Walleye diner, wild rice sandwich, patty melt, and BLT
Ellie B.

This place was the epitome of Grand Marais' vibe and was a very fun place to come with my family when we were on vacation up North. The best thing about this place was most definitely the old times decorations that made it such an unforgettable vibe. I would come here for the decor alone! We all had some tap beers, which they had only a small variety of, but I was still content with my beer especially because it was local. Their prices were pretty average for the area, and they had an all you can eat walleye special that they were pushing but would've been not worth it because you never could really eat more than what the regular serving of walleye was, which is what my dad got and didn't finish. I had the wild rice sandwich which was really just like a wild rice veggie burger which I definitely enjoyed but I didn't think was anything too special and was sort of misrepresented on the menu. They had a variety of sides to pick from for your meal and both the sweet potato fries and regular fries were delicious. The server we had was prompt, friendly, and helpful with the menu, and we were definitely satisfied by the service. Overall, this is a cool Northern MN local vibe restaurant to check out, but none of us thought the food was crazy special.

Kind staff and cool space. I got the goober burger and it was pretty good; I like how there's a lot of peanut butter on it. The bacon cheeseburger and chicken sandwich was alright. The margarita pizza was also pretty good. Overall, pretty good stop if you're going through Grand Marais.

So we went to have lunch we ordered a pizza and we ordered the poutine. I will say from Chicago pizza is pretty good. Definitely would have it again sauce is like had a familiar taste, but couldn't put my finger on it. Sausage was great. We got the double crust so they cut it into a pie shape for us, very good. Three of us did have leftovers. There's about three or four pieces left over. We did share the poutine that was really good. I will say I thought they're supposed to use cheese curd and it was more like shredded kind of cheese on there but it'll taste good. This was expecting a cheese curd service was super super nice and attentive to our needs and the restaurant had a nice set up lots of fun things to look at while you're waiting for your food and by the way did not take long at all. It was super fast.

The ambiance was awesome, old decor and cabin lodge feel. They had a good selection of draft beer but no lagers besides coors and the rest were craft beer, so that was disappointing but I got the Alaskan lager and that was great! The burgers were decent, but over cooker and the patty melt was not a patty melt. The wild rice sandwich didn't specify it was a patty, but was ok. The walleye sandwich was a HUGE serving and very good! If you come, get the fish, the rest is just ok. Server was very nice!

Bison burger with grilled onions and mayo along with cole slaw.

Juiciest bison burger I've ever had! Cooked beautifully to a medium well with just a hint of pink. I got mine with grilled onions and cole slaw on the side to balance the richness of the burger. It was delicious. My husband had the Reuben sandwich with fries. He said the sauerkraut was nice and mild and the sandwich hit the spot. The fries must be good too because he ate every last one. If you are driving up north this is a great lunch spot.

Good food, good service, and a large enough place to accommodate crowds. A bit out of the but worth the drive.

This is not an overly large restaurant, so if you want to really get a great seat inside or out, going during non-peak hours! There is a wrap around pouch and this is dining right on the water! Everything was clean and they use pottery dishes that were made specially for them! Super cute! Service: Friendly and quick! This is a very LGBTQ+ friendly spot! Food: We started with an IPA that my boyfriend said was great! I got their house made maple cream soda. It was very light in flavor, so I wouldn't get that again. We started with the Trout chowder and holy yum!!! The flavor was so tasty! It had large pieces of fish and veggies! Definitely worth trying! We both got the fish and chips with coleslaw. It was super tasty! The fish was fresh and had a crunchy exterior! Their tartar sauce has a yummy dill flavor! I would buy a bottle if you could! To end we had the Kladdkaka! THIS IS NOT TO BE MISSED! It was rich and decadent! I really wish they served it with real whipped cream because it deserves it! If you are anywhere near this area, stop in!!

Beautiful view, kind and attentive staff, SUPERB wild rice fritters, excellent burgers (high marks…read morefor the bacon and cheese!), and amazing fish tacos. They've been great every time we've gone -- we always go with the fish of the day, which today was grilled whitefish. Love the sauces that come with the fritters! Chili-honey, and aioli.

My husband loved the walleye, and everything we had was excellent. Sitting at the bar gave us a chance to watch your team in action. The food runners were so jolly and so interested in making sure you got exactly what you ordered. We noticed the same dishwasher working incredibly hard both nights, and it was obvious that every person plays an important role. The friendly bartenders, servers, kitchen staff, and support staff all worked together seamlessly with genuine pride and teamwork. Great restaurants don't happen by accident. It's clear the manager has built a culture where everyone supports one another and truly cares about the guest experience. We travel extensively, and seeing a team like this is rare. Gun Flint Tavern is a place we always recommend to anyone visiting Grand Marais, and after another wonderful weekend, we'll continue doing exactly that. We can't wait to come back!

With a rare, wind-free weekend, endless sunshine, and stunning harbor views, it felt like we had discovered one of the North Shore's best-kept secrets. The rooftop experience is truly special. The live acoustic music was outstanding and perfectly matched the relaxed lakeside atmosphere. Between the entertainment, craft beverages, and panoramic views of the harbor, it's easy to see why this has become a Grand Marais favorite. The male bartender team was exceptional hardworking, attentive, and always making eye contact to acknowledge guests, even during the busiest rushes. Their professionalism and hospitality stood out. During our six-day visit, the female bartenders seemed less engaged. That said, the overall experience was fantastic. Jeff and Susan Gecas created exactly what they envisioned when they opened The Gun Flint Tavern, a place where people can enjoy great food, craft-brewed beer, wine, live music, and one of the most beautiful views in town. The historic setting overlooking Harbor Park and Grand Marais Harbor only adds to the charm. We highly recommend stopping by for drinks, music, and the rooftop atmosphere. We moved downstairs to have dinner on the street-level bar and restaurant. Gabby is an exceptional bartender and server. He took care of every table in the restaurant effortlessly. It's not the location but truly the people that make this place such a gem.
