This has been one of my favorite bars since I was in college. Cheap food, huge portions, and strong drinks are a sure success, and My Father's PLace has them all. Servers are always friendly, and I have never had an issue getting a table or being served in a timely fashion. I ended up getting the three-egg breakfast (over-easy) with hashbrowns and pancakes. Everything was cooked well, including the eggs which were nice and runny. My partner ordered the steak quesadilla, which he said was excellent. My recommendation to anyone coming here for the first time is to go with their breakfast because it is a staple, but I've never had a bad meal here either way. It can be a challenge to find convenient parking nearby, especially if there's something going on at the Convention Center. Extremely poor food service on the bar side. Have been here twice now in as many weeks, sat at a table without being spoken to by any staff for 15+ minutes. I understand if you're busy but the lack of communication, both between staff and customers, is disappointing to say the least. This place was a pleasant surprise! We went here after a night out normally places in Portland close so early we had a little hope in our search for sustenance. Particularly unforgivable was the coffee, which was literally flavorless and served with artificial creamers. What respectable dive bar doesn't at least serve great coffee? We didn't come here for gourmet dining but, based on other Yelp reviews, we did expect more. In Portland for a conference and wanted some place chill to enjoy dinner. We were suggested My Father's Place by a person working at the front desk at our hotel. She described the decorations as part Halloween, part Christmas. She was spot on hahaha. I also saw some V-day decorations too so add that to the list. We stopped by on Tuesday night around 6-6:30p. It was medium busy. Every booth in one room was taken but they had another section that was open. I ordered the Liver & Onions. I wanted to make this review because I looked and didn't see a picture of the liver and onions. I hadn't had liver and onions in such a long time so I wanted to give it a try. It was so good. It came with mashed potatoes and a side of vegetables. Mashed potatoes, on point! I honestly could do without the veggies. They were green beans, corn and carrots maybe? Like the frozen veggie mixes that come from the store. I could see some spinach making this dish better. They were green serving size if definitely large in my opinion. If I lived here, I would have taken a to-go box. Apologize for the picture. I remembered after I finished eating. I believe the L&O came with 2-3 fillets of liver. My group went to My Father's Place on Saturday 3/29 around 1030pm. This location was chosen since it's one of the fewer places open late that has activities (arcade and board games), full meal service, and a bar. The bathroom was decently upkept for a dive bar. Unfortunately the service was terrible. I acknowledge it was a a busy late night, but food and drink items placed with the first order were unfulfilled up to an hour later. Our group ordered 1 beer, 1 burger, mozzarella sticks, 1 coke, 1 cranberry vodka, tater tots, and 1 cheeseburger. After 30 min only the beer, burger, and mozzarella sticks came out. Another order was placed for a Bloody Mary, vodka Red Bull and a 2nd cheeseburger -- these two new drinks came but no sign of the coke or vodka cran. After reminding the waitress of the coke and vodka cran, those eventually came out but still no sign of the tots or 2 cheeseburgers (a whole hour and a half passed at this point). We asked to remove the tater tots order but to keep the 2 cheeseburgers, half an hour later only 1 cheeseburger was cooked. The drinks and food were moderately priced, but for the amount of waiting, reminding staff of ordered items, and seeing other customers who came long after our group arrived get their food -- it was not a great experience all around. read more

If you have followed along with my reviews, you know that I'm a dive bar FANATIC. My Father's Place was a happy mistake of a discovery, as it was right next to my hotel when I was in town. When my Lyft dropped me off at my hotel I could see the dim lighting and multicolored Christmas lights along the ceiling at the bar and just KNEW I would be stopping in. I checked out their website before heading in because I wanted to know more, and this place really checks all the boxes for people who like the no-frills bars. Open year round, serves breakfast all day, and most importantly, heavy pours and strong drinks. My kind of place. Bartenders here are kind without pestering you too much, but always ready to help when you need them. They didn't have a giant selection of hazy's but I can't complain, because they had a beer or two I was a fan of. My usual shot of tequila was poured very generously and to my delight, their pickle juice for picklebacks is DELICIOUS and not that fake atomic neon green stuff some bars pass off as pickle juice. IYKYK. To cap off the night I got a steak quesadilla to go and it was the perfect snack to close out the evening. Definitely dive bar food, but it hit the spot. Overall, if I was a PDX native, I would be here on a regular basis. Definitely go if you get the chance to swing on in (and if this sounds like your vibe). read more

Despite my order being wrong food was good so at least thats a plus. Keep Portlands Diners open... And weird! :) Came here for breakfast and was not disappointed at all. Best damn bacon and biscuits in the city! Wow! Service was a tad slow, probably because it was Sunday brunch, but they got my food out in a timely manner. The inside is your classic NY brownstone and diner booths and counters. The items all around the place are kinda strange, but I guess it's a part of that "Keep Portland Weird" vibe! I've never been much of a chicken fried steak guy but this one was pretty good. Not your typical restaurant but a lot of comfort foods on the menu. Decent bar vibe with a distinct look and the service you'd expect. Gravy tasted like a can of Campbells soup with the consistency of being in the can 30 secs ago then flung the not microwave for 15 second warm up. Chunky , barely warm and unpleasant processed taste. Tried to eat two bites but nah. In a word, Disgusting. Good cheap coffee. Didn't drink any booze so can't comment on the bar. But fathers is a bit different it's a diner that also have a bar. Good thing you can have the full menu the whole day - even breakfast. I decided for pork chops and a side of salad. Impressive was the speed of service. The salad came almost immediately together with the ice tea. Good start. The pork chop came not even six minutes later. It tasted all fine - it missed some finesses but for a late meal it was all fine. The pork it self was a bit over but not to a mess and it had a good pan roast taste to it. The mashed might be of a package, the gravy was not just a blob so that was fitting. The veggies had some bite left. I would definitely come back here! I'm a picky eater especially when it involves biscuits and gravy! I got the country breakfast with a few eggs, patty, biscuits and gravy, and hash browns. I also tried the liver and onion dish and unless you love cow liver, I would not recommend haha. The cow liver taste and smell was so strong. After ordering your food at the bar, you receive a number and it takes about 20-40 minutes to receive your food. The atmosphere is extremely busy, inviting, and friendly! They also hold stand up comedy shows here, which are okay but it's something to do while you're waiting for your food. read more
