentary desert. We ordered the peanut butter pie and it was perfect. I wish I knew the names of the two hostesses, the new server, and the manager. They saved our experience and we really appreciate it. This was a special trip and you never know what people are going through. Kindness is the best approach, but Andrea doesn't have a kind bone in her body. I've seen at least three other reviews in which she was called out for her inexcusable behavior. I know the restaurant industry is struggling to find help, but my Boston Terrier would have been a better server. I don't understand why a restaurant of the caliber of the Carriage House would continue to subject their customers to that kind of treatment (assuming the manager/owner is reading reviews and paying attention to what's going on in the dining room, it's hard to miss). I also don't understand why people who clearly don't like people choose to be in the service industry. I definitely recommend dining here, but avoid Andrea from Colorado at all costs. Hopefully she won't be back next season. read more

Were told to go walk on the pier. Ouch. Dinner was excellent, our waiter was excellent, although prices were... pricey. With tip, we paid $260 for dinner for two (no drinks). Filet was about as good as I've had. Service was extraordinary. Prices were almost expected. If hostess had been more polite, we'd probably add a star. read more

There were a lot of highlights to this place! It was recommended to us and we couldn't wait to get there! The view! Oh my goodness! What a gorgeous view of the lake, surrounded with beautiful flowers. It was even a bit gloomy with a storm rolling in, and it was still beautiful!! The vibe was high end, which is exactly what we were looking for. Very clean and fancy with a piano player. We loved it. Our seer ice was beyond excellent. Our server's name was Coleman and he just made a point to talk to all 5 of us at the table and make a connection. We felt like family by the end of the meal. The food for the MOST part was delicious. A couple people added shrimp to their pasta dishes. When they came out they were tough so we did ask to send them back (very unlike us). The second round of shrimp were similarly cooked. We did ''t say anything but we're definitely a bit disappointed because everything else was delicious. Overall, I would still recommend this place and would give it a 4.5! read more

Was told the place was closed Friday and Saturday due to a private event (later found out it was the owner's daughter's wedding), But we weren't told the views would be crap for our Thursday dinner. Little did we know that our views would be totally obstructed for our dinner reservation on Thursday for preparation of this wedding. Felt gypped out of the experience of the Carriage House because of it. Instead of looking out at the straits of Mackinac we were watching a bunch of dudes put together this massive event space outside with tons of cables, ladders, chandlers, etc. How romantic! Especially when you are paying such a premium for an upscale dining experience. Anyways, we entered the Carriage House to the side, we didn't enter through the hotel. The flowers and walkway to the Carriage House was absolutely stunning. The different amounts of flowers and greenery was very impressive. Inside is very bright and welcoming. Lots of cheerful colors. Beautiful china is served with your food. Tons of drink options. I went with the Bellini martini and it was delicious. Glass was perfectly chilled and it was refreshing. Bread and butter are complimentary served. Dinner wise I went with the scallops and my husband got the veal. I thought my dinner portion was pretty small. I was decently hungry after we left. My husband had a better sized portion with his meal. Taste wise my husband's was excellent and mine was ok, my food didn't taste much of anything. Our waiter was attentive, a little stuffy/robotic but I guess that's expected with upscale dining service. Overall, it was a pleasant experience. But again the wedding set up really killed the mood and ambience of the restaurant. Was hoping to sit outside and enjoy the views everyone praises so much. The Carriage House is a classy restaurant with a beautiful lake view. The price of food is on the pricier end, which was suggestive of better quality food; however, we were slightly disappointed. We were very excited to try this place and arrived in high spirits. The hostesses who were supposed to "greet" us looked the part but merely stood there staring at us when we walked through the front door and approached the podium/check-in desk. I finally spoke and asked for a table for 2. The waitress who served us was nice and efficient, though. She checked up on us twice during the meal. Firstly, we ordered the bloody mary and mimosa. There were no complaints about the mimosa, except there was a chip in the glass, which we would not expect in a high-quality restaurant. The bloody mary was terrible. It lacked more seasoning (no spice or salt flavor profile at all). We then ordered the whitefish dip for an appetizer, which lacked seasoning as well and had a moderately sized bone (see photo for reference). I would not recommend it, especially to young kids. For lunch, we ordered the reuban sandwich and the Wagyu beef burger. The reuban was well made except the bread was a bit too greasy for my liking. The burger had a nice char, cooked to medium rare, and smokey taste but was not the best seasoning for the patty. The best part of the dishes were the fries, which were super crispy and tasty. Overall, for the price of the food and drinks, we expected a better experience. The service was mediocre, food was bland, and drinks were not the best. The only aspects we enjoyed were the beautiful views and nice ambiance. read more

We spotted this beautifully located patio when disembarking the Star Line ferry. After putting our name in at another restaurant, we attempted to get away from the crowds. After reaching what seemed to be the end of the main street, we were so pleased to find no wait for patio seating here. The deck bar was just opening at 2pm Sunday for anyone wanting to grab a drink with an even better view. Our server could not have been more friendly. Classic, fine dining would be the best way to describe the Carriage House. Beautiful views of the harbor with sprawling foliage and seagulls flying about. There was a piano player who played classic tunes softly in the dining room. Our waiter Carlos, was well-aquatinted with the menu and helped us make great selections throughout the evening. He was friendly, funny and helped make our evening out fun! We celebrated our wedding anniversary here and it was a perfect venue for a special occasion. Prices were reasonable for the quality of the food which was spectacular! The ambiance and overall feel was formal, with an older crowd, so keep that in mind for the type of evening you're envisioning. There was a large bar that seemed to cater to business owners and well to do locals, because I recognized a couple of shop owners. The wine and cocktail selections were nice and the pours were adequate. We had filet mignon, chicken dumpling soup, the crab tower, salad, and the peanut butter pie for dessert, all delish! Oh boy I hate leaving reviews like this. But if you are going to charge $79 for a steak you better make sure it's exquisite. Mine was cooked perfectly, good flavor, but overall was a was a tough rubbery mess. Steak was billed as American Wagu (should have been my first red flag). It was super thin like something you would see at outback steakhouse think sirloin. Absolutely not worth even 20$ cut. I've had better steaks at my local breakfast joint. Also steak lacked salt, background flavor profiles good however lacking salt- and I don't even like salty things. Pros. The ambiance was amazing. The piano player was a nice touch. The drinks okay. The service was definitely very good. That's the only reason I'm giving them two stars. Also my salad was pretty good. My advice to the restaurant is get a new meat supplier because that was not worthy of even $20. read more

Beautiful restaurant with vibrant flowers throughout the patio area right on the water! We started with the chartecurie plate (flaked crab, salami, assorted mild cheeses, olives and toast). I ordered the fish sandwich which was tasty and light but could've used some texture in the sandwich, maybe a crispy citrus slaw to compliment the fish. My husband enjoyed the delicious BLT with a slightly spicy dressing. The pomegranate mimosas are a lovely slightly sweet, bubbly compliment to the meal. Skip the crowds! On the edge of the strip is the gem attached to the Iroquois Hotel. Beautiful landscape and architecture. Start with the farm board (charcuterie)! So many unique flavors but the blueberry lavender spread and pickled mini peppers steal the show, The carrot slaw was unique and tasty. However, there is a large space next to the patio that had boxes, industrial equipment, unused furniture etc. that marred a bit of the beauty. (Not a huge deal but noticed) The dinner menu is very limited for entrees. We each started with a salad. They were delicious, fresh and noticeable high quality ingredients. Friend had the Whitefish. It was a nice size portion and tasty. The pork chop was unremarkable. Needed salt and pepper. The sauce was good but not great. The mushroom risotto was very good, the vegetables were fresh. Wow. Wow. And wow. The atmosphere was so relaxing and enjoyable. There was an extremely talented piano player (rich) playing in the background, we were placed right next to a large window overlooking the gardens and patio. Just beautiful. Our waiter, Taylor, was INCREDIBLE. So professional, kind and helpful. Knew the menu like the back of his hand, made great suggestions! At the very end we found out that my parents had paid for our meal (all the way from back home) as an anniversary gift for my husband and I! And he knew the whole time and played it off SO well! Food was amazing! Whitefish was perfectly cooked. Mediterranean pasta was delicious. We ended with a cheesecake topped with raspberry's, which was also incredible!
