I read here one of my favorite joints to have a drink and breakfast. This definitely is from my past before the restaurant side closed this was my favorite Breakfast and stop over after work, I retired 20+ years ago. I then lived in the same neighborhood only a few blocks away. So it was handy and being open 24 hours as I recall? Great Omelettes, chicken fried steak among othere sorted dishes? 5 STARS as it was then *****!

Chill atmosphere! They've got pool tables and slot machines, which definitely adds to the fun vibe. Our server was friendly and attentive, which I appreciated. I ordered the grilled Malibu chicken burger with a side of potato salad and pineapple juice. Unfortunately, the burger was a bit dry and didn't have much flavor. The potato salad was on the mushy side, and the pineapple juice came out warm so I had to add ice myself. Still, it's a solid spot to hang out and shoot some pool!

Disclaimer: I can count on one hand how many times I've left a restaurant without eating my food and/or taking it to go We had been thinking about going here for quite a while and decided to go one evening for dinner. It's been around for a long time and we like to explore dive bars and restaurants. We had the patty melt and steak sandwich. Both were decent, but nothing amazing. Service was friendly, things were clean, and the drinks were cold. Overall, a good experience with minimal complaints. We decided to go back the following night, for the prime rib special. This is only offered on the weekend. The prime rib, ordered medium rare, was a gray color and cooked well done (the red bar lights make it appear more red). The temperature of the steak was the most concerning part as the garlic bread and other parts of the meal were warmer than it was. With the steak being cooked well done, you would think that it would be pretty warm but it wasn't. This time, there was grime in one of the drink glasses. It was such a disappointing and concerning experience that after just a few bites, we opted to leave the meals and go somewhere else. We paid over $60 for eating about 5% of our meals. We will not be returning to eat here and if anyone we know considers going, we will deter them.

Firstly, the "cafe" was closed when I arrived around 4:30pm. There wasn't any parking on the one side of the building, but I found more on the other side. I walked around back to the bar, (no minors allowed) since the parking lot was full, and saw myself to a booth. They had about 8 different booths, Plus a bunch of tables. TBH the booths are really not very cushiony, but kind of hard on the butt. The back of the both is nice, with lumbar support placement and much more soft. The table was sticky on the edge but clean on top. The tables can be pushed forward for customized fit. I waited for service 10 minutes, then saw an older black gentleman leave without having been waited on (I had seen him try to wave down a bartender earlier). A Spanish speaking buswoman brought me water and silverware and offered me coffee around 5:05pm. I said no coffee but maybe a gin and tonic? She pointed to the bar and indicated she would tell the bartender. I then asked her if I need to walk up to the bar to order, and she said no but then walked away. I waited another 5 minutes, at which point the bartender came over to apologize that she didn't see me (5:10). She took my order of a veggie omelet (for here) and a chicken taco salad (to go, for my spouse) and was more than willing to swap out the potatoes for their vegetable mix (since I am diabetic, I appreciated that). She was the only waitstaff serving the entire place, but kept a smile and peppy attitude. I was glad they still served breakfast at night. I gave her very vague instructions for a drink ("juice and vodka") and she made a delicious tropical punch cocktail for me. The food arrived at 5:21pm. The omelet was tasty; although the eggs were merely placed on top of the spinach-mushroom-onion mix, I was happy with the quantity of spinach to egg ratio. I don't recommend salting anything until after you taste it. Compared to other diners , IT WAS A STEP ABOVE for sure. However, the vegetables were still cold and too hard/raw. I advised the waitress, told her i was writing a review, and she offered to bring another serving of vegetables. That arrived within 5 minutes. I am pretty sure they had only been microwaved, because they were lukewarm and still harder than al dente.(cauliflower, broccoli, carrots) I will say they had a nice butter parsley sauce, which would have put it a step above other diners if it had been cooked longer . The music was (awesome) 80's throwback! I loved it. But I'm 56. There are pool tables and gambling machines, including what looked like keno. I felt very at home. Another mixed race couple sat down at the table next to me when my food arrived, and waited for service. She went directly up to the bar (maybe to let them know they were here and order soup)at 5:22 and got their soup by 5:38. Bartender checked on them at 5:42 to see if they needed anything else, and then rechecked with me at 5:43. They ordered more food. It came at 6pm. I don't think there is any race issue here, just low staffing levels. I think the bartender did an amazing job for being the only waitress in a place full of about 30-40 people. Just be aware it might help you avoid frustration if you order at the bar.

The walls are full of bright, colorful artwork that is for sale and made by the resident artist. The uptown shrimp & grits are a must order. They were decadent, rich in flavor, and cheesy. The country boy breakfast was also a delicious option. I enjoyed the creamy and well seasoned gravy that comes on top of it.

However, now that I've been a few times, I notice little details like "why do the hostesses continue to seat people right next to each other?". There are plenty of other open tables that people could be seated at, but it really eliminated our ability to have a connecting conversation, as it felt like we were a party of 6 with us 2 in the middle!!! And 2 of the people clearly had some personal "issues" going on and were very disruptive. The space is small, but the visual displays of all the artwork make it a talking point conversation. The main artist was on hand & we found ourselves with the opportunity to talk with him while we waited on our food (which took a lot longer than expected). Funny, we ordered 1st & ours came out 10 mins later after everyone else. I decided to go with the Chicken and Waffles, and we also had the shrimp and grits. The food hit on all cylinders, and the only thing that was needed next was to make a move for a cocktail and a little walking in downtown to change it up. Will definitely return, but I will be more direct and vocal about seating that's for sure.

Poor thing works in the admin office and helps out on the weekends in the restaurant. Picture this: Saturday morning brunch in downtown portland and a breakfast place in a hotel lobby. Empty. We watched two tables leave without ordering. We waited until our food arrived to receive a drip coffee and a hot tea. (And when it did arrive the coffee was a cold cup of machine rinse. I really wanted what many have posted as the Hawaiian Breakfast: 2 eggs, 2 spam, 2 Portuguese sausage, white rice. But it wasn't on the menu. Our server accommodated my request (thanks to the pictures from Yelpers). But when it arrived it was 3 eggs, 2 spam and rice. Overall the menu is confused. Is it a Hawaiian theme or not. Scant options is rice. Lots of potatoes. Even the condiments were confused; no soy or siracha on the table but ketchup and Tapatio. The general lack of caring by the management is what sticks with me. The sad bowl of sugar packets, jam packets, creamers and stir sticks all thrown together on the table like a mistake. But when I asked for honey or soy our server had to go to the kitchen and get side dishes of these. C'mon y'all. Pay attention to the details. Your customer sure are.

The inside is gorgeous. The walls are painted various shades of greens making it bright and gives off a soft and natural feel. Given I was dining solo, I decided to seat at the bar located off to the left. It seats 12 comfortably. A big plus for me are the seats. They had a high back and are super comfortable. I could see sitting for hours gabbing with friends. Nice upbeat electronic music played in the background. Loud enough to hear but soft enough that you can hear who is next to you. I ordered the Omelette du jour - Three egg omelette special with bacon, spinach, caramelized onions, gorgonzola and blue cheese. It was fantastic. The first thing that hit my palate was the blue cheese and caramelized onions. Delicious combination. I was happy to see that the omelette was overflowing with caramelized onions as I love them. The accompanying roasted potatoes were cooked perfectly. I also got an espresso martini to wake me up and give me a buzz to start my day. Upon first impression, if I lived in Portland, I would come here weekly. I could see this being the place for brunch with girlfriends to catch up over cocktails.
