I have been getting facials from Melissa for the past 5-6 years with a periodic peel here and there, when needed. She is the ultimate professional - friendly, thorough and maintains a clean, modern work space with top of the line products and modern technologies. She comes from the Beverly Hills dermatology world so she's very, very experienced. Melissa is the only aesthetician who doesn't leave my face looking bruised and beaten up after some serious extractions. I have acne-prone skin and after each cleaning, my face is smooth with minimal redness despite the extractions and I can actually go out into public without worrying that I look like I had been worked on. I have very sensitive skin (and am allergic to many chemicals) and Melissa's products have never caused any adverse reactions. In fact, after learning of my skin sensitivities, she went out of her way many times to recommend products I can pick up at Whole Foods or online that can help (and they have). She will text and check on me after facials to see how I'm doing. Melissa has access to a medical consultant in dermatology and will direct me to information and resources from this consultant - free of charge! And mind you my skin issues aren't on my face. They're primarily on my hands and she goes above and beyond because she genuinely cares and wants to help. I just had a facial about a week ago and a few days later, a problem I had a dermatologist treat with a cortisone injection before the facial re-emerged. I wanted to attempt an extraction and Melissa squeezed me (no pun intended) in at the end of her hours, took care of it and refused to accept any compensation for it! I felt bad and we had back and forth about it on my way out and she simply refused to accept any money despite staying a half hour beyond her last scheduled appointment, not to mention having added me with just a few hours' notice. Melissa performed a peel which burned my skin and left me with scarring. My face was not properly cleansed and I did notice this when my skin was being wiped with the acetone towelette and makeup was still coming off onto it but she completely ignored it. She was in complete denial about the burn The peel caused but kept referring me to products and after care that would only be used on burned skin like antibiotics. She is not careful when prepping the skin prior to treatment and rushes. It is obvious that money is her first concern not the treatment or patient. The 5 star reviews make no sense I have met aestheticians far better than her. Update: Melissa assured me she would refund me what I paid for the peel since it was a complete disaster, she confirmed she would be sending a check since I paid with a visa. I contacted her to get an update on the status of the check and she never responded so I decided to give her a call the next day and she did not answer. A few days after I posted this review I received a very apologetic voice mail from Melissa. Seriously, it one of the nicest voice mails I have ever received. Melissa apologized that I wasn't happy with the service, that I felt rushed, and that there was confusion over the pricing. She even offered to fully refund me and to give me a free service of my choosing if I would give her a second chance. After calling Melissa back we agreed that she would send me a refund for the $75 I hadn't expected to pay instead of the entire amount of the facial (she did, after all, provide me with a facial and I don't believe that Yelp should be a forum to get free stuff!). She followed up with a text to make sure I received the check and again asked me to come back for another appointment on her. Melissa is the nicest, most honest esthetician that I had ever met! Granted, I haven't been to a lot in this Mecca of beauty and skin care, but who needs to keep looking? My specific problem was oil acne. I have oily skin with oily bumps all over my face and my jawline. From the get-go, I was ready to really go to town on my skin care and I couldn't have asked for a better person for help. On my first appointment, I got the Vi Peel; a chemical peel that comes highly recommended. The peel barely tingles when put on, but about a day after, your skin will peel. Now, the major peeling is only three days (which is pretty good down time), and for me it took about a week to get completely back to normal. And the great thing is, it actually works! And Melissa is there for any questions or concerns you have during the whole process. One thing to remember is that acne or skin problems is NOT an overnight fix! You have to keep at it and be CONSISTENT with your skin care. Not to mention that Melissa will ask you about your everyday habits that could affect your skin care (diet, water intake, etc.). And be honest! That's the only way she can help you. That's like going to a doctor for trichinosis and not telling them you like eating raw pork. All the 5 star reviews are true. These are the best extractions I've ever had. Very little redness and bruising. I'm not gonna lie - good extractions are always painful no matter who I see, but Melissa is quick and precise. In the past, microdermabrasion has left my skin irritated and dry, but not with Melissa. My skin felt and looked great afterwards. The treatments are not cheap, but you truly get what you pay for. She only uses state of the art equipment and quality skincare products (IS Clinical, Demaquest, Murad, etc.). I like that she is not married to one skin care brand and will recommend a customized facial regimen for you. She is not pushy if you don't want to purchase anything. I've been going to Melissa for facials for a year now, and I don't even want to THINK about what my skin would look like now if it weren't for her. I went through some pretty rough breakouts, and Melissa was there for me with her amazing extraction skills to save me just in time. Her extractions are ridiculously clean, I could go to her the day before an event and expect my skin to look much improved the next day. She also recommended some other treatments that were very helpful, such as Vitalize peels, which I normally would never have considered but she made me feel very comfortable and really held my hand through the process. Alright. Where do I begin? Seriously, Melissa is amazing. I'm a dude, and I was SUPER sceptical about (not only) facials, but also the vi peel, and anything related to spa facial treatments (*sigh* ignorance). Alas, out of desperation from my battered skin that developed from: long stressful nights at work, using lactic acid peels (which totally broke out my skin), and previous hyperpigmentation -- I had no other choice. So after a lot of questions asked to Melissa, through her amazing patience, I finally agreed to go through with it. I was very nervous of scarring since (because of my melanin) I can easily scar, but she reassured me all would be fine as long as I didn't pick at my skin. So duitufully I followed all her instructions to the T and went home with my peel applied. Surprisingly it didn't sting. I never felt uncomfortable through the process, I just wanted it to be over and get out of my apartment! Finally on the final day (I think 6) my skin was brighter, smoother, and all problems washed away. The only remaining thing to do was to do another peel for the remainder of past hyperpigmentation from acne scars. Overall 5 out of 5. Melissa is great. Melissa is wonderful! My dermatologist had recommended I get a Vi Peel for my hyperpigmentation/melasma, but quoted me almost $400. Yikes! So, I shopped around and found My LA Face. Melissa offers Vi Peels for only $250! I'm so grateful she keeps her prices reasonable - she said that being located nearby UCLA, she thinks it's important that she caters to young adults/college students by keeping her prices affordable. I got my first Vi peel with her a few days ago and was a bit nervous about the process, I was afraid that it would hurt and burn or that I'd look red and raw-faced afterwards, but she put me totally at ease. The peel did NOT hurt, just felt hot for about a minute and that's it and I can already see little bits of my face where I'm shedding away any discoloration! She welcomed me to text her all my questions and gave me tons of info about aftercare and what to expect from the peel. I have been joking on and off for years that I suffer from 'teenage acne'...but I am in my mid-30's. The glitch is...I live in London. I found her on Yelp when I was visiting LA last year, and I have just come back from another trip (and another facial). Oh, to live in Los Angeles and be able to have regular facials from Melissa!
