Ordered the brisket platter and while the meat had a good flavor, it was very fatty- not much of the meat was edible! Baked beans were good, Mac n cheese was just okay! I honestly was a bit disappointed because I felt like I paid $22 and waited 30 minutes on a lunch plate only to eat a few bites from the sides!

I was picking up lunch from another restaurant and while I waited, I went on my trusty Yelp app to see what else was around and realized that My Father's BBQ was in the same shopping center. I figured, why not pick up dinner... Been awhile since I'd had BBQ. I ordered a two meat combo with two sides. I chose the pork ribs and brisket, since they didn't have the beef links. The lady was super nice and she suggested calling before to see what meats they had for the day. She did say that with Covid, deliveries had not been easy, which I can totally understand. The meat smelled very good when I opened it. You could definitely smell that they smoke it. The ribs were delicious, meaty, and tender! I have to say that while the pork ribs were a good portion, the brisket was not. I had major hunks of fat attached to mine. If it's weighed like most BBQ places do, it would have been nice if they'd added a little extra meat, seeing how the big hunks of fat were inedible...at least for me. My dog sure enjoyed the fat! You can choose to get your sauce on the meat or on the side. I chose on the side, simply because I like to taste the seasoning on my meats before I add the sauce. I feel like sauces should enhance the flavor, not be the flavor. I like that they offer mild, medium, and hot BBQ sauce. I chose the hot and it was very good. I also like that it was rather thick. I hate super thin BBQ sauce, so that was a nice surprise. I ordered the greens and yams for the sides. The greens were good, but very mildly flavored. I was surprised that it wasn't straight greens, but greens and cabbage, which is still a good combination. I did have to add a little salt and pepper for flavor. The yams did not do it for me...I really hate to say that. They were not flavorful at all, and even worse was that several of the larger chunks of sweet potatoes were still hard, not fully cooked. Besides needing to be cooked longer, they also needed more cinnamon and brown sugar. I could have easily added that to doctor it up, but with the uncooked chunks, there was no point. Overall the food and customer service was great! I would definitely go back again. I want to try more of their meats and sides, including the brisket chili! They also give a discount for ILWU, which I thought was fantastic! So don't forget to show your card for discount. They are very Covid friendly, taking in person walk up orders, as well as phone and online orders. They also offer large family and party meals, which is great for the holidays or if you just don't feel like cooking.

This might be the best bbq joint in Souther California. I was immensely impressed with the items I got to try. First was the loaded fries. I honestly don't think I can eat loaded fries anymore unless it's from My Father's BBQ. So much flavor and the sauce's compliment each bite. The turkey leg with the Mac & cheese was also delicious. The turkey leg here destroys any turkey leg including the one sold in Disneyland. The bbq plater with the ribs, brisket, chicken, and chicken sausage was good. You can eat the ribs without sauce but if you add their house made sauces it doesn't hurt either. The inside gives me texas and Alabama vibes and it's very clean and neat and TVs around to catch a game. If you're a bbq lover you should add this place to your list.

I'm so disappointed. Came here hungry and was excited, got here before 5 pm and waited 10 minutes just to place my order? Why? there was not a line in front of me! finally get to order but you are out of iced tea, mashed potatoes, and greens, how it's not even 5 pm! ok whatever, now I wait 20 minutes, n nothing. another 5 minutes n I get water n bread. wait another 10 minutes to get room temperature food, no drink or utensils. come on really! my brisket is mostly fat, and now I listen to the cook threaten to walk out, while 2 other employees watch her rant! dirty tables too I would rather have good hot food without the side show! and after all that she stayed! My Father should tighten up his house!

Ordered the 2 meat combo(chicken& rib tips) . My total was $39 and some change. I got there a little before 7, they close @8. Came home and opened the plate to find 1 leg quarter and 9 dry ass tips!!! So let's due the math.... That's $20 for a leg quarter and 1 side and $20 for 9 tips and 1 side. That seems a bit over priced. I'm not really upset with the price. It's the quality of the food. The leg quarter was decent. Those tips had HEAVY SMOKE, and was DRY as the Desert. I'm not going to review the sides, I went for BBQ!!!! I'm so disappointed!!!!!!

First and foremost, yes, it's expensive. I had the 2 meat combo 2 sides and a roll: $34. I had Angus Brisket and bbq chicken plus baked beans and coleslaw. Both Brisket and Chicken were smoked to perfection. The meat was tender and juicy. Had the spicy bbq sauce. Perfect. Pricey but worth it. Pls don't change.

Just had lunch at My Father's Barbecue and I found the location a very nice surprise. This is situated in the Bodacious Q location so there are a lot of great memories. The new owners have painted but the same smoker is still there. The food portion was extremely generous and the quality was outstanding. I am definitely planning on returning to try more of their menu and the banana cream pudding looks amazing. read more

I'm not sure why everyone is raving about this place, it's mediocre. Last night I ordered two rib tip dinners with yams and BBQ baked beans. The barbecue baked beans were okay the yams didn't have really any flavor to them they were just ok... would I go here again probably not. They run out of food. No chicken, rib tips weren't ready for another 30 minutes. I mean come on as a barbecue restaurant these are things that you know are popular and that you should have enough of so when your customers come in to place orders they're ready. The rib tips had a lot of fat the meat and the seasoning was Bland. read more

Oh so good! They are right about Alabama meeting Texas. Smells like heaven to me. The brisket in the sandwich was so tender, bit right through it. And served on buttered, grilled Texas toast. The greens and cabbage side dish is amazing; no bitterness in the greens at all. My Love Interest had the chicken links, nice bite. Beans are great. read more

Staff is friendly. However the food takes long to come out the kitchen. Their are many young employees in the kitchen . They make the orders one by one. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich which was looking good until I got home to assemble the sandwich and noticed the toast was burnt !! DISGUSTING!! I waited 35 minutes and went home to that ! Stopped by for the first time since they took over the "Bodacious" spot. First and foremost the staff was very friendly . I ordered the 3 meat combo with brisket, pulled pork, and beef hot links, and I must unfortunately say that is was awesome!!!!. I had the pork rib lunch special with mac and cheese and greens (both of which were delicious, especially the greens:). Loved the ribs with the sauce that was right on the money, not too spicy, not too sweet, just enough to bring out the flavor of the meat. I enjoyed the relaxed, down home vibe with friendly staff and customers. Highly recommended for a comfort meal on a lazy Sunday afternoon. read more

This place we stumbled upon by chance, excellent! The bbq isn't over smoked or cooked, the employees are nice and friendly, some of the best bbq I've ever had in the South Bay. Who's ya daddy? My Father, of course. I now have a new favorite BBQ joint. I was tipped off to these guys by a native Carsonian, so I decided to check 'em out. Now, for me, the true mark of a great rib is how it tastes without BBQ sauce, since the sauce can sometimes mask the mistakes. So as usual, I got my Nellys (what I call "St. Louis ribs" -- get it? lol nevermind) with sauce on the side and never even needed it. Great seasoning. Great tenderness. Great flavor. I was sprung. I started writing them love letters 20 minutes after the first rib was demolished. Now, I know ribs can vary from batch to batch at all BBQ spots, but if this is their norm, then it's on and crackin' from here on out. I even tried the off-the-menu beast called the loaded BBQ baked potato, with any choice of meat as its topping and that was on point as well. Thank you, daddy...I'll get my Arnold on and I will be back! read more

Good meats but really expensive! The ribs were good, the brisket super tender and the sauce can be some of the best I've tasted but corn bread, bean and the price was horrible. I ordered the two meat combo and got four small slices of brisket with two small ribs. VERY OVER PRICED, give it a try, you'll enjoy and be mad at the same time. read more

Excellent barbecue! I had the beef ribs and my girlfriend had the brisket was so moist and yummy. Only a touch of BBQ sauce was needed to make them amazing. For sides we had the yams and BBQ beans which were also great. The mom & pop staff behind the counter were very pleasant. They are going to give the BBQ place north of them a run for their money. I expected more based on the Yelp reviews is usually what I believe. Come on Yelpers we have to do better. So, this was a Friday at 8pm I wanted the brisket and they were out. Ok, disappointment! Back up was beef ribs. It was edible not tender and a lot of fat. The BBQ sauce was good I got the spicy. Mac and cheese was different not cheesy and I think it had sour cream due to the smell and there were curds in it. Greens were good. Baked beans hmmm not much flavor. Beef links were ok but not special. Well I will not return. It may have just been a different flavor than what I'm used to as it states the this is where Alabama meets Texas. read more

The bbq was VERY GOOD the black eyed peas and macaroni and cheese was ok. The greens were way too hot. The noise level was too loud . The TV was competing against the music playing. The lady taking the phone orders could hardly hear because of it. Otherwise it was a nice experience and I will be back. read more

Been wanting BBQ for a while but we were not pleased with the service and the food. When we order we got good service. But during the process of the food being prepared it took 45 mins or longer and there was only 4 customers including us that already ordered and 3 customers about to ordered. When our food was ready, we wanted extra BBQ sauce and we asked nicely but the lady that gave us the food gave an attitude and told us next time you will be charged for the BBQ sauce. She acted like we didn't want to pay for them but we were ready to pay for BBQ sauce since when we order we told the guy that took our order that we wanted extra sauce so we could pay for it then but he said I got you so we thought it would be free. Then when we got home and we're about to eat, they forgot to give us one our a BBQ beans that we ordered and they gave us an extra Mac & Cheese that we did not order. So not sure how they messed that up. We ordered 1/2 of brisket and it was horrible. A lot of fat and felt like it was the ends in the brisket. We were disappointed with the service and the food. We were so happy to be supporting a black business and did not want to put a review but because our food wasn't good as well we just had to put a review. They really need to better everything before they try to open again. Definitely will not be coming back to this place again. read more

I attempted to visit this place before but they were closed. I was looking forward to tasting their food due the pictures they post on their site.. So while out shopping in the area I was very excited to stop by. I was first turn off when I asked for a menu. The young man taking my order pointed to the signs in the window. He never advise which h sides were included in the meals. I felt line I had to pulled the information from him. I was frustrated and my first mind told me to cancel but I was looking forward to the meal. The order taker advised I would be texted in 20 minutes. After nearly 30 minutes my husband went back to the window and was advised another 5 minutes (keep in mind there was another person who had been waiting 15 minutes before we got there, and was still waiting when we left). Although 2 two-meat 2 side dinners cost us $54.00 dollars I still held out hope. This was the most disappointing experience I have ever had. The ribs were tender but average in taste. The chicken was either overcooked or undercooked depending on which piece we bit into. Ive had much better. The sides ...mustards.... Mac n Cheese... and baked beans were absolutely horrible. Could have done better from the can. Overall this place is overpriced! Over-rated. This was a expensive experience. I could only eat a rib and a bite of chicken the rest was trashed. One more thing ... make sure you check your order.... I asked and was charged for cornbread.... but they gave toasted white bread. Just ridiculous.... Nothing Alabama or Texas about this place. read more

I came in the 2nd time last Saturday Dec 1st and again it was delicious! My husband got the Pork Rib dinner plate with hot sauce on top and I got the Brisket dinner plate with hot sauce on the side. Everything again came out so tasty! They have different level of sauces. But we always go with the spicy one and it's s pretty good if you like hot. Service is always amazing. The girls here are always nice. Which is always important when running a business. I will be back again soon! read more

My husband picked up some BBQ chicken and a medium sized Mac and cheese, and yams. While he was there the owner suggested to try his peach cobbler. He was super proud of his cobbler, so of course my husband ordered a side and surprised me with it! BEST COBBLER EVER. Seriously! I hope this is not a temporary item. I love it. The peaches are soft but crunchy sweetened with molasses of some sort and topped with the best darn crust ever! The chicken was on-spot. The sides superb. The prices are affordable and the portions are big enough for two. Thanks for your hospitality and sharing the love! It really shows through in your cooking. We will definitely be back. read more

So Ms.Shalamar has changed my mind! She was so down to earth. I had the opportunity to meet her brothers as well an everyone was very friendly and welcoming. The restaurant service was still very good. The young lady taking orders seems knowledgeable and pleasant. Good customer service is hard to find and My Father's BBQ has it in the bag. So I originally ordered 1/2lb of burnt ends and it wasn't done correctly. So Ms.Shalamar offered to make them for me her self so I agreed. I'm so happy I did they were tender and juicy. My fathers bbq will definitely be my go to spot for burnt ends now. She also threw in sides and I must say the bacon potato salad is a MUST!!! The mac n cheese is good also it's a lot better than some of the local spots. Overall I love supporting small businesses especially black owned businesses I'm looking forward to returning and trying more of her menu... Black owned- Good customer service and a clean restaurant is my reason for giving it a 3.5. Apart from that, The food, I didn't like at all. The ribs had plenty of meat but tasted boiled or something- it didn't have that BBQ taste/flavor . As I was chewing I'm thinking , this is nasty ( not disgusting), but not good- however, so meaty. Nah! Note: I had a rib two years ago from a friend and didn't care for it then, but thought I'll try it again. No thanks. read more

I haven't been here in awhile so I decided to stop on by because the BBQ is pretty good....but the customer service was not all that. An older lady with braids in a bun was the one that helped me at the register, she seemed to be more interested in everything else that was going on and it just did not seem to be welcoming at all. No smile, no thank you just gave me the number and told me to put it on my table. This isn't going to stop me from coming in but would be nice to be greeted by someone that looks like they want to be there for the business and not just for a check. read more

Food was good. I think it's better than Jay bees. The sauce is spicy for my taste. Doesn't hit you till the end of your bite. You taste a small hint of it. But just not till the end. Their chicken was a little dry IMO. All the other meats like rib tips, rib, tri tip was decent. I still think joeys BBQ in Pomona still the best. If in the area, I think this place is good. Stop by and try then. Not the best but Good. read more

Went in Sunday evening after the chargers game. I order a pound of rib tips $16.00 plus I gave the nice young lady at the register a tip. When I received my order the server opened the container and the presentation appeared great. But when I got home and seat down to eat all the rib tips underneath the top layer where burnt and looked like beef jerky. Don't serve your leftover scraps that you sold at the Charger game. read more

New spot. Good Ol bbq with excellent customer service. We were greeted the minute we walked through the door by the friendly staff. Because it was our first time here, I'm sure we had the "we're lost look" but within seconds the staff asked if it was our first visit and gave us a quick run down. I literally just finished what was good from this place. I ordered the 3 meat combo (chicken links, ribs, and chicken) with baked beans and collard greens and cabbage. I also ordered some peach cobbler as well. The meats were delicious my kids and I agreed on that. I was really disappointed with the sides. They were very flavorless. I added some hot sauce to them and it didn't help. But the peach cobbler was very delicious. My daughter found a piece of plastic on her chicken and some undercooked beans. My chicken links weren't even chicken but they were good. Half of the texas toast was soggy from the bbq sauce because it was placed on the top of the meats. read more

I had the brisket sandwich with the slaw on the side and a side of Mac n cheese. I'll never get down with slaw on my BBQ, BUT, I'm pretty sure I no longer want brisket without Texas Toast anymore. I was pleasantly surprised with how good this was. I'll definitely be coming back here and when people ask if I know of any good BBQ spots in the LA area, I'll mention them. The Mac n cheese may have had a smidge too much pepper in it but it's also still better than a lot of places I've had out here that forget that Mac n cheese isn't just noodles with cheese. I came here today because I saw that the place said " where Alabama meets Texas" mind you I'm an Alabama native and Texas is my second home so I was looking forward to trying it . I ordered chicken to go with a side of potato salad and black eyed peas. Let me start with the wait time . Never in my life have I waited an hour for some take out ! I was just hoping they took so long perfecting the food . Man was I wrong . I got home , opened up the black eyed peas and it looked like soup. I tried it and was disgusted . They weren't even done ! Well the anticipation wasn't worth the wait. I had the three meat combo pork ribs, chicken hot links and rib tips. My friend had the two meat deal chicken and the brisket. BBQ sauce was decent, but the meat was over cooked and had no taste. The two sides I had was potato salad and greens and cabbage. Not good. Greasy chicken, not thoroughly cooked, the red beans and rice looked weird and the biscuits tasted like Play-Doh with sugar added - I'm sure many have tasted a little Play-Doh when you were a kid. Furthermore, when I make a specific request and ask for a refund if something is unavailable, I expect that request to be honored. Instead of breasts, they sent thighs without any communication. If breasts aren't available, refund me and remove them from the menu, especially since I paid extra for something I didn't get. Went to My Father's BBQ last Friday for lunch and came away impressed. The wait was about 15 minutes, which honestly wasn't bad at all, and they brought the food right out to the table. I ordered the two meat plate with brisket, beef sausage, potato salad, and coleslaw with texas toast. Also the bbq sauce on the side had good smoke flavor and not too sweet. The brisket had a good mix of both point and flat. The point was juicy and rich, while the flat was a little leaner but still solid. Great smoke ring, great bark, and overall really good flavor. The in-house beef sausage was the surprise hit for me. Huge portion with two links, packed with flavor, and not overly spicy. They nailed it. Now the sides. The bacon potato salad was one of the best I've had. Chunky style just the way I like it, with good bacon flavor, not drowning in mayo, and I think there was a little green onion in there too. The coleslaw was unlike any I've had before in the best way possible. Mix of cabbage, bell pepper, red onion, carrot, and parsley with what tasted like a little rub seasoning mixed in. Not too tangy, not too sweet. I'll be ordering it every time. The atmosphere was clean, updated, and not overly smoky like some BBQ spots can get. Service was great despite some of the reviews I've seen online. You can tell they've got a loyal crowd of regulars and the staff actually knows them by name, which says a lot. This place is officially going into my BBQ rotation. Big menu, great specials, and everything tasted like people actually cared about making it right. I picked up some of their food at their spot in the Stubhub Center during a Galaxy game and it was good. Now lets remember that I was at a stadium, so my initial impression was comparing it to stadium food... which is dominated. But even for general BBQ, it's still good. Why? The smoke. Their rib sandwich had the most beautiful smoke on the meat. It was exactly what I wanted and offered a huge depth of flavor. Also, the meat was cooked well, served on the right bun for a great sandwich experience. I give them some extra credit for throwing bacon into their potato salad. One of the most flavorful and complex potato salads I've ever had. The corn could have used something... anything, really. Throw it on the grill for a second or two. This is my kind of BBQ. BBQ has various styles from Texas, Kansas, Carolina, and the list can go on. I am so glad I tried My Father's. We had the 1/2 slab combo with beans, potato salad, corn on the cob ,a side of the chicken and beef links, and peach cobbler for dessert. I didn't care for the hot links but I love the texas toast that comes with the combo. Yummy to my tummy.
