That allows the food to be the main event. We split the vegetable gyoza while we each ordered our ramen. The gyoza was very tasty and interestingly decorated. For one, it looks like a crepe is covering the dumplings. The batter reminded me of an Indian dosa. But super tasty. I got the veggie creamy ramen. It was very yummy. I wanted to love this place because it's the closest thing to a traditional ramen shop (a la Ippudo, Ichiran, etc.) that DTJC has. Alas, the experience was as mixed as a controversial Sundance film. Our Muteki Wings had good texture, but were supposed to come with a yuzu miso sauce--but it didn't taste like yuzu or miso, just lots of thick sugar. My Spicy Tonkatsu Ramen was as bland as a potato salad with raisins: no spice, no umami, just a boringly unflavored broth with nice noodles. On the other hand, the Yuzu Shio Ramen was a winner and satisfied a deeply unaddressed part of my appetite that hasn't gotten a good yuzu-based broth since NYC's Mentoku Ramen closed (RIP forever and ever). Muteki Ramen in Jersey City is such a lovely little find. It's a small, cute spot tucked on a side street just off Washington, and it really feels like a cozy escape from the busier main roads. I ordered a Muteki ramen ($19) and pork buns set ($9). At first glance, the prices felt slightly high, but when you think about the location--literally a stone's throw from New York City--it's actually very reasonable. The same meal across the river would easily be close to $50, so for the area, I think it's a great value. The food itself was delicious. The broth was rich and comforting, and the pork bun was super tasty and well done. Service was excellent. My waiter was attentive, kind, and very helpful, especially since it was my first time there and I wasn't sure what to order. He made a great recommendation. The food also came out super fast, which I really appreciated. The decor is another highlight. Inside, it genuinely feels like you've been transported to Tokyo--intimate, stylish, and warm. It's the kind of place where you can just relax and enjoy your bowl of ramen. A couple of small downsides: * There's only one unisex bathroom, which can be a bit of a wait if it's busy. * Parking in the area is a bit challenging, so plan ahead if you're driving. Came here on a Friday night. I was visiting my friend and he suggested this spot. The place was crowded but luckily we didn't have to wait. We kicked it off with karaage fried chicken which was really crispy and juicy. Got an order of akashi takoyaki (octopus balls - PAUSE) which was tasty. Also got the pan-fried pork gyoza which looked really interesting, it had a nice crunch to it, I liked it a lot. For my main, I got the Muteki ramen ($19) and so good, especially the broth and pork. The ramen here really hits the spot. It's fast, delicious and they give you enough to fill you for hours. I ordered the Tonkotsu bowl with a lemon lime bomb tea drink. Came out to around $27. Pretty expensive but it's also downtown jersey city. The food was delivered in eco friendly and reusable containers. I will admit, they have an animated bowl of ramen in the front of the store, which drew me in. However, I'm so glad I discovered this place as a result of their fun marketing strategy! I walked in on a Thursday night and there were plenty of tables. We were seated immediately. To start off with, we got the Kaarage Fried Chicken. This was crispy and juicy, all in one bite. I also really liked the sauce they drizzled on the top. For a drink, my fiance got the Thai Iced Tea. The presentation was so cute and he got to pour in the milk himself! Very fun and creative. For our mains, we got the Miso Ramen and Braised Minced Pork Don. The Miso Ramen broth was perfect and there was a wonderful balance of toppings. The pork was soft and this was exactly what I was craving. The Braised Minced Pork Don was a hearty serving with an incredible quantity of pork, rice, and vegetables. For all my vegetarian friends, Muteki has a vegetarian ramen option! My friend who is a vegetarian was happy with her ramen and was able to substitute 1-2 of the toppings with other ones. I ordered the miso ramen which had a rich broth and tender pork belly. However I realize now that I was missing an egg in my ramen which was pretty disappointing. They also charged an extra $1 for chili oil so if you're looking for an extra kick, be mindful of that! Our waiter was very prompt in taking our order and clearing our table. We went on a Monday evening so the restaurant was only about half full. Really enjoyed having a warm bowl of ramen on such a cold day! read more

Despite how busy he was he was very friendly, checked in on us, absolutely very polite the whole time. Ambiance: the layout and decorations are well laid out. If you've ever been to the Museum Of Ramen in Yokohama, Japan, then you'll recognize the iconic machine that has a pair of chopsticks bouncing up and down in a fake bowl of ramen! This place usually doesn't have a long line and is a very chill place to get a satisfying bowl of ramen. I am a big fan of yuzu, so I got the yuzu shio ramen with a grilled lemon and chicken. The egg is on point and the yolk is runny. It's very refreshing after a night out and very hydrating with that citrus and salt soup. The noodles are Q and very chewy. Fried chicken is pretty standard, juicy and crispy. I got the gyoza another time, and the way they fry it is pretty cool. They have a "dumpling skirt" which is like extra skin that is super crispy. Great ramen choices in Jersey City!! I love that this spot opened up in downtown JC. Parking can be a bit tricky, but we were able to get a spot a block away. This location has plenty of seating, and I appreciate the variety of choices. The servers are quick and attentive. As far as beverages, it is by order although I was too embarrassed to ask for additional hot water for my tea. I got the black tonkatsu and my hubby got the volcano miso ramen. We had edamame, volcano miso ramen and pork katsu curry. The edamame was very flavorful and was a huge serving portion...just right amount of spice. Volcano miso ramen had a mild kick but was disappointed in the really small amount of pork in the dish. Pork katsu was a huge portion, but the cut of pork had some very tough pieces of gristle in it. The curry was decent...wish it had a little more spice. Serving portions were great. If we lived here I think we'd probably make this a once a month or two place as it was a good change but not necessarily a "wow" effect. read more

Finally, another ramen spot in Jersey City! I went several months back and it looked like they just had a grand opening since balloons and banners were still up. We came on a weekend for lunch and was pretty packed but the two of us were seated immediately. We ordered the tempura buns and they were super fresh with great flavor in the sauces they used. My boyfriend got the chicken katsu which he enjoyed. I ordered the black tonkotsu ramen which came with thin noodles. I'm generally a big fan of wavy noodles and wanted to try something different, but think my preference still stands. It was still worth a try though! Wow so happy I was craving ramen and found this place that recently opened! And it's so close to where I live. I've been struggling to find a good ramen spot since I've moved here. The restaurant decor was nice and clean. Servers were very friendly and food came out quickly. The server recommended the fried chicken for appetizer and it was a great recommendation. The chicken was super hot and fresh. It was also crispy and the sweet sauce on top was delicious. I ordered a spicy tonkatsu ramen. It wasn't deathly spicy but it definitely had a kick. The flavor was good. I didn't realize the noodles weren't wavy which was my mistake because it said it in the description. I prefer wavy noodles and will try that next time. The pork was so delicious I could eat 20 more slices (tender, juicy). They do not serve alcohol here (maybe in the future). I do hope they expand their drink selection! read more

I feel like Muteki Ramen in Jersey City opened with very little fanfare. I heard all about their location in Hoboken, but didn't realize this JC outpost opened a year ago. I'd call it one of downtown's best kept secrets, but even without the announcements, this place is thriving. I'm really hoping they become a mainstay in the local dining scene. So, shortly after finding out about Muteki, I convinced my boyfriend to come with me here for dinner. Even though it had been raining all day, they were still packed. The inside is a little tiny, but they do an amazing job with the decor and table placements. I'd say it's a great spot if you're with a crew of five or less. Our waitress seemed a little new, but very knowledgeable and took our order right away. We also found out it's byob, so prep yourself for that (there's a liquor store around the corner) We started out with the purple potato tempura fries (delicious) and the karaage fried chicken (also delicious). Both were great serving sizes for two people. We both got ramen as our main course and it was amazing. I feel blasphemous for saying this, but the ramen was on-par with Miso (my previous fav ramen place in JC) and way more expansive. Their ramen selection is gives you the full breadth of pork, chicken, seafood, and veggie options, they don't skimp on toppings (Ani does) and the broth is perfect. I get the feeling that as the weather gets colder, Muteki is going to become a bigger go-to in my dinner choices. read more

My local go-to when I want solid ramen. I feel good when I finish a bowl of their yuzu chicken ramen, their vegetarian ramen or their seafood ramen . The broth is fulfilling and flavorful without feeling unhealthily greasy . The noodles are cooked to a good texture and the toppings are well assembled and selected. Great ramen spot in JC. Never had a vegan ramen as creamy as the one from Muteki. I ordered the vegetarian creamy ramen for pick up and it is one of the most flavorful veg ramen I've had. The broth is super rich and flavorful and the noodles have the perfect amount of chew. I also like how generous they are with the toppings. The restaurant wasn't super packed when I went to pick up my food, but it seems like a nice spot to dine in. The staff are very attentive and helpful. Great ramen, friendly service, and only a short walk from home, what's better than that? Muteki has become a regular favorite for us and we visit at least once a week. The ramen quality is the best in Jersey City and I usually order the tan tan ramen, with minced pork and pork broth, and it is very flavorful. My s.o. orders the tonkotsu ramen which always gets a thumbs up review. A friend who regularly joins us for dinner orders the creamy vegetarian ramen, which is thoughtfully conceived and prepared. She loves it. Appetizers usually include pork bao buns, which are yummy, kim chi, or occasional specials like fried oysters, which are also great. This is a BYOB spot, so if you want to drink you'll only have to walk 2 minutes to find the beer or wine of your choice. Atmosphere has fun, Tokyo-style decor and J-Pop for music, but service quality really makes the difference. A male server always remembers my ramen choice and Blanca, a newer server, is incredibly sweet and welcoming. We would travel more distance for Muteki's great food and service, but lucky for us it is just down the street. Highly recommend! read more

Such a welcome addition to the area--best ramen in downtown Jersey City for sure, and the best chashu (yakibuta) I've had in years. We love the: + Yakibuta Don ($13): Melt-in-your-mouth braised pork belly over rice with half a marinated egg, seaweed salad, pickled carrots and radish, and spinach. I don't normally eat fatty meat (I'm weirded out by the texture) but this is so melty that I don't mind it when mixed with the rice. Definitely the top pick for both me and my toddler. + Chashu Pork Buns ($8): Two fluffy buns filled with the same melty chashu as mentioned above and paired with crunchy shredded cabbage in a mayo dressing. + Miso Ramen ($16): This was what I ordered on our first visit. An absolutely solid ramen with a full suite of toppings--chashu, bean sprouts, spinach, wood ear mushrooms, bamboo, corn, egg, fish cake, nori--but the star was the chashu. (Can you tell I love their chashu?) I did find the broth a tad salty and prefer the yakibuta don. + Maze-men Dry Ramen ($15): This was my husband's pick. He said the flavor was good (but did lean salty), and he liked the noodle texture and all the toppings, and he would order it again. We ordered the karaage as an app and the miso volcano ramen and unagidon. App came immediately which was questionable...but it was great. Good breading and tender chicken with a nice Thai sauce. Then came the unagidon which was a good portion. After about 15-20 mins with no one checking on us, I realized two other tables getting their ramen before me so I called for a waiter. Apparently they forgot the order and asking if I really ordered it saying it's not in the system. I jest, saying no I'm just sitting here without an entree and looking at the other person eat for fun. Imagine making a mistake and trying to blame it on the customer.
