This place was the epitome of Grand Marais' vibe and was a very fun place to come with my family when we were on vacation up North. The best thing about this place was most definitely the old times decorations that made it such an unforgettable vibe. I would come here for the decor alone! We all had some tap beers, which they had only a small variety of, but I was still content with my beer especially because it was local. Their prices were pretty average for the area, and they had an all you can eat walleye special that they were pushing but would've been not worth it because you never could really eat more than what the regular serving of walleye was, which is what my dad got and didn't finish. I had the wild rice sandwich which was really just like a wild rice veggie burger which I definitely enjoyed but I didn't think was anything too special and was sort of misrepresented on the menu. They had a variety of sides to pick from for your meal and both the sweet potato fries and regular fries were delicious. The server we had was prompt, friendly, and helpful with the menu, and we were definitely satisfied by the service. Overall, this is a cool Northern MN local vibe restaurant to check out, but none of us thought the food was crazy special. read more

We were traveling north to visit friends and stayed in Grand Marais over night. We thought we'd get a bite to eat and went to My sisters place to do that. We ordered the chicken strips dish to split. (it came w four small strips) and up graded to have onion rings with it. The bill came to 20 dollars plus tip. (for ONE chicken strip dinner) The chicken strips were not fresh; they were the kind you drag out of the freezer and fry. They were dry and hard like they had been in the freezer for years before being fried. You could hardly cut through them and chewing them was near impossible. The onion rings (if you could call them that) were these greasy little skinny things, hardly any onion actually in them, batter was sparse, it was just a small pile of greasy onion scraps. So greasy it had already saturated the paper under the meal. The coleslaw that came with it was warm, and had a rancid flavor. Like it had been stored so long it was going bad. What a waste of money! You get ripped off up there are pretty much any restaurant you go to. I guess they feel they can rip off the customers because they have a pretty tourist town. There is on good place to go. Its called "south of the border". Its only open for breakfast and lunch but you will never be disappointed there. Their prices are fair for what you get. So we went to have lunch we ordered a pizza and we ordered the poutine. I will say from Chicago pizza is pretty good. Definitely would have it again sauce is like had a familiar taste, but couldn't put my finger on it. Sausage was great. We got the double crust so they cut it into a pie shape for us, very good. Three of us did have leftovers. There's about three or four pieces left over. We did share the poutine that was really good. I will say I thought they're supposed to use cheese curd and it was more like shredded kind of cheese on there but it'll taste good. This was expecting a cheese curd service was super super nice and attentive to our needs and the restaurant had a nice set up lots of fun things to look at while you're waiting for your food and by the way did not take long at all. We've always loved it here and our pizza was good. I just have to mention a couple things... We ordered a large pizza and 1 Mountain Dew and it was $51! This included tip but we just thought it was a bit much. Also when my husband asked about refills on his pop she said "yes we give refills if you're the only one drinking it" She never came back to our table to give him a refill so my husband had to go to the bar for his own! I thought it was rude to assume grown adults would try to rip them off. Not the greatest customer service. It was just weird. They had a good selection of draft beer but no lagers besides coors and the rest were craft beer, so that was disappointing but I got the Alaskan lager and that was great! Juiciest bison burger I've ever had! Cooked beautifully to a medium well with just a hint of pink. I got mine with grilled onions and cole slaw on the side to balance the richness of the burger. It was delicious. My husband had the Reuben sandwich with fries. He said the sauerkraut was nice and mild and the sandwich hit the spot. The fries must be good too because he ate every last one. Goober burger and onion rings for the win! We stopped in here on New Year's Eve for a little dinner out. Things were bustling even at 5pm but we were able to get seated right away. The beer menu features all your mn classic favorites. We chose a castle danger cream ale and a surly furious. The menu is big with lots of options for everyone. I went with my favorite goober burger overflowing with peanut butter and mayo and a side of onion rings. Let me start with saying, I absolutely hate the fish taste. None of that however you will find in their walleye sandwich, which, literally fell apart in your hands and melted in your mouth. Just absolutely amazing. Also the onion rings, as she put it, they bang. Maybe the best onion ring I've ever had. The bad: the jalapeño burger, outside of the spice was, mediocre. The poutine grew on me, but also mediocre. The good: awesome setting, very friendly, responsive staff. The fish that we had was absolutely top notch. Some friends and I had finished a four day canoeing trip in the boundary waters, and we wanted a big meal as we had been eating camp food for days. No one in our group was from the area, so we went online to look for a place to eat nearby. There was a local spot called My Sister's Place; the reviews looked good, and we were just excited to eat food prepared in a kitchen, so we decided to go there. The restaurant was very spacious. The interior was cozy and had a very homey vibe to it, and there was lots of outdoor seating as well. The weather was nice so we decided to sit outside. Our server came out to us soon after we were seated, and she was quick to bring us water and check if we wanted any appetizers which was nice. I was interested in having a fish dish but I wasn't familiar with the different kinds, and the server helped me figure out what I'd like which I greatly appreciated. She checked on us regularly which was good, and the appetizers didn't take too long to come out. We were definitely glad to have some food come quickly since we were starving after canoeing earlier that day. I'd never had poutine before but I liked it, and the tots were very standard. The food took a while to come out, but thankfully we had appetizers so we were fine waiting. And the wait was definitely worth it. I hadn't had fish at a restaurant in a long time, and I was entirely pleased by what I ordered. I got the whitefish dinner, which came with fries, soup, and coleslaw, and after a few bites of the fish I was in love. The fish was fried, and I'm not the biggest fan of fried food because of how greasy it can taste and feel, but I had no such complaints about this meal. There wasn't too much breading so almost all of the food was the fish itself, and despite being fried it wasn't coated in oil like some fried food can be. The fish was soft, delicious, and the perfect temperature, and it was nice to have multiple sides to switch between as I ate the fish. I'm a big fan of My Sister's Place; the service was great, the interior and the outdoor seating were both nice, and the food was delicious. I don't know if or when I'll be back in the area, but if I ever am I'll definitely want to come back and try something else. One of our favorite places to go in town. The food is really greasy at least what we like but hey you get that with deep-fried food =) We love the mushroom app - it's like 2 pounds of huge portabella slices fried in a nice batter and served with a special sauce. Also not to miss is the hot dog covered in wild rice and lots and lots of cheese. Really I like everything I have had here. Family-friendly and great art all over. My Sister's Place seems like a popular dining spot based on how packed this place was on a Saturday evening. They have a nice area outside with some backyard games (cornhole and hook & ring toss) for parties waiting to get seated. We ordered onion rings as an appetizer and the whitefish dinner and honer's hottie burger as our entrees. I can see why they say the onion rings are killer; these are sliced very thinly to really bring out the crispy batter and were my favorite part of our meal. The whitefish dinner was also pretty good. The whitefish was fresh, the tartar sauce was a nice combination of savory and tangy, and the sweet potato fries were perfectly seasoned and crispy. I wasn't a fan of the burger though. We asked them to cook it medium rare but the center was completely raw and cold. I wasn't willing to eat the burger raw, but it tasted pretty good when I reheated it the next day. The fries were also disappointing - soft and bland. Overall, our meal was good and decently priced. Be aware of how busy they get though - it took a long time for our food to arrive. I think the restaurant might also be understaffed. Although we had a friendly waitress, it seemed like she was running back and forth constantly the whole time we were there (without break!), and I had a hard time flagging her both during and at the end of dinner. read more

Me and my friends found this cute little joint, and we were excited to dine there. Only to find out that this was horrible experience. To start with we ordered AN appetizer, we then received TWO apps, one being the fried pickles which we ordered and the other being the shrooms which we had spoken about and the server had heard, which prompted him to order them for us, which we did NOT. We then order our main courses, which were fine, but the pizza was very greasy and soggy and very difficult to eat. To add no sliver ware or napkins were put on the table when we arrived . Then came the check, which was already inflated due to the shrooms which we did not order, and the ridiculous auto gratuity which was put on our check for a 3 person group. We ordered two walleye sandwiches from My Sister's Place, one with sweet potato fries and one with onion rings. Both of these meals are HUGE, the walleye fillet is about 6 inches long, and there must have been a 1/2 pound of fries with each of them. While they were definitely not the best walleye sandwiches we've ever had, they were pretty good considering it's the middle of winter and there's very little fresh fish right now. The online ordering system is super easy, and our orders were ready within 15 minutes. If you are in GM in the winter, definitely consider this place for walleye. read more

Excellent food, drinks and atmosphere! We stopped here after a day of search for moose unsuccessfully up the Gunflint and were hungry and parched! My Sister's Place did not disappoint! We ordered the Fried Cheesy Pickles and the Shrooms - both were soooo goood!!! I ordered the North Shore burger with sautéed mushrooms and it was amazing. Think we waited a little over twenty. When we sat down, I'm pretty sure they don't have anyone bussing tables. The wait for drink refills was pretty long. But our server was super busy, understandable. And the menu on their website lists very different prices then the current menu. That threw us off and changed some plans. Parking: This parking lot is a MESS, there aren't painted lines so most people just park along the restaurant. But it's attached to the same lot as a grocery store. So lord of spots there. But not many close/upfront if you have issues with mobility. Food: Fried Cheesy Pickles, I'd rate a 5/10, fiancé rates a 8.5/10. He thinks it's a great idea. And he liked the spicy sauce. I was kinda meh. The wait for the actual food was pretty long, thankfully we had drinks so we weren't empty. Poutine, 8/10, this was our second time having poutine. This one was pretty good.
