We had a good experience at Radio Room. From the moment we walked in, the staff was warm and welcoming. The service was smooth and efficient--our server was knowledgeable about the menu and offered helpful recommendations. The food took a while to come out and everything looked great. Everything was good for the most part, but the shrimp in the shrimp in grits didn't taste fresh. The Mac and cheese was bland so our friend ordered a side of tomato soup to dump into it to give it some flavor. The ambiance was relaxed yet stylish for an old school vibe. There was a live DJ spinning vinyl records which was pretty cool. Our server was nice and when she noticed the shrimp wasn't touched on the shrimp and grits, she asked if everything was okay. I checked the menu twice. Then I checked it again. Because everything felt... suspiciously cheap. In a good way. Like you've discovered a pricing loophole that the rest of Portland hasn't noticed yet. Menu is refreshingly simple too. One page. No 17-section manifesto about locally sourced radishes. Just food. I came here with my family today, we just got drinks and happy hour foods. Honestly very glad we only got happy hour foods since they were cheaper, because had any of the food we tried been full price, it would've been an even greater disappointment. I got the chicken sandwich, bread was horrible, chicken overly salty and just tasted bad. Didn't even eat half of it, left it on the plate. Chicken wings took forever to come out which is understandable but they were so crispy, borderline burnt even, tough to chew. The birria tacos aside from the tiny portion size, not a great taste, the consome was super bland and runny, the tacos with the pineapple salsa just taste strange. The service was alright, the server was nice and all, it was impressive she took all our orders and remembered who got what, and didn't need to write any of it down. However, she just didn't check on us enough, never asked how the food even was (I would've been honest about it) and just overall the service was so-so. The saving grace here is the drinks, just based on assumption because I personally didn't try any of them. They have a good happy hour for the drinks, I believe starting at $9 for a decent selection. In saying all that I definitely wouldn't return here, the food was just overall not worth it, even at happy hour prices. Probably just stick to drinks here for happy hour if you're interested, but just know there are other places with better food out there. read more

Found this place and so glad we walked in! Like stepping back into the 1950s. Adorable ambience. Great service. We did not have time to stay for a bite to eat, but their menu looked amazing. We ordered drinks which were truly wonderful. A drink called the Nordic Negroni. It was really wonderful, made with aquavit. If you like licorice, this is the drink for you. The restaurant area is diner-like and the bar feels a little dark and divey, but in all the right ways. I'll be back for the vibes. My spouse and I popped in for a quick pre-dinner drink. Interesting location. I felt like I was in a residential neighborhood. Parking wasn't easy to find but we got lucky as someone was pulling out of a spot around the corner. The restaurant itself had great curb appeal, nice patio and fun indoor decor! Our server was attentive and efficient. The old fashioned was ok but tasted too syrupy. The matcha martini was good for a couple sips but way too sweet and creamy, towards the end it tasted like melted ice cream. The vibes are definitely different since it still feels like a late night feel in the early morning. Black Market Hash was good but not as filling as I hoped. Potatoes were crunchy and I'm sure the eggs would've tied it all well together, but paying an extra $4.5 just for two eggs is crazy. I know egg prices are still rough, but damn. Service was incredibly spotty as it got busier. Our waiter was certainly hustling as it got busier. It was tough to get his attention even when we wanted to order and even pay, I'm sure we were sitting looking for him or trying to make eye contact to get him to come over for a good 10-12 minutes at the end. It has a unique space where you can be in the retro room with a fireplace, the back dining area, or even upstairs enjoying the sun. The menu has a blend of classic brunch items, mexican items, and even southern items. So you can really get a mix depending what you're craving. I would recommend the shrimp & grits and the chilaquiles were OK with the chorizo but this batch slightly burned the tortilla chips so just something to be aware of. I would pass on the fries since they're not the crispiest but it is a good item to share if you wanted to get it for the table. It is a large space but service here was attentive and always quick to refill drinks and get our checks.
