A little after this place opened, some influencers hyped this place up to where locals couldn't even really try it because the lines were out the door and the wait was just ridiculous. Now... that's good and bad because yes, it made us want to try this place even more. Those who have been going to this particular strip mall where it's at KNOW how crazy it can be and I don't just mean parking and traffic-wise. Miraculously, my wife and I were lucky enough to get really really good parking at the right place and right time! The 1st time, we couldn't really try it because of what I stated above with it being extremely viral & trendy during that time, but we were able to try the Boba spot next to it that has amazing Asian foods, sandwiches, etc. When we finally waited weeks after not being able to, we ended up enjoying the extremely welcoming customer service by the nice ladies inside working their hearts out. Yes, like others said.... it basically reminds you of a mom and pop owned version of a Caribbean meets African Chipotle with how you can pick and choose. It also reminds me of a Filipino and Chinese turo turo! Our food choices were two 32oz BYO Bowls. 1 consisted of Hot Jollof with Cajun BBQ beef, okra, yams, cauliflower, and cherry tomatoes. The 2nd bowl was a Blackened Salmon with Hot Jollof, with beans, greens and yams. Our drinks were a bottle of Jamaican Cream Soda and a juice pressed Elderflower Lemonade. Our whole order came up to around $60!!! For that price, I wish we were able to eat it right then and there in a comfortable seating area, but I understand that they just started and they're working towards more of that success; so more power and love to them! I've tasted African food from other places, as well as from family and friends. Compared to this place, of course, there's nothing like home cooking, but it's cool to have great alternatives to Chipotle and Cava thanks to Urban Comfort Foods Kitchen. Best of luck to them and their amazing staff! Cannot wait to try them again with their other menu stuff and/or when they finally get a comfy sit down spot in the future!

Brussels sprouts, crispy shallots, tomato salad, chipotle sauce, candied yams and greens. Love it here

I love this place with all my heart. The people working are salt of the earth, really kind lovely people. The crispy toppings are bombbb and so unique. Nice decor inside and big portions. Very healthy and delicious food. Very compelling restaurant concept and storytelling. I seriously only have one critique, as a Nigerian; suya should be spicier. But those candied yams + cornbread croutons are super fire 10/10 support black owned businesses!! Can't wait to come back

Urban Comfort Foods Kitchen is located in my hometown of Carson, CA so I had to go check it out - especially since it's a black owned restaurant. Think CAVA but with African/Carribean soul food! You can customize your bowl or pick a signature bowl. I got the Diaspora delight but subbed out the Brussels sprouts for red beans. Everything was pretty good! Only critique is they are a little light on the toppings. They barely put any crispy garlic on top, they may as well have left it off. They also had run out of andouille bites and I subbed for chimichurri which costs $1 extra. To charge extra and then give half a teaspoon seemed a like bit of a stretch to me. Something to note is that it is takeout only and you could be waiting in line for a while. I went on a Sunday afternoon and waited about 20-30min before I got my food. Another thing is that some of their items are made to order so they may make your bowl and you have to wait for the other items. Overall the service was great and food was good. Check this place out!

Inside: take out only; you can't eat here. But it's clean.

Finally made it here--and yes, it absolutely lives up to the hype. Service: 5/5 Every single person who helped us was incredibly sweet and professional. This alone has made me a repeat customer, and I've already referred several people. Food: 4/5 BBQ Jerk Chicken: While the food was absolutely delicious, the BBQ jerk chicken was way too spicy for my family. If you love heat, you'll probably love it--but we couldn't finish it. I did eat all the other items in my bowl, and those were excellent. Salmon Bowl: 5/5 It took a bit longer since the salmon is cooked fresh, but my husband absolutely loved it. I'm not sure if the salmon is wild-caught, so I'll be asking next time. Facility: 3/5 The space is nice and clean, but ordering was a bit challenging at first because it was hard for them to hear us. The music was eventually turned off, which helped, but having glass covers over the food would really improve sound carry. Parking: 3/5 With the popularity Urban Comfort is sure to gain, parking will likely become an issue--the shopping center is small and already quite busy. Can't wait to go back!

So Tay's Food Tour sent me, and everybody and their mama, because the day I went (1/14) was the day after he posted his viral video about Urban Comfort Foods Kitchen on his Instagram. Never in a million years did I think I'd stand in line for an hour and a half just to get a bowl, but here we are. I got lucky finding parking, but honestly, good luck to anyone else. It's in a tiny strip mall with a very tight parking lot. The owner, Janelle, came outside and personally thanked everyone for their patience, which was really appreciated. You could tell she and her staff were not prepared for the massive influx after the post--they were constantly cooking more food and even had to run out to buy more salmon. What I loved most was the vibe in line. Everyone was understanding, patient, and genuinely happy to support a Black-owned business. The energy was all love. The food was definitely worth the wait. I ordered two signature bowls: the Brown Stew Jackfruit Bowl and the Caribbean Jerk Bliss Bowl. By the time I got to the front, they had run out of some veggies like the braised collard greens and Brussels sprouts, so I had to substitute. The bowls were still good, but I would've loved to try them with all the intended ingredients to really experience how everything pairs together. I'll definitely be back; just after the hype dies down.

Just tried this new eatery and I'm so glad I did! I ordered the garlic shrimp harvest bowl and wow--so flavorful, fresh, and perfectly balanced. You can really tell care goes into both the ingredients and the preparation. On top of the amazing food, the staff were incredibly kind and welcoming, which made the whole experience even better. This place is truly a much-needed addition to the community, offering healthy options with cultural flair that are hard to find elsewhere. I'll definitely be back and can't wait to try more from the menu. Highly recommend checking it out!

This has been our favorite organic spot Love the food so fresh and staff were all nice and accommodating

Black-owned fast-casual bowls fusing West African and Caribbean flavors in a build your own bowl style !! The jerk chicken was really fresh their shrimps were fried to perfection and they have great ingrdients. they could get even more authentic with it like put mac n cheese and fried turkey on the menu lol i loved it

Urban Comfort Food has been heavily discussed during these past few months and it looked like a place I'd definitely want to try. Parking here is extremely limited and tight so that can be a drag. When I entered, I thought the ambiance was pleasant and the options were pretty extensive and offered a lot of options. I also realized that the increased engagement had been a lot but it seemed as though the individuals were very new and confusing items along with the small portions. There was a bit of a wait for the salmon and due to the small space, it was a bit cramped trying to hear our orders and make room for others entering. When trying the food, I thought it was decent but the different selections I added was a bit overwhelming with all the things in the bowl. I was glad I tried this place but I probably wouldn't think about it for a while. The owner was also friendly and helpful!

    Tami W.

The place is very small and the parking lot is a mess! Super small. That being said, the food was so delicious! There're so many options to choose from. You get one protein, but you can have as many of the add ons as you want. Salmon and shrimp are made to order and will take at least 15 minutes additional time. The line may be wrapped around the building and only so many people can come inside at a time. Be patient. I had the Suya Beef.....so yummy! The line moves kind of slow because there're sooo many choices and no one is rushed. Your food will probably be a little cold. Just heat it up!

Jerk chicken, greens, sweet potatoes, curry chickpeas, kale slaw, mango salsa topped with pepper jam all on top of jollof rice.
    Kaye Y.

Such a great addition to the area, located in a small shopping area. There are no dine in options, only mobile and take-out. That being said, the food service was amazing!, there was a bit of a wait to order, the inside is very small which makes the order area crowded. HOWEVER, the staff is patient and didn't rush my many inquiries as I built my bowl. Each person in my party got the same treatment, which made it worthwhile to wait. As itmes where running out, they quickly replenished them with minor wait times. I will say, if you order shrimp or salmon it's 15 min additional since it's cooked to order. My bowl was flavorful, ingredients were fresh and tender, the jerk chicken was delicious, everything was an amazing jubilee of flavors that hit all the right spots, heat, sweetness and robust. Be prepared for parking,it's horrible and not many available spots. The food made everything worth it and I'd happily do it again.

I had the jerk chicken Greens Red beans Sweet potatoes

I have to say this food is good. I see why they have long lines. The service was great, the staff were friendly. I rate this 10/10 Forgot to take a before picture

Had such a pleasant first experience at Urban Comfort Foods! Service was so friendly and welcoming and the interior was small yet charming. Once you walk in all the freshly made food smells incredible. I went with the Jollof Heatwave- beef and greens were tender atop the fluffy jollof rice. I also love that I'm given the choice to select a signature bowl or customize to my liking. I wouldn't say that my bowl had much heat but it was definitely spiced and delicious. Parking is a little tough but well worth it. If you get seafood it is made to order so be prepared to wait a bit- salmon seems to be very popular. I look forward to my next visit! Very delicious- highly recommend!

The same thing happened on our second visit, and we were honestly heartbroken. However, Sunny (I think that was his name) went above and beyond to make sure we still got to experience their food. Since then, we've returned twice more with friends, and the food has been absolutely amazing. The shrimp is hands-down my favorite, and the karaage chicken with the green sauce is super addictive. That was bad, in any case, I ordered the kalua and shrimp. The shrimp was extra, but was pretty good. I am glad I ate right away since the shrimp was not overtly deep fried (this means the sauce on top was going to drench it, making it a soggy deep fried batter if I did not eat right away). The sauce it comes with is not bad, it seemed like a flavorful batter. The pickled onions were not a palet cleanser, but was sweet and went well with the kalua pork. The pork itself was definitely on the saltier side, I would not recommend eating this without the rice! It was that salty! Together it was good. They put on a lot of rice, no substitutes like Mac salad unfortunately. But what was bad is that the shrimp is extra but they put a bed of rice underneath so you don't really get as much protein as you would like.

Really glad we got to try this place! It's hard to find a Malaxiang guo spot in Torrance/gardena…read more we always have to drive super far. The spot used to be a chicken spot that they taken over.we had a chance to chat with the owners they were super nice. The service is fast and the food hits the spot. The place is clean and there is plenty of parking! I love how it's kinda like a sports bar vibe, we went to watch a FIFA game, there was TVs, drinks and of course good food. We only tried two dishes but can't wait to go back and try more!

Spicy lovers, this place is for you!…read more Atto took over Bomb Chicken and did it justice by opening til midnight!!!! If you read my other reviews you can tell how important closing late is for me ;) The Sichuan-style malatang is such a treat. It's got everything you need, from lotus root to bok choy to the beef. The spicy, numbing broth was very good, and it all goes down extremely well with rice and soju. I am a little disappointed in the guo bao rou; the pork was fried well but the sauce was too sweet and syrupy for me. I've had this problem at another Chinese-Korean spot so I think it's my own personal issue with the dish and not Atto's fault. The inside is spacious-ish; enough space for some groups, but their parking lot is tiny and you might need to park on the street. I saw they were hosting some Korea world cup games and it looked so fun!! But the reservations booked insanely quickly. Overall I would come back for the malatang but also hope the menu expands a bit beyond the large stews for smaller groups. Definitely a contender for late night eating and drinking!
