I took my puppy Chuchi yesterday for her first groom & it was a horrible hack scissor job. She's choppy everywhere & no clippers were used you can tell she took scissors & cut hair off her. Sharon is so wonderful and patient, and sweet, and caring, and just genuinely a decent human being. I can't thank her enough for her work with sweet baby BooBoos. She did flawless work on a less than cooperative subject, she was kind and understanding and went above and beyond in her interactions with me as well. I will detail the story below but in case you don't feel like reading my novel, I'll summarize here. Only go to Mutt Puddles (such a cute name btw) if you want to receive superior service all around. Only go it if you want to interact with real, warm, down to earth people who truly care about you and your pets. Only go if you want to get your baby back looking perfect and more adorable than ever and also calm and secure unlike you have ever seen them before. If you want anything other than top-notch service, I suggest you go elsewhere. Hahah! Of course, we all want those things, so GO TO MUTT PUDDLES!! Give it a try already! I work with a VERY small rescue in the area and had a terribly matted Shih Tzu who was just rescued from a puppy mill. He was completely unsocialized, scared of everyone, would not willingly let anyone touch him at that point. But his mats were clearly painful and all over his body, not to mention the urine and feces and who knows what else that was covering his fur. I brought the little guy in as a complete mess. A few nervous and concerned for both parties hours later, I get the call that he's ready. Holy transformation! I didn't even recognize him!! He was shaved down beautifully, bathed and emanating a much more bearable smell, and even had a cute little bandana on! I could tell IMMEDIATELY that he was so much more comfortable and could have cried right there. But the awesomeness continues. In the few hours she had with him, she did not try to suppress or ignore or rush around any anxiety attacks he had (and my guess is that he had many). She learned how to work with him in his moments of sheer terror and help him calm down and see her as an ally rather than a scary enemy. She shared with me what she found that worked for her had it was invaluable information. She gave me hope that he might actually trust someone in the near future. (And he absolutely did!). She also told me of a mixture that would help get the stinky crustys off his feet that were just embedded and stuck for a good while. Thanks to that concoction, his feet are no longer stinky or crusty and have even lost much of the gross brown stain that I was sure was there to stay. And lastly, she was so gracious when it came to a little financial issue that I could not have blamed her for not proceeding at all as a result. The director of the rescue was supposed to call in with a credit card # to prepay the grooming service. We were unable to get ahold of her for the entirety of the appointment. Not only did Sharon proceed with the grooming, but she also wasn't upset or anything afterward and let me leave with BooBoos confident that we would get ahold of the director for payment. I felt so bad leaving without payment, I even offered to pay with my own card and she declined my offer! I can't tell you how much that meant as this foster business is EXPENSIVE! And that was an expense I was not prepared for. I think she saw the panic on my face and put humanity before monetary gain and for that, I will always have the utmost respect for her. We, of course, got the bill paid that day and all was right with the universe. But her kindness and generosity throughout the whole experience was almost a shock because I do not encounter such things, ever, really. I can't imagine going anywhere else for any grooming/bathing/pampering needs. Not only is Sharon amazing herself, but she is also an amazing groomer as well. He came out evenly shaved! That is a feat that will forever elude me because he can be quite the wiggly worm. But he looked impeccable! So handsome! He's grown out quite a bit so I foresee a visit not too far in the future. I have been using Mutt Puddles for grooming and bathing needs after relocating to Seattle from Louisville, KY. My awesome Teddy Bear Golden Doodle absolutely lives spending time at Mutt Puddles with Sharon and Mike. I started bathing Jake at Mutt Puddles and moved on to grooming him there once a month. I have had Jake since he was a 3 month puppy and I can absolutely say he has had the best grooming at Mutt Puddles than any groomer that has ever groomed Jake. He absolutely loves being there and Sharon and Mike have also boarded him when I have needed that service. If you are looking for a reliable place to bathe or groom your dog this is absolutely the best place for TLC for your pup. Mike and Sharon were very helpful after we called for directions when we arrived we were very surprised to see a home converted into a self serve dog wash and groomer! We enjoyed the very home like and personal experience. While we were washing Mike even gave us a hand with the bathing and cleaned our babies ears for us! We left with a clean pup that smelled great from the "puppy perfume" and a bandana. Sharon even sent us home with some samples of some of their favorite dog food. We would be happy to send our fellow dog lovers to them anytime! It was well worth the 15-20 minute drive from downtown. Just thought I'd give the heads up to people looking to use these "groomers" please ask a LOT of questions to someone claiming to be a groomer. Anyone can say they are a groomer without the proper training and these people are obviously not trained at all to groom. Shih tzus and other Brachycephalic breeds were being kennel dried while I was there a HUGE no no with these breeds that could cause suffocation and agonizing death as they cannot breathe as well in a kennel dryer even WITHOUT a heating element. Even some breeds considered safe to kennel dry their medical history should be extensively questioned by the groomer before check in (I don't use kennel dryer at all). Hundreds of dogs die every years from a routine trip to the groomers with someone poorly trained or not trained at all on the dangers of grooming. On top of that I observed scissoring in between pads of feet with grooming shears something any real groomer knows is a horrible idea and could lead to cutting off the pad of a dog's foot (I was told by the owner this injury has already occurred with them and someone's dog). Owners also admitted their only training was watching grooming videos which is NOT enough when working with tools sharp enough to easily perform open heart surgery with. On top of that people were being charged FULL price for extremely poor quality grooming which is just awful. I observed many other alarming things while there that may it hard for me to sleep at night in good conscience. I only want to warn people before someone's animal is hurt badly by their lack of knowledge. Unfortunately anyone can call themselves a groomer as it is an unlicensed industry that is working for change but as of right now ANYONE can call themselves a groomer, certified or not. I myself under the supervision of TWO professionally trained groomers (one with 7 years experience and another with 10 years exp.) worked over 500 hours learning about grooming safety, various breed cuts, creative cuts and how to use my tools properly before I was certified by their schooling. I was NEVER, EVER, EVER left alone or unobserved with an animal while being trained to groom! These people should be under the supervision of a professional groomer before deciding to try grooming, it is dangerous work ESPECIALLY for an amateur it is not something worth trying to learn on your own, I've see dogs lose eyes, tongues, ears and toes to experimentation with grooming. Those of use who are good and responsible groomers are unfortunately grouped in the same category as those who are ignorant to grooming correctly. To protect yourself AND your pets PLEASE tour the facility, see samples of the groomers work and ask your groomer LOTS of questions: Where did you go to school to learn to groom or who did you apprecticeship under? For how long? How long have you been grooming professionally? If my pet is injured in your care what is the procedure to get my dog medical attention? This place is fantastic. The staff is incredibly personable and helpful, and it is obvious that they really adore animals. The self-bathe tubs are very nice, as is the selection of items they have for sale. The prices are very good, especially the prices they charge to have them do the full-groom on your dog - the best prices I've found yet. I highly recommend trying Mutt Puddles! read more

Just went for the first time last night to bathe my mastiff. They were GREAT! I live very close by, but didn't know they were there and have been driving all the way to 6th ave in Tacoma or to university place just for a bath. The owners were incredibly nice, and understood that my dog is a little bit of a brat and doesn't really like people he doesn't know so they gave him enough space so that he was comfortable and behaved well. After he was all done, while I was paying, She fed him treats and worked to become his friend. Their prices are very reasonable as well. We will DEFINATELY be going back! read more

This was a great place to take my dog for a self-serve dog wash. The tubs were just the right height and the sides weren't too tall. Good water pressure and plenty of space for a 70 pound dog. The place was clean and well lite, really good parking, smelled nice, and had lots of clean towels for us. I took my own shampoo, which I always dilute due to the thickness of my dog's coat, and they had all the supplies I needed to dilute and apply the shampoo. Mike, one of the owners, was friendly and helpful and helped lift my old dog in and out of the tubs since my dog can't do that on his own anymore. This is a fantastic place for a self-serve dog wash. Kind of an odd location if you are going for the first time, but easy to find once you've been there. It's very nice to have such a great a place nearby! read more

I have never felt more unwelcomed while supporting a local small business- EVER!! I was a professional groomer for ten years prior to burning out, so I really have a hard time paying $50+ for a service when I can do it exactly how I want it. I normally do the self-service bath. We recently moved to WA from Annapolis, MD, where we paid $14 to wash our dog. The first time I went to Mutt Puddles, I was bummed out by the high price and a little weirded out when both owners HOVERED over me with vacuum and squeegie when I was blowdrying my German Shepherd. It made me a little uncomfortable, but I made excuses for them since my dog has a LOT of coat and it was late in the evening, blah, blah... I decided to try it again. This time was so much worse. First of all, I'm 7 months pregnant, and the lady wanted ME to brush out my dog's coat prior to washing him "to cut down on HER cleaning!!!" I reluctantly agreed since I was already there, then went about washing my dog. I don't like how their tubs are open at the end. My dog grew up in a grooming salon, but he still sees that as a way out. I don't like their heavy hose nozzles; Petco discontinued using this same style over 10 years ago because they're not good for groomers' wrists. Plus, they don't have strong enough water pressure. Next, I don't like that they offer completely undiluted shampoo. I don't want it totally watered down, but when shampoo is diluted 3:1, it makes it much easier to get down to the skin and get your dog really clean. It took much longer than it should have to get my dog clean, then I started drying him with the force dryer. The owners didn't hover over me this time, but rather stayed in the back where I could hear them grumbling about my German Shepherd, etc. I was so shocked at their rudeness, that I left with a damp dog and no brushing, so now my dog is dropping coat all over my house anyway. I will absolutely never bring my money there again, and I will actively deter my friends in the military community from spending their money there as well. read more
