Terrible experience. I went in for a gel manicure. When she went to remove my old manicure, she used a dremel. Im accustomed to having someone use an emery board/dremel then wrapping the finger in foil with an acetone-soaked cotton ball. She must have been in a hurry because she just used the dremel the whole time to try to remove my dip manicure. When she was removing the old manicure on my index finger, the friction of the dremel created enough heat to burn and I pulled my finger away and said "ouch, that's hot." She apologized, but this continued to happen to multiple nails. NOT COOL! To make matters worse, her use of the dremel created dents and uneven surfaces on my nails so when she put the polish on, it looked awful. She then blamed me for going to a salon that did not apply the polish correctly. Totally unprofessional, considering my normal manicurist has always done a perfect job and has never hurt me when removing polish. I didn't bother asking her to fix it, as I did not trust her anymore. I only went to her because I couldn't get a last minute appointment with my usual salon. I Will never go back to My. read more

What a sweet little spot!! We live Upcountry and were both in need of some ~toe care~ before the Holidays. I looked here on Yelp and noticed My's shop on Dairy, right in the middle of all the places we needed to go (Costco, Office Max, Down to Earth, Safeway and the recycling center at the Shell Station). We were able to walk in after landing at the airport. My nails really needed a cleanup (chips, hangnails, etc.) before my wedding and I wanted something beautiful but basic. We were the only ones in the salon as it was midday midweek. The owner is so nice and so good! Almost two weeks later my nails have grown but the gel has stayed! Same color, no peeling. read more

This is one of the best experiences I've ever had getting a manicure and pedicure. I loved it! Very clean and professional. The previous set of acrylics and gel nails that I had broken off, so my nails were really thin and sensitive. Mai made sure to be gentle with my nails. She was very thoughtful in the work she did. I wanted silver/glitter gradient type of design. I showed her one picture and she was able to exceed my expectations. We didn't have time to do a full pedicure, so Mai did a cleanup and polish change for me. This was a lot better than many other places. She took the time to make me feel great, while she was the ONLY worker there! I was really blown away by Mai's work ethic, the cleanliness of her shop, and her professionalism. I have been getting my nails done regularly for years, however, it has been MANY years that I have felt loyal to any particular salon or manicurist...until now. My Nail Center is wonderful, they do a WONDERFUL job on nails, and it LASTS (which is great for me, since I don't exactly enjoy getting them done). The prices are great, and the staff is very friendly and fun. They are also very sweet to my 6 yr old when I have to bring her along (which I try to avoid doing). Although I have yet to try the other options, they also cut hair and wax. From what I can tell, the customers coming and going from their hair cuts & waxing seem to love their results, too. I've tried several nail care centers on Maui and this is by far my favorite place to get my nails done! It's a smaller operation than the other businesses in Kahului. But since it's smaller, you get much more bang for your buck. At no time do you feel rushed or overwhelmed by the activity going on around you. The owner and workers are very pleasant, and they aren't pushy, trying to force you to pay extra for services you don't need. I've referred several people to this business and have only heard good things back. They take time to make you feel comfortable and do quality work for an affordable price. The last time I went there (a few weeks ago) I got a full set with zebra print tips. I can't go anywhere without someone complimenting me on my nails and asking where I went. This place is awesome! **Update** I still refuse to go anywhere else to get my nails done. My is the best there is! Although you may have to wait a little while (the owner is normally the only one working and she's always very busy,) it's totally worth the wait!! Horrible. Got a OPI gel she wiped of my top coat and I told her top coat wiped off and she said put more cuticle oil it will be shiny. Never recommending anyone to do nails. During a mad dash to get my nails done, I was glad to find that they would take me as a walk-in appointment and were very efficient to get them done quickly as I shared I was in a time crunch before wedding-related activities. Realizing everything costs more for less on Maui I knew it might be harder to find gel polish at the price range I prefer to pay on Oahu. So initially I was going to say 3.5- 4 stars for average service. There are less salons & less lower priced salons than Honolulu. After really looking over the work on my nails I just can't do that. I'll start w/ the good. Friendly enough, decent prices, clean salon, easy to speak to on the phone. I went earlier because I know more affordable salons can get busy. I generally frequent salons that offer gel polish change for $20-$25 for one color. I also have a couple messed up nails and need special acrylic shaping so I am very patient with shops because it is not something I Iike subjecting nail techs to. Because of this I rarely complain about subpar work. I did ask nicely if she knew how to shape an acrylic nail to cover up a messed up nail. I only did this because I have been to salons where the manager says the one who can shape mock nails is out for the day. She seemed annoyed and being she was of a more mature age I figured she had a lot of experience at this special issue. Otherwise she was friendly. The polish looked fine on my hand when finished. I asked if I should trim them to the right shape and she began to clip them. But for some reason she left the one thumb longer and rounded and the other one shorter & squared. I don't like to say anything because each tech has their own procedures and filing of nails as they go. If I trim it now it will cause the gel to begin to peel on the tips even faster. 5 days after my service I saw the edges begin to lift. Last night they completely started to pull up on the nail bed end and today some of the lift started to crack off. Today is only SEVEN days after the work was done!! When I get gel done it always lasts 2.5 to 3 weeks at the minimum before the cracking begins. And these are from the same priced places. One charges $17 the other $25 the same as My nail center on Maui. I realized it is likely because she only did 2 layers of color gel and it is very thin. I notice most techs do at least 3. For my toes I liked that she made the acrylic thin but she did absolutely no shaping. I pay a professional to make a nice looking nail but she just put acrylic over what nail I did have instead of shaping me a nice looking nail. On top of that she kept filing the side of my larger nail down to match the width of my other foot nail which is way too small! So when it grows out it is going to look crazy. So instead of nice shaped nails I got stubby nails which I could do myself truthfully. Even when I don't get perfect toe nails I just wait a couple months till they grow out to go back in but this work is so nubby I will have to redo them very soon. I will included a photo of how my toe nails are normally shaped compared to what I got. There was also a lot of filing onto my skin. She was pleasant but I could tell she was trying to keep it as fast as possible even though there was no one else waiting for her until 5 minutes before we finished. Like I mentioned before this is how much I usually pay for service in Honolulu I am content with. For $70 (including tip) it should have been a little better quality. I didn't even get to enjoy 5 days before they started falling apart. On top of the other issues. read more

If you are absolutely desperate to get your nails done-go here. Actually do not go here. The atmosphere was unwelcoming and cold. My French tip gels look like a 12 year old painted them. The nail technician rushed and failed to ask if I wanted a manicure. She was more concerned about her "regular" waiting for a pedicure then her attention to detail and customer service. If you are looking for poor customer service and untalented nail technicians go here. Zero stars. read more

Wow! My (owner) is an artist, not just a nail technician. For our wedding, she hand painted flowers for me (bride) and our flower girl and then added rhinestones for a hint of glimmer. It brought out our personalities, and looked great in the pics. I have hesitated getting my nails done in the past because I thought it was a waste of money, but I will go back to My's Nail Center every month for mani/pedi. I went here hoping I would have a better chance having a mani pedi better than the other times because I am not sure what it is but people just don't treat me right and I end up with the sloppy technician. Once again I'm stuck with a sloppy technician. I don't know if she was training or just got into nails or the people that ran that shop needed more people because there seems to be only 3 of them. I took my mother and myself to this place for mani pedis and when they were done it literally looked like I did my own nails at home...it was so sloppy and when they were touching up my nails to get the excess nail polish off my skin there was so much and my cuticles and fingertips are suffering even after I put lotion on. The amount measured up to be 40 dollars for me (which I think was ridiculous because I could have done my nails the same way but spend 10 dollars on the bottle of nail polish) and my mother's was 50 and she came out with really nice colorful French tips. The total pretty much came out to 100 dollars. My nails haven't been in such terrible condition before. If I were you I would just stay away from this place to avoid having the same fate as I did. Now the following day, my mother's nails started chipping really bad and peeling so she goes back to get it touched up and then on the same day more nail polish starts peeling off! Super sweet lady but I walked in with shellac on my nails and instead of letting my nails soak in alcohol she used her finger nail to peel it off. The corners were starting to peel so easy to lift but the middle of my nail was still very "attached" didn't hurt at the time but 3 days later my nails have no strength and they're extremely soft (even with new shellac). Peeling it off to save time and fit me in before her next scheduled appointment was not a good move. I would have rathered be turned away than have my nails they way they are now. read more

I've been going to My Nails for a couple of years and I always get great service, a great manicure, and much aloha from My (the owner). I'm very picky about shape and not cutting cuticles, etc. and My has no problem with that and accommodates me well. The salon is clean and you can catch up on Family Feud while you're there, it passes the time. She has always been on time with appointments, and will take me on walk-in basis when I forget to call ahead. Great location on Dairy Rd. in Kahului, plenty of parking, and nicely air conditioned.
