I was told that this type of lip shape was something "only colored women have." At the time I didn't fully process how inappropriate that comment was, but looking back, it was completely unnecessary and unprofessional. If the result wasn't suitable for my anatomy or couldn't be achieved safely, that could have been explained without bringing race into the conversation. I don't care how long ago it happened. It was not okay, and I think people should be made aware of the kind of comments that were made during my appointment. Consultations should be based on anatomy, safety, and the client's aesthetic goals. Not racial stereotypes.
