I walked in and she greeted me with a smile so I asked her if she could replace the zipper for me and while i stood there she pulled out a little box with many pull tabs and she proceeded to replace the pull tab and the zipper stop on the other side. It took her all of 5 minutes to fix my jacket with a pair of pliers and BEST OF ALL, I asked her how much I owed her for the repair and she graciously smiled at me and replied to me, "NO CHARGE"! WHO DOES THAT ANYMORE?! THAT is what GREAT Customer Service is ALL ABOUT!! She has gained a returning customer if we ever need to have another article of clothing tailored or repaired! She told me that replacing the entire zipper would have cost me $35.00 so in this crazy horrible economy, I appreciated her saving me the $35.00! That's a half-tank of gas nowadays! Had two formal gowns hemmed, one with three layers of skirts. When I tried them on for fitting, one…read morewas perfect. On the other dress at the initial fitting, I double tied the sash around the back which hiked the skirt up in the back. When I went to pick up the dress. I decided that I should only tie the sash in front. That caused the back of the skirt to drop. Jackie immediately noticed the difference. She remeasured and rehemmed the back of the skirt while I waited with no extra charge. She moved to a new location that is tucked into the lower back of the building and is a bit difficult to find since it is accessed through another business. The shop is tiny but she is very aware of client privacy. She has also changed the name of the shop to "A Stitch Above Alterations." The phone number remains the same. Highly recommended.

I had used Skylark for a couple of years as they WERE a great taylor but now I will never use them…read moreagain or send friends to their business as I had done for so long. Here was my experience. I had 3 pairs of jeans hemmed at Skylark at a price point of about $30 a jean. A total of $90 is what I spent. I took one pair out of town and realized that they were still too long and so therefore, I could not wear them. All three pairs were still too long on me. When I was finally able to go back to their shop, the owner said that she would not do anything to correct them as it had been passed 15 days. Of course I did not know that there was a 15 day period! She tells me that it is written on the back of the little card they give you to pick up the items. When I told her that I wasn't told this when I brought my jeans in she said it was on the back of that card. Well, I didn't know I was supposed to read the back of the card for information! Also, why put it on the back of that card instead of also telling your customers?? Obviously, they don't want to tell the customers but then use this as an excuse not to fix their work. I asked her if she would fix the jeans as a one time courtesy since now, I know about the policy. She said again that I should have read the back of the card. Then said, "no". I would have to pay again to have the jeans altered which again were not done properly the first time. I would have to pay another $30 a pair which would add up to a total of $180 ($90 I paid the first time plus another $90). I am beyond disappointed. I understand this is their business and they can do what they want BUT when you have regular customers supporting your business and this is the way you treat them, I can no longer support it as it's clear you don't want nor appreciate my business. I will definitely not recommend Skylar anymore. What a shame.

When we bought my daughter's prom dress it needed to be hemmed. The store we bought it from…read morerecommended Lulu Tailor. I forgot to get it hemmed until 5 days before the prom, and was panicked. The skirt of the dress had multiple layers of thin cloth, and a short train, and would take time. We went to Lulu Tailor and asked if she could do it before prom. I told her I would pay extra. She had my daughter try it on, took measurements, and had her walk around. My poor daughter was tripping over the train every time she turned around. Lulu suggested modifying it and we agreed. She quoted me $120, which was at the top of the posted range for hemming gowns. I was thrilled since it was a rush job. The gown was done in 4 days. She somehow kept the ethereal, floating look of the dress, but my daughter could move freely. It was gorgeous! Best of all, it was $98, less than the quote. Highly recommend!

This had been my go-to shop for alterations for years, but unfortunately I'll have to find a…read moredifferent place going forward. The biggest issue was the owner's attitude. Even when I was polite and simply wanted to work toward a solution, she became very defensive instead of acknowledging that an alteration didn't turn out as expected. Sometimes alterations don't work the first time, and I would have appreciated hearing, "We tried, it didn't work--let's see how we can make it right." Instead, she seemed more focused on defending the original alteration, even when it clearly hadn't resolved the issue. I also had to return for redos because I found pins left in my clothes after alterations, which had never happened in my previous experiences there. It also seemed like there may be a communication gap between the person taking the measurements and the seamstress completing the work. It's disappointing because this was my trusted alteration shop for years, but after this experience, I won't be returning.
