Absolutely the best managed fishing operation in Montauk…read more Fluke fishing trips, of the three I have been on all included multiple double digit size fluke for the boat with everybody catching.... This last trip - unfortunately I wasn't feeling well - but the fishing was insane with hundreds of keepers caught and multiple double digit fluke on top of monster sea bass... one person had two over ten himself and like a dozen others in the 5-8# class. This boat has a solid reputation and I have never seen a customer unhappy. The mates are super friendly and observant. My co worker , whom frequents this boat (the only boat he fishes here), tells me it is a family run operation. This is evident in the mates they hire as well. If the "doin it live on the Miss Montauk" t-shirt ever becomes available I want a few! Please! Do it live!

The problem we encountered was a pretty sour attitude from our guide...to a high degree actually. Given his fee ($800, easily the highest of the four guides we used) and his relatively small boat (the smallest of the four we used), you'd think he make up for it with a good nature. Nope. The day on the water was tough and he had to work hard to put us on fish, which he did. All day long. That's a plus. The problem is, all the captains we used worked their rears off. They just did so at rates and with attitudes that were much more reasonable.

I spend a lot of time fishing, and you'd think I would be better at it than I am. I do not spend a lot of time fly fishing, but I love each time I have gotten out there. Not only did Ernie get us to the fish, he gave us clear instructions to stay at opposite ends of the boat, kept us orderly and to work on our casts regardless of the conditions. First day was WINDY! I am a return customer and will continue to be. I learn more each time we fish together and Ernie's willingness and enthusiasm out there on Monday and back at 'em Tuesday was something that I will always remember. Watch the way he approaches fish vs some of the other guides, he is always aware and that allows him to put you in the most optimal spot to engage from. The the other person that gave a 1 star. I find a lot of what they wrote comical as I fish this…read moreboat regularly. I normally get to the boat at 5:15 for 6am departure. There are days when the boat is more crowded than other days but for the most part there is always room to fish. Nobody has to sit down so others can fish. Capt Mark goes above and beyond to accomodate his customers. The mates are always attentive to everyone's needs. Are fast to net fish and untangle lines. If the lines are badly tangled they will quickly get them straightened out. The day is from 6am til 3pm. You will spend 1 hour each direction to and from the fishing grounds. you are fishing from 7am til 2pm with some small moves to get to the right spots to drift. People who are telling you where to sit are probably regular customers that are just trying to help you out by pointing out where there is room on the boat. If you didn't catch fish it is probably because you didn't know what you were doing or the drift conditions were just not good for that day. The fishing at Montauk has been stellar all season. 50% of the customers are regulars who are repeat customers as they know they have a good chance at catching a doormat. Dennis is the cook who also cooks up some great burgers and fish tacos along with breakfast. Sounds like the person from San Fran was simply upset that their group did not catch a fish.

He took us to many fishing spots around the Montauk lighthouse, some closer to shore and others a ways out. He had many spots marked on his Gps so they were easy to get to. He baited all of our lines, measured all of our catches so we had keepers to take home. He also filleted some sea bass for us at the end. Super memorable fishing trip, look forward to the next one with Captain Bill.

We did a lot of research and were unable to book a sailing adventure until we spoke with Afton from our hotel. Afton was fantastic and was able to find Island Girl Adventure for us. Words can't express the amazing experience we all had. Bill & Maggie picked us up from the Marina at Gurney's Star Island. They were super friendly and down to earth captains! They took us on a beautiful Sunset Cruise around Montauk and treated us to chilled champagne and gourmet appetizers! We listened to relaxing music and had many laughter's during the two hour trip. The photos we captured during this sunset cruise are priceless and we're all left with beautiful memories that will last a lifetime! My 2.5 year old daughter joined us on this trip and wore a life jacket. According to the captains she was the youngest guest/sailor on their charter :) She had lots of fun as she watched the sunset on the ocean! We can't wait to return and book a Fishing Trip w/Bill & Maggie! We highly recommend them and can't wait to see them again soon!
