I sat at the bar waiting while the bartender ignored me and served at least five people who arrived after I did. At no point did she attempt to help me--she only sent someone else over after I had already been sitting there for quite some time. Claiming she "didn't see me" is not believable when we made eye contact multiple times. This was my first visit, and it will absolutely be my last. The place itself felt rundown, dirty, and had an unpleasant smell, which made the experience even worse. I strongly encourage anyone considering coming here to read the reviews first. UPDATED REVIEW: I hadn't been here in several years, and it's different now, but still good and worth a stop. This is a smallish sports bar just a bit off of Speer near downtown, but now instead of a regular menu and sit-down restaurant setup, you order food at the kitchen window and order drinks separately at the bar. Not sure it's the most efficient way to do things, but they make it work. The food's still good, with your typical burgers and Mexican fare, and they have some drink specials. Food came out quickly after being ordered, which was appreciated. This place gets overlooked because it's not huge, but the plus side is that it's not often that busy, and you could spend an evening here watching a variety of games on the slew of TVs all around the bar area. Walking around downtown denver and spotted this bar. Was drawn in by the cutest bar dog!!! very confused why it was empty after tasting this heavenly smothered chicken burrito. We started off with the chicken tenders, which was perfectly portioned and set very well on the stomache. For a work lunch we headed to this restaurant, a favorite of my boss. Sat ourselves as it seemed that there was only one server-bartender. She brought over menus and took our drink order. I was excited to see shrimp po'boy for I had been craving one. Tacos and a burger with salad rounded up our group order. Also found out that they have tater tots and onion rings which are not listed on their menu. Score! Tater tots for the win! The place is not large but it has two tables with a lighted canopy for fancier dining. And the bar occupies about half of the room. There's a patio area but no chairs or tables in it. We were entertained by the show on the tv and our conversation while we waited for our food. The tacos looked good. So did the burger and the side salad was huge. Can't imagine what the full order would look like. The shrimp in the po'boy is not Southern style as the breading is soft and it's not as seasoned as I like. And the bun was average. The remoulade was the right amount but meh. The others enjoyed their meals very much. I would come again and just not order the po'boy. I love Dulce Vida. Jordan is the best bartender here. She is always peppy, smiling, and keeping everyone's drinks filled as well as their bellies (if needed). I just stumble across this place as my friends live across the street. The food is consistently good. Actually surprisingly good. The service is impeccable. There is a pool table and I believe some other games. We always just hang out at the bar and chat it up with Jordan. They have an awesome happy hour as well. I think it's like $4 you call it or something like that. Definitely worth checking out after work or even later. Was there yesterday to watch football. Dogs walk freely around and beg for food while you are eating. One dog peed and pooped on the floor ten feet away from me. I like dogs but this was too much. So I've been coming here for about 2 months for lunch and happy hour off and on. They just switched to a limited menu because they are closing towards the end of the year. Hit or miss. The last time I went they serve me a burrito that had a fly on it but replaced it... And still charged me... The food ran right through me... The reason I'm giving this place more than one star is because it is a local spot, great staff, they offer discounts to the local if you let them know that you're local, the food is not horrible... I used to really like this place. But the service is really awful. The rude older lady behind the bar will not even acknowledge you even after 15 minutes sitting there. They seemed to think it was funny. Pretty much made me out to be the jerk for asking for a menu and why I had not been acknowledged after sitting there for so long especially considering that the bar was practically empty. Bad vibes all around. I had to ask for my card back more than once. And paid for a drink that I didn't event consume because I was so appalled by the behavior. This review is only about drinks because that's all we did at Dulce Vida, but boy was it a treat. The prices are really reasonable and the drinks are delicious. What pushes this over the top for me is the stellar service, engaging bar staff and cool locals. It was freezing and snowy out, so we need a post-lunch spot for a drink or two. Dulce's was open, inviting and ripe with local color. They had a menu of various mules, all cheap, delicious and perfect strength. I'm surprised by all the four and five star reviews, that was not the experience my friend and I had. Maybe all the good reviews come from regulars, because that is certainly where the bartender was focused. We had to ask to get served, the bar was nowhere near busy enough for her to not notice us. My friend ordered a margarita with salt, it came with no salt. He ordered a cup of green chili and tacos, they forgot his green chili. We had to ask for napkins and silverware. And when we were ready to check out, the credit card was sitting on the bar for probably 15 minutes along with our dirty plates before she tabbed us out. We love this place. They have Mexican food for me and they have American food for my hubby. Also they are pets friendly. They have great patio that has rain drops and cool you off. The GM came out and yelled at my elderly mother saying we "weren't a good fit" for their establishment because we were upset at how the bartender was treating us. I've been here on a few occasions and I have about the same opinion of every time I have been. The bartenders do a great job but the kitchen staff seems to have a bit of a time keeping up. I have attended a few per-arranged happy hours at this location. That's where you let the bar know well in advance how many people will be showing up and about what time. So 100 people will be in and out of your bar between 4-8. They are gonna buy drinks.. they are gonna want food. The complaints I heard and have had myself... you place an order and it seems to disappear into the abyss of the kitchen. The upside is there food is decent so If it wasn't for the wait times to get said Burger and general bar fare it would have a greater rating from me. I'm loving this place for brunch. For $17 plus tax and tip, I'm getting waffle fry poutine with eggs on top and bottomless mimosas. And the poutine isn't a meal; it's several meals! Stopping by for a drink with a friend I wasn't expecting to be having a lunch, let alone a lunch I would feel obligated to review. However after quite an impressive experience at Dulce Vida today I felt a write up was well deserved. Being raised in the South I was surprised, given their name, to find that a lot of the food on their menu is Southern or "Soul" influenced. Items such as Steamed Muscles and Crab and Crawfish cakes stood out immediately but we try to stay away from any shellfish that had to travel..... However I did notice selections like Chicken Fried Chicken and Collard Greens, this is what I decided to order. Seeing as these are selections I myself prepare, I can be quite the critic, especially about the greens. I also ordered a side of Mac n Cheese. As skeptical as I was, the Greens were pretty good, while not as good as my own they were certainly delicious. The only gripe I had was that they served them with a vinegar sauce already applied ((In the south when you serve greens you usually accompany them with a bottle of vinegar based Southern Pepper Sauce and a small bottle of tabasco so the person eating them may apply at will)). That being said I cannot dock them as the greens were tasty and only slightly over cooked (not mushy like most). While the greens did have the taste and texture of being held I will let you in on a little secret, I have a recipe called 24 hr Greens that calls for the greens to be held overnight (or more) and reheated before serving. There are some recipes, like the red beans for red beans and rice, and certain Gumbos (without seafood) that are just better that way. While it is not hard to pound out and chicken fry some chicken, it was done perfectly and the gravy was a country gravy that didn't seem like a powdered snow white gravy trying to imitate country white gravy, that gets old. The only real issue was the Mac and Cheese. While still not bad, you cannot hold it as well as other foods, and rarely have I ever gotten great Mac n Cheese that was fresh, melted and not oversaturated. But I did show up at 2 PM for lunch and I wouldn't expect them to make afresh batch for little old me. Still the Mac n Cheese tasted pretty good. We ate at the bar but the bartender didnt lack on service. He was quick to suggest his favorite food and made intelligent suggestions on drinks. The drinks he made were tasty and not drowned in booze, which is best for lunch. All in all we had a great time, the music was good (rockabilly and decent bar music) and the atmosphere comfortable and open. Decent mix of people and a good location. I will certainly be back, if anything to shake the chefs hand ! read more

I always feel bad leaving negative reviews when the service was really good. The server/ bartender was very friendly and attentive. I ordered a Philly cheesesteak with waffle fries. My sister ordered chicken fried chicken with smashed potatoes and a side salad. My philly was abysmal. Dry bread that was oily on the outside for some reason. Meat was kind of dry too and cheese wasn't melted properly. Some of the "caramelized" onions were black so the burnt flavor was a bit over powering. Waffle fries were ok but the portion was pretty skimpy. My sister loved her chicken. I tasted it too and it was delicious. The three stars are for my sisters entree and the friendly service. Would not go out of my way to eat here if I were you. The bar itself is pretty cool though. Big windows that roll open like garage doors during warmer months. Decent selection of beer too. read more

Three of us stopped here after the 2018 Women's March and we snagged the last available table just after they opened at 11am. The bloody Mary was thick, spicy, and good. One of my companions and I loved the green chile, which was flavorful and spicy without being overbearing. That said, the cornbread on my benedict was burned, as was the fried chicken my other companion had. The service, though, was SUPER SLOW. It took 15 minutes to get a menu and initial drink order, another 15 to get the drinks and our order in, and then about 90 minutes after we arrived - an hour after we'd placed our food order - our server told us "someone" had canceled it! She made it right by profuse apology, ensured our food came quickly, and didn't charge us for any of it, but as a result, we didn't finish the meal until nearly 2pm. To top it off, we'd only gotten two - TWO - drink orders within those nearly 3 hours. (I should note we still tipped our server, because based on her reaction, we were sure the order cancellation wasn't her fault.) This was my first time in the place and I tend to give spots more than one chance, so I may go back for the green chile. Just NOT when they're super busy. read more

Best nachos in Denver so far made with real cheese not the canned sauce. Had a house beer and nachos for under $13. Bartender was very attentive and sweet .
