After relocating to Long Island from Bayonne NJ, I found Kayo boxing gym in west Hempstead ny. Who I found was the fighting pride of Long Island Mr. Michael Corleone who has decades and decades of experience and within 2 seconds of talking to him you know this man ate punches for a living. The exact person you want in your corner going to battle, someone who has seen it all and taken it all, willing to fight and plod through fire taking 12 shots to deliver that 1. Classes are great usually ran by the dashing Mrs. Corleone and include all skill levels but I will tell you, you're going to sweat and burn the fat. Also options to compete and fight and I will say that is the nuts and bolts to this kayo operation. After 6 months of training I was entered into Bobby Campbell's Rise of A Hero fight card @Sons of Italy. Tickets were reasonably priced standing $85 , folding chair $120, or folding table for $1000 with 6 ppl minimum. Michael wrapped my hands and gave me the There is No Tomorrow speech from Rocky 3 because he saw I was shaking with nerves. I was very lucky my opponent was a lot younger, smaller,less skilled than me and I was able to get the knockout in the 1st round. Trained on and off for few years until injuries got the best of me. Michael is as fierce of a businessman as he is fighter so make sure your monthly dues are paid on time as I forgot it was recurring and I saw I was put into collections, I said I was sorry I forgot all about this and this can hurt my credit because I was buying a house and he told me to "pay my bills" which is the same tough love you get in the ring. One thing that is so cool is that Michael will still compete and fight along with his fighters on the show just like when he fought on the legends card against Bobby Campbell at mulcahys. Michael not fighting since the head kick ko to bloodaxe in 2014 he entered the ring to the sopranos woke up this morning song with the gladiator trunks strutting around the cage while Bobby didn't take this fight seriously as he entered with hangers and little beer gut. They traded punches as Bobby's loose midsection took Corleone's body blows meanwhile a cocky Michael walked into a right hand buckling his knees but made it to the final bell. His motor skills are a little off and it looks like he shouldn't Be operating any heavy machinery but can he fight. I've been to boxing gyms all over and this place has the family feel where everyone is a team. He is way more than just a great trainer - he is a fitness guru, motivational coach, and nutritional expert all in one. They are elitist, disrespectful, unprofessional and do not follow the principles that I believe Martial Arts represents. When I attended this gym, I was fairly new to the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu/Martial Arts community and unfortunately I was not welcomed here. I was met with hostility by the owner, Mila, throughout every interaction, who doesn't carry herself as if she's running a professional business. The first time I met her, she tried to pop my cauliflower ear with her bare hands, and when I expressed that I preferred she didn't because my fiancé and I make decisions about our health together, she questioned who he was and tried to grab my ear again stating, "but I'm a doctor. Is he a doctor?" Several of their instructors exhibited unprofessional behavior on multiple occasions as well. I felt uncomfortable with their main instructor, Jeff Kim, specifically due to the numerous times he mentioned bringing in "hot girls" to attract more customers to their business. Moreover, Jeff and another teacher, Kyle, both continuously questioned my preference to only train with women (with the exception of my fiancé) and crossed my boundaries by touching me after I explicitly asked not to be touched. I do realize that BJJ is a contact sport, however I believe in the power of choosing your training partners. It's the simple concept of consent that, for some reason, the adults running this facility do not understand or respect. Outside of my individual experience here, my fiancé who has been training for several years was met with the same negative, toxic behavior. When he mentioned the racial undertones he was experiencing, the owner, instructors and several students verbally attacked us. We are extremely disappointed that they didn't do the right thing.

On top of the beautiful new space and equipment, they also offer 24/7 gym access, which is a huge plus. I was especially impressed by their Pilates studio and the quality of the brand-new equipment. While I haven't met the Pilates instructors yet, I've spent time with both owners, and they truly know what they're talking about when it comes to fitness and nutrition. With so much misinformation out there, I really appreciated how much time they took to explain things thoroughly and thoughtfully (details are personal). There is a parking lot available--just be mindful of the signage and make sure you're parked in the correct spot. I haven't explored the back of the lot yet, but there's also plenty of street parking nearby. If you're looking for a clean, modern gym with knowledgeable owners who genuinely care about your progress, Forge Fitness is absolutely worth checking out.
