Pork on rice - similar to the chashu bowl, it's a ton of rice with very little pork. The pork was also quite chewy and plain. Won't be getting this again. read more

I was craving something warm, quick, and fast for a cold winter day so I decided to go with Ramen Green. I don't regret my decision at all. Ramen Green is located inside 99 Ranch and is part of the supermarket food court. I did an online order and picked up, which worked out wonderfully. Their online ordering platform is smooth and everything was packed up with SO much care for me to carry out! (For example, my nori was in a separate little bag so wouldn't get soggy in the ramen when I compiled it!! This level of care is so rare and special). I ordered the Tonkatsu ramen, which for $13 and big portion, is an absolute steal. I will say that while the toppings and noodles tasted great, I wasn't the biggest fan of the broth. It was by no means bad, it just didn't blow me away. I would suggest coming to Ramen Green if you're looking for great service and a bang for your buck! The ramen prices are cheaper than other places but the broth is a little bland for my liking so I often add extra sauce/chili powder to flavor it. Despite the exact same look, this is not the 5 star ramen that I got from the Kitakana restaurant that this shop replaced. Kitakana moved to midtown NYC and it seems that Ramen Green is under a new owner that basically copied the whole image and menu but didn't get the recipe right. When I came for my ramen fix, and realized Kitakan was gone, I figured I'd give Ramen Green a fair chance since the menu looked the same. I tried miso ramen, and found the broth to be about half the strength of the Kitakana version. It was like they diluted the original broth recipe with 50% more water. Also the chashu didn't have the strong saltiness that it once did. Where'd the flavor go?? A tip dropped my eye. I gave the karage a chance, and found it to be a greasy soggy mess compared to the crispy and fresh taste from Kitakana. If you ever had chicken that was overcooked from frying 2-3 times, slightly burnt, and left sitting in the grease, then you know what I mean. At least the dipping sauce tasted similar, albeit a weaker representation than before. I'll never buy that again. A year dropped my other eye. Even if I wasn't comparing the recipe to the prior Kitakana recipe, I would say the dishes I had are still just 2 star worthy. If they improve the taste and freshness then they could easily get back to higher. Where it stands now, there are many other ramen shops that are far better. Dear Ramen Green, it would be better if you just change the menu with your own recipe. Don't just water down and ruin the original recipes and go cheap by recooking old food. This is not the authentic Japanese taste that us locals grew to expect here, so the decline in quality is extremely noticeable. Improve your recipe or just do something different. As it stands now, the food quality is sub-par and definitely not worth the price. The portions and presentation may be the same, but this is a true case of "looks can be deceiving." Well my boyfriend and I stumbled into 99 Ranch in search of a quick bite to eat and bubble tea. After quickly walking around the food court area and seeing my options. I decided on Ramen Green. I had ordered the chicken ramen and my boyfriend ordered the spicy miso ramen and an order of fried chicken (karaage). Our order was quickly called and it looked and smelled delicious. My chicken ramen had like a creamy broth and had a good amount of noodles, bamboo shoots, scallions, soft boiled egg, and chunks of karaage. It tasted great! My boyfriend enjoyed his spicy miso ramen. He enjoyed that spicy miso broth. The order of karaage was cooked perfectly and was cooked perfectly with a crunch in every bite. The restaurant has a small eating area just for Ramen Green customers. They have a variety of ramen options and also rice dishes. This place is definitely a hidden gem. A positive but other odd thing was when I asked for corn to be added, I got a small cup full of corn that tasted like it was the Green Giant Nibblers brand with a hint of butter; usually at other places add ons are mixed in. Last time I wasn't very impressed with the broth flavor or the fact that my spicy miso ramen was topped with a mound of cold raw carrots and spinach in lukewarm broth (would have been fine if the broth was piping hot). After I ordered the boiled vegetable shio ramen and sat down, I realized that it's actually a different ramen restaurant now LOL My vegetable shio ramen was pretty good overall. The broth was light but with enough flavor to not make it boring. Noodle was nice and chewy but the portion is significantly smaller than other ramen places in NY/NJ. Charsiu was ok but it's sliced so thin that it's hard to tell the flavor. I find Ramen Green's menu is very similar to Kitakana Ban Nai. Yes, it is inside the 99 Ranch food court, but the quality is so good that you'll forget that you still have to finish getting groceries. I ordered the #2 Shoyu ramen, the #4 spicy miso, the fried chicken over rice, shrimp tempura, and the pork gyoza. We demolished everything. The broth was great, the noodles were bouncy, the vegetables were plentiful, the food was hot. Minor con are that the indoor food court seating is a little cold (but that's why you have ramen right?) and that tables are first come, first served, and you have to clean your spot. Ordered the tonkatsu ramen to go from the shop in 99 Ranch. The broth was very nice and flavorful, not too heavy but had good taste. The noodles were plentiful and cooked well, you can tell that they were fresh as they were still chewy (in a good way). I felt that the portion was perfect, my only change next time would be to get extra charsiu. They cut their pork very thin, it's cooked well and the fat is well rendered but I definitely need a bit more in the bowl to last through the full noodles.
