We ordered from Ani Ramen based off of a friend's rave review and recommendation. We ordered delivery in early February. It was our first time trying Ani Ramen. Delivery was quick. Order was correct. And it will be our last time though. We ordered kurobuta sausage, a side of soy glazed chicken, side of garlic yu choy, side of yaki-pulled pork, the pork bowl, and Tokyo shoyu ramen. The side dishes were great. That's all we would have ordered had we known. The Tokyo shoyu ramen was awful, unflavorful and way overpriced. Egg costs extra for ramen... bizarre. All other places add everything for the same price and way better flavor. Noodles overcooked. Pork bowl also bland. This place is a pass for us. We miss vivi bubble in Hoboken. I've been to both the Montclair and Jersey City Ani Ramen locations, and honestly, they're pretty similar in the best way. The main difference is that the JC spot has a full bar with awesome bartenders and really fun, creative drinks, while Montclair is BYOB. Both have great energy, but this review (and the drool-worthy photo attached) is for the downtown JC location. I'll admit it- I'm a creature of habit. I've been here more times than I can count, and I always order the vegan ramen. As is. No extras needed. It's just that good. The vegetable broth is hands down the best I've ever had. I could sip it straight from a mug and be happy, but the noodles and fresh, crispy toppings take it to another level. Every bite feels balanced and intentional. The ambiance is fun, modern industrial, and a little dark but lively. One wall is all exposed brick, which gives it such a cool vibe. The metal chairs aren't exactly built for lounging, but come on, we're downtown slurping ramen, not hanging out at a sleepy café. The staff is always friendly and totally on top of things. They know the menu inside and out, so if you're ordering vegan, you can trust you're in good hands. The food really speaks for itself. Stopped by Ani Ramen in Jersey City and tried the Chicken Karaage and Spicy Tonkatsu Ramen (asked for less spicy which they were very accommodating). The service was great--friendly and quick, and the interior had a nice, modern vibe, although the music was a bit too loud for my taste. The karaage was definitely the highlight--juicy, flavorful, and perfectly fried with a nice crunch. The dipping sauce, however, was just okay and didn't really add much to the dish. For the ramen, I added a boiled egg, and the pork belly was thick, tender, and well-cooked, which I appreciated. The broth, though, was a little underwhelming and could've used more depth to the dish. Also, the portion of noodles felt a bit skimpy, which made the bowl less satisfying overall. Everything was decent but not particularly memorable--good spot if you're in the area and craving ramen. The Tokyo shoyu was really good too, we swapped the pork belly for the soy glazed chicken and it was super flavorful. The service was nice, but a bit slow. There was only one other group in the restaurant but it took a long time for the food to come out. Granted there seemed to be a ton of takeout orders going on though. We picked Ani Ramen in JC for a weekend lunch to try out InKind's 20% cashback offer. I made a reservation to ensure our spot for the lunch. Upon arrival, finding parking was little hectic but the restaurant itself was empty, we were the first party. The restaurant looked gorgeous, so colorful and modern, with a bar in the middle. I started with chicken karaage and bao buns, excellent quality fried chicken. Short rib gyoza was superb. Loved the shrimp skewers that had hint of pepper and spice. Tue strawberry Sendai was a tasty drink as well. The service was lovely. Food didn't take too long to come out. All the tables are very close to each other. We were the first group at lunch time. We were sat by the door while there were delivery guys sitting to pick up. To celebrate someone who has a strong love for ramen, I made a reservation at Ani Ramen in JC for the very first time. All expectations were exceeded from the first app. The Japanese cucumber app was so tasty and refreshing we ended up putting in a second order. I'm still wondering if they would share the recipe for the yuzu sauce... We got two orders of bao buns, first the shrimp and then the kimchi that was on the specials menu for the night. If we thought the shrimp were good, the kimchi blew us away. I think there was also pork belly in there but I could be wrong. After all the apps, I was almost not hungry anymore, but still welcomed my Ani Ramen Tonkatsu (another special from the ramen menu). It was AMAZING. I am no stranger to Ani Ramen, but always either take out or another location. This was by far my favorite ramen I've had here. It was bone broth and pork belly and it was delicious. The added egg was also the move. Don't sleep on the added egg. We got a few cocktails as well. My blackberry/tequila concoction was so tasty, a little too sweet maybeeee, but still a perfect pairing to the night. The vibe is really anything you needed it to be. We were treating the night like a celebration, so we were a little on the nicer side, but there were also folks in casual garb and no one looked out of place. I had a solid first experience at Ani Ramen! The waitress we had seemed really busy and unpleasant about that. Seemed to have given me an attitude just because I requested a can of sprite instead of the bar sprite I was served. She seemed to have switched from our table and we were greeted by another waitress who was way nicer. She was attentive and quick with service. The environment was very chill -- dimly lit with rustic interior and had neon lighting. They have cocktails which is unlike other ramen spots but we weren't in the mood. We went straight to the ramen and ordered the Chefs Special or Tokyo Shoyu. I forgot which one! It was very flavorful! Especially the pork. I usually like a pork broth but the only one they had was spicy and I'm not big on spice. My gf ended up getting the Spicy Tonkotsu but asked if they could make it non-spicy and they had no issue! I've heard this place has good ramen but a loud, clubby vibe. Fortunately, we seemed to catch the quiet, pre-club scene by coming for dinner ~6pm. So all we had to worry about was the deliciousness of the food. This isn't the type of ramen-ya to make Ichiran lose sleep, but it's darn good at a lower price point (seriously, $25 for tonkatsu?). We got the Chef's Special, which was loaded with savory chicken paitan, lemongrass and shallots, and tender kakuni (pork belly), plus lots of crunchy, healthy vegetables. Considering some ramen spots in NYC charge extra for even one vegetable, paying just $17 for something this tasty felt almost free. Equally scrumptious was the Daily Special, which had a shoyu-based broth and tons of tender short rib. If it hadn't lacked pickled mustard greens, I could've sworn it was Taiwanese beef noodle soup. It was a rainy day and decided to try out the local ramen place. We arrived around 4:30p (we thought they had a happy hour) and it was pretty mellow but the waitress let us seat ourselves which was nice. Immediately was given water and drink orders were taken, I had a great beer, a Talea Sour (not pictured). My boyfriend and I both got the Tokyo Shoyu Ramen, mine with the normal pork belly and my boyfriend got the pulled pork. The noodles were great and I think it was genuinely the best egg I've ever had in a ramen, it was perfectly jammy (an additional cost but totally worth it). The pork for both of us was great, my boyfriend commented that the pulled pork seemed to have a lot of extra fat which he wasn't the biggest fan of. Had a great experience at Ani Ramen that I'd love to share with y'all. Showed up without a reservation around 530 on a Thursday evening and it was quiet. There was one other table and it looked like one server - Jesus. The place quickly filled up and by 7pm, it was a packed house (both bar and restaurant) and now it was Jesus and another server. Led me to believe this place is popular and I can tell why. Service: Jesus was our server and he was kind, attentive and very detailed when making recommendations. He overheard us speaking about something and jumped in to check if we were okay and ready to order. We didn't have to hound him down for our food or to place an order, and given how busy it was, we're grateful for his attentiveness. Ambiance/Vibes: We're on point! When we arrived early, the music was at more of a conversational level so we were able to engage. When it started to get busier, the music volume went up. I'd say if you go for a date where you can talk, go earlier. Food: I recently had a poor ramen experience somewhere else and was really looking for a place to make it better. The food here was really good - starting with the chilli oil edamame and bao buns. Both came out in good time and were warm and tasty. They even offered a complimentary cucumber salad - which we didn't eat but appreciated the gesture! The ramen was also really good! I was licking the bowl clean by the end! It was a rainy Sunday and my girls and i were hungover. They craved ramen but my first experience wasn't great so I had no expectations for this spot....I was blown away. The ambiance was relaxing it would be a great date spot. We started with gyoza which was so flavorful then followed up with the shrimp bao buns. The buns were so soft and so delicious and it paired perfectly with the Panko shrimp which was breaded to perfection. The sauce that was inside was divine. Everything about this plate was delicious. Then we had to wait an hour for our Ramen to come, and that was the most disappointing part of the experience was the long wait, but they made up for it by giving us house shots, which was amazing service on their behalf the waitress kept checking in on us. Now, when the Ramen came to the table and I had my first alert, I was absolutely blown away. The flavor was incredible. We were silent the whole time, which is how you know the food was good and let me not forget the lychee martini it was such a refreshing flavor and very strong. Everything was tasty, but like one of the other Yelper reviewer said -- do definitely get the edamame, tasty dish! We had vegan ramen bowls. Actually we ordered three vegan ramen bowls -- I had the standard vegan bowl with fried tofu on the side, my daughter had it with fried tofu in the bowl with add on of boiled egg and fried shrimp on the side, And my husband had it with chicken.
