Our dinner food was great. We were there early in the season and the staff are still learning but the ambiance of the restaurant and the views can't be beat. But the cherry on top are the two bar tenders, Taylor and Justin, who make phenomenal cocktails and are just great company. Keep up the great work!!

You cannot beat the atmosphere and menu. This is the best place to eat on the island. The patio is lovely. The staff was extremely helpful and made sure that we had an excellent experience. Malik, Jackson, and Holly (among others) made us feel like we were at home.

We stayed at the hotel and had dinner at the Carriage House on our last night. It ended up being the best meal of our trip. We were seated at a cozy corner table by the windows and everything from start to finish was great. Wonderful ambiance with live piano player too. Taylor from Florida was our server and he completely made the night. He knew the menu inside and out, was funny, kind, and had such great energy. He checked on us just the right amount and made sure everything was perfect. Honestly, he was wonderful. He really deserves a raise! I had the special cream of mushroom soup and it was so good. My husband had the French onion which was also delicious. The scallops and risotto were cooked perfectly and the filet mignon was tender and full of flavor. Everything came together perfectly. Great food, great service, and such a nice ambiance. We'll definitely be back.

Make sure to make a reservation. Dined in for a special dinner & we opted for a patio seating.Though they have heaters around, it was increasingly becoming chilly & breezy & server Danielle was nice enough to arrange a table inside by the window still overlooking the lake and lighthouse. We started with a bottle of Dom Perignon, a dozen oysters and Escargot & Crab tower. Everything was good, except for the crab which was mid, lacking in flavor I felt. Our mains were scallops, veal, seafood pasta and prokchops. They were all tasty and delicious, my son though was not expecting the porkchops to be on the sweet side, with sweet wild rice & cranberry. We finished our fine meal with Cream puff & vanilla ice cream. Yum! Service was excellent. Happy tummy! Cheers!

My boyfriend and I had dinner reservations for last night and we were really looking forward to the food, ambiance, and beautiful view for the last night of our vacation. I've been vacationing on the island my whole life and the Carriage House is the only long-standing establishment I've never tried. We were seated by one of two very sweet hostesses. We were unfortunately seated at a table where Andrea from Colorado was our server (side braid with flowers in hair). She was the meanest, rudest, most unpleasant server I've ever experienced. It started with my drink order. When I made a small special request she looked at me like I was the dumbest person on the planet and then proceeded to condescend to me about how an old fashioned is made, when she clearly knew what I was asking and was just making it difficult for me to make my request. Then, it was a good ten minutes before she returned with my drink, even though it was ready at the bar. She ran through the dinner specials quickly with the attitude of a wolverine and regarded us with disdain. We ordered an appetizer as we were trying to decide between what we saw on the menu and the specials we JUST learned about when Andrea nastily told us we needed to order our entrees at the same time as our appetizer. What? My boyfriend told her we weren't going to do that, so she mumbled something about bringing bread over while we decide. I'm certain she didn't put the appetizer in. When she brought the bread back, my boyfriend tried to soften things up by asking an innocuous question, which was very nice, but she regarded him with contempt as she answered him. That was it for me. If the town weren't so busy that night, we would have left and sought food elsewhere, but I instead called the hostess over and told her that we're not going to spend $$$ for bad service. We're good people and Andrea's behavior was completely uncalled for. By this time, I was in tears. The hostess worked with the manager who had us moved to the dining room behind the bar and transferred our order to a different server. Our new server brought us our appetizer (whitefish cakes) and bread and was incredibly kind and professional. My boyfriend ordered the New York Strip and I had the filet with a side of Morels. All of our food was delicious and the service impeccable at that point. The manager came over and apologized and offered a complimentary desert. We ordered the peanut butter pie and it was perfect. I wish I knew the names of the two hostesses, the new server, and the manager. They saved our experience and we really appreciate it. This was a special trip and you never know what people are going through. Kindness is the best approach, but Andrea doesn't have a kind bone in her body. I've seen at least three other reviews in which she was called out for her inexcusable behavior. I know the restaurant industry is struggling to find help, but my Boston Terrier would have been a better server. I don't understand why a restaurant of the caliber of the Carriage House would continue to subject their customers to that kind of treatment (assuming the manager/owner is reading reviews and paying attention to what's going on in the dining room, it's hard to miss). I also don't understand why people who clearly don't like people choose to be in the service industry. I definitely recommend dining here, but avoid Andrea from Colorado at all costs. Hopefully she won't be back next season.

The patty was juicy, the bun was soft and fluffy, and somehow she still managed to have room for dessert. Kids are magical like that. My husband and I both ordered the pan-fried whitefish because, come on... you're on Mackinac Island. You have to. The fish was fresh, flaky, and perfectly cooked with a light, crispy crust that let the flavor of the whitefish shine. Exactly what we were hoping for. The restaurant has a fun, laid-back atmosphere that feels like the perfect place to recharge before heading back out to explore the island. The service was friendly, the food came out quickly, and everything tasted fresh. If you're visiting Mackinac, don't overthink it. Order the whitefish, steal a fry from whoever you're eating with (it's vacation, calories are on island time), and enjoy a great meal.

Our server was excellent- very thoughtful and attentive. We shared the soup of the day (chicken and wild rice) and fresh whitefish chowder. Our entire table devoured the whipped goat cheese with pepper jam and the fried green beans, however, there were mixed reviews on the beef pastie. All in all we really enjoyed our meal here; it was the perfect casual stop for us on our trip.

We arrived early and were greeted pleasantly and were told to have a seat in the lounge so we did the restaurant was less than 1/4 full. We were handed 3 menus one was an appetizer menu. After waiting for some time and standing at the bar we were told we could only order drinks. So we went with it. At 7:28 I went back to the host stand where I where I waited for about 5 minutes finally the hostess reappeared and had no idea. So she seated us in the nose bleed section instead of offering us one of the really nice views. Then the real fun started... nothing for my 8 year old son. We were told we can't do anything for kids the suggestion was crab legs (wow). So he ordered a "Chianti signature Caesar" thinking it's pretty hard to mess up a Caesar Salad (was I wrong). It was dried out and the very bottom of the Roman almost at the base, if not the base. The dressing lacked flavor. On top of that the waiter never asked my son what he wanted to drink. My wife had the beet salad and she said it was good. When seated the waiter told us about the chef parring and I was kinda excited to try a few different things. When I went to order the chef's paring I was told the whole table had to do so. Even though I was told everything was fresh and prepared in house. The waiter pointed to the menu and it was presented differently from the menu which seemed a little sketchy especially for $125 per person. So to be clear if your whole table orders the chef's tasting you're good. If not, no bueno. The main courses were good. The sea bass was really good. The dry aged steak was well seasoned and even though I like things a little more rare some spots were purple. My son got the wagyu which was ordered medium and was closer to rare. The potatoes were amazing and so was the sauce. All and all 1/2 the servers were good and came to check on us. The main courses beef and sea bass and beet salad were pretty tasty and good. Prices aren't terrible for a tourist trap. The GM kept checking on us. In the end we got 2 desserts the apple and the opera cake both were outstanding. The had a piano player was excellent and made for a nice ambience. I think there were some really new people that weren't really sure on what to do or about customer service. The Bartender seemed very frustrated, almost like it was his first night. The hostess was completely lost and in over her head. For a high-end restaurant and very few customers this place should've ran like a well oiled sewing machine.

A minor complaint: the dining room is VAST with high ceilings and a mezzanine of circulation from the main hotel, so a lot of people pass by and look down on the dining area, creating a less than intimate feel for a fine dining meal. Aside from that, this is must-visit fine dining spot on Mackinac Island with a creative menu and a flair for presentation.

We did not make a reservation and we were able to walk right in without a wait on a Friday night. The restaurant is so incredibly big it accommodates a lot of people. We had both breakfast and dinner there and here are our thoughts. Dinner: this is a five course meal. There was so much food. I felt like I couldn't even finish it. I really loved the bison meatballs a lot. The Sweet Corn & Charred Poblano soup was fantastic. Unfortunately the prime rib was just OK. The prime rib at the Jockey club is way better. The cheesecake dessert was extremely disappointing. Our server was excellent and made it a great experience. Dinner here is extremely expensive so I would do it once and go somewhere else for dinner on other nights. Breakfast: Our server was terrible and we ended up getting her both mornings we were there. For the extreme amount of money we are paying to eat here. It really just made the experience terrible. The first day we ordered off the menu and I got orange juice. The waiter gave me one small glass and we never saw her again. The next day I did the buffet and was able to refill my own orange juice multiple times. it's just silly how terrible we were neglected. The breakfast was good, but too overpriced.

The required dress code makes it an elevated experience, and the staff are all so attentive and on top of things. We opted for the dining package that includes breakfast and dinner, so we enjoyed several meals here. Each night features a different menu for the dinner: red, green, or yellow. The dinners are five courses and you are encouraged to choose an item for each course, but you don't have to (many of the kids in our party only ordered appetizers and mains). On the first night, I had shrimp cocktail, French onion soup, herb-crusted prime rib, and the German chocolate cake. The prime rib was my favorite although it was a bit too salty. The second night I opted for the butter poached lobster roll, tuscan sausage and kale soup, little gem Caesar, crab crusted walleye, and the famous pecan ball for dessert. My favorite was the lobster roll - it was a small portion, but so delicious and the lobster was perfectly cooked. Overall, the dinner food was all good to very good. Seasoned pretty well, cooked nicely, and super impressive with the mass quantities of food that they put out every single day. The dinners took two hours, but I never felt that the pacing was off and things moved along well. We also dined here for breakfast twice - they have a breakfast buffet as well as an a la carte menu which is included. I enjoyed the egg white bowl for breakfast one morning, and then the buffet the next day. I do wish there were some kind of vegetables/veggie dishes on the breakfast buffet but that's just me.

The bartender was super friendly and we enjoyed chatting with her. I got a featured sangria with pear vodka which was delicious and refreshing. Their taps were out of order, but they have plenty of canned and bottled options. The fish and chips came with two large filets and plenty of fries. I even liked the coleslaw, which I normally don't really love. The batter was a bit thick for my taste but the fish was flaky and not dry. Nate got the waldorf salad, which was huge and had tons of toppings and a nice portion of grilled chicken. The space is quite small so I don't think this place would be great if you have a stroller or anyone in a wheelchair.
