Dr Patel is very nice. The front room staff is also very nice. Chose my new glasses in early January, picked out my glasses and chose progressive lenses. Three weeks later they came in, I picked them up and started wearing them. Found out that progressive lenses do not cover the whole lens, my periferal(sic) vision was highly impacted. No problem went back in to change lenses to regular trifocals in early February..The new lenses cost so much less that I was able to get a pair of sunglasses too. Now the bad part. It seems whoever measured my eyes put my focal point 4 millimeters to high. So when I got my sunglasses the line was straight across my focal point, couldn't see to drive. Sunglasses redone, finally ready end of March. My trifocals regular glasses are still not ready. Beware if you have special needs and preferences. You'll get your glasses eventually. read more

I stopped by this location just to browse the selection of frames. I would have never thought that a quick stop would turn into purchasing a brand new pair of glasses AND experiencing the best customer service I have in a long time. As soon as I walked into the office I was greeted by Alex. He was very friendly and what I liked the most was that he was not pushy! He allowed me to browse without bombarding me with his ideas or up sales. That in itself was so refreshing. With his help I was able to find the perfect pair of glasses and do my routine eye exam. I causally mentioned that I didn't like eye exams because of the dilation drops and he quickly suggested an alternative procedure (awesome)! The doctor was also very thorough and made sure to explain everything that he did. I've been seeing them ever since they were known as the Bowie Optometric Group (on Superior Lane). THIS office is a major upgrade to that old office space, by the way. The doctor: All of the practitioners I have ever seen here were competent and pleasant. However, the most recent two that I've seen (Goren - I believe that was his name, and now Veera Patel) are the first optometrists to ever tell me to watch out for glaucoma because of my levels of nearsightedness (heavy duty prescription level), and to come in immediately if I ever notice any of the warning signs. I appreciate that. I also appreciate Dr. Patel going easy on the drops because they take forever to wear off before I can drive. Glasses: The last time I needed glasses, a woman spent a lot of time with me picking out frames (I do not remember her name now). She was the first optician to ever point out to me that I should try children's frames since I have a small face. She was absolutely right! Lots of firsts here. [see above] The last time I was there for a checkup, I was there for well over an hour (not selecting glasses either), but I figured that since it was Saturday they try to book as many people as they can. I HAD to give a review after my husband & I visited this myeyedr location. The ENTIRE staff made us eel like we were all friends from way back, the doctor was thorough yet personable. Carolyn is so cheery & friendly while she helps and gets people ready for the doctor. Chaz is AMAZING! He helped us choose frames in a way that saved us sooooo much time and money, and in the end made it so our end cost was about $400 less than it would have been. I recommend this clinic to EVERYONE! The only reason I gave 4/5 stars is because the prices are high and the coupons they give out are really not coupons- they are their prices in the store, so it's just a merchandising gimmick. First, I ripped on MED in Greenbelt, and went to Bowie. Ok, time to rip on this one. The conclusion first. FACTORY. Haul 'em in, git 'em out in 45 seconds or less. Eye care be d@#mned.. Alcon has discontinued Unisol 4, which was perfect for sensitive eyes, especially, if you have daily disposible lenses like mine. Essentially, it is just a benign saline rinse. Soooooo. I call MED/Booowwwie. I ask if they are familiar with Unisol 4. Person answering phone. No....Ok, is anyone there who might have knowledge. Person answering phone. I will check. On hold. Person comes back. Use ClearCare. CLEARCARE? REALLY? Person on phone. Yes, I checked. ClearCare is what I used when I had monthly. You put it in a vial, with a reactant core, to clean and disinfect. READ the instructions. Do Not..REPEAT, DO NOT use directly in eye. I asked again. Are you sure, for daily disposible? YES. Google this product, which I did, just to make sure. Look at the nifty picture of contact lenses gurgling and brewing in this solution. Now, I ask you..never mind, I give up. Are you kidding me? How do these fly by nights stay in business. I gave up going for my eye exam there a couple of years ago, and stuck to contact lens purchase. After this, they have lost my business completely. 1800 Contacts, here I come. read more

Honestly, this is the best MyEyeDr location. I was serviced at the Greenbelt location and was totally disgusted. I purchased a Groupon and brought it to the Bowie, MD location over a year ago. I was greeted at the door with smiles. Although the store was very busy, a young lady assured me that they will be right with me. The manager saw how hard the staff was working and stepped right in to assist. The manager's name was Alex, I will never forget. The level of customer service he provided was astounding!!!! I encouraged all of my colleagues to go to Bowie and ask for Alex LOL! I hope he wasn't overwhelmed! Two of my co-workers affirmed that he was absolutely amazing!!! read more

This location was under a different name for my prior visit. Was a little Leary at first since this was my first time ever hearing of this company. I was very pleased with the Dr although he seemed a bit young. He came across very professional and knowledgeable. Both he and the staff were very friendly and helpful. I love my glasses and went back to get prescription Sunglasses as well. The costs with my insurance were very affordable. I recommend this specific location to anyone looking for Eye exam and glasses. The general manager , Alex was on hand to lend a hand which impressed me a great deal. When you try to make a family doctors visit with a young child it can be extremely challenging. They made our visit quite painless. They staggered our visit so one of us was always with our son. As it was time for my yearly check up I went to My Eye Dr. off Racetrack Road. I have to start by saying EVERY doctor appointment I've had in the last few months has been stressful due to Covid....NOT HERE!!! I'll be nice and NOT MENTION where I went last year (with NO Covid) and ALL the staff at My Eye Dr. BLEW the other place out of the water!! I not only needed new glasses but wanted contacts as well..Dr. Buchanan is PHENOMENAL!!! Being stressed and not knowing anything about contacts she was so patient with me and truly helped me decide which route to go with contacts and she TRULY CARED about the health of my eyes!! I also have to mention Chanel as she has taken a few...I'm running 5mins late calls..and was ALWAYS so friendly and professional!! She is definitely the TRUE MVP for customer service!! I have been in Bowie for 16yrs and just recently needed glasses...I have now made appointments for my husband and two small sons! Horrible. If I could put zero stars I would. According to the Maryland attorney general a contact prescription is valid for two years from the time you were first examined unless your eye doctor gives a valid clinical reason for an earlier expiration date and documents the reason in your medical record. However this practice is not focused on health but on billing and billing and billing. As a result they do not follow Maryland law and require you to come in annually for an appointment. While I appreciate a doc being thorough my eye glasses don't expire after a year. If I make a future appointment and they won't write me a month of contacts until that date then their priorities are off. Never. Going. Back. read more

I lost my eyeglasses and a colleague told me about a special that happened to be going on at My Eye Dr. I work in DC but I of course patronize the businesses near my home and I am so glad I did not walk with my colleague down the street but instead waited until my day off to go to this branch near my house. I just returned from my appointment without my contact lens prescription, which I am entitled to by law. When I confirmed my appointment with the store manager, Donovan Reid, he assured me that my insurance, Priority Partners, did cover my contact lens exam and contact lenses. At no time was an additional $150.00 fitting fee mentioned. I had also previously contacted my insurance, who confirmed I was entitled to one exam and supply of lenses bi-annually. Moreover, by law The Fairness to Contact Lens Consumers Act (Pub.L. 108-164, 117Stat. 2025, 2026, 2027, 2028 and 2029,codified at 15 U.S.C. ch. 102 et seq.), also known as FCLCA, My Eye Dr. would not be able to charge me any additional fitting fee since Dr. Veera V. Patel informed me that my contact lens prescription did not need to be changed and I was already fitted for contact lenses at the same location for the same prescription in January of 2014. The staff was very unhelpful and passed the buck to manager Reid, saying their hands were tied and he would not return to work until the following Thursday, even though they were in direct violation of the law. There was no effort to resolve the situation positively, nor did any employee appear to have any knowledge of the laws that govern their profession. I was so disappointed with the service and attitude that I almost called the police on the spot. I feel that I was discriminated against because I am covered through a MCO of Medicaid, the insurance I am forced to carry due to a devastating auto-immune disorder. Horrible customer service! I did not feel pressured into extra sales which would have ruined my experience. Instead, they actually sat with me while I Face-Timed my Mom in FL for her opinion on the look. They offered suggestions and were very helpful in making my decision. Lastly, my appointment was on a very busy Saturday. I truly appreciate the great care and attention. I rarely write reviews, even when I get bad service, but today I was so annoyed with the level of care I received at myeedr Bowie. I got there a little early because I knew I would have to fill out paperwork since this is my first time visiting the Bowie location (I typically go to another myeyedr location). The receptionist was warm and pleasant when I walked in. However, it all went downhill from there. Once I finished my paperwork, I sat in the waiting area for an hour. What is the purpose of having an appointment if I'm not going to be seen anywhere close to that time. When Dr. Afua Opoku-Debrah eventually came out, I asked her if the appointment could be done in 20 minutes or less because I had to pick up my chid before the daycare closed. I informed her that I had been waiting for an hour and her response was a shoulder shrug and the statement "I mean well..." as if to say this is the standard level of care I should expect from this practice. No apology, no explanation, no bedside manner at all. Even with her curt and rude attitude, I was still willing to give this place another chance and try to reschedule my appointment. The next available appointment ended up being two weeks away. I was wearing my last pair of contacts and they were old, so I asked the receptionist if I could have a trial pair until my appointment in two weeks. Her response was no. I wasn't asking for a new prescription, just a trial pair to get me through to my appointment, since I arrived early and the need to reschedule was not my fault. Clearly, this place does not believe in servicing the customer. I walked out, immediately called my insurance to cancel the authorization hold they had on my account and went to another provider in the area. When I made my appointment with the new provider, not only were they pleasant, but they also provided me a trial pair of contacts until I could be seen. I want to give them more stars because everyone there is very professional and nice. But the glasses just aren't right and my vision is not as good as I expect it to be with brand new glasses. But that's just the start of it. First, it took 2 months to get an appointment. Then when my glasses finally came in, I couldn't see through them. One of the numbers was wrong, so they had to re-do them. More waiting. I finally have them and they're just ok. My vision has not really improved. The thing is, a year ago my daughter got a pair there and she got headaches from them. We went in and they checked and said everything was ok, and she needs to get used to them. She never wore those glasses. So, I really couldn't return here. Vision is important. It's like they don't know how to do the exams or measurements or whatever they're supposed to do. This has never happened to me before with any other eye doctor. Don't waste your money - speaking of which, the frames are a bit overpriced as well. read more

I stopped in the store on the spur of the moment to get my glasses adjusted and although I'd purchased them from another source, Alex , the gentleman who assisted me, was very gracious and helpful. His level off customer service which in addition to his in depth understanding about lenses, frames, contacts, etc... was truly refreshing. That level of professionalism is rare these days. I was so impressed that I decided to return the following week for an eye exam and to make a purchase of prescription glasses-- which is a big deal considering I don't have insurance right now. The optometrist, Dr. Goren was likewise, genuinely pleasant and highly skilled. This place is fantastic! I already had my prescription for my new glasses, so I walked in last Saturday without an appointment. I was greeted immediately by a friendly staff member. We talked a little about my prescription and what kind of frames I was looking for. With her help, I chose my frames (they had a very wide selection), the paperwork was written up, and I was told I would get a text when my glasses were ready. This took a total of 45 minutes. I also used a coupon printed from the Yelp site for a free pair of non-prescription sunglasses, which I took home with me that same day. SIX DAYS LATER I received a text that my glasses were ready - what a pleasant surprise! I stopped by after work, getting there at 5:30 and again, was immediately greeted by another friendly staff member. He got my glasses, tweaked them until they were perfectly fitted, and sent me on my way, telling me to come by anytime if I needed anything else. I was there for about 15 minutes. Everyone there was friendly and professional, there was no sales pitch or pressure for extra things I didn't want or need. I highly recommend this store! read more
