Best pie in the city or it's free?? Well, expect to pay every time. Now, it's arguable if it's actually the best but it's good pizza that will leave you satisfied. We tried it for lunch yesterday between stops at a couple museums and did enjoy it. The crust especially was really nice! Good service from the crew and a nice NY pizza place vibe.

This pizza was a lot better than I thought it would be because I'm so picky from NY. Good food, quick service, and nice staff. It's small in there. We were a group of 11 but we squeezed in.

Pizza & garlic bread were both delicious! Would definitely reccommend. Convenient location close to our hotel.

The store doesn't look like much but the reviews were great so my bestie and I walked down from our hotel to snag some pizza and bread sticks. I love a good NY Style pizza and this one didn't disappoint!! So much cheesy goodness!! Definitely a good slice after a long day of exploring DC. The bread sticks were unassuming but still yummy, probably because they were just basically pizza crust. Keep an eye on the McDonald's next door and you may see some of the interesting characters walking around panhandling.

After a five-hour flight, we checked into a nearby hotel and walked the short distance here for a quick dinner. At the time, they had about six pizzas on display, which can be ordered by the slice, however, customers have the option to order whole pizzas and calzones as well. Pricing by slice is determined by whether you get plain cheese, pepperoni, or a "specialty." It would be helpful if they put a label next to each pizza with a description. Some of them are simple to identify, but actually seeing a list of the ingredients would just provide assurance that customers know exactly what they're ordering. We chose our slices, which the staff heated up before boxing, and selected a large salad from the cooler. Our total cost came out to be $46 for seven "specialty" slices and the salad. + SUPREME: I always go for combo pizzas, so this was essentially their version of one, with pepperoni, sausage, green peppers, mushrooms and onion. Out of the three slices I tried, this was my favorite. + SAUSAGE: There wasn't much to this slice since it only included Italian sausage. Although the sausage crumbles were flavorful, I thought the slice as a whole was just okay. + CHICKEN PESTO: With cubes of lean chicken and a herby pesto drizzled over the top, this was a lighter option. I enjoyed the fresh pesto, but I felt like the slice needed another topping to round it out. The salad was fresh with crisp greens, onion, carrot, and cucumber. As a side note, the containers of salad don't contain dressing, so make sure to ask for it at the counter. If you're looking for something quick, this is not a bad option by any means. The pizzas were fine; I just didn't think they were anything special in particular.

A quick bite to eat, filling, good flavor. Staff was kind as well. Small inside but it's a quick turn around, just grabbed some slices to go.

Okay, go into this with open eyes. This isn't an order a whole pie and hangout kind of place. There are 10 ish bar seats inside and it's by the slice. We stopped in for a quick lunch while we were touring museums and it was perfect. Quick, easy and delicious. These reminded me of legit New York pizza. Nothing fancy, just a good slice of pizza!

Lives up to it's NY Style pizza claim.

This pizza was very good. My husband and I had the sausage, bacon, and spinach pizza slices, and the crust was perfectly done.

Street Parking Only & It's Definitely Hit Or Miss. I Got Lucky & Found A Spot, But It Is Metered So Be Prepared To Pay. This Spot Is Literally A "Side Door" Located On The Side Of Scarlet Oak. Super Unique Setup With Cool Lights That Make It Easy To Spot. It's Different From Your Typical Pizza Place, Which I Actually Liked. Since It Was Monday, They Had Half-Off Pizzas If You Dine In & I Had To Take Advantage Of That. CHEESE PIZZA I Ordered A Cheese Pizza & Lemon Water. This Is Detroit-Style Pizza, So Don't Expect New York Style. It's Thick, With A Generous Amount Of Mozzarella Cheese & Tomato Sauce. Honestly, It Almost Felt Like A Cheesy Bread Situation But In A Good Way. The Crust Was Buttery With A Slight Crisp On The Outside & Soft Inside, Which Was The Perfect Balance. The Ingredients Tasted Fresh, & It Was Very Filling. The Size I Got Came With 4 Slices, & Honestly, 2 Slices Was More Than Enough. I'd Definitely Come Back & Bring My Son This Feels Like A Spot He'd Love, Especially If He's Into Breadsticks & Cheesy Pizza. The Staff Was Decent, Though I Didn't Interact Much. The Overall Setup Is Interesting, A Full Restaurant Vibe Inside With This Separate Pizza Concept On The Side. Different, But It Works. I'm Glad I Finally Tried It, Unique Setup, Solid Detroit-Style Pizza, & A Great Deal If You Catch It On The Right Day. Just Have To Be In The Mood For Detroit-Style Pizza.

Through the side door, of course. Side Door Pizza is essentially a takeout counter just off the kitchen with its own separate entrance. We didn't quite realize that going in, and since it was cold and windy, we asked if we could take our pizza inside and sit at Scarlet Oak. They were happy to accommodate, asking only that we order something there as well, so we grabbed a drink. The pizza came out quickly, hot and fresh. We're vegetarians, so we ordered one square slice of cheese and one square slice of mushroom. The cheese slice was good but not great. It could have used a bit more sauce and seasoning. The mushroom slice, however, was excellent. We both immediately agreed we should have just ordered a full mushroom pie. Overall, it was a really enjoyable experience. The environment was welcoming, and the staff were friendly and attentive. If you're in the Navy Yard area, it's definitely worth a stop. They also have a fairly extensive menu beyond pizza, which we didn't explore this time--but if you go, it's worth checking out the full lineup.

Whoa now! We had a slice of the Bacon Me Crazy and a small detroit style Butcher's Block Pie…read more(Cup-n-Char Pepperoni, Italian Sausage, Virginia Honey Ham, Bacon, Fresh Oregano, Mozz-Provo Blend). Premium toppings. Fresh, plentiful, great quality. We ordered both well done and received a nice crispy edge on the crust but with all the toppings it's damn near impossible to get a strong enough base to avoid bend. It's worth the compromise- trust me! Both were delicious but I'll skip the detroit crust next time, and there will be a next time. For me the detroit crust was a bit spongy and had a slight yeast taste. Not enough to ruin the experience but enough for me to choose a different crust next time. We also got the ranch for dipping - new experience. That too wasn't for me. The ranch is homemade and great texture and flavor just not what I expected. It had a heavy dill flavor...yep...dill. Again, tasty but, for me, this is more for veggies than pizza. All in all, looking forward to trying other pizzas. Check them out.

There were so many pies to choose from!…read moreWhile the White Mushroom Truffle pizza and the Margharita pizza had some good flavor, it wasn't that fresh. My biggest pet peeve about NY style pizza places is that it's impossible to snag a hot slice out of the oven. When the pipping hot pizza is taken out of the oven, it's tucked under the display case. By the time the pizza pie is depleted from the display case, the hidden pizza gets cold as it's finally moved up. The cycle repeats itself...so you can never get a hot fresh slice of pizza. The Garlic Knots were hands-down the best part of my oil! I wish I could order a single knot as I didn't really want 3 knots. While the Chicken and Eggplant Parm are heavily promoted on flyers at the tables, I didn't see them on the menu, it would have been helpful to see before ordering. There's plenty of seating upstairs. Decent neighborhood spot to grab a slice of pizza.

Continuing the last 3 of the runner-up alphabet series (& then onto 2025 alphabet series with…read morerunner-ups included at the same time) and the only representing 2023, W is for Wiseguy Pizza. I first had Wiseguy on 3rd & Massachusetts Ave NW way back in 2014, and I knew I loved their pizza. I had also been to a couple of other locations in Arlington & their only one in MD, which closed, at Wheaton Mall. I visited this Navy Yard Wiseguy about 3 times. The first was on Monday, January 6, 2020. I had work travel to DC. My girlfriend of that time was working in DC. It was a brief period of time. She started in December 2019, then on that Friday, 1/10, the contract was furloughed due to the contract company President dying, so she was off for 2 weeks. Then, it was back to normal commuting back to DC, which was brief, as Covid was around the corner, and became 100% remote. She was happy I surprised her coordinating lunch at Wiseguy at Navy Yard not far from her work. This location was pretty new at the time. She & I loved our pizza. It's a thin NY style, perhaps the best in the DMV! The other noteworthy time I visited was on Saturday, July 8, 2023. Early that afternoon, I was way up at Columbia Mall, where I happened to be writing this Yelp review now, as I ate lunch & had a movie on my AMC A-List. Afterward, I was texting/calling with a friend. He was itching to go to a baseball game. O's were away, but Nationals were in town playing against one of my favorite teams, the Texas Rangers, and I had their pitcher in our Fantasy baseball league. We coordinated that afternoon having about 1.5 hours to buy tickets on phone, for me to drive from Columbia to Greenbelt Metro with some modest traffic on parts of 95, & metro all the way on Green line for the 4:05 game. My friend was running a bit later, so we didn't enter right at 4:05, but my heart sank when I heard Nats fans loudly cheering for a homer. My Rangers pitcher got clobbered by the Nats. I was pissed at him quickly dropping him the next morning as soon as I could. Although rain chances were low like 15%, there was a heavy thunderstorm that blew from DCA to Nats Park; almost the entire region was clear, but just bad luck. The rain lasted like 15 minutes, but I was pissed at the Nats because they delayed the game by 1.5 hours! They should've gotten the game going within 45 minutes. I think it was a ploy by the Nats to get people to buy more drinks & food. I refused to give the Nats a dime besides the ticket to go to the game. But after the rain, I was hungry from like the 5th inning to the end. We should've been out of there about 6:30 (which would've been on par with my hunger level) but instead like 8 PM. I told my friend about Wiseguy seeing it was quick & relatively cheap. He loved their pizza too as did I once again. If I'm ever in Navy Yard, Wiseguy is definitely a viable option for me.
