This is a review of the experience of taking the Montauk ferry to Block Island. The experience was seamless. I bought the ferry tickets online as well as the parking pass for the day. The process for checking in on arrival was laid out in the reminder email sent about a day before the trip which I appreciate. We were issued paper tickets and our parking pass for the designated Viking fleet parking. The boat left on time and departed on time from the new harbor at Block Island. The ferry itself was fine nothing fancy no frills but consistent with other Northeast Island ferries I've been on. Staff was courteous. It was a fun day trip and Viking Fleet made it easy for us to explore a new island. I would definitely go on this ferry again. read more

I paid for our two day trip 60 hours. We got on the boat at 6 AM. We left the dock and drove for 18 hours to get to the spot. The Fishing was extraordinary, but she was only allowed to keep three fish now we were supposed to fish for Tuna and mahi-mahi in two hours. We had the limit of to the whole boat but we stay there from 10 o'clock to 7 o'clock in the morning with no purpose we couldn't keep the fish so why didn't he take us somewhere else to fish with something else? I don't need that The accommodations was horrific me myself. I'm 6 foot five. It was 1415 people on a boat I had no place to lay down. I set up you had to say about 50 hours between a table and a chair. I've been on eight day trips seven day trips five day trips. This was a two day trip and it was the worst in my life, I will never go back on that trip again, but I don't understand. Why didn't you take us somewhere else to get some different kind of fish what do you do with all the extra fish if we only can keep three fish because guys fish all night long till 7 o'clock in the morning and then we had to endure another 18 hours to get back to the dock I was so disappointed but like I said when we got to the spot, the fishing was phenomenal, but it didn't make no difference. We only could keep three fish so why would you keep us there all night long all that fish that was caught and everybody only could keep three fish. All the rest of fish is your fish I was just so disappointed. I usually travel to San Diego to go fishing for a tuna, but I saw that the Viking fleet fish for tuna and all of the species, but this is what they done to us not trying to bash anybody, but that was just disgraceful and I was Totally disappointed and couldn't wait to get off that damn boat on top of that we were supposed to fish for two days we fish one day and he brought us back into the dock so I paid for two days and we only fish for one day and brought us back inOught to say that I don't think I'll ever go back on the bike again. read more

My brother and I had an outstanding time on the Viking 1/2 day fishing trip. We got there early to secure a spot on the boat. The boat was filled. The minute we got out to the ocean, my brother put his line in and he caught a 20" + flounder. He later caught a sea bass and I caught a porgie - all keepers. We caught several fish throughout the morning but they were too small to keep. The crew was outstanding. Professional, courteous, reassuring to those not so familiar with fishing and just overall great team. John, Paul were super capable and patient as well as knowledgeable. When we thought my line got caught on a rock John helped us with the pole and said that was not a rock and he "felt the head move" - that's the mark of a true fisherman. We pulled in a a large skate and tossed it back. The skate had sucked up the bait and was not letting go. All in all, we loved it. We will be back. Thank you for a wonderful experience. read more

We made reservations to fish on the Viking for Oct 3rd. We drove over 350 miles to get there, paid for an expensive motel, got up at 3AM to get a spot on the boat. When we got there the boat was so crowded that we couldn't get on the boat. It was very clear that they over booked. Talk about being so mad that I had smoke coming out of my ears. I used to fish on this boat but have avoided it due to a nasty crew member on board who has made berating comments directed towards me for absolutely no reason. Yesterday I decided to give this boat a try once again and he was working on the boat. I had to walk over to him directly to let him know I did not wish for him to make obnoxious comments directed towards me in front of other passengers. Went on the 1/2 day AM fishing trip this past weekend. Was my first time sailing with Viking. It was a last minute trip to Montauk, booked online the day before and showed up with my tackle and cooler at 7:30am for the 8am departure. Got my ticket and jumped on the boat with no issue although by the time I showed up the lot was basically full and I think I got the last parking spot in the lot. Show up a little earlier than suggested to secure parking. I don't consider myself an expert whatsoever but I am a fairly experienced saltwater kayak angler, and I've spent many hours on open boats and charters in the Eastern LI area. This trip is definitely geared towards beginners so if that's you, you're in the right place. The mates set everyone up with house rods and reels and baited their hooks for the first drop down. They gave individual tutorials on how to work the setup and helped people de-hook their catch. Most of the mates were very friendly, as were the folks in the front office. They realize most of their guests need help and that is how they conduct themselves. The fishing was OK. The captain put us on a few spots and there were some drifts that were better than others. I think we hit 6-7 unique spots in total during the 4 hour trip and we didn't dwell too long in any one area. It's all bottom fishing; there were porgy/scup, Black Sea bass and fluke being taken although the bite was not there on some drifts. The conditions were not optimal but most people did OK regardless. The views of the Montauk lighthouse and surrounding areas are very nice (obviously not specific to this charter) and if you're looking for a low key fishing excursion this trip will fit the bill. You can't control the bite on any given day but the captain seemed to be dialed in, which is what counts. That said if you are a novice and considering booking ANY fishing excursion, you REALLY should do a little advanced prep to have a good experience - especially if sailing with kids. Check the weather, winds and tides (call the boat the day before or check with a local tackle shop). This happened to be a much rougher than average day on the water and there was a lot of breakfast being hurled up. Take Dramamine and do NOT eat a rich breakfast, tough weather or not. Think toast and coffee. Do not wear nice shoes or clothes! That applies to ANY charter fishing experience not just this one. A lot of folks were not prepared and unfortunately the swells wrecked their day. Stay home if you can't deal with the waves. Despite losing the ticket fare, that may be a better outcome than seasickness. Bottom line, perfect open boat service for the beginner. Just bring a cooler with some ice (for your fish), hats, sunscreen and Dramamine and they will handle the rest. And don't forget your mask. read more

Had such a great experience on the Viking Fleet from Montauk to Block Island I might just have a birthday party on here, just for fun. Costs were nuts but hey, inflation am I right? We had to pay to park but they had a large lot that could accommodate many more vehicles than they would ever need. The boat itself was awesome. Staff was fantastic, they all helped lug our heavy luggage onto the boat and there was so much space for it all. We were about 14 people heading to a wedding in Rhode Island. The ride was incredibly smooth and gorgeous. So many photo OPS. They had a bar downstairs with take home glasses and mugs, snacks, delicious margaritas I mean it was awesome. Two bathrooms on board, quick note the toilet does a continuous flush, it's weird but kind of funny, just be aware. The ride to Rhode Island was quick and enjoyable. They drop you off at the dock in Block Island with a super cool outdoor restaurant bar with live music. It was all around perfect and a highly highly recommend them!!! read more

My first time with them , Very poor service actually no service , bait is distributed once after that you are on your own , boat is very old very poor structure, captain is the worst we ended up the trip with two injured and they had to call ambulance , low standard people were doing drugs on the boat , in general it was a very bad experience ended up calling the police as they lost my extra large bucket of fish .... My 7 yr old and I had a great time catching fish and moving to new spots as needed. And they cleaned and bagged the fish so quickly. Highly recommend and would def do again next time I'm in town. We took the ferry from Montauk to Block Island, and although the staff was kind and were all wearing face-covers (reason for the 2 stars versus 1) there were a couple of things we took issue with. First, it seems that they didn't limit their capacity to match the dangers of the COVID-era, so we had people sitting in the seat in front of us and right behind us for 1 hr and 45 mins. I am still uncomfortable about this - days after we were on it. Second, on the way back, we were hit with incredibly choppy waters that had the boat tilting all the way to the right with everyone on the right side of the boat having to run to the back to either vomit or out of sheer fear of looking like it was going to tilt over into the water. My row had 3 people crying out of fear because it looked terrifying. MOST IMPORTANTLY, which is actually #1: NOT ONCE did the captain or the staff go over any safety procedures/measures and/or location of life vests or any equipment in case of an emergency, which made the choppy water experience even more terrifying. This is incredibly reckless along with the lack of limitations on the amount of people they let on this ferry during COVID. If you have another choice outside of this company to get anywhere, I suggest you choose them. read more

Went on the Whale Watch fishing boat excursion out of Montauk with Viking Fleet. Had to ride out about 2 1/2 hours before we spotted the whales steam spouts in the distance; but we saw the whales ! It was breathtaking to say the least. The head guy from Cresli.com was very informative with much information as the tour went on. We saw at least 9 adult & calves Humpback whales and one Fin whale. We were told that they come to the surface to feed and during this process we were able to view them diving (where the tails come gracefully out of the water) and kicking where they kind of do a side spin. They came very close to the boat while their heads stuck out at the top of the water with open mouths draining out the water during their feeding process.. This season Viking Whale watch had 100% success on every trip at finding the whales. Great job Montauk Whale watch & Cresli Inc. !! Why I took off 1 star : You may want to clean up the boat & bathroom a bit; there was nothing to dry your hands with. The drunk staff member seated right by the grill should have been addressed. Not something parents want their small kids to see. Why he allowed to be on the boat at all is another question. read more

Excellent trip to Block Island from Montauk! Very friendly staff. Unexpected on board chef who prepared a delicious ham, egg and cheese sandwich while I enjoyed delicious hot coffee. Prices very reasonable too. The boat has plenty of indoor and outdoor (covered) seating and easy to watch the sparkling ocean glide by. The trip was not inexpensive, but given rising fuel prices, the size of the crew, and the fact that the boat and crew are docked for hours between the once a day trip, accounts for the $40 one way, plus $15 parking etc. Not 5 stars because of terrible pealing paint, long overdue for a major redo. read more

This was my first time on this boat, but i am not new to fishing. The captain definitely put us on the fish, everyone was satisfied with their share of fish. However it wasn't a good trip. My first turnoff was the lady at the window when I checked in; I asked her 3 questions and she was just rude for no apparent reason, maybe because it was 4am (just guessing). My second turnoff was the boat was sooooo crowded, you could not practice social distancing if you wanted to. We spent a great deal of the day untangling lines, because we were right on top of each other. The mates were really great, they did a great job. At the end of the trip i tried to offer one an additional tip and he said "no, you've already given enough". That said alot to me. Overall, I probably won't go out on this vessel again. read more

Saw about 7-8 whales and several dolphins, so overall a success. Nice big boat, not nearly as rocky as other reviews led me to believe, overall smooth ride. Pros: -Big boat, smooth sailing, bunch of whale sightings Cons: -Too many people allowed up top at once. Once a whale is seen, everyone rushes to the other side and blocks others' views. -Kids running wild, although that's really on parents and not crew. -Nearly impossible to hear information about whales out of speaker. There's about 1 speaker on the top front of boat. If you're in middle or back you will not hear anything. Need speakers all around. read more
